    I appreciate your appreciation for the ability of using wonderful handcrafted tools. Indeed life has beautiful gems hidden in them, this would be one of them. God is great!

    i truly don't think any other hand tool makes a more satisfying sound. Crafted tools in craftsman hands. People forget how therapeutic our jobs can be when you slow down and enjoy the work in question.

    Some pleasures are better to be avoided; I was pruning today my Prunus laurocerasus by hand; using Löwe secateurs for the side and Fiskars garden shears for the top. From 7 in the morning till 5 o’clock in the afternoon. This video of yours has almost knocked me out.

    I absolutely love mine, great for buxus topiary but I also use them for lavender. What is amazing about the tobisho shears is how light and precise they are.
    I love trimming buxus, a steady relaxed even pace, one of the most relaxing jobs, almost for me as enjoyable as pruning roses.

    Hi I recently bought these, unfortunately I had to pay for mine but I've lusted after them for years( most normal people would think you were mad to pay £500 for shears when Wilkos sell shears for £3 a pair).
    I've got the okatasune & all the other tobisho secateurs & clippers but these shears are not only beautiful but work fantastic. If you are serious about cloud pruning & you can afford them get them.

    The Japanese Okatsune 30" hedge shears have the same sound and quality feel but at under $100. If you tried the Okatsune you would never pay 6x! extra for the Niwaki nor would you settle for any lesser. Once I thought I lost my Okatsune and I was in such despair that I immediately bought another. Most of my garden consists of topiary.

      I see your point mate but we get taxed in the UK.. I’m a self employed gardener and the money that I wouldn’t have spent on the Tobisho Shears it would go to the tax man unfortunately.
      Hands down they are amazing to use.. extremely light and the handles are made of magnolia obivata the steel also holds its edge due to the blades being blue paper steel. The first summer I used the shears with the work that I had (box cutting for a whole week) practically paid for them. I bought them when they were £500, I believe they have gone up in price.. are they worth it? Absolutely 👍 I love Japanese Culture 🇯🇵 so I had to have them in my tool arsenal.

    Very Nice indeed but don`t be afraid to try Fiskars £20 if you cant justify the £500 , they give you the same relaxing feeling albeit you will need to sharpen them a bit more frequently and iif you have several estates with Buxus you can allocate several pairs :) .

    Great demonstration. Thanks! A question about the shears: How good a fit is the central pivot rivet, I.e is there any play between the blades when open? I ask this because I have Niwaki topiary (straight shears), which is a nut and bolt fixing, and there’s a lot of play at that point. I can literally wobble the blades when fully open , and adjusting the bolt has no effect. Niwaki say this is normal for Topiary shears, which I’m not convinced about. I’m assuming the Tobisho’s central rivet can’t be adjusted. Your thoughts appreciated.

    • @TheFullyChargedGardener
      @TheFullyChargedGardener  2 года назад

      Hi, There is a bit of play in the blades.
      It doesn’t seem to effect the performance of the shears at all though.
      I will have to see how they go after a few years of use - see how much they slacken off.
      I hope you are enjoying your shears - definitely don’t over tighten them, as it will make it hard work to use them.
      Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment.

      @garethesplin5673 Год назад

      They are designed with play in the blades. The user holds the handles and slightly rotates their wrists to take out the play. These are genuine Tobiho shears NOT Niwaki. They do make their own, poorer, copies. Tobisho tools are superbly made by true craftsmen. I have nothing positive to say about Niwaki.

    What is the point of our comments ? I’m a full time professional gardener. I have bahco shears, it’s amazing. I could do one box with it only, but not a 50 different shapes. Makita long reach hedge trimmer is the answer. Just don’t have time for shears 🤭🤭. That’s one thing. £500 for a shears???? Just bonkers!!! How can you do 50 box plants with these? Are you a super human?

      I guess it all comes down to choice. Much in the same way some Chefs choose to use a food blender, where as some chefs use expensive knives.
      Hand made tools are always more expensive than machine made tools. 😀 Just lucky I guess 😀 Thank you for watching

      Box moth is being kept in check in this garden (so far) by a healthy bird population.
      The box blight on the other hand is a nightmare and does require spraying to keep in under control.

      Sharpening takes a little more time and concentration due to the curved blades 😀 I only use them on our buxus, so they hold their edge beautifully 😀
