I did want to add if you have a drawer full of Matte lipstick’s like I do, you can always just use a Gloss topper and still enjoy the shades.
Yes , I agree . A nice lipcolour can be great on mature women
Im 52, and have never bought matte lipstick because it draws attn to my smile lines. I dont want to bother adding gloss. I would much rather buy shine cream and reapply as needed.
Do you still use lip liner?
@@farrahc680 Only when I wear darker colors, like reds or deep pinks...though I did just buy a new one in my daytime shades that I'll mention this weekend, lol.
@@LisaMonique I stopped using foundation or concealer around my mouth because it made my vertical lip lines look worse. Any tips?
Your so beautiful. I decided to stop wearing makeup. After long research and trial and errors I discovered high quality derma pen and started doing sessions at home. that little device changed my skin in a way that nothing else did. My fine lines have disappeared completely, and my nasolabial folds are way less prominent/nonexist. People often underestimate the power of wounding and the revolutionary effects it can have on the skin.
I swear I had the same experience with microneedling, too bad I didn't started long ago haha

I like that you include inexpensive products too for those of us who can’t afford high end products. Thx so much!
Yes, though I typically shop at Sephora and Ulta as they have more shades that show up on deeper skin tones in store, I try to mix it up! Thanks for watching and have a wonderful day! 🌸💕🌸
Yes, I agree! Thank you.
Yes....very helpful
Just found your channel and subscribed IMMEDIATELY!
54 years old here, gave up on wearing makeup over a decade ago, because I just hated how nothing looked good when I was done. I'm just now understanding that the only makeup schooling I've ever had was from 17 Magazine back in the day. Lordy...
Your work hits every note of what we need. Simplicity, ease, fast and perfect.
So yeah... you're my makeup mom now. Love you!!!❤️
Haha, I LOVED Seventeen Magazine growing up! What a quick trip down memory lane!
I was once an Esthetician….. I could create a full makeup style, and obviously 50 stopped that fun. And, now facing 60, yet able to keep some youth to my face only🤦🏻♀️, I am struggling with finding&wearing the proper makeup. All areas’ of my face.
I had to 🛑 tanning, and due to a laser treatment, my skin became too sensitive to handle most products. I am now super pale, therefore, finding the proper shades to cover underneath & on eyelids is a constant battle. Help
@@isabellac1117 why would age 50 stop that. That makes no sense to me. 😢
Thank you for the part about still wearing eye liner under your eye! So many over 50 make up tutorials tell us not line our lower lid/lashes because it ages you and closes the eye, but I think not lining it makes me look washed out and makes my eyes look small. Lining underneath gives your eyes emphasis and makes them look bigger and more youthful.
I agree! I’m sure it depends on features, skin tone, lash color etc…but I need the entire eye defined!
I think it's individual I always look much better and youthful if I don't put eyeliner under my eyes. Then I see someone my age who looks good so I try again and it doesn't suit me
@@saphiael-mansub2206 I totally agree! It depends on your skin tone, you eyes, your lashes and brows....it can be so different person to person 💕
Although I’m not a daily makeup user, I have found that using concealer one or two shades lighter than my foundation & blending it around the eyes opens them up, especially when applied between the the eyes, around the outer edges, and on the brow ridges. I prefer that to eyeliner, which also seems to have fallen out of fashion since the early 2000s for the most part.
I worked with Film makeup artists for 40 years. They use a moist angle brush with eye shadow. Softer finish especially for lighter hair and skin.
I really liked this, and I have subscribed now. No annoying music, straight to the point information, 3 different expense levels of cosmetics, and no long winded stories that need to be skipped through, and a pleasant, clear speaking voice. Wonderful presentation ! Thank you ☺️
That is so important about the clear voice and speech. Some of these other people really needed to have taken public speaking before they even ever attempted to start talking on their RUclips channels. Some mumble, run their words together, and look down while doing so so you cannot even read their lips. And then on top of that they may not even enable captions which makes it hopeless!!😃🤹♀️
I agree completely on @heather post!
Totally agree 🤗
Exactly.
So many other tutorials are long winded, takes to much time to convey a thought or idea...I do t have the patience to watch them through....
Totally agree!
Hi. Just followed the routine. My husband, sawing a hole out of a darkened shed (!), asked if I had been doing my make-up, as I looked more fresh-faced and beautiful than ever"! He never comments normally!! Thank you Monique!
That is awesome! Thank you for sharing!! 💕💕💕
I'm one of the women you talk about at the beginning of this video: I don't wear any makeup because I don't have confidence in my ability to apply it and I fear overdoing things, ending up looking like a mature woman trying to be 18 again! Appreciate the straightforward advice. The photos of your friends/clients were helpful. I'm actually going to go out to buy a few products and give them a try because of this video...😬
Wonderful! Have fun experimenting!
I just accidentally discovered this channel and I realized you’re talking to me. I’ve often wondered how I got to be 62 and I don’t know how to use makeup. I didn’t think about the fact that I didn’t need it when I was young. I ask my daughter and granddaughter and they’re on a different planet when it comes to makeup. I like that you don’t use expensive products I’ve never heard of. Thank you!
