Overall this is general information that I wanted to get out there as I still see some confuse in the community and wanted to do what I could to help Clear it up!

I test drove 2020 wrx. They did not fix rev hang. Car hangs hard and car shakes scary hard 1st to 2nd.

stage 4, cams/springs/valves, forged internals. stage 5, stripped out interior and rollcage ;)

Excellent explanations. I did a Stage 1and 2 on my 2017 3.6 legacy. The best part wasn’t so much power but a smoother RPM range

Tanner, I just posted my son's Shinjin Tuned 19 STI on the 15+ group. SF intake, AOS and ETS catback 324@whp 354trq. And the AFR and temps are clean !!! I say this because if a tuner specializes in pops and flames, don't walk but RUN AWAY !!

I would say that stage 1 is just the tune with accessport and stage 1+ is ap with intake the +1 being the intake in stages. Stage 2 is downpipe and ap (cobb supported) and stage 2+ is air intake, downpipe, and ap (maperformance) no issues here with ap readings. Stage 3 bolt ons, flex, & other supporting modifications. Just my thoughts. Good video 😎🤙
Go with Grimspeed stage packages and they’re quite different than Cobb’s.
Am confused because Cobb has stage 2+ j pipe, exhaust and intake with the access port that i guess Cobb support that

does stage 2 + from cobb void dealer warranty? just got a 2020 wrx
BoostedQuickScope There is nothing that will outright “void” your warranty. Nothing. However, if something breaks, malfunctions, etc. SOA will try and most likely succeed in linking any and all hard part modifications/ecu tuning etc. as the reason for engine failure. Best advice I can give (I have a 2019 wrx and went stage 2 over 3k miles ago) is do your research intensely and then do it some more. Welcome to the subie fam and hopefully the tuning world bro, stay safe and mod smart
@@sleepwalkingonthinice__48 Question for everyone with wrx on tune. Did you use ots tune for the time being while driving the car into tune shop to get pro tune. Or did you install DP and Air intake and leave it stock until you arrived to get protune?

I like those white wheels! Also that 35 min drive for E85 is definitely worth it. Just fill up a couple of jugs and obviously don’t store it to long. Flex fuel was one of my favorite mods I did. The torque and power is so good!
I may end up going to E in the future but it's just a hassle for right now. Traffic is so bad on the way to the station 😅 the car would make a decent amount more power swapping over too 😫

Interesting to see how your power is different from my '18 STI basically at "stage 3". Yours makes more horsepower but less torque than mine. I just love the variance between all the cars!

I'm going stage3 on e85 what kinda power did u make and how the car running?
@@hariskeso4183 my car makes 351whp and 403wtq at e70 and only 309whp and 353wtq on 91oct.
The car runs great and feels great with all the other driver mods I've done to it since (pitch stop mount and brace, bushings, tranny mounts, engine mount, etc). The only downside rn is Cobb's ethanol sensor failing on me but it's getting warrantied to their newest version and my fuel pump failing due to wiring and voltages/amps on the stock wiring harness for the fuel pump (aem 340). But other than those minor inconveniences, the car always puts a smile on my face every time I drive it or look at it.
Damn rewatching this video again in 2021 and seeing this version of the Bluebaru again is wild ! So much difference in the 17 STI now it has a 6 cylinder boxer engine !
Completely diffrent car from how it use to be, I go back and rewatch some older ones and still.blows my mind 😅

Hey man, awesome content, love the channel. I was actually looking the other day what stages I should buy, who to buy from, etc. I think it would be really awesome to do a video on Cobb's stage 2 package versus Grimmspeed stage 3 package. For like a stage comparison deal or more like what is the cheapest, yet most reliable way to get to stage 3 on a budget.

From a guy at Boost Controlled Performance, you can see upwards of 350whp and 340 ftlbs of torque. Going higher than 350 torque is what causes engines to blow on stock internals. You can obviously make around 400+ with e85 BUT you need upgraded pistons and conrods.
Doesn't 2020 sti have forged pistons?

