- The new Milwaukee M12 FUEL Orbital Detail Sander is one of the best tools I've added to my wood shop in recent months. I use this all the time to sand in small spaces like boxes and trays. This new M12 sander is also great for trim, and other delicate sanding tasks.

only if the m12 battery's lasted longer i have 10 of them and 3 still charge 2 of them lasted 2 months
Don't bother with the Rikon mini sander, they have been out of stock since you posted your video. I ordered one and then a week later they refunded my money because they told me they didn't know when it will be in stock again.
Thank you so much for quoting the Bible!
“Here am I, send me.” made me uproot my family and move to rural Alaska. Totally worth it.
I love how quite, light and fast it is. Super useful for all sorts of small projects
This little detail sander is amazing!! I got one last month for some trim work around the house. Very useful little fella to get in the nooks and crannies!!
Thank you for this review. This sander is perfect for a job I'm finishing. Went out and picked up this tool today. Wow! Just awesome!
Thanks for the review! As a new woodworker and youtuber, I always watch your videos. Still learning but your videos help!
I was lucky to find this kit for $99 on clearance a few weeks ago. Great tool.
NICE!
I picked up last weekend too for $99.99. This is a great little sander!
Thanks to your post I checked a couple of my local Home Depot’s and got the same deal! Thanks!
OMG I wish I could find the kit for that price 😢
$187 without the batt here in Aus. nice get
I bought one based on your recommendation and I gotta say this thing is AWESOME! I plan on leaving it out near my bench because I can see me grabbing this thing all the time. It feels great in the hand, lightweight, balanced, and compact. And I have mainly black and yellow tools.
I just got the Milwaukee Sander, I love it, it works great. Thanks for sharing.
Great video on the Milwaukee Sander!
Well done!
Been using mine in an under stairway pantry, where all the rise and runs need sanding! Perfect tool for the job, and it's worth every penny.
Definitely agree. I used mine the other day on a thin framed shelf I’m making and while I was using it I thought to myself “Wow, this thing is nice!” Very good quality. Thanks Matt for the video!
I have one, and it is a must have for smaller pieces, love mine, worth every penny!
I purchased the sander shortly after your earlier video, as I already had M12 system had to buy the drill and impact driver kit after leaving my M18 set at the other house (we’re moving) found them to be light and enough power for most tasks
Interesting tool. Thank you for sharing. Stay warm, safe, happy and healthy. From Henrico County Virginia
This is a great little sander! Works great for sanding in and around the x braces of the farmhouse tables.
This Milwaukee is on the list of wants for sure and has been since started seeing you use it.
I just picked mine up a HD, took a while to get it, said they are in high demand. Can’t wait to try it.
Thanks for the review.
Great looking tool. I appreciated the verse as well!
Thanks man for your honest review. I always wondered why I should buy this sander when I have a oscillating tool.
Ooooooh! You got me Mighty Matt with those play on words. Really cool tool!
Just bought one! Can't wait to use it!
I regret not pulling the trigger on the Rikon at the Dec 2022 price and the M12 Detailer was too high for me to consider. But last month HD decided to clear these out and my nearby store had these on the clearance shelf for $89 (along with a couple other M12 tool items), so that was a no-brainer for purchase after remembering your fantastic review.
Like you , when it comes to power tools I often have options , however I always reach for my m12 stuff first ...
I Found the Kit on Sale at Home Depot for $99 after the holidays this was definitely a great addition to my Shop!
Love this sander!
I have that sander but haven’t had the opportunity to use it yet. I’m looking forward to that opportunity. 😃
That’s awesome!
I like it! I was wondering what the advantage was over the multitool. I’m glad you explained it.
Glad it was helpful!
Always like your reviews.
Most home depots have this kit for $129 right now! Another great episode buddy! Thanks!
I bought this off your recommendation! Can’t wait to try it out!
Hope you enjoy it!
