  • Installed the Cobb SF Intake on my 2015 Subaru WRX STi but sadly had to take it off because I thought wrong and there is not an OTS map from cobb to support my downpipe AND intake. Going to be purchasing injectors and a few other supporting mods soon to gert it running with much more horsepower!
    Order the intake here: edgeautosport.com/cobb-tuning...

    That white tank on the bottom your your air box is an in tank silencer. It also doubles as a Maoist we collector to prevent moister building up on your filter or going into your intake. Removing it will allow you to hear your intake a lot more with. If you leave the bottom of the filter box open you also won’t have to worry about moister or water getting in unless you submerge your car

    Yes, U need to upgrade the injectors and fuel pump for 2015 to 2019, but not 2011 to 2014. you also need to tune it to find a good WHP possible close to 350 WHP plus increase torque. Definetly incooler is a good idea to change to mod!

    Yea there is one for the intake itself but I tested the Cobb SF OTS and it sucked compared to the Mishimoto OTS but perhaps because I don't have the Cobb SF intake I have the ETS intake. I noticed the car just felt sluggish compared to the Mishimoto OTS tune. If you have a downpipe and intake you could have tried a stage 2 tune if I'm not mistaken. Really though you should have just left on the intake and got a pro tune.

  • @beatles

    Some of you here don’t know where that air goes into. It goes only through the trubo. The air that is mixed with fuel goes through your intercooler and through throttle body also your trubo sucks in cold air from the intercooler.You’d know this If you already pulled some parts off not just by staring at it thinking how pretty your short intake was. I’d suggest still cold air for your turbo cus it doesn’t like hot air. That is why in drag racing after a run they alway put big fans to cool down the turbo.

    • @kynanluke3262
      @kynanluke3262 5 лет назад

      Oh wow. Ok first of all the turbo sucks in ambient temperature air through a filter of some sort normally, compresses the air which then travels through the intercooler to reduce the overall temperature of the air (cold air is denser) . Then the fuel is added to the cooler air, then the mixture enters the combustion chamber.

  • @roykim5322
    @roykim5322 6 лет назад +13

    You can run Intake and catless downpipe without getting new Injectors. You only need to change the Injectors when they're at 90% duty cycle. I know a lot of people who have an Intake and downpipe and just get a protune with no problem. It's the protune that's mostly important with all the mods you're doing, or you're gonna fuck something up. I suggest you do get a new fuel pumps cuz stock ones are shit. And get a Cobb fuel pressure regulator cuz nobody likes that 2-4K "stumble" you get with the sti. In my opinion, you're good with stock Injectors with just stage 2, but if you're looking for more power, just change em to Cobb 1050x Injectors. I WILL SAY THIS THO, PROTUNE IS NECESSARY AT THIS POINT!

    You should be able to do the installations yourself if you're somewhat mechanically inclined. That +$600 of labor is a little too high, but if you have the time and the tools, there's tons of instruction videos online to follow bro. But make sure to get your car pro-tuned as soon as everything is installed or you will blow your shit up. Running the Catless setup that you have now without a proper tune is scary. Can't wait to see the build!

    On my 2018 STI, I had to install the 1050x injectors, fuel pressure regulator, AEM high pressure fuel pump, fuel pressure sensor and flex fuel with a custom tune to get a stage 3+. My intake had to sit in the box until I was ready to go to stage 3+. You don't need the fuel rails or the lines.
    I had a stage 2 for months prior to the install. E85 with the mods brings the STI to life.

Injectors are only required when you go stage 3. Don’t worry about changing your intercooler unless you go stage 4. Personally, I wouldn’t use the cobb accessport as every car is different a pro tune (remap) from a good tunning company is the safest option. 👍

    You don't need injectors....well at least to a point. I have a 2017 STI with ETS tmic, invidia Q300 exhaust, invidia catted downpipe, and invidia up pipe with the Cobb accessport. Everything else is stock and it runs smooth and injectors aren't maxed out. Oh and peak boost is 18.1 PSI.

      I have a 2015 STI limited and was interested in getting that exhaust and downpipe are you happy with it or do you wish you went with something else??

      Nick L I love it. I don't like loud exhausts because I live in CA plus I think most of them sound terrible and don't have the right signature boxer rumble. The Q300 with invidia catted downpipe and catless upipe is perfect in my opinion. It's not loud but it's not quite either, honestly it has the perfect low and deep tone I was looking for. BTW I made 328whp and 344wtq with this setup.

    Here's the reality... You DO NOT need to replace your stock intake, especially unless your planning on making some major HP.
    The factory intake does a better job of pulling colder air into you motor. Living in a hot climate your gonna get heat soak big time. Most people who are tuned to run COBBs intake on there STi's are going to opt for the air box they offer as well. That would at least keep some of the heat down.

