    I use several of The Ordinary products and love them!
    There's a reason for instructions. Hope people are not put off of the brand because of incorrect use.

    • @LisaMonique
      @LisaMonique  4 года назад +7

      Yes, but unfortunately, the instructions are not included with the products!! Mine misuse was obvious, but my esthetician friends say they see a lot of misuse on active products and improper mixing (all product lines, not just The Ordinary), with long term and more serious damage!.

    I swear by their products. My skin has changed so much. I was a tanner (Scottsdale) for 45 years. I never even put moisturizer on my face. Luckily, I have bullet proof skin. I love The Ordinary. I went in slowly with it and I have had great experiences with it. I did follow Kimberly's routine.

    Lisa, I started using The Ordinary products but was so so confused about what I could and couldn't use with what. I went on the site and printed out their whole big chart of what products can and cannot be used at the same time. I taped it to the inside of my bathroom closet where my skin care and cosmetics are kept. Not only could I easily look up what I should and shouln't use together but it helped me commit it to memory. Still great as a quick reference guide!!

    • @LisaMonique
      @LisaMonique  2 года назад

      That’s a great hint because their products are complex. Of course my girlfriend just bought a kit that was sold together as a brightening kit from the ordinary at Ulta this week and gave herself a chemical burn all over her face and neck… I think the most important thing with acids is patch test! She used products the Ordinary recommended together, following their instructions!

    • @sherrysmith5422
      @sherrysmith5422 2 года назад

      I think my biggest takeaway on their chart was Vitamin C does not play well with some peptides , other acids, or retinal products.......

      I just added the ordinary 10% niacinimide solution to my regime and it's a game changer for my oily skin. I wouldn't recommend it for dry skin or super, super sensitive skin, but under my tretinoin it's nothing short of a miracle. It's a bit tacky and can pill, so I wouldn't recommend it for daytime use if you're going to layer it under sunscreen and makeup. That being said, a light, *stress* light layer might work for you if you give it time to sink in. It also doesn't sting my skin , so I don't know what's up with that. Cera ve pm moisturizer, which has niacinimide at 4% stings a little bit. Go figure. :/ And I love my cera ve pm.

      Hi 👋 Angela😍... I really don’t know why youtube recommended this video for me; but then I watched it till the end and was about commenting and then i got caught up with your comment. I couldn't just pass by without writing you... You want to know what I think; Well, I love seeing woman in makeup, but like a lot of men, I don't like seeing a heavy amount of it. Let the makeup highlight your natural beauty… There's nothing in this world like it. I think a woman's makeup should only accentuate her natural features. Too much makeup tends to take away from her appearance as opposed to adding to it. Less can be good… If I can't see skin and her eyelashes look like Tammy Faye Baker, it's too much.

    Hi Lisa … I’m a new subscriber, watching a few of your older videos. As a licensed esthetician/esthetics instructor, I’d like to offer a few tips you may or may not find helpful. Please don’t misunderstand … not intending to ‘be the boss of you’, just to help. So here are my top tips: #1 - pH is a key factor in skin barrier integrity and antimicrobial defense. On the pH scale of 1-14, 7 being considered neutral, the skin on your face (untreated) tends to be slightly acidic in the 5/6 range. Interestingly, newborns tend to start at around 7 and lower with age. This is where your skin is happiest. When you’re throwing a lot of different products at it, your barrier can become quite compromised, resulting in irritation. Lets say you’re using a lot of low (acidic) products and experience that irritation. You want to bring that pH up a bit, right? Just dissolve about a tablespoon of baking soda (highly alkaline) in a cup of warm water and swab your face with it. Voila … you should experience quick relief. Now, if you were using an enzyme product (highly alkaline) to exfoliate, while you may not experience the same level of irritation as with an acid, you still want to normalize your pH to protect your barrier and its function. The remedy? A similar mixture using a tablespoon of vinegar (acidic) in water. Then carry on with the remainder of your routine, which brings me to the order in which to layer products. The most important thing you need to remember is ‘thin to thick’, and ‘clear to cloudy’, unless you’re including an antioxidant formula, which you would typically apply first, no matter the viscosity. Your final product should always be the heaviest in your routine, typically a product that contains lipids (fats/oils) that lock everything in and prevent TEWL (trans-epidermal water loss). Lastly, before any type of ‘peel’, treat your skin with tyrosinase inhibitors for a couple of weeks beforehand. These include, but are not limited to, kojic acid, ferulic acid, licorice extract, alpha arbutin, etc. These will inhibit the activity of the melanocytes and cut down on the hyperpigmentation you experienced post peel. Of course, when you are prone to this type of hyperpigmentation (darker skintones tend to be), regular use of these products are recommended!
    Ok - that’s all I have to share for now. 🤗. Hope you find it helpful!! One more thing … if you want to do a deep dive into how the skin functions, check out the book ‘Milady Standard Esthetics Fundamentals’ on Amazon. Not inexpensive, but a great investment if you are interested in learning all things skin. 🤗🤗🤗