As soon as I saw this on the Belts and Boxes video of the Milwaukee expo and how it didn't shred the paper to sand on a hard hickory edge, I was looking for its release date for months. I use it almost exclusively for contour sanding. Where I was using a surf prep with a medium pad before, that lad would split pretty soon and the grit would wear off and grind into my pieces, because that sander really isn't made for that. I make a lot of frameless cabinets and the main thing I use this for is softening and blending the sharp edges of the edgebanding. It gets used for so many little quick edge softening tasks because the paper is so robust and doesn't shred like other pads, or make the edge uneven (and also shred) like a random orbit sander
Picked one up today... can't wait to use it. Thanks for the review.
Hope you enjoy it!
@731Woodworks Will do. You along with my father in law have inspired me to work with wood. I am very detailed and I think that has helped me quite a bit in this endeavor. Hopefully one day make a business out of it like you. Thanks again.
The 731 Woodworks guy is top 10 person on the internet. Fantastic in so many ways!
I can see where this would be a very useful tool to have, and since I already have the drill and driver set, I could just purchase the tool itself. Great video
I just got one. Its actually my first milwaukee tool
Great little sander! I really like mine. Thanks Matt. (Little Rock)
Just ordered one. Nice
Got mine on sale for $99 while on a trip. Flew back with the sander in my suitcase and the battery in my carryon.
Once again, so timely. Next on my list after I get the domino. It never ends I'm realizing
I have a little Black and Decker "mouse" sander from like 20 years ago. Still use it. It's got that same shape/concept with the point at the end. It's great. I swear it beats out the Craftsman orbital I got just recently. It's not quite as small as that one you showed, but it's still extremely handy and does a great job.
Lol, I have the same sander as well. Black and Decker tools are underrated especially for the diy type guys!
I also have a porter cable multi tool it has a sanding attachment as well. Have not used it yet but it looks very functional. The multi tool is a little heavy. It might not be the most ergonomic option!
This is why I had a hard time really appreciating this m12. The b&d also has dust collection.
@@ChrisBranleh not mine! lol. I think i got the first model. I remember shortly after getting one they came out with a new, and what looked to be, much more improved one. Needless to say they've changed a lot over the years. I'm sure mine pales in comparison to the modern ones, but it works just fine.
The batteries look very similar to the Bosch batteries. GOD bless you sir for including HIS word in your video!
On of my next investments for sure !
New sub from a fellow arkansan. Great review. Or course I watched it after I purchased the orbital. Wish I got this instead.
My local HD had those kits clearanced out for $99 ~1 month back, picked one up after a video you made about it. Glad I did, so easy to use on small stuff.
Great price!
Think I’m needing that
Yeah, I've been looking at that since you showed it. Was really, really not looking to get into another battery line, but that sander looks amazing. Would have come in really handy for my last project and I wish I already had it.
It's really hard to buy into a new platform. I resisted for a very long time. I think it's worth considering a new platform when they have tools the others don't (like this sander) or they have an extensive library of tools like DeWALT or Ryobi. That's one thing I think Ridgid lacks is all the "extras" of a lot of the other companies.
@@731Woodworks 💯👍
@@731Woodworks based on your review I got the 3M Xtract, question do I need a pad protector? Is where do I get one and what is the part number?
You could always get the attachment for any multitool
occilating saw
I had to repaint some internal trim, so I picked up the Milwaukee orbital, quarter sheet, and detail sanders. They're all great imho. Now I need an excuse to get the belt sander lol.
I use the Milwaukee M12 and M18 tools. I have noticed that M12 batteries charge faster in the M18/M12 charger than in the M12 only charger.
I started out on the Ridgid 12v platform until they discontinued it and had to find another 12v platform. After researching I ended up on the Milwaukee M12 platform getting the gen2 Fuel Hammer drill/Impact kit during the holidays. Since then the M12 bug has bitten me hard...lol! This will probably be the next M12 tool I purchase. With the soon to be release of the M12 Fuel planer, hopefully we'll get to see a review on that tool from ya and what kind of projects you would use it on!
I picked one up back in December when you first presented it...about $99 as well. I absolutely love it for detailing. Thank you, Sir!
Great deal! It's a handy little sander!