I just discovered this channel. I stopped watching the "over 50" makeup tutorials a while ago because the routines and application methods were crazy and time-consuming. When you did your one-and-done eye makeup, I knew I had found my people! Products that don't cost an arm and a leg, easy application, and gorgeous, youthful results. Thanks, Lisa, I'm hooked!
I just discovered her as well tonight and I totally agree with you. This is super helpful, she great.
I subscribed and hit the 🔔
I just discovered this channel too and echo your sentiments exactly!
I agree! I don't use a full face makeup daily-
A DOSE OF FRESH AIR!
I'm glad I found her as well 🥰
Exactly my thoughts, just watched my first!!!
I just scrolling through suggest videos after watching something completely different and this one was there. I nearly bypassed it & want back to watch it. I'm was hooked as soon as she said she did makeup for photo shoots & went to school for this.
I really enjoyed this video! I am 72. I was born a blonde with very blonde eyelashes and eyebrows-in other words, invisible! No color at all on my face. I started wearing makeup at 16 and never looked back. I love looking as good as I can every day.
I agreed with everything you said, especially about the lash serum, mascara and eyeliner. Such good advice! Thank you!!
Same here!
What does the lash serum do for your eyelashes?
I’m 39. This is THE best-and I mean THE BEST makeup tutorial for not just beautiful women who are over 50, but also over 35!! I have felt very overwhelmed trying to wear makeup again after a 10 year hiatus. GREAT VIDEO. Keep ‘em coming!
Thank you Nikki 💕💕💕
Especially when they try to teach the wing. I have small hooded eyes and it DOES NOT WORK FOR ME
I'm 52 and I've worn makeup since I was 16. I love makeup its just a great morning routine for me. It's my little time for a little creativity.
just wanted to give you a thank you shout out. Went out last night and did my eye makeup the way you taught me. Saw an old friend, and the first thing she said was "your eyes look beautiful" 🤩
Yay!!! Thanks for letting me know.💕💕💕
I'm in my mid-thirties, and the advice about evening out of the skin color around/under/on the nose is spot on. I realize nowadays it's generally the only makeup I'll apply (along with under my eyes and my eyelids). Quite an effective short step, that makes a remarkable enhancement (for me at least)
I appreciate this video. I just saw a photo of myself and realized exactly what you said- I am not wearing enough makeup! I look washed out and blah. I am going to up my game- thanks for your tips.
Im so glad you find it helpful 💕💕💕. Thank you for watching 🍁🍂🍁🍂
25 year old here. The trend report you read is correct🤣 its the year of blush and crazy blush colors and using lots of blush everywhere! I love it. I always loved blush. My mom got me started on her OG cover girl mauve blush when I was a young teen and I always adored the way it brought life and youth into the face.
Awesome info though. Makes me wanna help my mom update her makeup skill and show her a few nice, simple products. She always looks nice when she does her makeup but I know she's feeling "old" and out of touch and I feel like showing her some really nice non-drugstore makeup and how to use them would boost her self image a bit
I'd go for one of the more sophisticated, classic brands with beautiful natural tones, like Bobbi Brown and Laura Mercier (as opposed to the trendy stuff such as Urban Decay or Tarte).
My daughter just told me to use blush, lol.
Thank you for the tips! One thing I've never been able to master is eyeliner 😒. I heard once that women over 40 shouldn't wear brown makeup, and I tend to agree...but I do like the idea of rose gold eye shadow...I'll look for some!
@Hello there, how are you doing this blessed day?
Thank you. I’m 72 and always wore makeup. I kind of stopped 5 years ago when my 91 year old mom died. I realize how much older I look with no blending and definitely eyebrows. My own brows got very sparse. I’m going to the store and buying new makeup.😊Thank you.❤
These are great tips! I followed what you taught through the whole video. I looked and felt great. When my husband of 35 years came home that evening, he made a comment about how good I looked, how nice! Thank you so much, I have been struggling with makeup application since I turned 50 ten years ago! Thank you a million times over for this life changing instructional video.
Wonderful! This makes me so happy!! My favorite comment ❤❤❤❤
Such a sweet story ! Thanks for sharing !
@@NOBODY-fz3im do men age gracefully? Shaved heads every other day to cover baldness, it used to be hair plugs and comb overs, they also color their hair, get facials and other face treatments too! We don't HAVE to do anything! But if we want to, we have options and YT to show us how 🥰🌸💕🌸💕
@@NOBODY-fz3im hi, I agree with your thinking, but I’ve always used makeup to feel put together and pretty, and I always kept my look as natural as possible, I am actually not trying to use makeup to look younger, but with these tips I had an excellent outcome. Pretty and natural, I want to grow old gracefully as I can. Mostly for me 😊
Well good for you and your hubby. Mine said that I am still a stunner after 39 years together, he is a darling
I’m 64 and one of very few women who wears makeup to my nighttime shipping company job. I’ve picked up many tips from YT on what to buy and how to use and your video gave me a few more tips so thank you!! I also just ordered that eyelash curler!!
You’ll love it, I swore by my Shu Umera before I got this one and now I don’t know why I liked it, I can’t stand to use any more! 😂😂😂
@@LisaMonique Shut the front door!! That's the eyelash curler I currently used. Probably almost two years now! I read somewhere that Meghan Markle recommended it!!