      Beth Graham Wellness I suppose except hyaluronic acid isn’t an important ingredient anyway. It temporarily pulls water from the air and puts it into your skin which plumps it up slightly and moisturizes it. If there isn’t enough moisture in the air though, it will actually take that moisture FROM your skin...which isn’t good lol. For all of that, the effects don’t last long anyways. It’s one of those ingredients that just doesn’t deserve all of the hype in my opinion. For that one I always kind of thought less is more...just my thoughts though 🙂

    Finally! Someone else that makes silly mistakes and owns up. I'm just getting over the burnt skin around my eyes too. I started using The Ordinary Argireline Solution 10% because it is supposed to brighten the skin and be especially good for around the eyes. Might be for some but it burnt the skin around my eyes and I've had sore, red and peeling skin for a couple of weeks. I stopped using everything except jojoba oil and it's finally cleared up. I'll stick to their Caffeine for my eyes in future.

      I don’t think Argireline Solution is for brightening. They call it Botox in a bottle. It’s suppose to relax the muscles that cause deeper wrinkles like the 11’s between brows and others. I’d be careful where you put it. I have it, but I forget to use it because I’m trying to prevent those deeper lines, but I don’t have any yet so there is nothing to remind me 🤷‍♀️

    You (along with way toooo many other people) fell in a few traps.
    - It takes a serious study or weeks of reading to be able to develop your own regimes.
    - Higher % is NOT equal to better. Introducing a lot of actives at the same time is never a good idea.
    - Not buying the right products along the needed actives to be able to dilute when starting.
    - Understanding how and why conflicts exist is different from simply reading a flyer.
    -+ But the biggest trap (in general and in life) is: To focus on what one desires/wants instead of on what one actually needs.
    Based on the information you give I would’ve never advised any of the products you bought. What you should’ve bought instead.......? Who knows at this point! Skin type, skin condition, other products you use actively, main focus, goals etc.

    Hi Lisa, I use the copper peptides and they do have a place with other Ordinary products but it is limited for safety and other negative results.
    My skin has been desensitized while using the Ordinary products for over a year...so my skin accepts these products gratefully. Anyone using multiple active ingredients needs to build up gradually to decrease potential irritation to their skin. Everyone's skin is different and must be respected.
    In the Am...I cleanse with a fiber cloth only, apply "Alpha Arbutrin", then copper peptides, then mix Niacinamide powder with the Moisturizing Factors with no issues at all.
    I recently changed my PM routine to "cleanse with their oil cleanser, apply Vit C Suspension 30%, Alpha Arbutrin and then Moisturizing Factors...also no problem for my skin.
    1-2 x week I use the Peeling Solution after an hour of Vit C 30% absorbing...then AA again and Moisturizing Factors to seal it in...no problems. Vit C Suspension works better for me at night rather than morning for better brightening. I have tried other AHA's in the past and the burning and process was very uncomfortable. The Ordinary's Peeling Solution is fantastic and so is the red. That's part of the fun of using it. The "stingle" is intense if your skin is using it for the first time, or you aren't used to acids...so The Ordinary recommends removing it before 10 mts if it starts stinging. A "stingle" is very different from a "tingle"...so let's be honest about that...lol.

      At night, I mix 5 drops of the niacinamide and 5 drops of the buffet in my hands and spread over my face and neck. I wait a couple of minutes then follow with my RetinA and moisturizer. Never have any issues whatsoever.
      In the morning I use vitamin C (the one w/vit F) mixed with an antioxidant before sunscreen. It’s been a great routine for me.

Coming in at £20.00, I think it's really expensive and because it's part of a skincare routine, it's kind of hard to hone in on its specific results due to the product being used in conjunction with other products or not. However, it is a big seller, so there must be something great going on with this product.

    I bought a few products from The Ordinary and then contacted them as I wasn't sure if I had bought wisely for the concerns I wanted to address. They came back and told me that 2 of the products I had bought wouldn't address my issues and recommended a few. Not only that but I had told them that my saggy eyelids had really affected my confidence and I'd like something to address that - my left eyelid drops down halfway across my pupil every evening. It overhangs the eyelashes for the rest of the day. I have ptosis in my left eye. Anyway, I also told them I was retired early due to ill health and so my budget was limited. They recommended NIOD's FECC for my eyelids which is more expensive than The Ordinary. They said they understood I was on a budget and therefore they would like to gift it to me if that was okay with me. Needless to say I said yes! I couldn't believe it. I fell in love with it straight away. Not only does it lift the eyelids but it also makes the eyelashes grow! My eyelashes had become v sparse in recent years whereby they used to be so long they'd touch my eyebrows almost. 2 weeks into using the serum and my eyelashes were really long again!! I love the AHA/BHA peel and my 15 year old daughter uses it for her keratosis pilaris. She also uses the glycolic acid toner and between the two of them the kp on her face is almost gone.

My daughters pm routine is cleanse with cerave SA cleanser. Then either glycolic acid toner or good molecules niacinamide toner. Then secret key and depending on where her skin is at that day perhaps one or two essences and moisturise. AM - when she can be bothered! - she just splashes her face with water, secret key essence, moisturise and sunscreen.