It's my favorite sander
May like better than my Festool
Perfect for smaller furniture
I really dislike how so many people are using these leading and baiting headlines... but.... I like how you did it, because I think it was pretty obvious what you were doing and that this would be an endorsement for this tool... fine line, but I think you walked it!
Nice sander......I have a ton of Dewalt tools.......I think I'll wait and see if they come out with one.
Just a thought on dust collection. Just turn on your vacuum and lay the nozzle next to your work area. It might not be perfect but it’s an option. That an a respirator would be perfect.
Milwaukee tools would be a great platform.
Dust collection/extraction is critical when sanding. Sanding dust is the perfect size to get into and stay in the lungs. Some of exotics are toxic and even some domestics are irritants. If a sander doesn't have dust extraction, use a down-draft table. I really is critical for your health.
I've been using the Milwaukee M12 platform for 15+ years and I still think it has the best bang for the buck. I have an 18V Makita drill/driver which I rarely use. I am 70 years old, light weight and physical size make a difference.
I am not thrilled about Milwaukee phasing out the M12 drill/drivers for hammer drills. I have only needed a hammer drill once or twice in the last 50+ years. In those cases a concrete bit was good enough. I do have a few star drills in the tool box. Bottom line the additional weight and size is more important.
Another pet peeve is Milwaukee going to 1/2" chucks on their M12 drills. When was the last time you used a 1/2" drill bit? All of the drill bits I have that are bigger than 3/8" in diameter have the shanks reduced to a nominal 3/8".
Oh, I forgot the subject matter of the video. After the end of my wife's moratorium on tool buying, I'll be adding the sander to my wish list.
Changed my life
Another great, and insightful, and helpful video! You're the man to follow here. For both those of us with decades of experience in woodworking and the novice who's just getting started.
"The Mr. Miyagi of sanders. wax on wax off!" LOL 🤣😂🤣😎 but you're showing our age here. At least our chronological age, not necessarily our metal age! 🤭
I didn't know it existed. Bought this tool right after watching this video.
best woodworking tool channel hands down.
Wow, thanks!
Looks like a great tool. Even though I have the Festool RO 90. It's much heavier and not cordless. Might have to pick one up. But, what was with that headline?
I got a milwaukee impact and ratchet purely by accident! They use the m12 batteries honestly absolutely awesome tools. I'm really considering the sander. But even having the battery plate from the cost is just to outrageous! I say this to anyone considering it. Unless you doing hours of sanding a day or even a week your money is best spent on a regular sander and you can hand sandcthe finer parts .
Check your local Home Depot. I just bought this sander on February 1st for $99 complete kit. This thing is nice
I’ve given up trying to stick to one battery platform. I started with Dewalt, which was good for a beginner for all the basic tools. I then got a deal of a Riyobi pin nailer on sale, which has been great. The Festool cordless 55 track saw was next: no regrets. I recently got the Bosch small compact drill and love it. At this point, what’s one more battery platform?
If you haven’t already, you should really check out the M12 Fuel Oscillating Tool (2526-20). It’s a beast. Out performs most 18v and has almost no vibration.
The fact that I have one is the only reason I'm considering this sander...they're both really good and can share batteries. Not a fan of Milwaukee's fatter grip compared to the more comfortable DeWalt tools though.
What is difference in results between this and fein with sanding pad? I know motion is slightly different. Interested in sanding results
I bought this m12 sander. It was very comfortable to use and had decent power. But it was very hard to control 1 handed seemed like I couldn’t keep it flat without putting 2 hand on which for this shouldn’t be necessary. But it did well just wasn’t for me so Home Depot got er back
,a cool video keep up the great content.. Thank you……
Thanks for watching!
@@731Woodworks Thank you very mutch... have a nice Weekend.... see you….
I have yet to find a corner sander that doesn't totally wear off the paper and the pad after 30 seconds. I like my Rotex 90 I'll stick with that
What's the best variable speed orbital mini sander for convex curvatures? Would this tool work using the thick softpad? Thanks
I would love to get this but here in Canada it’s 230ish tax in tool only, going to wait until I can get a used one for 100ish or wait for a good sale on it
I'll just wait and see if Bosch comes up with something similar for their 12V range. Until then, I'll stick with my 18V Bosch OT with the delta attachment and dust extraction adapter...
