Star Citizen Doesn't Suck Anymore

- Star Citizen didn't suck. There were just a lot of parts of it that sucked and we all tried to ignore them because of the parts that didn't suck at all. Not all of the game is suck-free now, but the ratio of suck to not suck is much more agreeable at this point.

Game Review, Abbreviated Review, #starcitizen
I forgot to mention the new feature that eliminated one of the suckiest parts of the game - ammo pooling. Now I won't have 15 magazines with between one and three bullets rattling around in my pockets anymore.

Hmm, maybe it's time for my yearly check-in
absolutely. 3.23 is amazing.
Don't believe it, lol. My package delivery mission couldn't complete, there's still invisible asteroids, scanning doesn't work properly, wind is still blowing ships over, you still fall through the mesh, bunkers are wonky, new hunting wildlife missions wouldn't complete, I randomly died climbing down the ladder of the vulture. That's just what I experienced in a few days.
The new features work very well. But don't be fooled, it's still the same old buggy Star Citizen.
3.23 has a ton of new features, but 3.23.1 will launch with Invictus (May 17) where anyone can play the game for free and try every one of the 169 ships.
After that is 3.23.X which gives us the cargo+item overhaul (freight elevators, item banks, etc.) and your own persistent hangars (with giant ship elevator).
After that is 4.0 which is server meshing and Pyro.
After that is 4.X.1 which is server meshing per planet, finally helping us get real server improvements, and potentially 800 players in A shard.
So, yeah. The next 12 months will be huge. The biggest changes ever.
@@BigBobBlazer In terms of features, it's really, really good alright. I played a few hours when it launched and most of the issues are caused by poor server performance. I stopped playing again after checking the patch out. I'll return when static server meshing is online and we get constant 30 fps tickrate servers. Otherwise, the stress of an incomplete and buggy mission would stress me out lol.
@@BigBobBlazer unlucky. it’s been smooth sailing for me. i’m loving 3.23.
Your playful language and comical sarcasm is not too heavy but outrageously funny. Subscribed =)
Tried for my 3rd day to play it yesterday.
Couldn't take off in my Ship, got Impounded. Happened exactly the same again. Went to my ship in the Hanger and my ship was invisible, had to restart game. Spent a whole hour just trying to get out of the Hanger due to bugs...
I want to play this game so badly, but it's so unfunctional sometimes.
as a new player myself, ive not once had this issue? are you sure its not a you problem?
@@G0DKILLER_ Just having the HOTAS plugged in was causing it.
I've never once had this issue. I'm guessing you're running the game on old school pc
@@rixxy9204 Yep. That's it. Thanks. Swapped to a 3090 and 7800x3D and that fixed it.
@@RanmanLive That and move to 32Gig of RAM. It makes a world of difference.
Don't lie, this game sucks hard nuts.
Coherent.
Haha this is the best 3.23 review!
Agree!
I just bought Star Citizen and the bugs and performance make it borderline unplayable. It’s a joke. 10 years and $674 million and we still have nothing but a glorified tech demo.
The best thing about this joke is how much fun it is to play.
@@AbbreviatedReviews yeah, for the 5 minutes you can actually play before you run into a game breaking bug haha.
Yeah i bet the servers still crash....no thanks.
I logged in, within 30 secs I dropped dead for no reason. Flew all the way back to my corpse, that surprisingly IS there. Could open the loot menu but it auto closes. Can't drag body. Pain. It's so buggy
That's what Star Citizen will be forever. A lot of great ideas/concepts, but unplayable if you value your time.
just happened to me im done playing shit its so ass lol
Wellllllll technically, it's playable. But i wouldnt say it doesnt suck. It just sucks a bit less. 3.23 is a pretty rough patch i wont lie
I haven't checked SC in well over a year. 😆
I was sad when they took the hangars away. Now I may actually install it again just to check how it all has been "updated".
New ships ladies and gentlemen? Ready your wallets! Or Chris ROberts will be disappointed!
He probably should have released more ships then... But I think a couple are coming in later 3.23.x updates to make him happy.
You can't spell Roberts without rob. 😏
High-Definition cliff racers got me.
It'll stop sucking when servers actually work. Fingers crossed that's 4.0, but we shall see.
Let me fix it for you. *star citizen sucks less now*
Your wit and wordplay are next level. Found this highly entertaining, informative and enjoyable. Got yourself a new sub.
No. It still sucks. Given server meshing itll hopefully not suck.
