This was the best video. I thought dry brushing was the technique I was going for and my piece did not turn out right then I seen this video and this is exactly what I was looking for thank you so much so helpful....
Hello there from Perth...Australia....this video is absolutely awesome!!!...well explained...easy to follow and you can apply this to all different paints and items....brilliant Jenni....bye for now xxxxx
Wow that's incredible it looks like I could just use any old junk paint that I have laying around the house leftover from other projects as long as it dried properly and I stayed to the light to dark theme. That piece looks really great thank you so much
This method is the most full-proof for a more professional antique look. There are many videos, here I see, that overly distress furniture making it look as if a child got into the paints and brushes.
Tip: Take the mirror out of the frame before painting. Most are designed to make that easy since mirrors sometimes need replacement. You will be able to clean all surfaces. The frame without the mirror is much lighter weight. Beautiful painting effect. Thank you.
Valkyrie Sardo Tip: many antique mirrors have been built with wood around it making it impossible to remove the mirror without taking apart the entire frame.
Kerrie Shannon Actually, you can still see the other layer of paint. The process of adding a middle layer is to make an illusion of a more 3D look. Even a fine line showing through creates dimension.
hi i loved your video very easy to follow. can you tell me what is the waiting time in between each paints and are you using acrylic paint for the sec and third coat
A-mazing! Thank you for for keeping this simple. Some people make this so technical or just say nothing at all and make it look effortless. Bless you. Subscribed, Notifications On, looking for your I.G.
Looks great...not just the application, but the color is awesome too. Say, do you think this would work on a wall as well? I know you don't have the nooks & crannies, but with lightly wiping down the walls couldn't you get the dimension to a wall? And again, nothing but paint/water was used? TIA
I bought some desks and dressers and they are plain white. Can I just go ahead and do a color wash over it or do I need to do something to it first besides clean it?
Someone please answer. Why aren’t you sanding the piece before you paint? I’m always sanding everything. What do I need to know? Thank you for all the awesome ideas!
Lifebee LifeBee I just added an extra layer for interest. I've only done two before (skipping to the darkest) and it turns out great! my very favorite is here, www.rootsandwingsfurniture.com/blog/tealcolorwash
Can you use different colors as in instead of only doing different shades of the same color could you do pinks and purples together as long as you stick to lights to dark?
Roots & Wings Furniture LLC what happens .... I'm trying to envision if dark colors are painted first? 🤷🏻♀️💫🦑 I look forward to peeking on your blog and I'll check out the other videos! ✨🌈🦋 🦄 Thanks for sharing your skills and talents with us! 🌷
I have adresser that is brown but I want it to be gray with black. will I need to sand and prime the dresser first if I don't want the brown to show thru?
I would use one light coat of gray chalk paint. It’s okay to not have a full coverage. Then use the black glaze to your desire then seal with polyacrylic satin finish.
Actually any top coat sealant will do. The idea is that frequent use of furniture, such as a dresser, is that the paint will rub off easily over time; even if you have knobs or handles. If you're using only chalk paint there are top coat sealants out there for that very purpose.
Like she noted up front, 6 of one a 1/2 dozen of the other. You'll either spend time taping or spend time running a razor blade over the mirror, neither of which take long.
Before you start painting, just rub the mirror with a bit of Vaseline. No taping or scraping necessary. When your project is finished, just clean your mirror with a damp rag and the paint comes off super easy and fast!
most pieces i have worked with, i am able to take the mirror off or i have used a sheet of paper between the wood and mirror. when i have painted on the paper, i usually pull the paper out a little until it shows white again or removed the paper completely. the razor scratches mirrors, especially old ones. i tried using painters tape, but it is thick and has left little space unpainted.
Great result but I'd spend a few minutes more on prep taping off and protecting mirror. A razor could scratch the glass but if you insist on using one at least buy a proper glass scraper to protect yourself from nasty cuts.
Buttercup Wow. Did I hit a nerve or what? How many more vulgar replies do you plan on making? Scroll down and maybe you can read the post from a woman in Spain. Maybe. You're no buttercup.
You can use either! If you use chalk paint be sure to seal it first with a water based sealer before adding on a wash. If you use General Finishes Milk Paint you don't have to seal it before adding a wash because it has enough sheen in the finish to allow the layers to be applied on top!
THAT WAS AWESOME! This might be my new favorite painting technique! Such an easy-to-follow video. Thanks!!
I have watched lots of videos on this type of treatment but yours made me have much clearer idea of what is involved, thank you.
You are welcome! This is one of my favorite finishes!!
This is exactly what we are wanting to do. Thank You for the lesson.
Looks great and seemed easy enough
Thank you! Yes, it really is easy!!
Wow, beautiful color !!
Thank you!!
Wow! What a great technique! Thank you for this video.

