Great book and energy! One thing that hasn't been said so far is the great dynamic control. Lots of contrast throughout and very even flow from forte to pianissimo, etc... Center snare: doesn't look like he should, or has to, care about the fact you think he is over the top. Go bro go!
The best part about BK's percussion writing is how well it complements the hornline, but shines dynamically. I've said for a while now that BK's writing is all about dynamic control and texture.
Man, I love the basses at 4:18! When you hear basslines split hand to hands... that's cool right?! But when you make them crescendo and have musicality, that's what separates a mediocre drumline to a world class drumline! Great season Blue Knights!!
I have an11" table, that I listen to All the drum, and bugle corps on, just about 7/24.I love to hear you all, since I can't get out to see you all any more.U tube is where I get you all.I just wish the music was a bit louder, the sound isn't very loud on a table.thank you for coming in to my home.it sure does take the stress out of my home.
With the rate the Blue Knights is going, I think they're surely going to be a force to reckon with sometime in the future. BTW, this doesn't look or sound like a 9th place drumline. It sounds like they should have scored higher. But, anyway, I don't put much faith in judges anyway. I don't know why people still do.
Yeah, their pit was phenomenal all year, but had a rough go at finals. I think that's what dragged (pun on the amount of ruffs BK plays very much intended) them down.
@@droobers1314 second time through was cleaner but for a pretty simplistic book I heard some ticks in there. Albeit I probably marched with their caption head or one of their instructors. We 93VK guys are everywhere. Float taught a lot of great instructors.
Yea. This was by far my favorite book of the season. Just wasn't clean enough on the move, I guess. There were SO many solid lines this year. I would've hated to be a drum judge at finals.
The field judges acknowledge the pit, the battery just gives the the bigger ruin for their money. It dies but me when people say a corps won "drums" when that caption doesn't exist. The pit should get more focus publicity-wise.
+Paul Kim there's also such a thing as attracting the wrong kind of attention while on the field and distracting the audience/judges from what they should be paying attention to
I don't think your problem is with the center, it's with the line's style. The writing by itself speaks to how expressive they are as a group. Some people like that, some don't; but either way it's extremely impressive in its own respect.
BK drums don't do a lot of stuff that makes my jaw drop the way it would with, say SCV. What they do is make me say "Dude, that was neat" or "cool". I like that. I hope my friend enjoys her time there in 2017.
I'm really impressed with how much better the drumlines have progressed over the years musically. HOWEVER...........There is NO individuality between the corps anymore. They all do the same moves, same bends, same flashes, and even clicking the rim at the end of playing. I admit the music had gotten better. I just wish you could tell them apart when they're out of uniform. Because they all look exactly the same.
Mad Minute idk, I can definitely pick out writing styles. Technique wise, line to line is pretty different too. I guess it depends on exactly what it is you're looking at. I can kind of understand what you're talking about though. The thing is now a days people are marching multiple lines per year with indoor growing in popularity, so they're getting multiple types of education a year. And you also have techs and staffs going around the activity, bringing certain traits with them along the way. Things do start to meld together the longer that happens. I'm still super pumped about the activity as a whole though. The level of playing and design has continued to improve year after year.
Justin Plante I get what you're saying. Them working with each other throughout the winter lines is a big part of it. It used to be very very different. If you saw SCV in 90, 91, you knew it was them out of uniform. As with PHANTOM, B Devils, etc.... And I'm sure it's difficult to change completely. But, just the technique was so much different back then. Phantom slurred their rolls, Cavs played real high and tight. I don't want to come off like I don't respect, because I do. But I've noticed that I'm not the only one that has seen the cookie cutter process take over a bit. Take care
Lots of body and good energy but I agree with the dynamics and playing loud all the time. These guys are not even close to the playing level of higher drum lines in DCI.
Damn it’s crazy to think that these guys play at a high level with other top drum lines of DCI and you’re too idiotic to see that. They were a top 10 Drumline and this book is nuts. They executed with passion and precision, and even worked with crazy dynamic changes. You’re blind if you don’t see that.
Yeah there’s no way a high school line could play this nuts book anywhere close to this clean. But sure dumbass, criticize a group you couldn’t even play with.
The Real Drumlines' can't be immatated. These young people do okay for them nit be taught about why Drumlines are so very important to HBCU and many other African American and Black Schools. This is Not a True DrumLine!!! However because they are young children trying to learn about Drums and what makes the sound so different and Very Excellent with African-Americans...And Black People" they must understand you must be born with it.
It's just a different style than what those guys do and what these guys do. The intensity and physical and mental aspect are totally different. This is a "real" drumline and so are they.
I don't like it when people compare show bands/drum lines to corps style bands and drum lines. The two can't be compared because they both have different purposes for performing. I have friends that constantly hate on HBCU bands' brass lines because they "don't focus on good tone production or on absolute cleanliness". But the point of the bands is to solely entertain the audience. And every time I see the Southern University marching band play, I absolutely love it because they make me feel what they're feeling. The same can be said for corps style groups as well. The amount of emotion they put into what they play is absolutely amazing and I love watching it. But you can't go into a drum corps setting and expect them to perform like an HBCU band and you can't go to an HBCU setting and expect them to sound like a drum corps. They are two sides of the same coin. Both serve the purpose of entertaining, but they do it in different ways.
0:38 the whole line owes me a punch after finessing me with that 👌....
SMH blue knights started the trend a year and a half early than everyone else
Great book and energy! One thing that hasn't been said so far is the great dynamic control. Lots of contrast throughout and very even flow from forte to pianissimo, etc... Center snare: doesn't look like he should, or has to, care about the fact you think he is over the top. Go bro go!

