One of the fun parts of slowbeef's Let's Play of Revenge of Shinobi was the running bit where he got a message from Sega's legal team to insist something wasn't what it looked like - except Spider-Man who was indeed Spider-Man (but not in all revisions, iirc?).
Or maybe Spider-Man was trying to stop the syndicate himself. Joe Musashi (Shinobi protagonist) was just in his way :P

Thankfully, Sega now chooses the far safer decision of making parody characters instead of unofficial cameos, such as Miracle Johnson and Steven Spining in Yakuza 0 (no prizes for guessing who they're meant to be parodies of)
TBF though, Miracle Johnson would've been actual Michael Jackson if MJ hadn't passed. They were always tight with him.

I couldn’t stop laughing at the comedic timing of 14:55 cause the scissor guy just gets laid out. In fact, this entire video was just too funny, idk how, but this channel always manages to bring a smile on my face!
I'm surprised you guys brought up King of Fighters and DIDN'T mention K9999, who was just straight-up Tetsuo from Akira with a different color scheme, even his move names were just quotes from Akira.

Maybe because they, as SNK had to replace K9999 with a different character that was called Nameless when remaking games in which K9999 was playable, retconning the story to erase K9999 and removing him from promotional art and the official web-site
@@Blacklight.2025 They didn't completely retcon him, he returns in kof XV, albeit under a different name. Plus the whole "legal action" reason for them removing the character was recently admitted to be a lie by the SNK community manager, so yes, SNK did actually get away with it.

@@Blacklight.2025 It's the exact same character, he may have a different name, but another character literally calls him "K9999" in his arcade mode ending, it's implied his new name is an alias.

As soon as I clicked on this, I was expecting Spider-Man. I didn't know about the other cameos in Revenge of Shinobi, though!
Depending on which version you played not all of them appeared. Batman got replaced with a monster that was allegedly based on Devilman, Godzila got replaced with a robot dragon-skeleton and Rambo got a haircut.

Another unauthorized cameo came from the original Super Famicom Clock Tower game as the main character was essentially just Jennifer Connolly, especially based off of her appearance in the film "Phenomena."
Yikes Mike, that Luigi Mario cameo was a pretty big risk knowing how Nintendo treats their ips

I had this crazy flashback realization: I'd already known, at some point in the distant past, that the character's name is Bub. If you'd asked me yesterday, I'd have come up with nothing… but I guess once upon a time, I did actually know that.
Now a sane company, realizing that it might not be a good idea to have an unlicensed Mike Tyson clone with just one sound in his name slightly changed to give him cover, would simply just change his bloody name. Not Capcom though, realizing that would be an amateur play, they instead made a three-way name shuffle out of it that not only kept the offending name but also, to this day, results in the afflicted characters having to be referred to as "Boxer", "Claw", and "Dictator" in the competitive scene where they have one name in some parts of the world and the name of a totally different character in others.
Revenge of Shinobi gave me MAD nostalgia. My parents eventually banned me from playing it because I’d get so worked up it gave me nosebleeds 😂
It would be amazing if the next few videos actually just had Jane in various cheap wedding dresses with no explanation

There are NPCs based on all the OX presenters in Hitman 2.
...you know, Akuma being based on Dame Judi Dench makes an alarming amount of sense
If SF ever hakes a female Akuma, I'd legitimately want it to be based on Judy Dench. The only version of Q that has the (metaphorical) balls to put James Bond in his place deserves her own Raging Demon.
@@TheBlackSeraph I hate to have correct this as someone who dislikes the _James Bond_ franchise for various reasons, but you mean M, not Q. Which is good since the _Street Fighter_ series already has a character named Q anyway, and that would just get confusing.