I say this as a person that plays a couple times a week.
I disagree.
While the update brings a lot of the things that the game has been in dire need of for a long time it also bring in a new heading that aims to dumb down the depth and complexity that was promised to pander to a wider audience, subsequently offering a much shallower experience that can not offer a long term progression in terms of personal growth in being skilled at a profession and therefore kills specialization; everyone can get good at everything in a short amount of time and then it is simply a matter of who has the patience to engage in a repetitive grind..
So, the game does, in fact, now actually suck while before it was simply work in progress.
The core of the game has changed and in my personal opinion has been neutered. But I'm old and should probably find a nice tree to fall asleep under. Anyway, subscribed, solid vid.
Maybe "wow it sucks less!". As always the mostly accurate SC review! Can't wait for 3.23.1...
Lots of great features and UI overhauls but to say it doesn't suck is a bit of white lie.
Logged in last night and played with the homie and there is just still a litany of bugs surrounding missions. Weapons not picking up infinitely rapid spawning enemies making incredibly low level ground ops almost unplayable.Got out with the package successfully in the end but game crashed. Relaunch got me right back in to the same spot with my ship and everything but I fall through the terrain of the planet. Blah blah blah, these kind of things persist so it still sucks in some regards
But it's coming along for sure.
I am kind of liking the flight changes actually. And overall engine appears to be running smoother.
Oh and all your old keybinds for joystick are likely completely broken now. Will need to spend a few hours remapping and redesigning your key layouts.
I will say it "sucks less." There are still bugs and head-aches, particularly this week with the server load on Free-Fly and big events. But yes, this 3.23 patch has done some really cool things for stability and gameplay, and really since about 3.20 you can "actually play it like a game" for the most part.
I've been really enjoying 3.23. I was annoyed with master mode, but now I've got the hang of it and I actually like it now. I've played about 12 hours over 3 days and had zero issues with servers or anything
Wow holy shit I haven't played SC in years, glad I came across this vid, guess I'm coming back for a while.
Nice try lmao
Bro the game still sucks major bawls and is beyond unplayable. Every single contract is bugged and the new star map is janky as hell, sometime npt letting you set a route.
Its been a couple of years since i played. I told myself i wasn't goon near this game again until 4.0 or i could introduce it to my friends and not be embarrassed. It might be ready after the 11 years of bullshit.
Star Citizen backers emerging from the fallout of the wastelands to catch up only to vanish for the next 2 millennia (next patch or 4.0 ofc)
but we do have enough to complain about, they took away my Reclaimer :(
unfortunately we can still experience a 30k, but now it requires the reliability, or lack there of, of ATT internet service.
Lol ok this video is sarcasm......
But yeah this patch is not great... I cannot even play due to a game breaking bug!
i cant believe the game has been in dev for like 10+ years and only now is it getting to the point where things 'dont suck' lol. 800 mil well spent i guess
Yes it does suck still can get good frame rates still with a 4k gaming pc.
I mean, I don't think it sucked before. BUT I WISH IT WOULD RUN
New players! Use a ref code when you sign up. Preferably mine.
Preferably mine
oh it does STILL sux - and there are new bugs for us to play with... i think 3.22 had me in for about 3 hours and then 3.23 MAYBE an hour! Now we wait for the next update
You do you. I think it deserves more than a single hour of your time but that's just me. Certainly still has frustrating bugs, but I've had fun with it.
@@ctzn3lack i guess just in that hour i realized we have new and old bugs. I don't have much time to "play" so being one that enjoys cargo hauling, i decided to retrieve the Hull C at a SS - it still does not arrive at the docking port, same as 3.22 i flew around a bit testing the new controls and star map and decided i'll see what the next patch brings
What kind of computer do you have? How much did it cost? How many hours did you spend tweaking it to run Star Citizen "ok"?
I have a high end rig and the game runs like crap. Do you need a NASA computer that cost 10 000 dollars to make this run smooth? Or is it all the unofficial patches / mods / tweaks that makes it run okay? Cause on my rig it does not run well. Not to mention the bugs, glitches, crashes.
