Yup, works for me too.
This combo sounds subjectively the best, the OS Cab sounds a little distant on both amps...and the Recto sounds like it does, the Mark has that midrange grind!

Awesome comparison, exactly what I was looking for. Surprisingly - really hard to find an A/B comparison of the two Mesa cab sizes without some missed detail (different amp, speakers, mic etc). thanks!

Mark seems to have a bit more crunch with the Traditional, sounds great in the mix. Mark + OS maybe sounds more refined when isolated
I agree 100% with you. Loved the regular sized with the recto and the oversized on the mark. I have a mark v 90 combo and it’s a Dream amp. Currently on the market for an older 2 channel recto
The Mark and the Standard sounded better together to my ears while the Rec sounded better with OS. More presence for each on the opposite cab.
what happened at 1:50 on the right side? It sounds like an IR changed in the middle of the playback. Huge EQ change..
As far as full mixes go, when talking about rhythms the recto in to the oversize just wins without any doubt for me. However, for solos it's kinda too scooped, and misses the mids that you need for a solo to pop out of the mix, which the mark V in to the traditional provides. Would be cool to hear them blended together "matt pike style", or simply rythm guitars with a recto and lead guitars with the mark V.
I said all of this sh*t, when at the end of the day, all 4 options sound killer

Sadly youtube tends to make things sound similar maybe it is youtube compression or something else I don't know but Listening to this vid I do tend to agree with your assessment. Both great amps and the oversized certainly has a tone of its own. Thanks for putting this out there!

I like the tightness of the Mark and the bass frequencies of the Rectifier.
Ooooh, Friedman and Soldano in the background... new amp packs coming? ;-) I have to say that the ML Toosie+ pack for Helix gives me pretty much THE heavy rhythm guitar sound I was always looking for. EMG equipped guitar, Toosie+ preset nr. 7 and the Freewilly IR from the Freeman cab pack - I'm in Thrash Metal heaven! And BTW, the new Mega Traditional pack is really nice, too (although still nothing beats the Freeman IMO).

The diversity of the MK V all the way for me ,probably oversized cab but I like focused midrange more then open and wide so I'd actually have to test the cabs with the m- V or the IRs for that matter which make life easier lol
Impress by the recto. Both sound godly though.
I've got an '03 OS slant that I love but part of me wants for a 90's frame stamped cab because the speakers are different and "better." Are the 90's cabs better?
I actually liked the traditional better on both amps so I guess thats what I will buy :)

I have a triple recto just like yours from 97. Is yours a domestic 120v or an export 220v model ? If it's a domestic, did you get the mains transformer replaced or do you use stepdown transformer like me. I'm curious about your experience and your thoughts on the sound, I'm thinking about switching out my mains transformer for a TAD replacement one. Great video btw.

Hey Mikko! I've been looking for a decent comparison of Traditional vs Oversize for a while. Thank you for this! Do you have Engl Pro cabs in mind? I was looking to buy either 2x12 Engl Pro Vertical or 2x12 Traditional Mesa and can't find any comparisons between Engl and Mesa Traditional also. Think I'll have to buy Traditional IRs to play around with!
Mesa cabs all the way. ENGL are okay but Mesa is probably the best cab maker. :)
@@mlsoundlab Oversized was sounding too scooped and fat for me, even though I love mids Orange seems to have some odd mid frequencies that don't always sit right with me. I will play with Traditional IRs I've just bought and see if that floats my boat ;)
I think vertical 2x12 Engl Pro was just in between these two similar to Traditional one. Did you have a chance to play around with Engl?
@@Xe0nLight I've mainly played with the Pro 4x12 cab. The metal grill is what kind of... turns me off.
@@mlsoundlab Is it only the visuals that you don't like or is there something specific in the sound frequencies that the grill is causing? Sorry for asking lot of questions, where I live we only have marshall 4x12 available in stock so there's not much for me to hear or even see in person, very little diversity over here :)
I have a cab engl pro v30 and a cab mesa v30 the 2 4x12. the engl has chinese v30s the mesa has uk v30s... i opened the 2 cabs to check. Although the engl is a well built cab the mesa is much superior in sound ... otherwise the engl is of equivalent quality to the mesa in terms of materials
I have an old 2-channel Triple Rectifier with a traditional 4x12 cab. How do set the mix knobs on the parallel effects loop? I never could quite figure it out. Also, what do you think of the Peavey Invective 120? I have one reserved on backorder, but I can only go by RUclips videos, so I’m not certain of it’s quality. Would I be better off with an EVH Stealth 50 or 100 or a PRS Archon? I have an AXE FX III that I was planning on using for effects only with the Invective 120 3/4 stack and the Triple Rectifier 3/4 stack in a two amp stereo setup.

Maybe my ears are playing tricks on me, but Mark V with O/S cab sounds similar to Recto with Traditional cab.
What's that snow going upwards thru the whole thing, kinda looks like dust? Maybe it was negative thoughts being sucked out of my brain..damn can't remember what I'm doing here or what I was getting depressed out. Hum, maybe it was happy dust.

Also, which would you recommend between the two Mesa cabs on a 5150 Block Letter / 6505 heavy rhythm guitar tone?

Maybe EVH vs Block Letter. :) I think both should work. Block letter has more lows so it may be a better fit with the Traditional cab and OS for EVH. Need to try it out!

Traditional had better eq. Oversized - no, thanks: even for the dual rectifier which sounded the best with it in this video, it can’t be compared how good the traditional was.

@@guillaumeduchesne9758 Yes it's exactly the same sound with ML IR's as miking the cabs for real. I'm using the same separation rig for these tests. ;)

Nice video. The problem I have with the Mesa Boogie cabinets is how dry and dead Mesa Boogie cabs sound. Try those Mesas through a Marhslal or better cab!

I hate these videos where they do an amp comparison and then add in a bunch of other stuff like the drums, bass, and other guitars.....just play the damn guitar through the amp for christ sake!
Both cabinets have ample bite in real life - which is not reflected in your ad here. You're basing this on your own IRs. Understandable as you're trying to sell your stuff. But have the decency to call it as it is: your amps played through your impulse responses - which are available to buy online. Nothing wrong with that. Fucking wrong to lure innocent souls into listening to a couple of the most iconic cabs on earth, only to hear you shit!
I have bite while playing through these IRs. I think Mikko used some high cut here.
