Trail Hunter since it hunts for trails but too many parts break before it gets there. Call it Tow Hunter since it frequently needs a tow back to the dealer.
I get that with every new generation, the consumer gets more. But all these new Tacomas, from bottom to top, seem to be about $10K over-priced. When a 3rd Gen TRD Pro went from under $50K to a 4th Gen Pro at over $70, that’s a problem.
I am still in love with my 3rd Gen. 2021 TRD PRO in Lunar Rock with 6 speed manual. Local dealers are constantly asking me to trade in for the new one but I can't justify it.

I heard that even Disney changed the Target market from middle class to upper class. Maybe Toyota is also happy with that selling less Taco with a higher price.
Lol. Anything over $48000 is wild for a mid-size Truck. Base should be around $27k, off roads should be $32k, and the TRD pro should be $38-40k. The insanity of the pandemic made the average truck unaffordable. It’s a 4 cyl made in Mexico as well. They’re saving about $14 and hour on labor but prices went up…. That doesn’t make sense to anyone with 2 brain cells.

I would definitely buy a new tundra or Tacoma with an old proven reliable engine. The forced 4 only option is a no go for at least the enthusiast like myself.
When all other trims (excluding Pro) can be had at least $5k off MSRP and with Toyota Promo interest rates, this Trailhunter at MSRP and high interest rate is comparably very expensive and not a good value for most Tacoma buyers.
Untamed, I just bought a 2024 trd sport hybrid, yes expensive, but it drives great, key less entry, all options to make you feel you are not missing a thing, yes definitely no longer the Tacoma of before, I had a 2022 SR 5, this is a game changer, but only time will tell. Have you driven a hybrid one, give us your opinion.
Couldn't agree more. I checked out one at the OC auto show. Very disappointed when compared to my 2015. The bed seemed less usable, interior felt very cheap and visibility was awful. I was impressed surprisingly with the new Land Cruiser 250. Those seem to be better built then these new turds. I won't be getting newer car or truck any time soon though.
They are running out of choices, the platform supports the 6cylinder in the lexus gx. Time to adapt and offer these and the 4runner and landcruisers in the 6 cylinder too. People would probably pay what they want then...
I don't like what they did to the new trucks with the turbocharging & a 🔋 pack for me to buy that truck it would have to be right around 47K... If I had to keep either one long-term? I would keep my 3rd gen Tacoma manual way before that truck!
It is a great looking truck. It has all the offroad accessories you would need except a winch. They used quality components on all the extras. But at the end of the day, it is a 45K truck IF it had a transmission that you could count on to pull you on and off road. It doesn't, so it is worthless. My SIL was thinking about getting one of these. I talked her down from it. She had no idea they were made in Mexico. So she's out and will keep her 22 Rav4 Hybrid.
When I go to the dealer to service my 21 trd pro they tell me to trade in for 24 trd off road and they emailed me one a week to trade in but iam keeping my truck I don't like 4 cylinder admnd the prices Are way to high
Im refusing to buy a toyota tundra or tacoma after 34 years of owning toyotas with zero problems - I have a 2005 toyota tacoma 4.0v6 still running - 2008 fj cruiser still running and a 2018 tundra running great - People only buy Toyotas because they last NOT BECAUSE THE CAR S ARE FASTER NOT BECAUSE THEY HAVE MORE OPTIONS NOT BECAUSE THE RIDE BETTER OR LOOK BETTER !People buy Toyotas for the quality ! If the quality is gone in the tundra and the tacoma no reason to buy it ! The corollas are still the same get a corolla !
I'm with you. 60 years old now and Toyota broke my heart. I have a 2023 4runner which I will keep forever. I always bought honda and toyota for the longevity. If that's gone, I am forced to look elsewhere. I did not see this coming. Too bad.
I personally would never buy a gasoline turbo engine. I would buy a diesel turbo engine. But that said...I prefer the naturally aspirated V-6 overall...
Here in Hawaii where Tacos and Runners are the kings. The new tacos are not selling esp trailhunters piling up over 50 just sitting and they even marked them down.
I think a lot of it is just luxury vehicles and/or ones with high price points aren’t moving. My friend manages a Mercedes dealership and he said their top end vehicles moved very slowly throughout 2024
Wondering what the Denali sitting next to it is going for... comparable quality (never thought I'd say that) with a lot more bells and whistles and a real engine; for probably the same price if not cheaper.
