Phil Joanou's film of this U2 tour never seemed to gain the recognition it so richly deserved. The BB King episode, and the one filmed in Harlem for Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For, are brilliantly captured tapestries of very special events.
You can tell the great BB loved that song! He pulled in all of his vocal cords right in, what a perfect song for him! it really suited him well, u2 really captured his spirit!
The world in 1987 wasn't ready for this lightning in a bottle collaboration. We are still struggling in 2024 to understand the magnitude of this work of art. We know it's beautiful but it hasn't been fully appreciated yet.
I can say I was fortunate enough to catch his last tour. Open air concert and a slow nasty rain but me and my 8 year old son stood fast. I wanted my son to see a legend and he did. Rest in peace BB and thank you for a great show
B.B. King - "I don't do the chords...." also B.B. King - makes one note sing with more soul and stank than most guitar players can manage in a lifetime.
Had the great fortune to see BB in concert about 30 years ago and he SMOKED. He also had Jr Wells and the Alligator All Stars with Koko Taylor opening AND Buddy Guy. That was one hell of a show. We actually had to leave b/c BB just kept playing - I heard later he went to about 2 am. One of the coolest things he did was have little kids in the audience sit with him on the stage while he played a bouncy blues number for them and gave them all guitar picks. Class act.
What a great song, and a fantastic group of highly talented musicians. I love the legendary BB KING. I saw the movie in 1987, I think, when it was in theaters. Those were really cool times.
I really love this song. U2 Playing When Love Comes To Town with Bono and BB King together it all sounds so perfect and so beautiful. 💓💓💓💓👌👏👏👏👏 I am not a BB King fan or Blues unless U2! 🎸🎤🥁🎸🎹🎤🎸😃👏👏👏👏 Well done U2 and BB King.
This one's for Michele -- remembering when we saw the test screening of this movie at the old Sherman Oaks Galleria and found out afterward that Bono, Edge, Adam & Larry had snuck in after the lights went down to watch from the back of the theater. We know this clip by heart after all these years! Love you, B.B.
It's true they brought him back into the limelight. But he already had achieved more success than most in his genre years before. He broke through onto the mainstream chart with "The Thrill Is Gone" in 1969.
Love this R&H track with gospel/blues influences..Bono had to complete the lyrics in his hotelroom during a bath right before he had to present it to the legendary B.B.King...typical Bono😉 ♥️♥️🎵🎶🎙🎸🥁🔝
I was a sailor, I was lost at sea I was under the waves Before love rescued me I was a fighter, I could turn on a thread Now I stand accused of the things I've said Love comes to town I'm gonna jump that train When love comes to town I'm gonna catch that flame Maybe I was wrong to ever let you down But I did what I did before love came to town I used to make love under a red sunset I was making promises I was soon to forget She was pale as the lace of her wedding gown But I left her standing before love came to town I ran into a juke joint when I heard a guitar scream The notes were turning blue, I was dazing in a dream As the music played I saw my life turn around That was the day before love came to town When love comes to town I'm gonna jump that train When love comes to town I'm gonna catch that flame Maybe I was wrong to ever let you down But I did what I did before love came to town When love comes to town I'm gonna jump that train When love comes to town I'm gonna catch that flame Maybe I was wrong to ever let you down But I did what I did before love came to town I was there when they crucified my Lord I held the scabbard when the soldier drew his sword I threw the dice when they pierced his side But I've seen love conquer the great divide When love comes to town I'm gonna catch that train When love comes to town I'm gonna catch that flame Maybe I was wrong to ever let you down But I did what I did before love came to town
I love U2 but the BEST concert I saw was B.B. King. He and his band were so on that night it was a level up from most other bands. No disrespect to U2 and Rush who were the bands I grew up with; this was something magical.
Maybe I was wrong to ever let you down but I did what I did before love came to town. Wow did he ever lean into that. Rock history at its best. Legendary.
He had magi in his fingertips. What a great sound he could produce without effects U2 is my oldest love in music. Bono's voice, Edge's great sound and guitar playing and the solid and original spine of the band with Larry and Adam who are always forgotten... Juts one of the best bands still active that never changed a band member and that was never afraid to take chances. I would love your input on our last video. If you have just 3 minutes to listen and a bit more to comment, that would mean the world to me : ruclips.net/video/nIzsCppYCYM/видео.html
When Love Comes to Town" is a song by Irish rock band U2 featuring blues guitarist B. B. King. It is the twelfth track from U2's 1988 album, Rattle and Hum, and was released in 1989 as the record's third single. The song was recorded at the historic Sun Studio in Memphis. "When Love Comes to Town" reached number one in the Irish Singles Chart, number six in the UK Singles Chart, number ten in the Dutch Top 40, and number two in the US Mainstream Rock Tracks chart.
Bono always seems very nervous with BB, just imagine, you, a 27 years old guy singing with a complete legend! In my 27's I was trying to build my architecture office, just TRYING! and Bono do this with the GREAT BB King! P.D. Sorry for the bad english!
I remember Rattle and Hum came out a year after The Joshua Tree.I saw them on the JT tour.It seemed like ages before Rattle and Hum came out , cos time is long when yr young.
This song is so relevant that I started singing it not knowing that it was already a song and a verse in the greatest Irish Rock Bands portfolio. Did I ever tell you that "I Love U2" "Hope You Love Me 2"
BB KING Love His Music..A Raw Unique Legend.. Love Bono U2 .. One Question Please ❓..Will U2 Ever Tour In Liverpool England... We're Great People Here 😎🎽🇬🇧🎽
YOU KNOW I HAVE ALWAYS ADMIRE BB KING'S MASTERFUL PLAYING ,I play guitar and love the blues I have to admit i stole that lick toward the end of the song ( 4.10 ) from him ?? THAT GIBSON BITES AT THOSE NOTES WITH BB AT THE CONTROLS of course ! After years, it stills send chills to my 70 years plus old bones !
You gotta upload Heartland now. There are so many good transitions. Interview with Larry into Bad, All along the watchtower into In gods country, and BB into Heartland. Thumb a lift there, Edge.
Bono you old sod.. Happy 62nd Birthday Paul David Hewson 05/10/62.. Rotunda Hospital, Dublin. First time I heard U2 was Gloria in "81 on PBS music video hour. No cable where i lived back then.. St. Paddy's day concert was the best. Red Rockers opened.
B.B.'s rip into the solo at 4:08 sounds so awesome there are no words. He plays two notes and owns the room. He's unbelievable.
Hell yeah
Phil Joanou's film of this U2 tour never seemed to gain the recognition it so richly deserved. The BB King episode, and the one filmed in Harlem for Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For, are brilliantly captured tapestries of very special events.