I want one...
No dust collection for this tool? Sounds like a great opportunity to build a downdraft table.
Great review
I have had my eye on the Skill 12 volt line. This really caught my eye, SKIL PWR CORE Compact 12-Volt Brushless Cordless Detail Sander with Dust Management (Battery Included)
Item #5041695
Model #SR6608A-10
Lowes has the kit for $99.
Another reason why I have been looking at Skill is because their tools are made by the same manufacturer as Flex, and I love Flex tools. I was told by a Flex rep that they are not planning on releasing a 12 volt line because they are using Skil for that. They want to keep Flex a 24 volt line exclusively.
You need to get an M12 right angle drill. It is the best tool for installing drawer slides, and so many other things.
Thanks for another great video!
I've had a lot of folks recommend that tool. I'll have to check it out!
Yes I get tired of sand with the orbit and sometimes my hand gets tired
Team Milwaukee. All. The. Way.
Matt, great video and great info on the Milwaukee sander!! Hey, start using and putting up a Bible verse at the end or beginning of all your videos brother!! Have a blessed, great week!!
the only battery tools I have are a pair of craftsman 19.2 drills straight and right angle... been waiting to pull the trigger on another battery system to get an impact driver and small circular saw.... this may be the system... besides I grew up in Milwaukee, (moved to Texas in 1971) yeah, I'm an old F@rt... 73......
Milwaukee makes some great tools. I just started buying them a few months ago but so far I like what I have purchased.
Hey hey from iowaaaaay! If you’re interested in dewalt, I was at Lowe’s and Home Depot yesterday, so I don’t remember which one it was but they’re running a buy two powerstaack batteries get a free bare tool. It didn’t come with a charging station though.
What's the name of the camera stand that you use for your phone? Looks well built and sturdy!
Switchpod
Dewalt multi tool has had this shape sander attachment for a while.
This has a small random orbital feature which produces a cleaner finish. Both work well just means more passes of finer grit with the multi tool.
I have learned that Milwaukee cordless fuel are hands down the best tools for people who use them all day everyday
DeWalt grips are more ergonomic and comfortable, important for all day use.
How does this compare to the Mirka DEOS Delta 663cv?
Guys! I need a sander. I have all the ryobi tools, so I’ve been using the ryobi circular sander on all my projects. The noise.. the vibration, the weight.. it’s killing my joints. I’m not gonna be able to woodwork very long with this thing. Any suggestions?
Game changing sander. Awesome tool
I love your videos and enjoy each one. Great job. Question: I have been looking on the Amazon and Home Depot web sites before I buy this, hwoever I am not been able to find the sanding sheets that fits this. Are the they strickly made and sold only by Milwaukee? Or is there another place they can be purchased without paying an arm and leg or having to cut your own? Thoughts?
They are pricey for what they are. Unfortunately I think only Milwaukee makes this specific shape. Try either ToolNut or Ohio Power Tool to see if either has them cheaper.
After sending you my question, I found that Home Depot "did" sell these. And yes, they are a little (a lot) on the expensive side: 12 pack for $12.97.
Oh well, I guess buying more of these will help stimulate the economy. 🥴 Thanks again
how do you change the battery??
I sW you review this before Christmas and I was very interested but the price kept me away. I went into the orange box store right before New Years and saw they discounted it to $129.95 and right I to my cart. I already had the M12 ratchet with charger and 2 batteries, never too many I say.
You can buy sheets of Diablo net sand paper, and cut out your own out of it in a pinch.
When I saw your review, I just had to have this as it was something that the market was overdue for. I love this little sander as it is much easier to sand those small projects with it instead of my 1/3 finish sander. As with any new product that comes to market, there will be issues. I purchased one of these and as soon as i received it, I went to work. In the first 90 seconds of use, the tool stopped working. I initially thought that I had a dead battery and switched out to another one, only for the tool to run for another minute or so before it also stopped working. That's when I noticed that the indicator lights were flashing which indicated that the tool was overheating. Immediately called Milwaukee who instructed me to send in the tool for repair. 2 1/2 weeks later I got a new replacement tool. Used it for two weeks without any issues and all of a sudden, the tool randomly indicates that it is overheating, regardless of whether or not the tool was being used and will not function. When it works, this is a great little tool and I love it, but not so much when it doesn't work
Oh wow. Sorry for your troubles with it. I've used mine quite a bit and it is still going strong. I wonder if they had a bad batch?