Damn, the only gripe i have is yhe price tag. At 68k you looking at 80k, if not then more, after all the paper work. Theres one nearby and yhe dealship wants no less than 85k for it........
I'm from NY a d the trailhunter near me is going for 72k...very awesome looking truck but that's ridiculous price...maybe for 58k ..all new 2024 tacomas are way over priced...my 2023 trd off road was 42k...love it!!
67k 4 cylinder tacoma isn't impressive. You know what's impressive? I got a paid off 2009 Rav4 V6 Limited 4WD that I got for 10k 3 years ago and is still running strong. Hadn't had to take it to the mechanic yet and I got no debt, my credit score is great and I'm not losing money with deppreciation cause the car is worth the same or more than what I bought it for. That means that if I sell the car today, I would have essentially driven a car for 3 years for free. Oh and btw, I'm a pharmacist so I make pretty good money and I can afford a brand new car but I still don't believe I'm able to comfortably afford a trailhunter for example so I think anyone making less than 100k a year has no right even staring at most brand new cars nowadays. I wouldn't buy it even if I felt I could though as I think the engine option is garbage. I don't like hybrids or turbos due to longevity issues. I also think the space in the back seat is attrotious and the 2nd and 3rd gen Tacos had the perfect amount of space. Not to mention, the electric motor on the rear liftgate is absurd. The frame is made with thinner steel, the transmissions are failing, the bump stops are terrible, and in 2024, the scoop is still fake. They made a truck with forced injection, why not make a functional scoop? The hood vibrates significantly, looks like its made of a thin membrane of metal. I can keep going.
These are $98,000 CDN here in Canada. But the biggest thing that bugs me is they're not built in Texas anymore. i will never buy a Mexican Toyota. USA/Canada/Japan or nothing!
@@isi12345 I have to disagree with you on this. Other manufacturers still build 6 and 8 cyl. Toyota wanted the green credits to pay off debt. So Toyota thought well we are Toyota. So we will discontinue the 6cyl and offer no other engine options. We will give them 4 cyl turbo engines and raise the prices $10,000. They can’t sell them for 6,000 under.
Consumer reports put a high predicted reliability score on this truck. We'll see what happens lol CR has been accurate about the 2022-2023 Tundra with a reliability score around 30 out of 100 which is below average
55k out the door with gap and extended warranty would be reasonable. I bought my brand new 2019 tundra platinum for around 55k the fact that a Tacoma is now more expensive than a Platinum tundra a few years ago is a robbery!!!
Long wheel base, that's why they call it trail hunter. If you want to off road or rock crawl, you should keep your old xtra cabs. 68k just to ride on trail dirt roads.
At a certain point, price becomes the prohibitive factor and it just doesn’t matter what else it’s offering. You’re in a different price bracket with a different customer base.
I just paid $20k for a can-am quad so things are just expensive these days! I also own a 2023 pro 4Runner love it! However I put 65k miles on it and beat the crap out of it in the woods so I’m trading it in for a new 2024 pro 4Runner! 62k otd!
Iforce max is an awesome daily driver in my LC and a huge improvement over the old v6. Pricing is absurd and the only reason it’s not selling as quickly as expected. And you asked so I think bronze oxide is hideous lol
Whoever is loading up this 4 cylinder engine with heavy mods and still going up the mountain is a savage. I would not trust that engine with all that weight.
If the choice is between this truck and the Jeep Rubicon, I'm currently a Jeep owner, I would pick the Tacoma. I would pick the Tacoma. A well laid out Rubicon is 10 to $15,000 more than this Plus you still will need to build it up. This comes pretty much prepackaged with everything you need to get on the trail from day one. Not to mention they drive great compared to the Jeep which wanders all over the highway.
Have a friend picked up 2024 62k tundra for 5k below invoice. He leased it for 485 monthly with msd due at lease. Otherwise, it's 0 down. The only way I would get these new toyota trucks is leasing them with a crazy deal. 🤪
Wished these dealerships would stop putting that front license plate on. Leave it off and let me decide if I want it on. If your state doesn't require it, I don't want to have to fill the holes they drilled. Way too much for a midsized truck, let alone a 4 cylinder turbo. Very happy with my 2024 Nissan Frontier Pro 4X, simple, reliable, and quality built here in the U.S. and for $22k less than this Trailhunter.