I stopped wearing makeup in March 2020 when the pandemic started and I went freelance. I definitely needed a basic overview of how to do it! I'm 62 and I want to remain vibrant and relevant. Thank you!
Wear what makes you feel good, don't follow rules that are designed to repress women just because of their age.
@@vixen4905 What rules are those that are designed to repress women because of their age? I haven’t seen any of those!
@@ranns2805 it isn't my responsibility to relieve your ignorance. Being unaware of societal expectations and pressures is not something about which one should boast. There's a comment below from this repressed woman about how you should use a gloss topper on matte lipsticks - how about you wear matte lipsticks if you like them? There's a starter for you. It's this insidious drip of small rules that are made to make women feel as if they have to conform, when in reality they can do and wear anything they like. You aren't clever for thinking they don't exist. Every article that suggests 'Flattering shapes for over 50s', or whatever, is trying to oppress women. I'll still be going out in a corset and 6" heels thanks, because I love my clothes and love the enormously positive reactions I get. You can pretend all you like, maybe you're immune to it, but please keep your pathetic comments to yourself.
Not sure I fully understand all of these comments but let’s be kind to one another. It’s not like society, especially the male-dominated side of it, is going to be kind to us older gals. And, although there may not be specific rules that oppress older women, societal values & expectations that have persisted for centuries certainly do. We are all free to live as we please and need to understand that our appearance is not what will keep us relevant in the mind of younger people. Our minds, our originality, and adaptability in the sense of keeping up with technology & evolving social norms is what keeps us relevant!
@@vixen4905 😮 Kindness and lifting each other up is preferable to being harsh and critical. I’m sorry you were triggered by the word repress, but I don’t believe the op meant any harm. We are all here to enjoy the video, so let’s go back to doing that. 🎬
I really appreciate someone like you that does videos for more mature women!
You're absolutely right! I pretty much stopped wearing makeup around my mid 30's. Maybe a bit of powder & some mascara, but that was it. So now some years later, I've actually forgotten how to wear makeup & tbh, I've gone so long without it, I wasn't sure where to start. I didn't want to suddenly look like an older woman trying to look like a 20 year old. So I appreciate you saying that older women don't wear enough. You might be the only RUclipsr saying that. Thank you x
Hannah thank you I could not have explained it better. I have done and feel everything you described here. I was and am embarrassed to admit this for fear of someone telling me its age. Thank you
You have described me to a "T"
And now that ULTA IS IN TARGET....🤣.. I'm in trouble!!
You are fabulous! Listening to you is a masterclass and you demonstrate and explain without sounding pedantic. Very refreshing to see a REAL untouched “mature” face rather than the plethora of beauty “competitors” who are botoxed up and have had facelifts on social media 🙏🏽👏🏼
🍁 thank you! 💕💕💕🍁🍂🍁🍂
I agree . To watch someone real and not filtered.💕💕
I turned 50 last fall and, even if I have inherited my mom's awesome genes (for beautiful face), I fall under the "too much work for putting on makeup" category and rarely put on. Big mistake! I gave birth to my only daughter when I was 41 years old & they ask me if she's my granddaughter!! 😩 Ouch! I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE this video!! THANK YOU, LISA!!!!! ❤❤❤❤❤ I have to agree with Heather: Straight to the point, super useful points, affordable makeup... Thrilled to have subscribed to your channel. VERY helpful!!
@@hurstjames6199 Doing very well, thank God. How about you?
I wish we could post before & after pictures so women can see for themselves the veracity of your suggestions. There is 1 comment you made, Lisa, about the time it usually takes to put makeup on. I was actually mentally making a bet with you that it took longer than 15-20 minutes. Much to my shock, you would have won the bet... twice now. No, I don't curl my lashes (yet) but I do everything else. Average time is 17 minutes. People have told me I look like I'm in my 40's!! 🥰🥰🥰
Just discovered you here and while I don’t pay much attention at all to makeup tutorials and tend to just experiment to find what works for me, your very clear, down to earth and welcoming manner of speaking drew me in. You look fabulous and remind a bit of young Linda Ronstadt. You’re inspiring me to pay more attention to things like concealer, setting powder, makeup brushes (just got a few for the first time in my life last year, and I’m 68😂), etc. Thanks for being real…🥰💫🌻
What a refreshing change from the “other” over 50 channels.
Thank you Laurie-Ann 🥰🥰🍂🍁🍂🍁
Okay. I'll mention your hair. It's beautiful! Not a split end in sight and I love the style! I feel the condition of the hair, along with the right hairstyle, pulls everything together. If I'm having a bad hair day, even though my makeup looks good, I just don't feel put together or as confident as I could be. Informative video from a very pretty lady! 👍
Thank you so much 💕💕🍁🍂🍁🌸
Yes, please make a video on easy hair style/care tips for older women! I’ve been afraid of bangs most of my life but I think they might help with my receding hairline. They look great on you!
I wholeheartedly agree with TDGarden inasmuch as I don't feel good about myself if I'm having a bad hair day. I have always considered hair an important, integral part of my overall appearance.