I have a very mid-range computer. AMD 5800x3d, 32 GB of RAM, Nvidia RTX 3070. It's probably not even "mid range" anymore. There aren't any mods or unofficial patches, but there are tweaks for settings that can aid in performance. But a lot of the slowdowns in SC are from server-side issues, not client side, so there's nothing you can do. But you also can't expect 120 FPS at 4K either because while they are optimizING, wouldn't call anything here "optimized." In cities it's prettty normal to barely squeeze 30 FPS, but when you get out into space or areas outside of dense player action, it's easy to be well over 60. CIG has long maintained a "telemetry" page that lets you see average framerates for a wide variety of hardware across several patches. robertsspaceindustries.com/telemetry
The key takeaway though is that the current version of SC pushes multithreading pretty hard, requires a hefty amount of memory, and absolutely must be installed on an SSD. The last part is even on their minimum requirements page.
The game never sucked, the slow development did.
Now it LOOKS like they have finally ramped it up, but I prefer to wait and keep an eye on the long-term trend.
Either way one of my favorite games, now more than ever.
Nah, it still does. Due to the gltiches, It took almost 2 hours to finish the tutorial. Refunded after that headache.
I bet I could make a garden thrive with a little sunshine and the first forty seconds of this video because your CO2 to O2 exchange was more blow than suck. Either that, or your editing is on point---assuming that point is to make me aware of my own breathing.
Making these videos have made me pretty good at surviving without breathing.

In all seriousness, I absolutely love your style, sense of humor, and writing talents. I hope you never lose your love for doing such lovely work.
If you listen carefully, in almost every video I end up with a line so long I run out of air by the end.
If I ever stop doing these videos it will because I passed out and impaled myself on my microphone.
@@AbbreviatedReviews I will breathe easier if that day ever comes, but I'll do it sadly.
3.23 is great but they do need to adjust the new flight model, it's a bit too dumbed down imo.
6:16 there is a way to show 30K being fixed by this Replication layer, when you'd normally have 30K now it says SERVER ERROR.PLEASE WAIT... u wait about 5min and its all good, u can continue playing, its not server meshing still, also if u dont complain why would they develop game more and fix it on the way so its better to complain about bugs and wait for them fixing'em
I didn't get it to happen while I was testing, but it did show up later on, which was a pretty neat outcome.
4:34 There is no Easter Bunny. There is no Tooth Fairy. There is no Queen of England. This is the real world, and you need to wake up!
do the server wipes still suck?
They never have. Everyone playing Star Citizen in the development process knows that no matter what you do, it's going to be erased before launch and probably a dozen times before that too.
Nope, it still SUCKS. Too many bugs to play still.
effin around - magnificent pun, subscribed =D
will we be able to tame wildlife? I want one of those cave dogs as pet ^^
Help please i just bought the game and everything in play it shows up error code 30k and im stuck in infinite load screen
This isn't exactly the place for tech help. Try Spectrum on the SC website or reddit.
I just tried this out for the first time.
I do not like it. I've been messing around in the pirate swarm mode with the most basic ship and essentially I CANNOT KILL ANYTHING. Missiles refuse to lock, the laser repeater does bugger all to enemies, and when I tried using a couple of railguns, they don't do much when they hit and they're almost impossible to hit with thanks to that moronic charge up period.
The developers seem to have messed with how gimbals work compared to all the tutorials I watched so I have no idea what the different aiming modes are actually doing now.
It all just feels bad. Why the hell do I need to enter a special mode to shoot missiles? Wing Commander had a BUTTON for this.
Small ships feel stupidly hard to hit, considering how often they're hitting ME...
I haven't done the tutorial lately so I'm not sure, I don't even remember there being anything about gimbals. There's definitely a learning curve for SC though. It's not a game you walk into and instantly know how to do everything. It's designed to have a lot of depth, which is why there are things like dedicated modes for missile operators, scanning, mining, salvaging, and so on. Some ships and vehicles have those roles split across multiple players.
@@AbbreviatedReviews To be clear, I meant youtube tutorials for the game. It seems that Gimbals used to work by having a big circle on your screen that you put targets inside. Outside of which they wouldn't lock on.
That's no longer present as far as I can see.
Thanks for making my day. Hilarious.
My cutlass black is stuck in vtol mode at all times
3.23 is definitely an improvement
No elevator or personal hangar? Title lies
Oh no, he said it doesn't suck! Here come the pitchforks and torches...
