Everyone has is place to achieve a lot of sounds in different situation. Then, there is personal taste. The Guv'nor is awesome for classic rock/hard rock and i like Rat too. Nice video!!
DS1 with Single coils and MXR with humbuckers have been my go-to goose pedals in front of a Marshall amp for 40 years. I keep trying new pedals , but...
Long live the rodent🤘Also, I think I need a Guv’nor now. Hearing the D+ in action has me even more excited for the clone of it I’m about to build. Honorable mention to HM-2. Obviously way more range than it’s usually given credit for. Definitely more than just a saw.
The MXR and the Rat were nice, but that Guv'nor, man, it was awesome! In the other hand, the Boss, the Maxon, the Metal Zone and the Friedman, they all chug 🤘🏻
It was weird when it occurred to me that punk's initial wave (1976-77) involving The Sex Pistols, The Damned, X Ray Spex etc happened before distortion pedals were as readily available and common as they quickly became later. You listen to "Damned Damned Damned", and the guitar work is almost totally clean. But they sounded kickass regardless, because the playing itself is really aggressive. I wonder how weary The Sex Pistols got with their practice sessions, with Steve Jones having to turn up a Twin Reverb up to 10 in order to get any meaningful distortion, lol. No wonder Johnny Rotten is a bitter grouch. 😂 I'm old enough; there were "fuzz boxes", but nothing I'm aware of re dirt boxes which sounded more amp-like, before Boss etc appeared.
Great video!!been playing hard rock and metal since '78 and have had all these pedals.what I've been using since it came out is the nux plexi crunch.amazing pedal for under $50 and olays everything from blues to metal.
Overall i was prerty surprised by the mxr. Standalone as a pedal the freidman was very good but fell short with the amp test. Srandalone as a pedal didn't really like the sound of the Maxon, but boy did it come alive together with the amp.
I love the MXR and funny how the DS1 sounds like a jar of bees. I already have 12 distortion pedals so I need the MXR too. Are the new ones as good as the vintage ones?
Uso el MXR dist +, y lo seguiré haciendo. El Maxton tiene una excelente definición. El RAT es icónico. Excelente tu trabajo, muy profesional!
One of the best demos on youtube. Congrats mate.
That Friedman really sounds like the HM2.

Sonic distortion is such a sleeper pedal. Glad you included it.

Marshall. Good dynamic, headroom, clarity.

I got pleasantly surprised by the MXR. Who needs a tone control :D
Very best video distortion pedals comparison ever!
Damn, i love videos like this :)
Great demo of distortion pedals ❤️ Really loved it 🔥 Greetings from Philippines ❤️❤️❤️
Great demo! If you ask me, it is the Rat followed by the MXR.

MXR FTW. Wish I hadn’t sold mine now.
Good comparison video, congratulations!

And consumer based guitar tuners didn't exist till late 1983. We used a pitch pipe or tuning fork.

Best testing methodology I've seen.
MXR Distortion + and Boss HM2 for me.

Guv'nor. MXR is very good too
MXR RAT
Distortion+>everything
MXR and Maxon for me.
MXR baby! (RAT too)
RAT and Guv'nor are the best to my taste.
Please make history of overdrive pedals.
Well that guvenor is rare quite rare now... For good reason
Perfect video! For me mxr dist+ evreyday!
dynamic check most important test... also i couldn't believe how bad the rat was at low gain

Brilliant demo, other youtube content should take a leaf out of your book, IE cut out the verbal diarrhea.
For me....MXR Distortion+
I’m surprised at how close the rat and distortion + are
I love my Proco Dirty Rat :)
Germanium clipping is where it’s at. I’m surprised the Dirty Rat is not spoken of more often.
is it my imagination or are you playing the ones you like with just a little more flair
The Marshall Guv'nor is my favorite of these pedals. Sounds like a Marshall (duh) and Marshall is the sound of Rock N Roll. Simple as that!

Ya I wouldn't see why they would be as good or better. But you can go down the rabbit hole on that
RAT still king of dirt
Gain check clarity Be-od

El Friedman és espectacular, pero li teniu tanta por que el teniu tancat, ofegat, apagat,....
maxon is awesome, I have it, but its much better with tone knob at 9 oclock
rat king 🐀👑
MXR and Rat were my picks. That DS1 sounds like hot garbage
It hasn’t aged very well but it was great innovation for the time