I just came across your channel and I love the instructions for mature skin. I went to Elizabeth Grady make up school in the 80’s but now that I’m older I’ve lost knowledge of proper application for aging faces. I did learn a couple new things. Glad I’m not as far behind as I thought. I love makeup and will be viewing all your videos. Thank you for helping us
I really enjoyed this video. I’m 65 and just completed a cycle of chemo - the “big” drug that caused all of my hair (head, brows, lashes and body) to depart. Can’t wait for hair to return to try these techniques. I’m currently drawing my brows on and gluing lashes one. Some days I am the “ what not to do” picture😂.
give yourself some grace....as long as you're still living and breathing , you can't possibly be the "what not to do picture"! However you decide to style yourself during this phase of your life, to feel good in your skin is just perfect
Well I’m 55 and going by your tips , I’m right on point and wear my makeup gorgeously! I get compliments ALL the time with younger women not believing I’m 55 and that my makeup looks gorgeous! Makes me feel so good!!!
I gave up makeup a long time ago. I just turned 58, I feel a good moisturizer, an SPF lip balm and/or color is all one really needs. Makeup goes bad so quickly, if you don't replace it as recommended, it gets very costly.
I don't know about everyone else, but, nope, I can't afford that. I have been married 30+ years, and
He's not complaining. I have a Huge problem with the fundamental
necessity of it all. I have felt that way since my college days in my 20's. I'm not criticizing people who want or feel they need makeup, I just don't feel I do, and don't really care what others might think about that. Everyone is beautiful in their own way. 😘
Best damn over-50 makeup tutorial I've ever seen on RUclips. Excellent explanations for everything with zero percent condescension. Love it! 🤎
Keep lower lashes free of liner. Liner ages!
Thank you for posting this video. I’ve been going through something - not sure what - but feeling like I’ve suddenly aged a lot, stressful life situation and also wondering if I’m experiencing a very early menopause. And been watching so many tutorials for mature women and none work for me, yet I feel I look “mature” now and need help! I was in tears when I found this, but this one is so straightforward, you are proof that this look actually works and you look way under 50. So I feel that this will assist me in my current, more youthful needs. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
Thank you so much for making a video like this. I couldn't agree with you more. I see so many women over 50, they're just beautiful but they're not quite correcting the right parts of their makeup. Over 50 skin is usually discolored and I think foundation really goes a long way, but a lot of women over 50 just aren't putting it on. It really makes a difference while letting their natural beauty shine through
Excellent video Lisa! Would like to see you do a video on applying eye makeup on mature women who wear eye glasses.
Thank you.
You know, my dear friend in the pics wears glasses and I meant to put her photo with glasses on so you could see how well it looked, but I forgot🥺. That’s a great video suggestion though and I’ll add to my list!
I would also love to see a video on eye makeup for glasses. This is a great video. I have all these issues and I’m only 36, but I also have a lot of grey hair, so..thank you for this great video. I like the way you apply the makeup. It looks way more natural than anything I can find for my age range.
@RitaFazzino that's a great comment do a makeup video for those of us who wear glasses
You’re a beautiful. Something I may add as a former MUA who has worked with mature women… 1. SHAVE the face! Lol get those fuzzies. 2. Do a plumping BALM, not a gloss that really makes creases obvious. Buxom has a good one. 3. If you must bottom line (even tho it pulls the eye down)… use a soft color, like a neutral eyeshadow instead of a stark liner. Also, Adding little lash wispiness lashes on top corner can give a more lifted effect.
Thanks for the tips! 🍁🍂🍁🍂
Yes.....Shave the peach fuzz today ladies!
Shaving will make regrowth coarser and more obvious.
@@poppytwist6631 I have not found that to be true for me. My facial hair is light in color - perhaps those with darker facial growth need to shave a little more often - not everyday though! LOL!
VonneWilliams. I am noticing some peach fuzz on my face.U mentioned shaving? If I do that wont the hair grow back thicker?
Just when I thought there was no more to learn... I really enjoyed picking up some great tips, like the under eyeliner... & blending better!! Thanks Lisa!
It's not often that I watch an entire video tutorial on make-up, but I found you so easy to listen to, and the advice so useful to me, thank you.
Once upon a time, I had long, thick lashes, and naturally shapely brows, that didn't need much doing to look great. Sadly, ongoing cancer treatment, and age - mid-60s - has left me with thin lashes and brows, that have also gone very fair. My hair was chestnut, and is now white-blonde naturally, no dye required. As a result of the colour and texture changes, my makeup routine has become practically non existent; also I'm now a pensioner (such an ageing word) and the pricey brands are out of my reach, so it's really refreshing to see you advocating the high street brands. It's time to overhaul my stash, and try out the advice given so beautifully.
I’m sorry you have been through so much! 🥺💕💕 I do enjoy a mix of drugstore, mid range and luxury brands and try to include different options in my videos 😘😘😘
@@LisaMonique Thank you x
I just found your channel and I love it! I'm 53 and very serious about skin care and love makeup. Really great tips, especially the blush placement for older ladies. Thank you!
