This was the first ramen I had in Japan and accidentally ordered the giant bowl challenge not realizing it was something special.
I ate the whole thing thinking that was rather big for a meal.... Then saw Chris's video like a year later and was like... Ooohhhhh....
@manny it's been quite a while since I've been there, but I typically got ramen and a beer and I don't think any of my meals during that trip were over $20. Most were around $10-12, which is pretty good for also getting a beer. But things may have changed in last couple years.
but to be fair they spend 29 mins talking and 1 min eating so of course it hard to do in 30 mins also should use the spoon given when finished eating the big bits.

When Chris says "very nostalgic, takes me back to a simpler time", that hit me deep. That's exactly how I feel about the previous video as well. Back when I first watched it (summer 2019), life was good. Had just finished uni with excellent grades, had great prospects for the world, a gf who loved me, and in great shape and health overall. One of the reasons I love the abroad in Japan, the anime man, cdawgva and gigguk videos are because they always takes me back to that amazing time. Things are comparatively shit now, three years on from then, I'm still trying to recover both financially and health wise (physical and mental) from the pandemic, my gf and I broke up later that year, things haven't been great but watching these videos and hearing Chris's nostalgia for that time (and that video in particular) makes me feel less alone. Wow sorry that was hella long but I hope there was something of worth there

You know what nobody talks about? How cleanly shaved Chris' face is. My God is he dapper. Even after all these challenges, he can at least stand tall as a uprighteous looking fellow.

You see it very well at the shitty quality of the video or on the ... beard of the anime man. It is literally blurred into each other - why beautify filter kinda sucks.
Chris does exactly what my niece does and that is that he doesn't stop talking whilst trying to eat meaning that Joey has more time to cram it in. The key is to let the opposing challenger talk for longer, giving you time to chow down.

I think the trick for this challenge is to move the bean sprouts aside right at the start, have had it with the noodles before they get soggy and become a chore to eat, then wrap up with the bean sprouts
As a person who regularly did monster ramen challenge during my undergraduate, their performances are much to be desired.
Although, to be fair, the trick to complete the ramen challenge is to shut up and eat as fast as possible before your brain realises it's too much, and unfortunately, this wasn't an option for Joey and Chris, so..

That also meens that you should not drink whule eating but have it all at the end if you have a drink that is.
When I was in early 20s, that is possible, the bloated feeling afterwards will still be manageable, I could still even play DDR in the nearby arcade. When I reached my late 20s or early 30s, yeah, I'll probably get hospitalised, my stomach just got fed up with all those brain trickery.

For these food challenges you guys could bring a small digital scale. Weigh the food once it arrives and weigh it after the time is up. That way you can tell exactly how much you guys ate :D
