I find a lot of low elo mercy players (esp. when they are solo) actually do the opposite mistake: not enabling the dps at all and sitting on the tanks for 95% of the game
@@Slival_ Agreed, not only does not prioritizing a certain teammate harm them due to the lack of stable heals, but also this harms the other heals because by constantly keeping everyone up at every chance they get, the mercy does not allow the other heals to gain ult charge.
i will say, in their defense, they may be getting next to no value by attempting to enable a dps. in low elos, some dps cant kill a single thing even with a pocket so you're better off keeping the tanks alive. (although in this scenario id just swap off mercy)
@@davidc. oh yeah most mercy players in low elos have no idea that they're not supposed to be healing tanks when they have an Ana as their co-support unless the Ana is just not healing the tanks for whatever reason. makes it really hard to build nano when Mercy is hogging up the heals even if she has Valk already
@@neon8406 The only issue with that is that most likely if you end up only having tanks to focus, then your timing/positioning was off when deciding to ult in the first place. Blade is supposed to at the very least drag out a lot of resources from the enemy team - either kills, counter ultimates, or very important space on the map. You use it to manipulate the enemy team because you know they can't afford to neglect you when you use your blade.
Pharmercy's greatest strength isn't increased Pharah damage- it's higher uptime for the Mercy, because GA jumps to Pharah are a huge buff to her evasion and offer a birds eye view of the fight. It's like having constant Valk, only without the extra beams.
I love this one! I would be interested in 1 tip for every hero on your team. Like "if you have a mei on your team, play someone who can easily take advantage of a frozen hero. More reaper or rein, less ball or sombra"
i mean hacking a frozen main tank that isnt dying anyway can give big value anyway because sure, they arent outright dying, but that keeps their shield down longer giving u the time to finish them off or pick off their vulnerable team
The thing is when I saw this video I immediately thought For bastion, the biggest mistake is playing him I thought of that before I pressed the video The worst part is I’m a bastion one trick
With Sigma shield, the nice thing about his barrier is that you can recall it while you're doing *anything* whether that's a rock or using your suck ability or even ulting!
Another genji mistake is dashing to get to high ground when you can just clime only dash to high ground to escape I see tons of people dashing and then not able to confirmed a easy kill because they waste dash ( I worded this wrong before but this should clear things up I mean just don't waste dashing up for no reason save it you will see you get more kills )
Situational. If the pace of your game is very high, then you sometimes need to use dash for high ground (or simply as movement in general). Being locked to only using it offensively (or as an escape after having been in an offensive situation) is very limiting on genji's effectiveness potential. For most ranks in plat and below you can just wall climb 9/10 times, but in higher ranks that will both be too predictable and way too slow in most fights, thus you only really climb walls in downtime or when there isn't any hard engage going on.
@@kcdragon2222 Yea if you're simply talking about not wasting Dash when you could be in need of it within a short timeframe then yea totally on point. Still though, dashing as movement in general saves you one key resource which is time. Even in down periods right before a fight you can use dash for mobility to get faster scouting and be able to make a decision in a split-second situation, and just overall increase the pace of your playstyle which can come in very handy at times. Most important is just that you don't waste the cooldown in a team comp situation where your dash is a vital part of your team's potential win condition(s).
The Brig tip also applies to repelling dives- if you swing before you boop, it gives them time to hold forwards and does ~half the knockback; also, the Zen tip applies to Lucio’s ult as well
Very nice tips. A lot of these I am already doing, but the Roadhog, Echo, and Tjorborn were for example completely new to me. I also see myself doing the wrong things with Reaper, Tracer, Widowmaker, and Moira reasonably often, so I need to keep that in mind. Thanks as always for the amazing content and tips, KarQ! Keep up the great work.
Another potentially good tip for bastion is to move frequently. At least, a lot of teams I’ve played on seem to have no idea what to do about him when he doesn’t stay in one spot for more than 10 seconds.
