Back in March 2023, I was put on a PIP for the very first time. I had no idea what it was back then. I was very distraught but I was determined to do better in my job. Unfortunately I still lost the job a month later and I've been out of a job every since. The job market is horrible right now unfortunately.

The truth is, when someone is put on PIP, can start looking for another job liao, it's just a formality before being asked to leave.

not sure why is PIP even a thing, i would just find another job, be brave and venture outside, dont be too loyal to a company

@@Callsign-Blade_RunnerSG how do u know i dont have other commitments? this is a classic example of finding excuse to be a coward, no offense, not gonna argue with u, when its time to go its time to go, or u can just stay slaved in your company, be a coward

      Notwithstanding those reasons I’ve stated,
On the contrary however, I believe Cowards are those that took the easy way out like simply leaving. It takes courage to stay on the job especially after being served a PIP. It’s called being RESILIENT.

@@Callsign-Blade_RunnerSGthe harsh reality is that staying on is not the right decision, resilience or not.
It’s permanently on your file. If the company grows, you won’t.
When promotions come around, it will end that opportunity more often than nots
It’s a career death sentence at the company, so leave. You gain nothing by staying.

I was put on a PIP after 2 months on the job fresh out of school. Fought my way back to a promotion within 2 years and work my way up tirelessly for the 1st 5 years. PIP is not the end, work smart work hard and be open and kind.

I think when you are in a PIP the trust factor is already gone. Its better to prepare for the worst and move on

In my ex employer my boss and team lead would give PIP to people they doesn't like without justification and keep on extend so that they can 'force' them resign on their own accord and save on some severance payment for retrenchment.

PIP is just a polite way asking you to leave the job; probably they found that you are highly paid for the job compare to your peers or maybe you were not aligned to the organization unfavourable goals.

i just received an announcement from my co that they are adopting a "bell curve" performance grading. Meaning there will always be someone who will be graded as "poor performing" even if u are an average employee (meeting daily tasks. achieving mean kpi). Good performers are graded as people who are able to show leadership, while "poor performers" will then be placed on PIP and their bonus will be cut. How is this fair to certain functions/departments where your field of work is strictly operational?

In the United States, many people that are placed on PIP, make allegations that they are being discriminated and threaten the company with a law suit. This often times extends their employment till the litigation is resolved or they get a settlement if terminated.

It’s a way for companies to refresh their staff line up. Bottom 10% removed then over time, hire new bloods hopefully are good performers . Over time, staff line up levels up! It’s cruel but that’s survival of the fittest. Having said that, not all companies are like that .

Way to demotivate any employee by putting them on PIP .. it needs to go. PIP feels like getting a failing grade rather than something to encourage employees to do better.

It depending on who carry out. But it’s actually important to feedback individuals incapable of performing, and guide them accordingly.
Some might feel humiliated, anxiety which make it even worse. Just get to know that in reality no everyone suits the work. A msg and effort could really help if someone want to thrive in that industry.