Very easy technique with great results. Thank you for posting!
You are welcome! Thanks for watching!!
This was great! Super easy instructions and tips on saving money with paint. Thank you!
It's the same concept when apply eyeshadow, start with a light color and build to darker shades and tones. Good job!
yes!! sure is!
Florence Bates Such an interesting analogy!
What a great looking finish! The video was excellent and extremely thorough, thank you for posting it😊
thanks for teaching that, been wanting to make that finish for awhile
This method is the most full-proof for a more professional antique look. There are many videos, here I see, that overly distress furniture making it look as if a child got into the paints and brushes.
That same child however does probably know that the expression is 'fool proof', so maybe we can still learn something from it. ;)

Tip: Don't eat a big meal and lie down.
Wonderful video! Love this, thank you 💕🦋🌸
Another interesting technique
Nice! You can blow dry the paint for faster finishing of the piece that's what I do.
Gorgeous!
That's a very beautiful color
GREAT JOB, GREAT TEACHER!
Thank you so much !
I love this technique! Lovely colours! May I ask what colours you used?
Gorgeous! Thanks for sharing! 💜💙
Love the color.
Thank you! Me too!
It looks gorgeous and expensive. Great job! When my mom did this, she also used a razor blade, lol! It did save time too!
Beautiful project -- turned out great
Great tutorial and finish. Looked real nice, thanks for sharing!
outdoorsadrenaline you are welcome!
I like it but not sure why you do second color as it is lost when you apply the third color?? ...I thought it looked good with just 2 Colors...
Kerrie Shannon Actually, you can still see the other layer of paint. The process of adding a middle layer is to make an illusion of a more 3D look. Even a fine line showing through creates dimension.
Very pretty thanks for sharing.

Magic ❤❤❤❤
AWESOME! Thank you so much for posting this. Does it matter what finish you use? (matte, gloss, satin, etc,)
Looks great...not just the application, but the color is awesome too. Say, do you think this would work on a wall as well? I know you don't have the nooks & crannies, but with lightly wiping down the walls couldn't you get the dimension to a wall? And again, nothing but paint/water was used? TIA
Kman yes that would be awesome!
Can you use white for your 3 rd color to lighten. So light sky blue, dark blue 1/2 water,
White paint 1/2 water.
Lots of fun just reading the comments
Awesome!!! I am going to try this!!!
Nice job. Great tutorial!
I bought some desks and dressers and they are plain white. Can I just go ahead and do a color wash over it or do I need to do something to it first besides clean it?
In your opinion, how would it look to use a yellow as a base color and then maybe a blue or green for the second colors?
love it love it you did an amazing job!
Fabiola Galindo thank you!
Someone please answer. Why aren’t you sanding the piece before you paint? I’m always sanding everything. What do I need to know? Thank you for all the awesome ideas!
I would have to trio stain - the wood is beautiful -
Your paint process is very well done - it's just some pieces have beautiful wood...
After you do the color wash do you seal the piece with a lacquer or clear coat?
Thanks for informative videos.
Yes, usually a water based top coat. My favorite is General Finishes High Performance top coat in Flat.
Thank you! Very helpful
Thank you for watching!
What kind of paint did you use?
I'm going to try this
Love it good job would I be able to do this with a small area floors and them put a varnish on it
Pierrette Rainville yes, I don't see why not!
This is awesome, definitely doing this. Question, why did you do the second layer, if you could do the darkest right after first layer?
Lifebee LifeBee I just added an extra layer for interest. I've only done two before (skipping to the darkest) and it turns out great! my very favorite is here, www.rootsandwingsfurniture.com/blog/tealcolorwash
I think by adding different color it gives a different/textured look that’s a different affect.
Beautiful!
On the second and third coats, what is the ratio of water to paint did you use to dilute the paint?
I only used a tablespoon or two in about a half cup of paint. You just want it a bit more watery than usual.
What are the names of the colors. Is it chalk paint?
Lovely.
thumbs up ! i really like the combination of colors
Can you use different colors as in instead of only doing different shades of the same color could you do pinks and purples together as long as you stick to lights to dark?
Kristina Barton Absolutely! Just test it first on scrap wood to make sure it blends the way you are envisioning.
what a beautiful finish! can i achieve the same look on wood thats been primed ?
yezombi yes! you may not get any distressing down to the wood, but the paint finish you can definitely achieve!
thanks so much for responding can't wait to try your technique
Hi, what's the mark on the painting?Does it exist in Spain? thanks
what a great video!! thank you!!!