As a junkrat player: Use your traps and mines OFTEN!!! You can either place traps on flank routes, on the path to the objective, or, in some cases, directly on the playload/point. Then adjust accordingly. If you do it before a fight, generally you’ll have it back in time. Oh, and if you can, make your your own team can see the trap, too, so they can follow up. And if you’re planning on sitting in one spot for some time, put a mine at or near your feet! You’ll have 3 mines active instead of 2, and the one you put down can be used for engaging or retreating, letting you use the other two in a pinch without having to wait for the cooldown.
damn karq, did it again. its crazy how i can have a thousand hours and be whatever rank and watch a ton of vods and streamers and still sit here and go "huh! didn't know that" every two seconds. great tips, as usual
I get SO excited when I see a new video from you. I am such a fucking fan!!! The intro, the tips. I say it often to the shitty random teammates I queue up with in bronze comp, “you suck bro, why do you suck? You need to watch some guides like I did. KARQ !! (Yells in mic) he’s on RUclips!!”. 😑 but seriously, I’m a better player because I watch and listen to your guides you make. The community is blessed to have you.
3:08 that ball tip very true and helpful, but not if your healers are too busy trying to heal the ball that is half hp and across the map, rather than healing the team in front of them
Very helpful thanks a lot KarQ! It’s funny to see…all the heroes that I’m good at, I avoid these mistakes naturally. The ones I feel incompetent at, I make these mistakes constantly, because I just don’t understand how to use these heroes. This guide helps me see what I was misunderstanding.
I believe a better tip for Zarya would be no utilizing right click enough, or the right click + melee combo in a grav. Does good burst damage and your enemy goes flying into a predictable arc, letting you track easier.
Two other mistakes I usually see for Mercy’s (and learned the hard way) is: Your ultimate should not be used for a push or just for heals. It should be used if you’re in a tight spot and need to fly away from danger or even assist with damage since you get unlimited ammo and DO NOT REZ IF ITS NOT WORTH IT. You’re better off alive and one character down than two characters down especially one that can heal.
Always love to learn new tricks. This definitely was a helpful video and I’ll be sure to put these to use ASAP. Glad to know that I already do some of these.
I haven’t played this game since freshman year in highschool. I am now going into college. This is the first video or anything overwatch related I’ve watched since then… good to see you hit 100k subs and you seem to be doing just great! Much love
I play on console (PS4/5) with the controller and having difficulty keeping Lucio on the walls while trying to aim with him as well. I know the benefits of wall riding, but struggle to effectively attack and wall ride at the same time. Does anyone have any tips for that?
What I did is that I changed my button assignments. Instead of right bumper, i set Amp It Up to X. And set jump to right bumper. I also switched by left and right trigger assignments so I boop with right trigger, and shoot with left trigger. It takes some time to adjust, but it’s a lot more comfortable.
Adding on to the Lucio one: a massive mistake relating to this is forgetting you can wall ride when you’re healing. A lot of the time people will only move around if they’re speed boosting, but there’s still a lot of mobility to be had when healing that people forget about.
Tip for Zenyatta: If you don't have to charge his balls, Don't! It's much more valuable to just shoot them, ensuring you're actually hitting your target and you can still switch his healing and discord balls as needed. I can't tell you how many times I've won 1v1s over Zens who lose almost instantly because they emergency charge.
He kills most heroes in range within 3sec after seeing them...just hit 'avoid player' on the jackassses who dump all abilities and die. Just as bad as suicidal charging reins jumping winstons.
This video helped so much. Especially the Zen tip. My team all died, and I was the only one left, and right before the enemy killed me I used my transcendence to get out of there to meet up with my team.
3:08 gotta love how AFK used to mean Away From Keyboard, and used to mean actually physically away from the keyboard so you literally weren't there to answer, but now AFK simply means not doing anything.
