Hey everyone! Great video! I been playing AC since the old days and loving all the new people in the comments coming to the series right now and enjoying the games! FromSoft has been making these mecha games forever, they know exactly what they're doing, and AC6 is the next masterpiece in line.
Thanks for the guide, i always quick turned by accident and i cant stress how many times i died in order matches cause my aim got thrown off, knowing how to do it might save me. Only thing i did with my controls was roll with Regular-B but swap boosting and quick boost with the weapon controls (QB and Boosting on the RB and LB, weapons on RT and LT) swap right weapon selection to B and shoulder weapons to A, to make it a bit more in-line with what i rock in Silent Line (first AC game i played, FA is the second), and it's way better imo
You can’t second stage unless your boost is on triggers. You should really just use regular b as by changing it you’ve cut a mechanic out of the game lol
Not the Regular-A slander; I'm in shambles, using a control scheme that doesn't exist. I will also continue to do so, it hasn't failed me since release, and won't fail me now.
@@invyt Listen; when the only AC you have is LR on a PSP, you get really used to a claw grip. I've played with some very jank control styles for longer than I'd like to admit.
A good video. Its nice to see someone actually explain how quick turning and second staging works for once, instead of just assuming everyone already knows. But I would be wary of recommending auto sighting for everyone. Its not as perfect as you make it sound. In missions, you'll mostly just end up fighting against it, because it can cause huge problems when you have more than one target in view. I ended up turning it off very quickly when I first played AC4A, because all it ever did was force turn me towards an enemy I didn't want to aim at. Its more likely to lock onto the random MT in the corner of your screen, than the AC that's actually going to kill you. And even without it, I have never felt like its too hard to keep your target in view. I always thought auto sight was intended as a workaround for people that play with the A type controls, since then you always need your thumb on X and A instead of the right stick, or you can't shoot. And since type B controls actually make sense, it makes auto sighting unnecessary. Plus, I just plain find the game more fun without it. There is already so much auto aiming happening, having it actually turn your whole AC for you just feels like its taking too much control away from the player.
This video is mostly from the perspective of PvP, so auto sight locking on to the wrong enemy isn’t usually an issue. You can just look left/right to select your auto sight target if it becomes an issue, or press triangle to cycle between locked targets. Auto sight is indeed not perfect, but it is more than enough to keep any enemy in the game on screen and most players within your lockbox (assuming you build your ac right).
Amazing guide! As an AC6 baby I'm still struggling massively with the controls alone and I hate them, however, I also have to acknowledge the amazing degree of control it gives you with things like pressure sensitivity etc. Again, amazing guide! Really explains some of the worse quirks and hidden nuances. I am sick and tired of "mainstream" (view farms for popular games) guides that just revolve around exploiting common meta playstyles or outright cheese (*cough* Malenia ez pz bleed cheese *cough*) but explain nothing of substance so it's nice to know that you can count on the FromSoft OGs to deliver quality explanations!
I was used to ac6 controls so it was a bit difficult to me play this game but then i just switch the controls to ac6 similar controls. I will try to put just the type b controls😅 Awesome video btw, thanks
@@invyt yeah, i noticed but with your help i start today with the type b controls and its pretty good, of course im still learning this controls but now i can make quick turn, with the ac6 controls was impossible beacuse i need to press square to quick boost😅
Are you telling me that I beat the Old King ending on hard without auto lock which would've made my gameplay so much easier all this time? [Facepalms.]
I am new new to this series. My first playthrough got me to white glint and rank 25/red fox. I cannot exaggerate when I say I feel like a side character because I have no clue how to fight these bosses, with some of what I have thankfully learned from this one video. I hope to do better or win. Though, I have 0 clue if my build is adequate for it either.
Finished 6 and have been having trouble moving well in FA and just turned into a missile spamming tank, and I still cant keep track of the faster moving mechs. I now see my first major mistakes was using Simple control scheme and leaving auto boost on lol. Also not including Quick Turn in the tutorial and making so moving the right stick breaks lock on is evil, I really wish I knew about auto sighting and quick turning earlier. This advice should make playing the game more fun for the ORCA and Old King Playthroughs.
Well I beat the whole three ending without even knowing that quick turning existed. Because of that, Occupation of Arteria Carpals is so hard even in normal mode. But somehow pulled through, im going to learn this mechanic. Going to S-Rank every mission
Yeah I doubt it will play like for answer - this video is aimed to replace the terrible tutorial in For Answer though so it’s mainly for people actively playing that game rather than people looking for content on 6
Auto-boost doesn’t seem to keep it on at all times, I read that it just does it over water or when landing hard, but it ABSOLUTELY does not leave boost on permanently on land.
Something to note, in AC4 you need to click the left stick before the lock on will work properly. Once you click left stick and you see the little box with the enemy in it up in the top left, the lock on will work like it says in the video.
So weird i didn't know about perfect boosting but I always feathered the boost and knew this was the effect. Very weird. Very cool. I'd also had about 1000 hours in the game back in the day lmao
Loved the video, I liked and subscribed. Quick question: for Regular-B are you using the index fingers on the bumpers and middle fingers on the triggers? Seems to be the most sensible way to navigate and attack at the same time.
Just started playing acfa and killed white glint without knowing how to quick turn and autosight on... Took few tries tho.. but damn this could've been useful info.
I know this is an older video but what are your thoughts on (reg 1.00 / non-infinite EN regs) infinite flight builds? My AC build of choice has always been one that can hover while regenerating energy and will never fall out of the sky unless I overdo it while quickboosting. I've never played online before and haven't really looked at "optimal builds" so I have no idea what the community has agreed upon in terms of the most effective build choices and where compromises/cuts have to be made.
@ I figured that was the case. I think it’s really cool when a decade-plus-old game has no defined meta; the creativity I’ve seen in videos of online matches is astounding! I’m thinking of getting an emulator setup so I can play online soon.
@ I actually just watched that 5 minutes ago funnily enough. I tried doing it last year on Xenia (my first mistake) before getting it on hardware. I’ll be setting it up tomorrow and hopping into the fray!
I really hope AC6 has Resident Evil quick turn controls, like you hold back and press boost. I just hope that's the case because I'll actually be able to get to grips with this. I can't train myself to stop moving in this game for anything.
One thing that i'm noticing. at least on an emulated version (my 360 video output is borked i think) turning to regular b just completely disabled auto boost regardless of if it was enabled in settings or not. but resumed working on simple controls. (running xenia emulator cause it's what was recommended when i looked) just a strange thing i noted. good video otherwise. i knew the game had quick turn but i didn't remember how to do it. and that's the first i'm learning of second staging. what a interesting thing to have!
I'd love to test that further with you - if that is true then I'd be happy to make a video on how to avoid it and credit you as the source and/or plug your channel. Ping me on discord @ inveigh
@@invyt I don't play anymore. I don't even know if I have my xbox anymore, but if you run into that issue on a particular AC you can stabilize it for 0,0 when you purge to that weapon combination then just load on the other weapons. I liked auto purge. I used to do this combo with the last shot of my rail gun with a pocket blade underneath. Fire the last shot up close and without letting off the button it would go into a blade lunge and I'd assault armor at the same time. If it all hits its absolutely devastating.