They look cool. But at 54 years old I’m about a naturally aspirated 6 banger, non hybrid setup with a robust traditional automatic transmission ,solid transfer case and less corner cutting. I’m a pass.

That color is pretty awesome.
@@doodly23capital agreed 👌 💯
They are running out of choices, the platform supports the 6cylinder in the lexus gx. Time to adapt and offer these and the 4runner and landcruisers in the 6 cylinder too. People would probably pay what they want then...
The V6 is gone due to the EPA's impossible emissions standards. All part of their master plan to force everyone to buy an electric vehicle.
I don't like what they did to the new trucks with the turbocharging & a 🔋 pack for me to buy that truck it would have to be right around 47K... If I had to keep either one long-term? I would keep my 3rd gen Tacoma manual way before that truck!
Makes the mid 50s Ranger Raptor look like a steal.
Awesome looking Truck!! I wish to have the 6foot bed trailhunter fully stocked with that roof rack and at an affordable price of 47k..
I'd buy it today if that dealership was closer. I can't get a trailhunter allocated anywhere near me right now.
Too bad.
I really wish Toyota just kept the V6 and added an 8 speed transmission with the 2024 refresh
@@rndsommer40 same here… that would have gone over muuuuch better.
Very nice tacoma trail hunter i get mine next week can't wait 🎉
Love the look ,especially the bronze Oxide. NOT paying that for a cylinder and especially not the hybrid electric
I gave it a “👍” before watching the whole thing.
Delusional Pricetags everywhere!
These are $98,000 CDN here in Canada. But the biggest thing that bugs me is they're not built in Texas anymore. i will never buy a Mexican Toyota. USA/Canada/Japan or nothing!
The looks are awesome, they did good there. Fail though on powertrain choices and price is laughable.
Main thing is lack of power train choices
I would buy that in a heartbeat if it was 50K and made in Japan. Great looking taco
I agree this should have been in the 50s
Ridiculous prices. But GOVT played a big hand in creating this crisis. (Pretty much all the major crisis)
Nope. Stick with 3rd Gen. I supercharged and regeared mine and super happy with performance and reliability.
Consumer reports put a high predicted reliability score on this truck. We'll see what happens lol
CR has been accurate about the 2022-2023 Tundra with a reliability score around 30 out of 100 which is below average
That longer wheelbase will make as hard to turn as a battleship..That is why I like my 2004 Tacoma reg cab 4x4 auto
A Mexican built Toyota?; give me an American built Ford
Beautiful and well equipped truck .... but the drivetrain issues and price are showstoppers for me !!!
At a certain point, price becomes the prohibitive factor and it just doesn’t matter what else it’s offering. You’re in a different price bracket with a different customer base.
It’s stunning for sure. Color and content. But that price is even more STUNNINGLY stupidily high.
“A mandatory 4 banger underneath the hood”. 😂
I just paid $20k for a can-am quad so things are just expensive these days! I also own a 2023 pro 4Runner love it! However I put 65k miles on it and beat the crap out of it in the woods so I’m trading it in for a new 2024 pro 4Runner! 62k otd!
$20-62K is not expensive. Putting 65,000 miles on a 4Runner in 1 years is impressive.
The stupid shocks mounted on front seats take almost every square inch of rear seat leg room away.
The entire mid-sized truck market is suffering from the stupid levels of overpricing.
@@robg1413 that is a fact… I’d still snag a Ranger Raptor for $57K before this. Or a Frontier Pro4X for $41K.
Toyota Tacoma sr 4x4 going for $35000 or less in scottsdale AZ - Buy 2 for the price of one trail hunter !
Just hit 250k on my supercharged 4 door 4x4 01’ Tacoma. This one is wonderful but if you asked me to switch to the new one I would humbly pass.
It's been sold. Maybe the dealer should give Untamed Motors a referral fee.
I’m a pass.
Honestly, for 67k you can buy a ford ranger raptor with a 10 years warranty and still got some changes left to do some mods
This is what a healthy car market looks like: cars sitting on the lots for a few weeks before ultimately selling at reasonable prices.
Looks amazing. Overpriced. I’ll be keeping my third gen. And possibly be looking at a GM twin next go around… at least their 2.7 seems built well.
