Great video and finds as always.
I am a regular Ebay and Discogs user, but only when the price, condition and feedback is right.
I much prefer digging at shops and fairs all day long, but cannot find absolutely everything I want in the wild.
As much as I love finding things in the wild, there is something great about watching the postie arrive outside with the square package you ordered a few days before!

Regarding the damaged Magical Mystery Tour record, you should be covered under the eBay buyer protection program. I had an experience with a cracked 45 just recently and got refunded within a week. You don't have to take a loss as the record was damaged in transit.

@@sorinvinyl1523 Unless the window to report the issue has passed, I am sure you will get a full refund. Ebay and paypal both have very good consumer protections. Even if a seller indicates that they do not accept returns, if the item arrives damaged or not as described they have to accept a return.

Sorin, as I recall the first pressing of The Doors’ “L. A. Woman” did not have the Butterfly label; should be the black, red & white “E” label if memory serves. Great buys, either way!

Hi Sorin, good to see you back on. My first copy of LA Woman was just like your copy. Rough vinyl with a VG cover. It was a Swap meet find, $1. The Free Spirits is one that's eluded me in the wild. I've seen one copy of Smoke in the wild, and it was rough. I'm fairly certain that came out on Sidewalk first. Kind of an odd situation with Sidewalk and Tower. Both were Capitol sub labels, and both labels were discontinued about the same time '69-'70. Nice Karen Dalton in the shrink. 15 cents...lol Yeah, K Mart didn't mess around on bargain pricing. I'm sure it was a Blue Light Special. They actually had a flashing blue light 🔵 in the store. I still have you beat, my K Mart album was 10 cents.

I stand corrected, Sorin! Just checked eBay and all the first pressings of L.A. Woman have the butterfly labels! Must’ve been their first album with that label. But as an Elvis guy, I love eBay because you just can’t find Elvis albums at garage sales or estate sales because everybody thinks that they’re sitting on a goldmine just because it’s Elvis! So, yeah; eBay is my go-to.

    • @sorinvinyl1523

The doors up to The Soft Parade were on the gold label. The Soft Parade is on the Red label as well, as Elektra was switching from gold to red design. L.A woman is on the Butterfly. People think Elvis is so valuable, but I still see it around garage sales for cheap sometimes. ✌☮

Hey Sorin, as someone who basically exclusively shops records on eBay there are a few ways I can defend it. First, I’m sorry about your magical mystery tour, I’ve never had anything close to that happening to me over several years. And in regards to the thrill of the hunt w/ eBay and records, I usually only use it to find steals (75% or more off) which makes it feel like digging and requires patience. And who doesn’t love saving money? For example, I’ve found two UK In The Court of the Crimson King Pink i for about 25 pounds each this past year in EXC+ condition, and that was after months upon months of diligently refreshing saved buy it nows. And after finding two, i sold one and made a profit, making it feel like I was paid to keep the other copy. Ultimately, imo most of the fun comes from the process of digging, so even if you find your end copy keep going to yard sales and the like so you can find it again 👍

    • @sorinvinyl1523
      @sorinvinyl1523  2 месяца назад

Thats completely fair. If I buy on Ebay I usually get around 50% off. I can't resist the temptation of seeig a record I really want sometimes, but that's on me. The UK court of the Crimson King finds are amazing! I do love the process of digging! I always buy doubles and end up making profits at garage sales. Interesting perspective. Thanks for sharing. I supposed if I was more patient and less eager to buy, I would definitely have a better perspective on Ebay. ✌☮

I first bought online around 2003 and it was mainly from the US. As a UK guy I just couldn't believe I was able to get long time wants like the Strawberry Alarm Clock, Electric Prunes, Ultimate Spinach lps and for $10 or $20, great times! Post 2015 as p&p went up, import duty, over grading I bought less and less and virtually buy nothing online now. I got lots of essentials in that period but wish I'd bought the bigger psych records, especially the Mainstream releases when they were more affordable. You can't beat the real world thrill but I'd say keep on getting those hard to obtain ones online as you may never get the opportunity otherwise. Sorry to see the MMT damage but hopefully you'll get your full refund. I must revisit Karen Dalton. I got it cheap in the real world over a decade ago and that was a thrill as I knew its rep but wasn't convinced at all. I still snigger at the comment I read on a music forum many years ago that compared her voice to Marge Simpson so perhaps that has clouded my judgement 😂. The Smoke is a pop masterpiece. Four Sail is Love's 2nd best lp. Keven Ayers is essential. Still missing The Free Spirits. Keep on buying those gems Sorin.... regards Nige.