Noah Lustig They have some of the most creative writing in the game. So creative to the point that they have created they're own style and sound.

Next year, backflips.
damn, very entertaining and good. i actually appreciate the level of performance from the center snare and the entire line
ldmb1966 who is the center snare?
Tyler Doan. He's been at BK since 2014

Blue Knights 2016 drumline but every time they play a polyrhythm, it's played 5 times.
Love those drags starting at 0:35 of this clip!!! That's something new and different!!!
The first 12 seconds describe the who he energy of the show. Mean, aggressive, pasaonite, focus, and all of the above
I love how the fifth bass sounds in the beginning

Strange show this year but solid book. Sick
thats the best part is that it's so damn strange honetstly, i fell in love with the show honestly
I guess the way to earn a spot in this line is to rock out the hardest
Lol, in a way :)
While playing well*

this sadly didn't age as well as it could of
Kinda bothers me when people don't recognize basses. I play quads/tenor myself but I can always appreciate good bass.
Sweet ruffs
Bwahaha!!!! But they were dirty...!

Most exciting book of all time.
Just here for my weekly viewing!
This era of BK hella underappreciated
yeah they were definitely ahead of their time
The hype is so real!
Great writing! I didn't want this video to end :)
Surprisingly great dynamic control
The ending is so massive
Shout to all the "judges" in the comments thinking they could be any better lol.
Such an aggressive book this year
It sucks that they got 9th in drums at finals.
Did they really? Damn
Yea. This was by far my favorite book of the season. Just wasn't clean enough on the move, I guess. There were SO many solid lines this year. I would've hated to be a drum judge at finals.
+tommy2122108 no they didnt? Blue Knights finished 7th behind Cadets this year. 6th last year
That is correct. Not necessarily a lower class corps, @uasuka.
Alex Neagu Got it.
I want to see this but every time they do a crescendo roll it speeds up.

hey our drumline uses these drums now

Why is 7:14 the ONE thing in DCI 2016 that has never failed to give me goosebumps?
This is awesome
Great video
People alweays forget the Pit... Can we have an extra Backfield only Judge? ;)
The field judges acknowledge the pit, the battery just gives the the bigger ruin for their money. It dies but me when people say a corps won "drums" when that caption doesn't exist. The pit should get more focus publicity-wise.
Sad that 2 years later we are getting the opposite and there aren't on field judges anymore ;_;

all about them drags
BK snares always sounded the best under MJ n co.
Am in the drum line it's part of there notes that's why they play loud sometimes it sounds like a earthquake lol

Geneva D I think he ages out in 2018
Where did he march 2017 then? I haven't seen him in recent dci videos.
I think he took last season off. I've heard from a friend that he was back at BK auditions for this upcoming season.
Alright, thanks for letting me know. Excited for this season!