I love your tips. One thing I'd like to add...it helps to stay away from the more vivid eyeshadow colors we wore when we were younger. Our skin tone changes over time, and the bright plums and purples I wore in my thirties don't look good on my 50-something skin anymore. I see women still wearing the same colors they've worn for decades and it doesn't look good on their skin. I found out that the right shade of browns makes my grey eyes look blue, and makes my skin look warm and healthy. I wear other colors besides the browns, but still careful to choose colors to flatter my skin tone. I use black-brown mascara and eyeliner instead of cool black because it's more flattering to my skin, too, it seems to tone down the imperfections around my eyes....less harsh of a color.
Yes
I'm very pale with white grey hair, blue eyes and I've found wearing wine coloured mascara and liner seems to work better and not look so harsh. Difficult to find, but worth the effort. Even light colours for shadows look very dark on me. I've just started wearing eye make up again, and am definitely going to follow these tips.
I remember that blue eyeshadow back when and I still see some women wearing it?
I like the brownish black, too, but it is rather hard to find.
Very true, any age can wear color, and as skin thins our undertones can change. I always tell my clients not to forget colors that match your eyes, the focus is always on using complimentary colors. Complimentary color can bring out the primary or secondary iris color, but matching shades can make your eyes look much bigger. I figured this out doing Halloween makeup, people kept asking me where I got my contacts, they really didn’t look real. The trick to this is recognizing subtlety to get the perfect shade. I also have grey eyes, and steel grey and soft black works beautifully. I’ve gotten them to look purple using a mix of green and violet, there’s so much you can play with. I’m pretty boring most days, buts it so fun to play with colors, tones and shades. I still love color in my mid forties, and don’t forget it washes off if you don’t like it, it’s just makeup! A great trick is to try new looks before you shower or wash your face. There’s no pressure, no one will see it. You have two eyes, try diffusing variations on each and double your experiment.😊
I love the colors you choose for your skin tone and your hair and eye color. What you described here is exactly what I love to do as well, when I do wear makeup. I found myself not wearing make up for some long time now since I no longer am working in the public eye any longer, but every now and then I do LOVE to wear it, since I was raised to love makeup (my mother worked as a beautician since before she was pregnant with me even, and so I was raised in a beauty shop, so I just naturally Love things like fixing hair and putting on makeup. Thanks for sharing these tips, they were pretty much spot on and perfectly described. Stay safe everyone!
I’ve never seen your channel before, but I’m ecstatic that I found you by chance. First of all, you’re gorgeous. Second, you not only address makeup mistakes I need to fix, you recommend specific makeup brands for each piece of advice you give. I’m definitely going to subscribe. Thank you!
I’m so glad you found me!! Thank you for being here 💕💕💕
Same here.
Thank you so very much for being who you are! The “ mature makeup community “ is less than transparent. They use filters , have procedures and fillers ( there’s nothing wrong with that) and have been using Retina-A for 30+ years. Aging is natural and we should not be shamed because of it.
Absolutely!! 🌸 🌸 🌸
I’ve had no fillers or any type of procedure - but Retin-A has been a game changer in making my skin smoother and much more youthful looking. It’s not that pricey, because since I’ve started using it, I’ve been able to eliminate so many other products.
It’s called taking care of yourself.
I was an avid tretinoin (Retin A) user until last spring because I started spending so much time in the sun. I do use when in AZ because I'm usually inside more.
@@LisaMonique yes, wise to not use it when you go in the sun….I must say, though…if you really want to look youthful for as long as possible, the sun is your biggest enemy.
So practical, so clear, finally some rationale with the techniques, Love it, thank you!
Thank you so much for the helpful tips. I have never been a big makeup person, but feel that I need it more now than ever. I appreciate the tip on prepping the skin and how important that is. I look forward to trying a few of the products you recommended. Thank you again!
I agree about eyeliner on the bottom lid. I feel weird without it. Blending it makes it look better and liner makes me look more awake. I’m bad about using mascara but will try to remind myself. This is great info!
Wow! A channel dedicated to the Fabulous 50’s! I’m so excited! First time here, enjoyed the video, & looking forward to seeing more.
I am 73 and still learning 😬 I want to thank you for not using the "blurring filters" on your youtube videos. I don't understand why anyone trying to help people with their skin issues would do that, but many are more concerned in making money I suppose.
Sure hope you continue doing these videos Lisa... You give wonderful information and demonstrations ❤️❤️
Thank you so much Karen!!! 🍂🍁🍂🍁
Agree!! Once the filters enter in, I'm done. These videos are helpful because they are natural, real!
I AGREE ENTIRELY WITH WHAT YOU ARE SAYING.
"73 & still learning"
I'm 43 & people like you are my role models :) Keep on learning!
What there is no way you are 73, You need to share some secrets please
As a newly menopausal mature woman, it's not that I'm not used to wearing make-up or lacking in confidence, but that my skin has changed beyond recognition and I have no idea how to adapt my skincare and makeup routine to my new complexion!
That is true!!! For many, the skin gets much drier, so the using moisturizer as primer can be a big help. Gentle exfoliation and heavier night cream (and niacinimide) can help with texture too! 🌸
I went through the same thing. If you haven't done so you might want to have your thyroid and adrenal levels checked - I did and everything improved when I started supplements.