Stage 3 on e85 you should be making close to 400whp. Even doing the cobb flex fuel you get easily 100hp

Hey @Smeedia, I just want to make a correction on what you said:
Stage 1 for WRX: you literally only need the accessport and flash it on all stock parts, not the intake. I know "opinions" varies, but if you consult forums and reputable tuners, they'll tell you that the intake is one of the LAST mods you should do. The factory one is actually very good up to ~400HP. Cold air intake is nothing more than a sweet noise maker and at most, you'll gain 5-10hp for a $300-$400 upgrade. You're better off spending that money on a AOS and TGV/EGR delete than an aftermarket intake.
PS- I'm not biased. My WRX is a "stage 3" track-oriented car. And I have an aftermarket CAI.
Appreciate the input! When it comes to the FA I'm not too versatile with the modifications to them. Only ever had an Acessport on my old 16 WRX but always open to additions and more information to help out other owners!

Looping what are your goals for the car? Daily, track, both? Are you going to keep it long term? I would start with a catback and cylinder 4 cooling mod (GetaDomTune). Also if you do get an accessport GET A PRO TUNE!!!

"Stages" can vary so much, are inaccurate, and are pretty much pointless in my opinion. Marketing nonsense.
It's just an easier way of saying "I've got a tune, aftermarket exhaust, and an intake."

I'm waiting on some parts, jpipe, charge pipes, bigger tmic, and possible cat/axle back or single exhaust to save weight. Can you tell me your opinion of the single pipe exhausts available, and can I use one without being obnoxiously loud? I have zero exterior modifications and want to stay sleeper (not that any WRX is a sleeper, but you get me)
As long as it's got a decent muffler and resonator it shouldent be too loud 🔥🙏

Nice having all these videos cause here in Saskatchewan don't have much time outside the garage ! In my opinion , after 4 turbo Subies and 6 engines my best advice is know exactly where you want to end up , but seeing as that's almost impossible in reality there's never an end to the build it's the journey not the destination ! Subie love is Subie love , in the end you get what YOU want ! I'm ok with someone just buying a new one and keeping it as is ..........just think if I did that with my 2002 WRX !
True, after 6 or 7 STIs now there really is no end to these cars. Knowing what you want from the beginning will help in building but 9/10 times you end up changing paths. It can be frustrating at times but you are 100% right that it is about the journey 🔥😁
@@Smeedia If you started with WRX then you would appreciate the extra power of the STI ! I used to think my WRX stage 2 was fast until I drove a tuned STI it's not in the same universe ! The 6 speed is the best most noticeable upgrade I've done !
@@bruceholinight7978 then trans is the biggest selling point, I've had 2 FA WRXs but both of them were only stage 1. The trans was one of the reasons I went back. I sold my 2007 STI for a 2016 WRX and only had it for about 6 months. I was not a fan of the cable style transition compared to the STIs. But it's good to know the insight between hownthebpiwer is displaced with the trans for a stage 2 WRX!
@@Smeedia Keep the videos coming never to many , the only gripe I have is I run out of gear real quick with the 6 speed! I think the newer STI has a taller 6th gear !
@@bruceholinight7978 always! And I haven't noticed this. Then again I've mainly only had STIs so it might be something I'm used to by now. Although my old p2 WRX 5 speed was nice for freeway driving with the longer gearing
Awesome video bro! One little issues I had with it though is the fact you only focused on the 2015+ WRX. While I understand that's what you have, it seems like every damn video on youtube is just 2015+ WRXs. Even though I'd say more people still own and drive older models such as myself. It makes it a lot harder and very frustrating to find info especially in video form for these cars. Other than that, great video, and sweet Subie too!
Totally understandable, I did address the older gens later in the video based off of the STIs numbers. Because the older EJ255s, 205s are similar to the 257 you should expect about 20-30 less WHP with the stages. But thank you for throwing it out there I'll make it a little more prevalent in the videos!
@@Smeedia No thank you bud I appreciate it! There is a decent amount of info online for the older generations but it's very hard to find actual dyno numbers. Even Cobb has none on their website that I could find at least, for anything below the 2015 model years haha

I just made my 13 WRX STI flex fuel, 1050 injectors, FPR, Fuel sensors for E85, DW 300 pump, IAG TV's, IAG fuel rails... I was able to hit the 350whp. I'm super happy with the tune and how it performs.