It's accurate on so many levels😂
Morrowind reference detected, like granted
If I dont spend 3/4 of my ingame time fighting the game to let me finish 9/10 missions I undertake, for it to just bug out and fail, then I might give it another shot. 😂 I got into the game a year or two ago with a friend and basically almost EVERYTHING and I mean EVERYTHING we tried to do bugged out one way or another.
are you f'ing serious, the only improvement is arguably the UI, there is no new gameplay and much of the existing gameplay has been completely nutered
Yup, nothings changed. Content creators continue to milk each update saying "its game changing", when it really isn't. Pretty much everything is broken in this patch
Here is a list of broken stuff before anyone yaps:
- Bunkers dont spawn enemies sometimes
- Corsair shields dont generate sometimes
- Ship repairs make you pay full price for the turrets resulting in ridiculous repair prices
- Docking Ports not extending most of the time
- Cant store certain items after buying them, when other items you can
- Contracts not accepting and taking your money
- Contracts not completing
- 30Ks with no server recovery
- Server Recovery abandoning your mission and losing all your progress
- Elevator doors dont open sometimes or break all together
- C2 Starlifter elevator animations broken
- Cant use multi tool in armistice zone for cargo management
- Bunker AI teleporting and barely fighting back
- Ship combat extremely unbalanced
- Ship randomly exploding
- Mobiglass obstructed by armor
- Cutlass Red medbay screen broken/cant see it
- infinite loading screen trying to join the verse
- picking up/dropping/placing/eating items is coded by a 5 year old, buggy as usual
- fast ground vehicles randomly blowing up hitting invisible geometry
- bunker turrets not engaging until you engage even though its trespassing and hostile
- large ass armistice zone icon, doesnt match new UI at all
- no remote turret UI at all
- cant use vulture external ladder
- vulture cargo grid vanishing after storing
- station trams wildly going off track
- quantum effect buggy
- giant ass light on top of your ship that looks awful and cant turn it off
- voip not working
- vulture tractor beam buggy
- npcs on planets/stations freak out randomly
- every single hangar has floating box
- helmet hip attach buggy and can lose your helmet
- auto land not working at all
- starmap navigation is just awful, the only good thing is the search bar
- backwards floating text for pilot seat on certain ships
- so much more.....
100% the game is soulless
@@pvtryana lot from that list is a bunch a lies out of your ass man.
The distro centres aren't new? The new cargo missions at the distro centres (even without freight elevators) aren't new gameplay? Hunting fauna isn't new gameplay? Fauna in caves isn't new gameplay? The new grav race tracks aren't gameplay? The new control game modes aren't new gameplay? The new investigation missions aren't new gameplay? The new ground cargo missions aren't new gameplay? Really?
It did suck and it still does.
Have you ever considered voice acting?
I've considered it, but I don't know if I have the time to commit to it. But if someone ever came to me to do some limited stuff I'd probably give it a shot.
All I have to say its alpha, it's still in progress..also with what the final goal is the release date is far off. I have been a citizen for 7 years been happy, been sad but over all I have always wanted to play.
That hair tech is fine.
It's definitely come a long way quickly. One of the better ones out there now.
Pff. The long hair in the intro clips through the ears! Literally unplayable.
Once the new GI comes into play this game will look and feel so much better
Nice voice dude
Thank you!
As someone who spent a good 20 hours since 2.23 dropped, it still sucks. Getting killed in elevators, getting thrown from the tram, quests broken, bugged npcs with infinite hp, quest npcs that don't spawn, deaths from walking in a store on MT for no reason, ship exploding for no reason going 3m/s, bugged inventory, bugged looting and so much more is what I experienced in my 20 hours of play time. I have a beast of a PC, rocking a 7800x3d, 3090 and 64gb DDR5 and at least I'm finally getting good fps but other than that, it's a shit show.
Yeah muted and 0:57-1:00 the stuttering.
Cool.
Nice snarky voiceover. Concise and to the point. Appreciated.
Is mech on their list?
The closest thing to a mech that has ever been talked about is the "Titan suit," but they haven't mentioned that in along time. It's apparently still being developed as part of Squadron 42 though - which means it may still show up in Star Citizen.
Wrong, it just sucks a little less.
It's still unplayable if you have the slightest bit of respect for your own time.
Quantum UI is shit
New starmap still is janky and breaks
Missions break constantly
I’ve died just randomly
Fallen through the floor
New UI doesn’t even tell you when you are or aren’t in commlink
Making money made harder while ships get increased cost
Tell me what is better now, maybe that the servers sometimes work definitely a high bar
I just made a whole video about what is better. You might want to check it out.
@@AbbreviatedReviews one step forward 2 steps back
Yeah the game is super fun. Regardless of all the bugs and issues.