Amen sister!!! Been wearing make up since the 80's and trust me it ain't a lack of confidence or knowledge. It's a lack orf appropriate finishes and colors. Try finding an eyeshadow with no shimmer in it...and if you do it is light colors with a chalky finish. Companies have tried to produce makeup for older skin but it just doesn't sell. I think l'Oreal and Cover Girl had lines for older skin but they went away.
@@ragathnor326 Same. I find most matte eye shadows emphasize the dryness. I've found a happy medium though. I use powder highlighter or satin finish eye shadow. These don't draw attention to the crepe-iness of my eyelids the way more shimmery eye shadows do. My go-to one-and-done eye shadow is Pure Anada's Ethereal Highlight (I'm pretty fair skinned, so the shade works for me.)
@@allisonkirkland4720 good idea. I will find this stuff. Thanks!!
great information! just discovered you-straight forward, honest and helpful. You have the knowledge and background to help us "experienced" ladies! I like the fact that you use your fingers with some of your makeup application. I want to look good without taking multiple steps to get there..Look forward to watching more of your content :)
👏👏👏. Love this! So easy and natural looking!
Thanks for all these great helpful tips. I definitely need more confidence & practice buffing and blending.
Thank you so much for being here for us !
You are so welcome Lena!! Yes, you have to practice practice practice to really see what works for you best! Thank you so much for watching!!
This was brilliant. Everything was just right. I love wearing makeup and not afraid to wear it and I’ve got my technique down, but at 71 I see some tweaks I needed. I so agree with what you said about underlining the eyes. I will always do that.. but that blurring it better was what I really need to do better. And I just added concealer on my lids, big improvement. I recently started moisturizering much more and that made a big difference. I ALWAYS use spf first or if it’s in the moisturizer. Your tips were very helpful. Thank you. You do look great, young and pretty. Staying trim, and active, wearing flattering clothes, using makeup to accent your features gives you confidence and a good feeling. And a smile makes a pretty face.❤️
Thank you, I am a woman who has never worn much makeup, but find I need it more now. I said that once in a comment section and was, of course, told I need less. When I was younger I never wore foundation, I mostly just wore eye makeup. You are the first person to mention redness all around the eye, which is what I have. I have a little on my chin too. It was nice to see the tip about using concealer in that zone even without foundation. I have been using concealer with a VERY light covering of foundation and have been nervous about how to do it right. Your video has helped, Thank you. For my lips, I use a mauve lip liner and blend with chapstick.
I have very blonde brows and have been lightly adding a blonde pencil upstrokes. I'm sure I'm not putting enough on. I tell my daughter I just want them to be somewhat visible at least and give some lift to my face, but as you can tell I'm not confident about it. Maybe you could do the makeup of one of your friends with blonde eyebrows for us. I would appreciate it.
I would try a taupe pencil. You don't have to fill in with that, but just a few light strokes to give you some shape.
@@LisaMonique Thanks! I will try that :)
Thank you for such doable tips! I’ve worn makeup since my teens & find now in my fifties what worked when younger needs tweaking. Thanks so much too for the product recommendations.
Also, I'm really glad I came across your video/channel. I've been wanting to find someone who I can relate to. I love watching younger beauty RUclipsrs, don't get me wrong. It's just that my skin has changed and the products they recommend usually don't work on me the same as before.
This is such a great video idea and so helpful. So many people I hear take the position that mature women wear too much makeup and do it wrong. Your approach rings so true. Too many of us seem to give up on looking beautiful as the years go by. Thanks for these excellent tips.
I’m so glad you found it helpful. I’ve always thought “mistake” videos got it wrong too ! Have a wonderful dat 🍂🍁🍂🍁💕💕💕
Just found this video in my feed and glad I watched it. Like other commenters, some videos for the over 50 crowd just take too much time, too much professional know how and cost. I've struggled with concealers and how to even out my skin tone at 70. I've made some progress through trial and error but you're suggestions really helped. Straight forward, so background music and easy enough to do on a daily basis if you wanted.
Hi there from the UK! Just found your channel, only watched this video and I’m hooked, will be binging the rest lol. I’m early 50s and never worn much make up, but feeling I definitely need a refresh, so this video is perfect thank you so much for sharing :)
I stopped wearing makeup after my
Mastectomy. I guess since my body no longer looked feminine I felt like makeup just emphasized my flat chest and made me feel like a phony. I haven’t watched a makeup video in a decade or more. Tomorrow I’m going to open my makeup drawers and anything that’s still useable I will put to good use. Thank you for your honest, down to earth attitude. I didn’t sense any condescension which is unusual on YT.
Have fun playing!!!! 💕💕💕💕💕
I know what you mean about feeling like q phony wearing makeup. Kinda strange. Hope you are well.
I too stopped wearing make-up lack of confidence in applying it, sculpting, etc geez just when I thought I could get it something new comes on board and I'm totally confused all over again! You are very helpful and are keeping it real, thank you, great work!
I am way over 50 and happy to know that I actually use some of these tips. I really appreciate the guided instructions for using the eyelash curler. I struggle with one side, which never seems to curl properly. I will be using your extra tips for curling immediately. After watching, I will now be purchasing the lash serum and try a thickening mascara and update my use of concealers. Excellent video! Thank you.