You car makes the same power as my 96 gt legacy with sti block and all the goodies nice
I’d advocate for intercooler as soon as you start modding your car. Oem intercoolers struggle stock in general let alone with more power. Add ETS front mount/tmic to one of the first things you do. Doesn’t change noise or power, but it lets you keep things cooler which is super important. And in turn helping power more consistently
That's the whole reason I went FMIC, keep IATs lower and get sway from the heat soak

Hey dude! Love all your videos, great learning lessons. I'm running a 2006 WRX Limited w/DC Short Ram Intake, STI intercooler, Exedy Stage 1 clutch, and COBB AP. FINALLY getting it dyno tuned in a few weeks to Stage 1+. I've already taken care of all the general maintenance (timing belt, head gaskets, etc.) but the engine has approximately 180K on it....This will be the last engine mod because Betsy ain't no spring chicken anymore but wanted to know your opinion about the upgrade and what to avoid with a high-mileage engine. I think it needs to be pointed out that peak HP is not the only thing you get with tuning. I have an 18 STI for example, and with a tune alone I didn't get much more peak HP, but I got a hell of a lot more power lower down in the RPM range. It makes the car noticeably quicker.
Agreed, the low end is where we spend most of our time driving as well.

Cool info, my first WRX and I didn't know anything about stages when I started modding my car. Based on this, my car is a Stage 2. I don't have any plans to do fuel mods on the factory motor and turbo setup. The car isn't struggling for fuel and its a daily driver. The ability to refuel any where is far more important to me than any gains I would see running E85. Now I'm working on misc other things. I ordered some drilled/slotted rotors to look good with my Enkei wheels as well as some Bilstein shock/struts. I really wanted coil overs/racing suspension but like I said, its a DD. So I'm looking for more comfort and around town control.

@@Smeedia Naw, I'm flying by the seat of my pants lol I originally bought the car to teach my son how to drive a manual and was going to sell it afterwards. He didn't care for it but the car is just too much fun to sell. So I kept it. If not for going to some 1320/NWP meets, I probably would have kept it stock....damn those people and their negative influence lol
@@Smeedia Forgot to mention I'm also looking into some radio improvements. Talking to a company about installing a small amp and better speakers. Nothing crazy, just want a hair better quality.

Brakes are still a good thing to modify lol but the stages really only reflect engine modifications 😁

I’ve had my 2021 sti now for two months and I LOVE IT!!! I bought the 10 year warranty when I got it because they told me I could get it pro tuned still lol. Then I find out that it will possibly cause them to void it in certain areas if they think it has to do with the tune. The only thing I did was put an ETS extreme catback on it, which sounds fantastic. After watching video after video I can’t help but really want to do a pro tune may to stage 2. Everyone makes it sounds like the car will be so much funnier, faster and smoother. I’m only concerned about possible severe issues that it may cause. Any idea on how much some of the possible issue tend to run when you get it tuned? I’m not worried about putting money in if I need to, but I don’t want to drop like $5-10k if something happened.
Tbh a protune will minimize most issues, it will really come down to your driving style and keeping up on maintance 🔥

Not that people's opinions have no weight but data is data. I am going to be doing some driving videos once the weather clears up in march. there is just so much rain and it gets dark at 4 that I cant really get any good ones right now. Congratulations on the WRX! how are you liking it so far? And I'll definitely keep that in mind for any assistance!

LOVE the WRX! I feel I made the right choice being that of course I was eyeing the STI but I've always been a sucker for mid-range torque. It's sooooo useable in daily and AutoX. I ended up getting a Limited cuz creature comforts lol but it's an awesome vehicle, solid, responsive and fun in every gear. Only complaint is it's ghostly quiet vs my old car. Though it wont add visible power this thing NEEDS an exhaust.
Have u heard about the preignition issues on the FA? It's making me want to rush to an AP but I wanna wait a lil bit longer to ensure the block is legit before I throw away the warranty.
@@Acrimoniousbear1 totally understand, I also got a limited mainly because I wanted the sunroof though 🤣 the low end torque in the WRX is FANTASIC for city driving but I hated the OEM Tune on the freeway. When it comes to the pre ignition issue, I've heard of it but have not looked too much into it 🤔
Do you have any power info for the ej205 stages or just the fa models and STI ? Can't wait to see your new JDM build