Thanks for sharing your skills and talents with us! 🌷
Gina Haffie check out the driftwood tutorial, that starts darker and kind of gets lighter with a few different colors.
Do you have to use milk paint ? What are other options? Stuff I can get at Walmart
Latex paint would also work for this method!
Great video. Thanks for sharing!
What colours u used?
Oil colours or acrylic ?
This was General Finishes Milk Paint - acrylic water based paint. The colors were Corinth Blue and Coastal Blue!
The sound of scrapping the paint off that mirror went straight through me
Gaia Calls I hear ya! It did me too but I completely agree it's easier. I put on noise canceling head phones. Lol! 😁
HA!!!
I had to mute it - that sound made my skin crawl.
I knew when she said we'll just paint on the mirror, a razor would be involved. Grated on my nerves.
What type of paint is used?
what paints are you using
If im doing a coffee table can i use a sponge instead of paper towels
With the sponge is another technique , is not a wash
Great Video. Thank you.

Beautiful! What kind of paint did you use for the initial blue. Was it acrylic, or water based?
I didn't see an answer so I will...she used General Finishes Milk Paint.
Terri Juanette but what color?
fantastic color. what color is it?
what color base u used?
What type of paint was used for mirror
General Finishes Milk Paint, complete supply list here: a.co/bnsH3X4
Love it 💘
I love it
Did you have to wax or seal the paint? The first blue was chalk paint, right?
sharon a no wax, you can seal it with a topcoat (I recommend General Finishes High Performance Topcoat) if you need extra durability.
sharon a not chalk paint, this is all General Finishes Milk Paint
Great; thanks!!
what paint brand did you use again? (for the bulk of the painting)
Sherrie Martin General Finishes Milk Paint
Great video!
Thanx
Great video but the background music is so distracting and unnecessary
Tip: Painter's tape on the mirror will keep the paint off and save a lot of time.
Like she noted up front, 6 of one a 1/2 dozen of the other. You'll either spend time taping or spend time running a razor blade over the mirror, neither of which take long.

Annette Lol Who wants to clean Vaseline off their mirror ..Sticky mess ..When you can get the paint off the mirror easily...

hermoso hermoso quisiera saber los colors nombres en español grasias..
La pintura es por General Finishes y puede comprarlo en la tienda Rockler Woodworking and Hardware.
Buttercup Why don't you speak Gaelic? That's a ridiculous statement. NOT EVERYONE WHO WATCHES THESE VIDEOS ARE LIVING IN AN ENGLISH SPEAKING COUNTRY!
Buttercup Wow. Did I hit a nerve or what? How many more vulgar replies do you plan on making? Scroll down and maybe you can read the post from a woman in Spain. Maybe. You're no buttercup.
magnoliasouth 803-809-8916 is that your number?
Buttercup No. I'm too grown up for your attitude. Good luck with your life.
Is this like chalk paint
Similar, but with more of a sheen than chalk paint.
@@RootsWingsHome do you have to use chalk or milk paint to do color wash?
You can use either! If you use chalk paint be sure to seal it first with a water based sealer before adding on a wash. If you use General Finishes Milk Paint you don't have to seal it before adding a wash because it has enough sheen in the finish to allow the layers to be applied on top!
Good unintentional ASMR video....
I’m not sure are u using the same color and watering it down
I did not see a finish coat like an acrylic.
On a mirror it's not necessary!
Spray wd40 on a rag and wipe around edge of glass. Be careful to stay away from your paint surface!!
nice job...but but the music is making me dizzy ....so annoying.
Scratches up the glass!
Frog tape works better.
I think it would be smarter to cover the edge of the mirror with masking tape ... I mean ...
S
Of course you need durability. Why bother to paint it if you don't want to keep it for a while
Music is annoying
Great video
Thank you!
Thank you for watching!!