Those tips were so helpful Lisa. I am a new subscriber and look forward to more content like this.
I'm a new fan! Just answered so many struggles I've had trying to figure out on my own. You're a great advisor, you don't talk like a know it all. I appreciate you!
Finally some good advice on how to hide the redness. Never thought about using a concealer over those areas. I will be giving this a try. Very informative, thank you.
I just found your channel and it’s GREAT! I hit “subscribe” right away. I love the makeup tips for us over 50 ladies. I’ve worn makeup since I was a teenager but I always learn something new I could do differently. Thank you for your content!!
Awesome! Thank you so much for watching and subscribing!! 💕
Ladies, for those who hate taking their makeup off or hate mascara smudging: USE TUBING MASCARA. It WILL NOT smudge and you simply hold a warm water soaked cotton pad to your eye for 20 seconds or splash with water and the tubes crumble off. My faves are L'oreal Beauty Tubes Double Extend and Thrive. And if you just HAVE to have that crazy thick volume, Maybelline Sky High is kind of a hybrid of easy to wash off and tubing formula, and CHEAP. YOU'RE WELCOME!
Absolutely! Trish McEvoy makes great ones!
Thank you
All of my tubes were sitting under my eyes by the time I even left the bathroom. That was the Loreal brand. Tried so my brands haven't found one yet that doesn't flake off even with eyelash primer.
@@joannmowery5210 ya, those work great but my eyes feel all that extra stuff flaking. Bare Minerals has a lengthening one which is amazing with my minimal thin lashes!
Blinc is a good one, too. I will try your suggestions to see if I love them more.
Glad I found you. I have been learning makeup technique from very skilled, but very young youtubers and while these folks definitely have put some great tools in my arsenal, I love the focus here.
I love that you talked about just some color correction in the one area instead a full face of foundation, which can be heavy, even some of the best ones, and for some of us girls who are going thru the change, there's those super fun heat flashes, which send a flush of heat and redness over your face. If I have less on, and not a full face of foundation, it keeps the redness away, but also let's my face breathe, which ultimately keeps me cool, especially in the summers in humid Ohio!
Definitely got value from this video! I've been known to go a little heavy on the eyeliner (and shadows in the wrong shades too) I swapped out the shadows for more coppers and peaches, and used a brush on my lower lash line to smudge out the pencil. I can't believe how much fresher and natural I looked! I appreciate all your straight up information and product suggestions, too. I happen to be a big fan of E.L.F. (-:
Great! that’s just how I’ve done my makeup for the past five years and I love it... it looks very natural and takes ten years off my face! 😚
I'm relieved that I'm actually doing the right things with my makeup! Need to figure out accentuating my brows, though. Thanks Lisa!
Excellent video. Just the encouragement alone goes a long way.
I would be interested in seeing a video for eyeglass wearers as well. That is most definitely my biggest hurdle.
Keep up the great content!
An awesome eyelid primer for covering discoloration is Ulta’s matte eye primer. It smooths the eyelid and has just enough of a tint to make the skin look totally even and bright. Another tip i think is great is to not wear black eyeliner! There are so many gorgeous colors of eyeliner out there now that you can easily get defined eyes while not weighing them down with stark black. I love a dark bronzy brown. It’s so much prettier and more natural looking than a heavy black ring around the eyes.
Thanks for the recommendation!! 💕💕💕

I'm from the UK and I've just celebrated my 60th birthday and I shall definitely be subscribing 🥰
Thank you for the terrific and helpful ideas with the product suggestions!
Thank you Lisa! Very helpful reminders.
I'm really getting up there and have never used makeup in my entire life. I recall having to suffer through lipstick for my senior picture in high school. I won a makeup session with some high fashion person in NY City and removed it all as soon as I got home. People say I look 20 years younger than my age. Eating right, staying fit and not constantly putting on and taking off makeup are my beauty tips.
Here’s my tip: If you don’t like makeup, don’t watch makeup videos.
I agree. I’m 61 and look much older with a full face of makeup. I’d rather spend money on good skincare.
@@st.albans4997 who said anything about a full face of makeup ? Post this on one of those channels which advocate it.
@@KaraLey98 I feel like you’re a bit angry over my comment, but I appreciate your response just the same. I stumbled on the page but realize it isn’t for me. Have a great weekend.
I'm 55, and I thought I had totally forgotten how to wear make-up! Thank you so much for your tips. With the notes I took, I'll "give a hoot" enough to get back on the make-up wagon again. Thank you so much!
This video was exactly what I needed and I loved it ty! Good tips for 50+ who doesn’t want to wear a lot of makeup but is a professional.
Excellent video. Something to think about ... I've always had a problem getting the right eyebrow color. It's between a taupe and brown. To make matters worse, because of age and illness, they're almost gone.
But I finally found my gold. I found an eyeshadow color the exact color that's perfect for me & the few hairs left and apply it with a small angled brush.
As you mentioned, I do sweep up a little and it looks as close to real eyebrows than anything else. And it stays on much better than pencils.
💞
I love your tips here & you look fabulous!