Im a GM Hammond player and was so proud when this was the tip he shared. I'd also add to the tip: when defending 2nd point on maps like Hanamura, or Temple of Anubis, you can often roll back into spawn for quick HP If you're contesting and have at least a couple teammates alive. It's quick and effective way to stay alive and I win most of my 2CP matches because of my ability to run down the enemies clock.
I havent been playing overwatch too long and usually main tank or support. To find out that I’ve been playing Mercy the correct way (being on all my team and not just pocketing 90% of the time) really makes me feel good about it. My days playing as a runner Medic in TF2 really carried over lol
Bro i pictured myself playing all the heros. I dod all the mistakes excepted lucio and junk, both of the heroes i do well in nowadays. Your vids are on point ! Extra bonus with bap hemlok, this is crazy
I'd say a main problem for new Mercy player is totally forgetting you can actually boost your teammates. Too often, you see Mercy players just healing even if the teammate is at full health or missing 15 HP when there could get more value by boosting them. This is also true for Valk, where they only use it to heal the team when they cannot heal everyone when you can also use it to initiate a fight or help push the objective.
mistake for reigns are, they need to trust their healers, especially if you have mercy, One their sheild breaks they have 500 hp, they neeed to get infront of their teammates, and let their sheild regenerate while mercy heals the reign, instead of hiding behind a wall. since reign is so big majority of the fire will be focused on him.
Am happy that majority of guides from 2 years ago are still valid becuase we recieved no major changes or new additional heroes to shift things around, gotta love this game for the staleness
As a newbie echo main, one thing I always missed is that your ult is not for POTG, it's for your team's sake. You can copy anyone if you think it's going to help, including a ''bait'' when you make all the enemies leave the point so your team can have a chance. Maybe this is easy and I'm just stupid but I think I'm not the only one out there and someone needs this.
I'm a Hamster player and I know where every health is in every map. Just say you're Attacking, say Hanamura, push and straight away start poking the point to catch the enemy off guard then they're torn between holding the archway and stopping you. But don't go back to your team as a Ham as it wastes time. I stay behind enemy lines getting health packs there and pushing the enemy CONSISTENTLY left and right so they don't ever get a foothold. So, your healers have one less person to heal (if you know how to survive on your own) and your whole team can decide when they're ready to push forward. Unfortunately, most teams don't take the initiative when they see you messing up the enemy front line so you have to decide whether you should keep the enemy un-grounded (like tripping an Earth-bender so they have no stability), go back and push WITH your team or change heroes.
Also, as Rein, Sig, or Brig, do your best to never let your shield get fully destroyed unless it's absolutely necessary, because you never know when you need to block an ult or something similar. Those shields aren't as disposable as Winston's or Orisa's.
Mercy players really need to watch this. Can't tell you how many times it happend that I'm Ana and my team dies and the mercy is in the back still pocketing the damn Ash who misses 90% of her shots
Yeah I play mercy here and there in my tanks games and it’s absurd that few mercy players know that mercy’s role is to heal the 2 dps and the healer (and maybe only maybe heal the tank when they’re at the risk of dying), most of them only pocket/only heal tanks
With mercy, another tip is don't forget you can cancel guardian angel and also don't be afraid to use that ult. You get that bad boy quickly so if you need to get a team member up who is in a hard to reach spot, I say go for it.
Which mistake is most common at your rank?

Great tips. Honestly had no idea that Echo's beam can focus down shields when it's cracked.
The amount of effort and dedication in this video is astonishing, thank you.
2:42 Also to bait out cooldowns, this is an especially useful technique as Wreckingball as well
Hello :) love the vids! They really help me to improve :D Btw can you make a 1 tip for every hero for Mercy?
My man still up with the fresh vids. Keep up the good work
I'm a Hamster player and I know where every health is in every map.
I think another common widow mistake is staying in one place. Moment the other team knows where you are, you are instantly reduced in effectiveness.
Its good to know the main mistake for my main (Sigma) is something I've already figured out. Fantastic vid by the way