I tried the new update. Simply put, it sucks. Theres no meaningful gameplay in it and all this after 10 years and 700 million dollars. Yea its a kickstarter thats turned kickstarting into a business model to milk as much money as possible with the game dangling infront of you like a carrot on a stick. Save your money. Dont buy it!
Yeah, it’s gone from suck to blow.
Lol you can only make this review if you haven’t played the game , the game is in a terrible state right now and you can tell from player count
Where is the player count?
I've had my issues with game breaking bugs and the like sure but this is one of the most stable patches I've seen over the 10 years of testing. Yes, it's still very alpha, and they have a large backlog of bugs to address, but i was able to have hours upon hours of fun with this patch. It takes patience to play an alpha but it's well worth it if you stick it out.

@Billy-bc8pk really using sheilds and guns slow your ship down is the alternative
This isnt a game its a scam sorry guys. Please dont be fooled
I think the only people who get scammed are the ones that spend real money on new ships
i just played so many amazing games that had a UI that didnt take 10 plus years come on you guys know this is a scam this is total bs
You know we played a lot of those too right? We can support an alpha and also spend our time with other amazing games... and none of those games have an as intricate and diagetic UI as SC but sure think what you will.
Wait, this is still Alpha ?!? Man this ponzi scheme is amazing for Roberts.
youre so original
My favorite ponzi schemes are the ones where you use all of the money to pay hundreds of developers to create the product and people enjoy it.
@@AbbreviatedReviews more specifically 1200+ employees.
@@AbbreviatedReviews Pretty impressive that people complaining about the 'scam' really don't seem to know what the term "ponzi scheme" actually means. Even if it were a scam, it wouldn't be a ponzi.
3.23 would be incredible.
If Master Modes wasn't a thing.
The skill ceiling for Dogfighting for too high before, and now it's in the freakin' underground, it's at best a DPS check and how many people you can gather, not if you're a good pilot or not.
But well, at least the FPS combat is fun, especially when the servers aren't coughing blood
cope and seethe
I think Master Modes are great, they just need balanced like everything else. That "Alpha" thing isn't just a fun word to stick before updates, *everything* is subject to change. I imagine the future will include some adjustments to how damage is dealt or absorbed/deflected.
@@AbbreviatedReviews I'm not saying it's not gonna improve or that it is final. Yogi said that they weren't happy with Master Modes right now, and I'm just saying that it is the ugly part of 3.23, that's it.
Oh and also that the only ones liking the current iteration are probably people who never had a chance in a fight but now they can finally land a shot on someone. And like everytime something is in a bad state, all we can do in doing feedback and finding something else to do, in my case, more FPS combat.
@EroBE14 I'm no expert pilot, but I do ok in most dog fights, and I've played it and love it. I actually think it is more likely that people who haven't played it or given it more than a few hours of token effort are hating on it cause some content creators they watch said they hate it. Sure, it needs work, but it's a lot more fun than live used to be. Have you given it more than a few hours of play time? It takes some getting used to it, and change is always hard in the beginning, but I think CIG is going in the right direction for the vision and future longevity of the game.
@@ctzn3lack I really tried to love it, because I was a defender of it. I'm always the type to say "Improvise, adapt, overcome", but this, is just a step in wrong direction, and CIG will need to give us clear answers of what their new vision of the game is, the reasons of wanting to stay with Master Modes (apart from their ego), and even more laughable is that it didn't fix anything that it was supposed to fix. Jousting ? Still here. Long range combat instead of close one ? Still here, even more since the new Meta are canons 3+ km of range. Multi crew ships getting bullied ? They still are, but not by LFs but by Interceptors now, everyone can get bullied by a Buccaneer.
But they can improve it, of course they can, I've seen many many good feedback post, with solutions given, like one where there is no switching mode manually, but it does it automatically by using your speed as an indicator. (After a certain speed, you begin to loose fire rate on your weapons and be at like 50% shields, and the more you gain speed the less weapon and shield energy you have, until you reach the Nav mode basically)
3.23 is hands down one the worst patches they have ever done this dude is a snake oil sales men even the devs said on the CIG website that they dropped the ball on this patch like 3.18 so don't get you hopes up there isn't a thing in this patch that isnt broke or so bugged its not worth doing and Master modes is a huge step backwards in ship combat/traveling
Someone didn't play 3.18 or 3.0.
Greetings from Hawaii.
Thank you for finally sharing a video that doesn't suck 😋🪐
