@@watchyourstyle I don’t ever see myself spending the money required to purchase a luxury watch, but if I were to do so, I believe the Rolex Explorer would be at or near the top of my list. The only pertinent question would be between the 36mm and 39mm Explorer. I have a similar wrist size to you (6.6 in), and I wonder if the 36mm might look even more proportional. Of course, I’d be looking to you to determine because, again, *I’m* not buying one 😉😁
I'm buying my 1st rolex next month. I'm crossing a milestone in my life. I will be be purchasing the 214270 from an AD nearest to me. I know I can afford a GMT or Submariner or Cellini. But those aren't my style. I'm a blue collar guy that got inspired by Sir Edmund Hillary. I met him & got to shake his hand when I was 13 years old in 1974. He came to the school I was attending back then & put on a slide presentation for us & a q&a. We were considered lower-income, but I didn't even know there was such a thing. Now, I think of how truly fortunate I was to even have hsd the chance to see him in person. Sir Hillary had a tremendous presence, plus he was a talk man. His was the 1st British accent I'd ever heard live. I have clippings from when the story of his death was written in newspapers. So, the Rolex Explorer holds a lot of meaning for me. If it cost double or triple the price it is now I would still pay it. This watch will be passed down to my son to pass down to his son or daughter along with the story of their grand dad meeting Sir Edmund Hillary.
Michael, that is an incredible story. That’s so cool that you got to meet Sir Edmund Hillary himself! The Explorer is one of the humblest, most stripped down, purest designs in the entire Rolex catalogue. You will absolutely love it. Congrats in advance on your Rolex Explorer. Thank you for tuning in Michael... talk to you soon. Cheers 🥂
Hi Christian! Thanks for tuning in. If you have an existing relationship with an AD I would start there. Otherwise I would encourage getting on a waitlist and/or starting to build a relationship with an AD. Or go pre-owned if it’s not too much of a premium. Just my two cents as I am not too keen on paying over retail in the grey market, since you don’t even get a factory warranty. Hope this helps!
Nice Explorer!!! Congrats, looks like a keeper. Like you mentioned a few rumors going around that the Explorer 39mm might get a more refined case design. Something that wears more like a 39mm than a 40/41mm. Probably a smaller bezel and a slight change in the dial proportions, maybe a bracelet size increase. The other rumor is that it might get a size increase to 41mm. However, if this happens it will be on the 41mm Oyster Perpetual case. Which wears more like a true 39mm. I can tell you first hand the new OP wears smaller than it's size. This is good news because Rolex hit the OP out of the park. That watch doesn't look any different from the discontinued 39mm. What makes the 39mm Explorer wear big is the bezel. It almost looks like it's too big for the case. I think most brands have a difficult time balancing out a 39mm size watch. It's too close to a standard 40mm, yet it's just large enough not to fall on the small side. Other than that, the 39mm hits a sweet spot on the wrist for many guys. It's just a straight up modern Explorer, but this reference does pop more than the 36mm. The watch is noticeable, but it still doesn't scream Rolex at a glance. Also for sure... look out for a new Explorer II for the 50th anniversary. New ceramic bezel? Either the white or black dial discontinued? New movement? Maybe a size increase although many doubt that.
Thank you so much! That’s an interesting thought, it would be cool to see a more refined case on the explorer. That would go along with the shrinking trend of the sub too. I’ve also heard that Rolex won’t do the 41 bump due to that being OP territory now. The Explorer II would look fantastic with a ceramic bezel! Would love to see that execution. Thanks so much for tuning in~ talk to you soon. Cheers 🥂
@@unnamedhero5111 We are all betting for that (new Explorer II). It would be nice to see a 40.5mm maxi dial. The question is...what will be discontinued? White or black dial? If they up the size on the Explorer I. It won't be as popular, it won't be worth the effort to get one at 40/41mm. Most Rolex fans want a 36-38mm Explorer I. That watch should not be messed with or changed other than the movement. It's the most honest straight forward simple watch Rolex makes that flies under the radar. It doesn't seek attention. I hope now that Rolex entire product lines are updated. They will move forward and start supplying the demand putting an end to this shortage.
Got mine a couple months ago. Waited at least 6 months. It will be interesting to see if it be phase out given that the OP 39 is now either at 36 or 41 mm. Think the trend is towards bigger watches. I been noticing that women's watches are getting bigger. If the explorer 1 comes with a white dial or blue dial, I surely would get another. Cheers.
Congrats on your explorer! Yes I’m curious to see the direction they take with the next gen explorer. My theory is that they will keep it at 39 to keep the watch distinct from the op which has moved to 41. New dial color variations would be interesting and I think probably inevitable. I still prefer the classic black though 😈 Cheers and thanks for watching!
Congratulations man! One question form my side as I’m planning to get one. I have 6.7 inch 17 cm I usually wear 40-42 watches . I wonder if explorer will wear small to my rest or it wears bigger than it’s 39 size. Thanks for your support
Thank you so much! I think the watch would fit you great. My wrist is about 6.5” and it fits amazing. The case “wingspan” of 47.4mm so it wears more like a 40mm watch - definitely a good fit!
We got the same watch, I am loving it as well. I was wondering if you were offered the white protective sleeve that covers the outer box, I didn't receive mine and after watching other unboxing videos I am wondering if I should ask for it or not.
@@ivankerr3570 hey there :) I received the cream cardboard box with the Rolex crown logo and the green box, but not the white cardboard sleeve which upon researching a bit is just used to protect the box when shipping occurs.

Great video 👌🏼 Congrats 🎉😍 I’m curious to know when you un screw the crown and put it into the position where you can change the time, does the crown wiggles a bit causing “not so accurate” time setting ? In other words ; when you set the time, will moving the crown ever so slightly will cause the minutes hand to wiggle causing a “not so accurate” time setting ? (A very slight play in the in the minutes hand when you wiggle the crown very slightly) Mine does specially after setting the time and screw the crown back in, when I shake the watch, the minutes hands will move “ever so slightly” but the time keeping is perfect.. Anyway hope you enjoy yours. Cheers 👍🏼
@@watchyourstyle Thanks a lot for your reply👍🏼, yeah I was referring to the tiny bit of resistance aspect after setting the time which might not lead to perfectly align the time.. anyway it seems a normal behavior of this particular movement, as this movement is only used on this Explorer, the discontinued OP 39 and the Cellini models ✌🏼 take care and stay safe 🚀 congrats again on the lovely piece 😍
I think they will keep the 39mm size too. They will move word Explorer back to the top, update movement and release a white and a blue dial. They deliberately skipped 39mm in new OP collection.
@@watchyourstyle not sure, probably not. Rolex do not like to reinvent the wheel and like to use parts have already made for other watches. It is possible though, a bit like they did for the DJ2 to DJ41. Although the ratio of bezel to dial has rarely come up as an issue, so might be safer for Rolex to leave as is. They will change a couple of little things for the sake of changing it though and that could well be one. All guess work though as nobody really knows what they are up to until the last hour. I wonder if they will bring back a 36, offer a 36 and a 39 after the popularity of the 36mm OP? That Exp1 is a watch bought more by collectors than the average buyer, so they cannot take things too far. They could push 39 to 41 to try attract one watch only buyers - and bring back 36mm for collectors. Those cases are ready being made for the OP, and the conicle bezel is already being manufactured for the DJ - so that could be a move. They are trying to modularise as much as possible of late to maximise profits. That would fit with that methodology and speed up manufacture.
