  • This video provides instructions and an overview of a PLOW POINT shelter, created from an AquaQuest Guide 10 x 10 (Square) tarp. This tarp pitch is BEGINNER LEVEL but yields PRO RESULTS, and is an ideal configuration for unpredictable Spring weather!
Using a 10' x 10' tarp (as shown), you will create an airy, open shelter that still provides great rain and wind protection... if set up in the right orientation! Learn how to position and pitch this shelter so it provides you with the optimal indoor and outdoor liveability for your next backwoods overnighter.
Complete step-by-step instructions guide you through the set-up process. Watch this video a couple of times, and then try it yourself! After a few reps you'll discover how intuitive the process becomes, and you'll be inspired to take this pitch to the backcountry, and maybe seek out a few more pitch tutorials to help with your bushcraft mastery!
The video features our AquaQuest Guide Square Tarp (10' x 10' or 3 m x 3 m) in Forester Green:

This model is our lightweight tarp, which uses 40D nylon fabric with silicone and PU coatings to create a high-performing waterproof rating of 5000mm. It's a great choice for thru-hikers, fastpackers and backpackers who want a portable and versatile shelter system that doesn't need to be babied in the backwoods... this tarp is tough and will perform better and longer than lighter-denier options. Skimping on shelter is not the best place to save grams!
AquaQuest also makes 3 other models of tarp, and offers 5 different sizes: Whether you're gearing up for a nimble solo thru-hike, or need a burly backcountry basecamp for you and your buddies, we've got your brand of adventure covered! Note that AQ products are backed by our limited lifetime warranty and no-quibble return policy.
AquaQuest, established in 1994, is the brand that is WATER PROVEN, and with our waterproof tarps, bivies and shelters, you need FEAR NO FORECAST.

    Good video! Thank you.
I like what you said about “it depends on your comfort level”. 10x10… just me. 20x20… just me! 😂

I have the 15x15 safari. Love it for living space on canoe trips. Also have 10,20, and 30 liter dry bags. Next I'm thinking about the 10x10 guide for backpacking. Excellent products!

I pitch these a lot lower / shallower and tie off the center to an opposing tree to get some additional headroom inside. It's the only backpacking shelter I use. Two trees, two lines, and some pegs. There is nothing faster to setup that provides the same wind an rain coverage.

Agreed... when pitched low this setup is very effective and quite stealthy. Nice that you have the option to raise or lower that front peak according to weather and temperature conditions.

In areas where open fires aren't allowed, what can you do against bugs ? This one offers no protection but are there tarp configurations that could help ?

Hi! There are certainly more closed configurations such as this Pyramid pitch • ruclips.net/video/y6sBmEcouV4/видео.html • that would better keep insects out, but a pitch that seals up really tight also has the prospect of creating a more humid interior environment (perhaps with condensation issues) in certain circumstances. You can also look into mesh inserts, screens or bivies you can use in conjunction with a tarp, or use PPE such as headnets and bug repellant. Thanks!