Well put, I remember seeing this at a theatre in 87'
I can say I was fortunate enough to catch his last tour. Open air concert and a slow nasty rain but me and my 8 year old son stood fast. I wanted my son to see a legend and he did. Rest in peace BB and thank you for a great show
Good guy . R.I.P. B.B. KING. Hard to believe this was recorded over 30 years ago.
“Lotta emotion right there, that’s alright young man!”
This gives me tears of joy.
This part of the movie is amazing. I hope the video of Heartland as well.
B.B. King - "I don't do the chords...."
also B.B. King - makes one note sing with more soul and stank than most guitar players can manage in a lifetime.
Way too humble for his talent. There are recordings, especially from the 50s, where he's playing chords very well.

B.B. was 63 when this song came out. He didn’t sound like it. I could never imagine being in my 20s and playing with a legend like that.
Larry working his arms off to keep up with BB's pace. Great stuff.
BB king’s voice…one of the best

B.B. was such a pro. He saw the song and knew instantly they had something good.
BB, so great, a massively talented legend, and so humble. They don't make 'em like that anymore.
That last verse is LIFE! Absolutely gorgeous!
Oh yes! U2 and the King of Blues... Perfection! Amazing Era. 🏆🎸❤️🔥 Thanx so much guys 👍

I was a little kid at a show of his in 2001, I think, and got a guitar pick 🥰

Pure genius B.B. King.
The KING of Blues @ B.B. KING.
With Bono of U2,
WOW ! Together,
when love comes to town
LOVE COME TO TOWN to YOU.
Such a great song, so much for lack of any other word, soul. Especially when B.B. gets out there and really plays.

Well done U2 and BB King.
A Legen with another legend...!! Respect...
Bono recently articulated a goal "not to sing songs . . . but to let the songs sing us." That was clearly going on here!!
This one's for Michele -- remembering when we saw the test screening of this movie at the old Sherman Oaks Galleria and found out afterward that Bono, Edge, Adam & Larry had snuck in after the lights went down to watch from the back of the theater. Love so much this very special moment between U2 and BBKing 😍❤!!
BB is awesome. I played piano and flute not knowing cords. A natural musician. Way to go!
And then "Heartland" rise slowly. Magic moment of the movie.
I love this music, too 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
0:25 1984-era Bono gives 1987-era Bono a guitar. Matrix conquered.
Haha I wanted to comment almost exactly the same and seeing this here made my day 🙌😂
@Ben Haynes did Bono even have a guitar tech in 1987? I know Dallas Schoo was Edge’s guitar tech from 87 on
I love that Bonno and U2 gave BB King the commercial exposure that he deserved and would otherwise have never received. Respect

as a cellist, it inspires me to see the dexterity bb king had with those magic fingers
I was a sailor, I was lost at sea
I was under the waves
Before love rescued me
I was a fighter, I could turn on a thread
Now I stand accused of the things I've said
Love comes to town I'm gonna jump that train
When love comes to town I'm gonna catch that flame
Maybe I was wrong to ever let you down
But I did what I did before love came to town
I used to make love under a red sunset
I was making promises I was soon to forget
She was pale as the lace of her wedding gown
But I left her standing before love came to town
I ran into a juke joint when I heard a guitar scream
The notes were turning blue, I was dazing in a dream
As the music played I saw my life turn around
That was the day before love came to town
When love comes to town I'm gonna jump that train
When love comes to town I'm gonna catch that flame
Maybe I was wrong to ever let you down
But I did what I did before love came to town
When love comes to town I'm gonna jump that train
When love comes to town I'm gonna catch that flame
Maybe I was wrong to ever let you down
But I did what I did before love came to town
I was there when they crucified my Lord
I held the scabbard when the soldier drew his sword
I threw the dice when they pierced his side
But I've seen love conquer the great divide
When love comes to town I'm gonna catch that train
When love comes to town I'm gonna catch that flame
Maybe I was wrong to ever let you down
But I did what I did before love came to town
Music bypasses the brain and pierces the soul. If you're still "listening" to music and not feeling it, you're doin' it all wrong!🙌