    • @MarkB-qx9uu
      @MarkB-qx9uu 6 лет назад

      -Slurmdaddy - Not at all. Im referring to the air temps at the intake end.

    • @-slurmdaddy-8147
      @-slurmdaddy-8147 6 лет назад +2

      Heat soak has nothing to do with intake.. it’s intercooler related

    • @MarkB-qx9uu
      @MarkB-qx9uu 6 лет назад +6

      -Slurmdaddy - Heat soak is indeed intercooler related as well as the top mount sits directly above the engine and turbo. However, heat soak doesn't only affect the intercooler.
      The video was about an air intake modification so I was referring to that... The Cobb intake (especially without their airbox) leaves you with an air filter just sitting in a super hot engine bay to suck in hot air.
      Just my 2 cents. I love the Sti content, just wanted to make sure he is aware as it sits now he has installed a "hot air intake"

    Change engine oil, spark plugs, spark plug leads and panel filter to K&N, believe me don't buy a cone filter it sucks hot air which is not good, the engine needs cooler air from a panel filter because the air flow is away from any heat source, and one last thing, which know one does, take off the negative cable off battery terminal for 60seconds this will reset sensors once reconnect, all this is the cheapest way and I've done it since the90s, and the gain I get everytime is between 12&14bhp, Good luck Petrol heads enjoy...

    Please don’t do this to your cars guys. Now he has an intake that completely bypasses the factory engineering which was pretty efficient btw, and is now exposed to the entire engine bay. Heat soak city. LOSS of power and is now running lean without a proper tune. Why why why?

    • @nwbklr
      @nwbklr 5 лет назад +3

      Kyle V L in the meantime he’d be causing damage to the engine. These motors are already terrible. They don’t like bein modified. You don’t slap on a bunch of parts and THEN get a tune. That’s not how this works. Even just an intake alone and boom, you’re runnin lean. Every single modification needs a tune. The ECU isn’t going to compensate for the additional airflow. Common misconception.

      Bryan Toledo yes if something were to happen to his car let’s say turbo blows they will blame it on afr being out of wack blah blah blah
      Don’t listen to these little kids who just got their license saying magnuson moss act bullshit
      In the end if you mod the car and something happens they CAN AND WILL (maybe some get lucky and have cool dealers) find it and they flip the script making the burden of proof be on you and if you try to use m.w. Act claiming law suit remember they have much deeper pockets
      Enjoy your warranty for five years or 60k miles (depending on brand) and then go mod happpy

    lmao 4 grand for 350whp.. they are definitely just trying to sell you everything lmao. stock fuel system can certainly handle your current setup. contrary to popular belief you dont NEED 1000cc+ injectors, a small step up to 650cc is a great option to get you closer to that 350 mark. oh and go get a pro tune, its like $100ish and completely worth it.

  • @rolandcostainjr

    Sounds like a lot of money for an intake lol. You're better off with stock intake anyways.... notice how the air is being taken from the outside of your engine bay where its cooler. That Cobb intake is a high flow intake NOT a cold air intake. I can't see why you would need new injectors and a pump for a slight increase in airflow but hey I'm no expert.

    • @rolandcostainjr
      @rolandcostainjr 6 лет назад +2

      And just so you know that intake alone probably wouldn't even increase your hp by 0.5.... it just makes your engine sound a bit throatier but since you have an exhaust you probably wouldn't even notice it's there until you popped your hood.

    • @georgeparker555
      @georgeparker555 6 лет назад +2

      RJ Costain yeah but with a Cobb accesport the car will actually benefit and gain power. It's not like he slapped this intake on his Honda with no tune. But you're right he's going to be pulling in hotter air which retards the timing depending on how hot that air is

      I wouldn't call them idiots there just being fooled by these companies that lie but Finally someone gets it I'm to tired of the so Cold air intake when they clearly suck up hot air from the engine bay. I drive a Elantra sport I also had a hot air intake AKA cold did some temp test had above 150°F-180°F. These companies are ripping people off... long story short I made my own Hybrid True Cai that I built completely insulated along with a few other goodies I can't mention but my temps are around 55°F-65°F I'm still working on to get it colder.

  • @1001Hobbies

    You removed the air cleaner enclosure and installed an air filter that is open to the engine compartment so that your engine sucks in hot engine compartment air. If you were aiming for less power, you've achieved it. What you gained in a more direct air flow you lost by the engine ingesting hotter, less dense air, with less oxygen. This means due to the less dense air, less fuel can be injected in order to keep a stoichiometric fuel mixture.
