I love these videos. Just one thing. 30 years ago I bought the DS-1, my first pedal, that I still have. The tone setting at noon never (NEVER) worked for me. The first thing I learned was to turn it to the left and then dial in a tone. So, if anyone thinks the DS-1 sounds just like the examples given, the answer is: no. Yes, I understand the purpose of this vid and I am not complaining :-). So in short - I had to learn how extreme the tone control changes the DS-1 sound and usability. Great pedals, btw.
Exactly, just bought a DS1 a few weeks ago after not having one for 20 years (had one when I first started playing and it got stolen). And yes , you’re right, the DS1 rules but you have to dial the tone almost all the way left and leave it dialed up only to the point you get a little clarity and leave it, it should never be past noon in most cases and the DS1 sounds amazing. I think a lot of people that hate on the pedal don’t realize that the circuit is not designed to sound “good” with it at noon, it’s just the way the circuit works, it cuts bass and adds a lot of treble as soon as you turn it past a certain point, and every amp and guitar will have a spot where it sounds best toward the left.

What a great job, man!.This is one of The Best test of caracteristics of this classic line. I love Roland/BOSS and this is one of the most real and general review of the particularities. Good work! Greetings from argentina.
It is 100% confusing why Boss stopped making the HM2 and why isn't there a Waza OD1. The OD1 and HM2 could give me every drive sound I would ever need. The OD3 comes close but still is missing that natural sound of the OD1.
As a History lesson, it's pretty sparse. You missed ALOT of pedals they made over the years. That said, good demo for what it is. IAFAIC, the two originals- the OD1 and the DS1- have always been my favorites despite all the gobs of pedals they made. DS1 with single coil strats through an old NMV or early MV that is already cooking, and the OD1 as a lead goose with Gibsons and the Marshalls.
Agreed. Not a history lesson but a very good demo of the most popular Boss drive pedals that are on the market. Well only just with the HM2 Waza. Too many pedals cause ear fatigue also so I think they kept it to a good number here.

I just love them all!
My favorites: BD2, OD3 and Metal Zone!
The one and only. Boss OD1! Best Overdrive of all Time.......
Cool! It is a pity that my favorite OD-2 TurboOverdrive is absent. It came out in 1985. An underrated pedal!
Great video guys!! I love (and i know i will always do) my sd-1.
I tried all of them but the HM.Blues driver and OD3 are my favs
I love the EQ of the Metal Zone & would probably put it before the BD, with the distortion down, to colour the BD gain. Great video as always guys 👍

Good video, as always. Of course there were/are a lot more great and versatile drive pedals from Boss.