Nice review. Now I don't have to convince my wife since you did.
lol happy to help
Channel turned into 731 Tool review.
FYI channel has always had tool reviews. 🤷🏻♂
So would you recommend it over the Rikon? That 5 year warranty is looking pretty nice!!
I think the Rikon is a great little sander for $100. It removes material faster than this little M12. But this one just gets into corners much better due to the shape of the sanding head. And with the Rikon, as far as I know, that's the only tool they have with that battery. With the M12 sander, if you decided to add another Milwaukee M12 tool later, at least your batteries would interchange.
@@731Woodworks that’s a good point! I’ll probably never buy another battery powered Rikon tool
it looks like in the future it could have different shaped heads.
Black and Decker invented this type "Mouse" sander like 100yrs ago, no battery required and only $15. 1 out of 100 woodworkers buy the Milwaukee platform, if you are the one then get it. Love the channel though.
Great idea! Thanks for sharing this. I’ll be checking out the tool only since I have the driver, 3 of the batteries, and 2 chargers since my larger drill has dual-sized battery slots.
I asked a question on your video about the Oliver planer. Can you help me with a question about it please?
I just destroyed my very old
Craftsman planer today and am really interested in the Oliver. Can you please tell me how many poles it has across the top (underneath the black plastic)? I can't find that information anywhere so far, but figured you would be able to answer me fairly quickly and accurately. Thanks in advance! - Teri
It has one bar on each corner that act as guide rails. It also has 2 in the center that are threaded rods and that is how it raises and lowers.
OK, thanks for the reply. My question is actually in reference to horizontal poles. The old one I have has only one pole across the top, and I’ve seen the Bear guy on the Den of Tools ,(I think it’s called), mention that it’s better to have more than just one. I spoke with a Woodcraft tech guy this morning and we discussed the need for it on this planer. I feel that because the handles are on the bottom, (and lifting it more properly than the other versions, as far as back support), this actually doesn’t require pole(s) and in order to make it structurally sound. I’ve actually found it difficult to lift my current one using the handles that are on the top because that makes the majority of the weight so much lower. My husband doesn’t even use those. I’ve tried to stop him when he lifts it with that single post going across there, (even though it plainly says do not lift it by that.)
The Oliver’s base is made out of steel, not any version of aluminum, and all four posts in the corners and the spiral rods are (welded?) in to the steel securely. The guy told me that the plastic sides and top are basically just a protective housing to keep excess things (maybe like loose clothing, fingers, long hair?), off of the movable housing for the blades.
I’m not sure if yours came with a disclaimer/warning sticker on the top that says “Do not stand” on it, lol, but they do have that on there now. (Are YOU the reason why??? 😂) I know for a fact I will never need to stand on top of mine, and I have never thrown a board across the top of any planner previously so that plastic piece is fine with me and the thickness gauge on it is actually a good idea.
Now to just wait for it to arrive so I can get back to work!!!
@@MHI.creations.workshop the vertical bars are bolted onto the base from underneath. The top horizontal bars....there are none. Only the cheap molded piece of plastic (it does say "no step") that connects the two sides.
I got that M12 sander a couple months ago and I do like it. The little thing sands like mad. The only problem, for now, is up here in the Great White North it can be a bit difficult to find the sanding sheets but they are starting to show up in stores. I am having trouble finding 220 grit so it looks like I'll have to cut my own. No problem.
Btw, thank you for the Bible quote. Nothing's more important than the Word.
I wonder how this compares to the m12 oscillating tool with a sanding pad 🤔
He shows the difference. The oscillating tool is very loud (I have it) and goes back and forth with no orbital motion.