    I'm 66 and have used TO since they began. When starting any skin care product you must trial one at a time. If you react badly to a product, you can't possibly know which one it is if you start multiple products at once. I've used tretinoin for about 30 years and that, together with SPF 50 EVERY day has kept my face relatively youngish. I use about 7 TO products and am happy with them all. I can't justify paying a fortune for brands like Drunk Elephant when I can pay under $10 for most TO products.

When irritated you stop all the irritating products, only gentle cleanser and moisture until your protective barrier is restored is enough. You have beautiful skin. Be careful and nice to your skin and try not to over exfoliate. It is the only skin you have.

      Oh and of course you are cleansing nightly with a gentle milky based cleanser, following it with a leave on exfoliant like Paula's Choice Daily smoothing Treatment with 5%Aha
      PM: try the same routine, but replace the Vit C with the Niacinamide.. in the morning when u wake u will be hydrated, ur acid mantel in tact,

That's what I did in February at the age of 49 - now 50. I'm so glad I did because I was getting lost on the website! I had already bought 4 products and it turned out that two of them would do nothing for my concerns. At least they were honest enough to say that to me too. The products are great when you know how to use them . Some products are for morning use, and retinols etc are used at night. There is a guide that you can print out from their page. But never mix if you don't know what reacts to other products.

I can guarantee niacinimide will be at the top of any list! Here’s a good video to start with: What to Buy on Uour First Order: ruclips.net/video/QO68HnjDYiA/видео.html

      If you contact The Ordinary via their website, they'll get you to upload photos. Tell them what concerns you want to address and they'll recommend products to you. They NEVER recommend stuff you don't need so you can trust them on that front. They won't be pushing stuff on you just for sales.

I was about commenting when I got captivated by your comment and I couldn't just pass by without writing you … I can tell you for a fact that; if I was a lady, I have learnt something cool... Makeup for women is pretty cool because it accentuates her natural features, but like a lot of men, I don't like seeing a heavy amount of it. Let the makeup highlight your natural beauty only… There's nothing in this world like it… I know it isn't right doing this here, but then where would have been the perfect place; My name is Jayden, do you mind if we connect, be friends and get to know more about ourselves and see where it takes us?

      Christine, if you contact the ordinary they'll recommend products for you and they'll email you a regimen on how to use them. I did that in February and they emailed me one am routine and 3 pm routines to be alternated. Been working great for me. My skin didn't like the niacinamide. It keeps soaping up on me so I changed to Good molecules niacinamide toner instead.

      Oh good! I’m pretty sure I’ve use my copper peptides and tretinoin before, the new one for me was the vitamin C which I think I just bought a too strong formulation, Especially with all the research I’ve done since and have learned it is the active with the most chance of irritation. Stronger is not better!

      Radhika P My Retin-A is my holy grail product. I have not noticed volume loss, but I have noticed reduce wrinkles and pore size and silky soft skin. I don’t actually put it directly under my eyes or around my mouth, I put it more high on my cheekbone so it can migrate up towards my eyes and there’s fine wrinkles there, and I put above my brow bone. I find when it gets too close to my nose it gets really dry and almost like eczema, so I try and keep it away from that area. I have been using faithfully for 11 months now.

    Unfortunately if you are not dermarolling or microneedling before applying these products, most just sit on your skin until u wash them off. Especially true of the peptides. The antioxidants are good to use I dilute the Vit C with a moisturizer with plant extracts and caffeine , (Baxter's) otherwise it burns.

    The niacidamid can be used with mostly everything. Also the the copper peptides. I use the clycolic acid toner in the morning always, use glycolic acid 3 nights a week, and the Retinoid every other night. I am almost 50 but the ordinary has given me my youthfuI skin back, no more pores showing, no more fine lines. Niw.. I have to say, what you did to your skin is jaw dropping, like, next level idiot😂😂😂. Glad you are ok ☺️

      Sometimes we all do things we regret! And products that work for one person are extremely irritating to another. I have since discovered Vitamin C is extreme irritating to my skin and if I avoid, my skin can tolerate most other actives. I now just use one serum with both niacinimide and copper peptides and my skin is very happy!

      @@LisaMonique totally agree, what is good for the skin of one can be horrible for the skin of someone else ☺️. I am so lucky that i am not sensitive to anything, but even i found that i had to take my sweet time to have the skin get used to the glycolic acid, its strong stuff, and so is the vitamin c. Love watching your content, stay safe and take care now 🌹🥀

      Agree!!! I have simplified my routine considerably since I made that video. I’ve also learned to listen to my skin. I pretty much just use niacinamide and a prescription retinol, Hydroquinone, Kojic Acid, and Desonide blend. With occasional AHA/BHA. My skin does a lot better now that I’m not experimenting with the skin care. That’s why you don’t see that many skin care videos anymore, though I’m getting ready for my annual skincare routine💕

      I am sure if I didn’t use wrong, I wouldn’t have had any issues! Well, maybe the vitamin C was still in too strong for me, but it would be the typical reaction where you apply, get the light tingle, maybe some redness, and then you decide to cut back how often do you use. It is a great line!
