Optional pass systems benefit those who know how to work the system at the expense of the casuals who don't know how to abuse it. Lots of similarities here compared to the Disney Fast Pass system. Both situations tanked the experience of the casual base for marginal benefit to the most experienced and knowledgeable customer base.
Also I don't know if you remember but people would make lfg groups, tanks and supports would lock their role and the 2 dps would flex. By doing this, the dps players would both get dps AND get tickets.

@@IrisXen It was always a vague thing as well, because Que times could go faster than expected even without the pass. So the over all feeling was the passes did almost nothing good. Mean while you got a bunch of people who didn't want to play tank or support thrown into your games. DPS Roadhogs as the video mentioned, but also DPS zen or lucio players as well. Now you have players who are just grinding the battle pass with less motivation to be competitive. This competitive element of OW has always been a problem since 'winning' is linked only to whether your team gets the win. Its quite common to get total mismatches in games where one player is going full send tryhard while several other players are in NPC mode. The game would be much better if the primary reward was for individual contribution, but it seems like it would be too much effort for them to design a system capable of actually determining an individual contribution score.
Its just not possible. How can you correctly award some one who 1v3s and gets an elim and dies while their team cleans up the remaining 4. Too much to the game.
Its impossible to make a solo contribution ranked system. Oh you are playing support and barely got heals? You get practically no points it doesn't matter that your team steam rolled them. Oh you are playing tracer and was constantly drawing pressure away from your tank and making space well your damage wasnt high enough so you lose points.

The game currently trying to match as fast as possible over having a balanced match is bullshit. Load into a game already over, get a priority pass to get into a match quicker with even less care put towards the balance.