Since my late 40’s, I became much more conscientious about using good products on my skin that don’t have harmful ingredients. I am not sure about the products you mentioned, but I will do some research & can still use your application tips if I need to find alternative products. Thanks! 😊
I always have had thin brows, and if I were to try the 'trends' in my brows I would look like I had two mustaches above my eyes. 🤣
😂😂😂
I’ve got some friends that do and I don’t have the heart to tell them!
You are so well-spoken and informed- NO FILLER !!! thanks for sharing your knowledge and skill with efficiently, and with class.
I agree with you; it doesn't matter whether or not something is "trendy" or "in style". If it does not flatter or become you, it's not right for *you*. My mother was an expert when it came to applying make-up on her face. She was fair with ash-blonde hair over premature white. Her mantra was "less is more". In her case (and mine) that was so true. I think natural brunettes like you have much more leeway when it comes to make-up. Brava! 🥰
Really enjoyed thank you. Definitely making mistakes, I am looking forward to correcting them. I'm 65 and going to invest some time in myself for a change. I've the time now. New sub.
You can do it! Its nice to have time for yourself 💕 💕 💕 💕
Lisa, thank you for both this video and sharing what your skin is like in the comments.
I've always taken a minimalist approach to makeup. I was lucky that, for a long time, other than being very dark under the eye, I had the skin of a porcelain bisque doll. Even the scarring from a car accident wasn't readily apparent. Then came perimenopause, and now menopause. Along with it came huge pores, hyperpigmentation (despite wearing heavy duty sun block), dry sagging skin, intermittent rosacea, wrinkles, blackheads (thank goodness I found micellar water, which has proven amazing for dealing with blackheads), and shrinking lips. I've been at a loss as to how to look put together, without looking overly made up or having to redo my makeup repeatedly through the day. Plus, the products and techniques I've used forever don't work anymore. (I'm looking at you liquid eyeline that looks harsh and stutters across crepe-y skin now.) Makeup has, to some degree, become more important to me working from during COVID. Spending so much time on camera, the face is what people see and focus on.
All the videos I've looked at, that others have done for mature skin, tend to either skew to heavy makeup, or to the minimalist routine I've always used and isn't working for me anymore. I don't feel the need to look younger. I just want to look polished, professional, and still look like me. I look forward to checking out your other videos.
Thank you Allison. I agree our skin needs have changed! I think I used the same 5 products all through my 30s and early 40s, and now they don't meet my needs anymore!!!
wow, surely all that can't be a result of menopause. Usually pores become enlarged because of the exposure to the sun which destroys collagen and allows the pores to sag open because the collagen cannot keep them closed when it has been depleted and destroyed by the Sun.
OMG, that's how it is for me with exception of not being in menopause yet. It's clearly getting closer though. Ugh. I 100% agree with you about not needing to look younger. I don't mind getting older, except all the new skin problems, I want to look better.
Thanks for all the great tips Lisa. Really great information to know. 🥰
Thank you Lisa. Your blush placement is definately a takeaway for me. Tried it, loved it. 🇦🇺👍🙂
This was the best video of mistakes we women do when it comes to makeup!

Great video. I’m 39 but starting to have some aging happening in my face. I love makeup and can still get away with some things, but not others. I love the concealer all around and on the eyes idea. I’ve only been wearing shadow primer and start my foundation under my eyes. It’s not working for me anymore 😂. So helpful!!
I stumbled upon this video and I'm so glad! These tips are perfect! Thank you!
Thank you, thank you! Your podcast just happened to pop up on my phone this am, and it was very helpful. I'm (almost) 61, have always worn makeup (since 15), and still love it. But, I've learned over the past 10 years I need to constantly tweek my application and products due to neverending skin changes. I'll continue to seek your assistance on 'how to', and appreciate the product suggestions.
Great tips, going to use these with my parents for their holiday portraits
Loved this. I thought I knew it all! Just applied makeup as you instructed- you’ve changed my life! Thank You 🙏
That is so sweet!! Thanks for watching!💕💕💕
Thanks for the eye primer recommendation. I have really crepey lids now and also live in Florida so from April to October it seems like everything melts right into those creases and makes them stand out more.
I absolutely agree about the mascara. For my whole makeup wearing life, even if I don't put on anything else I've always worn mascara. I have long lashes and they're still pretty thick but they're light brown so you can't even see them if I don't wear something. I've spent over 30 years looking for that perfect mascara- one that isn't globby as soon as you pull ypthe brush out and that doesn't leave a bunch on your lashes to automatically smear all over. And preferably waterproof. In one of my Ipsy packages I got Tarte Lights Camera Lashes and out of the probably hundreds I've tried over the years, this is probably the best. It goes on easy and stays on, doesn't flake or end up under my eyes. My only issue is the packaging- the tube is in this leatherette type casing that has a wide flat seam all the way around longways. Makes it impossible to twist the brush as you apply it. I ended up dropping it down my face and blouse. Now it just takes a bit more care and time but I'd still prefer that stupid case be gone. I haven't tried the waterproof version yet but this one is smudge proof and it works fairly well unless I'm going to be sweating a lot or swimming.
I just put down my Rephr curler when you started talking about it, looooove it!
