Atlas has all the things I like and does nothing with them

  • Science fiction, spaceships, mechs, the OG bakery, what else could I ask for? A plot twist? Some parts that I could remember more than three days later? An AI-generated image that scars me for life? None of that is present, but it still doesn't mean I had a bad time and/or would like to drive a cool mech.

    I've become the number one short-form critic on science fiction movies released exclusively on Netflix.

    Your title pretty much sums up my thoughts as well and totally agreed with the recap. High hopes, meh result. I mean, the robots run to....the Andromeda galaxy. Another GALAXY. And then humanity travels to that other galaxy to attack them. Just...why. All that research and they apparently don't know the difference between another star system and another galaxy.

      Yeah that was a very strange addition. I don't know why it was necessary to include that only to hand-wave past the fact that it's 30 times as far away as the furthest stars in our own galaxy. But given that no one ever talked about it again, it didn't bother me too much.

    Me: how does JLo keep getting roles?
    AB: "Other things..."
    Me: So it's on Netflix, you said?

      JLo brings a special quality to her films that few can match.

    Right off the bat the movie treats his audience like we're stupid. It has to spoon feed us the lore. The writers apparently missed the memo of show don't tell.
    Then the very next thing they do is introduce a major faux pas trope of "I'm a super smart main character and have awesome skills, also I love coffee what a quirk!"
    Also the entire premise of the end struggle was absolutely ridiculous. We are supposed to believe that this person who has made it her life's passion to hunt down and destroy AI suddenly forgets all that so she can McGuffin interlink with her new best friend... The AI... Because it's useful?
    There's so many instances of "real people don't behave like this" I actually questioned whether or not this movie was written by an AI.

    • @NightNord
      @NightNord 4 месяца назад +2

      I mean, the movie very clearly makes a distinction here: making a peaceful humanlike domestic AI is bad, making a huge highly mobile four-arms armored machine of destruction AI is good.
      So yeah, it's definitely written by an AI

    If netflix has the money to fund this slop, they should fund an actual titanfall movie cause jesus christ as a titanfall fan this series is a kick in the nuts

  • @RealPeoplePerson

    There's something incoherent and unconvincing about how this movie looks. Like a zero budget amateur movie, where you can't help but only see four friends of the director and a guy in a rubber suit running around the local woods.

    • @AbbreviatedReviews
      @AbbreviatedReviews  4 месяца назад +1

      It does have that quality, but I watch a lot of indie sci-fi shorts (Dust is a good youtube channel for that) so I see quite a bit of that. Honestly though, some of those are of higher quality than this movie. But that's more of a compliment for what people are squeezing into 10 or 20 minutes for practically no money.

      If you don't want movies spoiled, you probably shouldn't watch video reviews of them. Or trailers for that matter.

  • @Janx14
    @Janx14 3 месяца назад

    Yeah. "okay" is a good way to put it. Its definitely better than a lot of other crap, but also suffers from not being particularly cool, new, interesting, or memorable. It feels like a script that was written 20 years ago and just finally got made now for some reason.
    Also the fact Atlas only faces human-sized enemies the whole movie is just weird.

    • @AbbreviatedReviews
      @AbbreviatedReviews  3 месяца назад +1

      In retrospect, it was a little weird that they made a floating drone platform of fighters but everyone on the ground was just humanoid. Except one guy with four legs.

      @@AbbreviatedReviews The aerial battle is definitely the best battle in the movie. The one in the woods has this weird spy kids vibe. The final one is okay, but it kind of had me going "wait, there's no mech vs mech fight?"