I do very much like to buy imports online. I am mainly into UK rock, so its sweet to get UK presses in the states. It was much more affordable even before COVID. Now I wait until a copy pops up in the US haha. If I can pay around 50% of what its worth I'll definitely buy online. Marge Simpson is a strangely accurate way to describe Karen Dalton's voice 🤣. I love it though, its so unique in the best way. I prefer Da Capo to Four Sail, even though I only play side one. Thanks for watching! ☮✌

Hey man. The Who Live At Leeds is one of the best live albums ever. You can't ever go wrong with Van the man! I've never seen that Kevin Ayers lp. $3 for OG Doors is insanity! The Free Spirits is a cool find. That sucks regarding the cracked 45. Damn. I have a love/hate relationship with Ebay myself. I found that Smoke lp many years ago at Zia's in Las Vegas for $2.99. Yard sales can be great but you have to invest early mornings and can’t be everywhere at once so getting to the right one early is key. I do find that you get what you pay for but deals can be had. That smoke lp is the best and yes. The yellow labels sidewalk labels were at the scranton plant while the tower labels were at terre haute and I believe LA but don’t hold me to that.

I have that same pressing of Bananamour, it's a great album. I also have Joy of a Toy, but it's a reissue, so I'm still looking for an original. Nice original of LA Woman, when I first heard that album, I thought it sounded too much like Easy Listening, but It grew on me and now it's one of my favorite Doors albums. I like the psych pop sound of Manfred Mann on that Quinn the Eskimo LP. I like the song Each and Every Day. Love's Four Sail is a great album, I also have Out Here, which would have made a great single album if they would have omitted the less than stellar tracks. Haven't heard the Free Spirits LP but will be checking that one out. Such a drag about the MMT EP, I've gotten damaged albums in the mail but usually gets resolved after I contact the seller. The Smoke has been on my want list for a long time, but it's one of those albums you just never see. I use Discogs and Ebay but only if it's something I really want, and can't find it in the wild, also, if I see something on Ebay that's overpriced, I can usually find it cheaper on Discogs, that's not always the case, but, I saw the Alan Bown LP on Ebay for $45, then found it on Discogs for $17. You have a great knack for finding awesome albums! Thanks for sharing this amazing stack of great LPs.

I don't buy records online very often, my collection is based on in the wild purchases. To me that's real collecting! I'd say be careful, pick records from dealers that are well established and have an excellent seller rating. Grading is another story. People have different opinions on grading. For an example, I bought an LP that was described as VG+, to me it was VG. I grade hard. If you stay with records that are graded high, NM, EX etc. I think you have a better chance of not being disappointed. I would most likely never buy a record online that's graded VG or below, unless It was something rare and valuable, then maybe. Lucky for me, I don't have any HORROR stories to tell 🤬

There are still deals to be found on eBay. The key? Auctions. As someone who has sold tons of records on eBay, I have long preferred Buy It Now/Best Offer listings to Auctions when selling. Not only do I get better prices, but I do not even sit on inventory that much longer. It seems that there are like five sellers on eBay who get good prices for records at auction. The rest of us just get a bunch of watchers who each think he or she alone has come up with the genius idea to bid at the last second-and then they all forget to actually bid. And now that eBay wants to be Amazon Jr and prioritizes listings that basically allow buyers to return records whenever and for whatever reason, auctions are even worse for those of us who only accept returns when we fail to describe the record properly or ship it safely.
As a seller, I hate this. But as a buyer? I exploit it. Keep an eye on those auctions! Well, unless the seller is Bob Djukic, Funk You, Carolina Soul, and like two others. Then you'll pay a premium.
And I know your frustration with eBay has to do with bad descriptions and poor packaging, but I needed to have my rant, haha. You seem to know all about deals. I do agree, though. Sometimes eBay is too easy. Some records I insist on holding out for in person. I want it staring back at me from the bin.