Can't believe we got an unlicensed Larry Bundy reference in the video.
This video mentions Dynamite Dux, but Guru Larry also pointed out that Dynamite Dux also had a hidden "dirty" intro with nudity and lingerie.
It wasn't only the Japanese version of The Revenge of Shinobi that had Spiderman turn into Batman. I had the original US release, which featured the same behavior.
I remember there being a blue hedgehog enemy is Yoshi's Island, which I always thought was a nod to sonic.
2:00 Jane, this channel had already covered Rad Mobile being the first appearance of Sonic the Hedgehog (as the rear view mirror ornament) which came out in japan half a year before Quik and Silva and 2 months before in the EU.
I still own Shinobi for Megadrive today and even yet the Cameos still make me chuckle.
In the Mortal Kombat series of fighting games one of the game's characters Johnny Cage is based off of Jean Claude Van Damme the story is that Mortal Kombat was originally supposed to be a video game adaptation of Bloodsport one of his films.

Fun fact: Street Fighter 2 was not the first Street Fighter to make a character based on Mike Tyson. In Street Fighter, one of the characters you fight a character named Mike that looks suspiciously like Mike Tyson in a Red Tank Top and blue jeans. The funniest part the are both canonically two separate characters in the games so in Japan there are two Mike Tysons fighting in tournaments at the same time. I wonder if they ever matched against each other. Capcom for Street Fighter 6, Mike vs Balrog, the fans need this! We need to know who is the one true Mike!

When I saw King of Fighters, I got it confused with SNK's Art of Fighting, which parodied Ryu/Ken with a guy named Ryo, and Capcom parodied him with Dan Hibiki. Dunno if that counts as "getting away with it". Or even "cameo" if it's a parody. But it's where my brain went.
My internet bugged on the opening screen so I just had Mike staring at me judgingly for about 20 seconds, and I just accepted it as part of the video

I'm surprised that they mentioned the Guile statue and not the other, more famous bit of Capcom and SNK aping each other's characters, Ryo Sakazaki and Dan Hibiki.
SNK created Ryo, who is a clear rip-off of both Ryu and Ken. Instead of getting mad, however, they got even, creating Dan Hibiki, who is comparatively pathetic in his storyline.
I'm not sure if developer jabs at each other count. In Duke Nukem 3D, you can find the dead body of the Doom Marine from Doom(1993) and Duke remarks "that is one doomed space marine". Duke can also encounter the dead body of Luke Skywalker in an ice cave where Duke says "now this is a force to be reckoned with".
Duke ain't afraid of no quake. The Halo jab in DNF was less subtle. And I'm still amazed that there could be jabs that were less subtle than those.
I'm just surprised Larry Bundy didn't become a Guest appearance or said something.

One of my favorite cameos is in the introvideo to Railroad Tycoon 3. Where you can briefly see a poster with El Presidente on it and the caption "Holiday in the tropics" :D

Lol, you made me remember, back in the late 90's I worked for Peter Piper Pizza. After a shift, I would usually grab the spare game keys,
and open the cabinets of games I wanted to play and just load free credits on the game, just as long as the " strict" manager wasn't there.
We got Cruis'n USA in the arcade one day. After I beat it and told my coworkers that Bill Clinton is sitting in a hot tub with bikini babes at the end. No one believed me lol. So over the next couple weeks whenever I beat it, different coworkers would ask me to call them from the back so they could see the ending.

I'm a tad disappointed that, in an episode about cameos done by a channel based in the UK that references a cameo discussed in a Guru Larry video, we didn't even get an (authorized) "BUT, 'ELLO YOU" reference.
I'm not sure if it counts but in Final Fantasy 1, there is a tombstone in Elfheim that depending on the version you are playing, will say "Here lies Erdrick" referring to the hero of Dragon Quest III, by Enix or "Here lies Link" referring to the hero of the Legend of Zelda series by Nintendo.
Unironically should of included the fact that the fighting game Garou: Mark of the Wolves pretty much used the Robert Miles song Children as the theme song for the main poster boy of the game. Awesome game and an awesome song.

A fun fact about Dynamite Dux. This arcade game, particularly the main hero, Bin the duck, was the inspiration for the Sonic character, Bean the Dynamite from the arcade spin-off, Sonic the Fighters. However, Bean is a woodpecker.