The auto sighting works different in AC4 - you need to click in on the left stick to get a full lock on in that game. Otherwise, I think everything here still applies. Admittedly I don’t play much 4.
I know you said no custom control schemes but tbh anyone who wants to should give this one a try, start with regular b, swap binds for L3 and R3, use Y to switch right weapon and X for left, left trigger for boost with the left bumper for quick boost, shoulder weapons on A and overed boost on B. Right weapon to right trigger and left weapon to right bumper. I’ve played around with all the control schemes plus multiple custom ones in multiple ac games (6, 4 and 4A) and this is by far the one that gives me the most precise control of my next by miles. And it’s not cuz of a of muscle memory from a game in the past I just made it a couple days ago and it instantly made me feel like my ac was practically reading my thoughts
with the pace of ACfA PvP I doubt turning it off would even be close to helpful since you can still easily loose that hard-ish lock you can handicap yourself and go AC "classic" but thats just that
Quick turn doesn't seem to work for me for some reason, but I might just suck lmao. I remember it being easier than this as a small child on their ps3. EDIT: **The starter NEXT was overloaded lmfao i was literally fat rolling**

@@invyt Binging your videos got me halfway back to the zone after over a decade. I challenged myself to get back into this crazy game, and you challenged me to hit a second stage. I figured I'd drop a comment about second staging, because I remembered the "trick" that by no means makes it easy to do, but makes it do-able; Step 1: Find the threshold on your QB trigger. Get comfy with it. Step 2: Rest your trigger just before the QB threshold. In this state, you're charging a second stage; holding for just shy of a full second gives you a max power SSQB, but you can be faster about "charging" them with little penalty. The key here is the "charging" part. Step 3: Pull the trigger all the way and watch your AC fly. Step 4: *now chain them.* (the tricky part) Step 5: *now do it while fighting a NEXT* (the hard part) It takes so much focus in combat to do lol. I remember why I loved this fucking game now. No other mech game out there feels this much like dogfighting while also absolutely feeling like a mech game. Thank you for the tutorials man!

Shoot me a DM on discord sometime @ inveigh and we can play some games
My take on autosight: If you want to sweat, learn how to play WITHOUT autosight before playing WITH it. I don't mean this as skill gatekeeping, I mean that you will play better WITH autosight if you know how to visually track the target with your eyes WITHOUT it, and having the experience also means you will have more than the requisite gameplay skill to react appropriately when you have to manually turn. It's a nice function but it's entirely possible to just "get gud" and do it manually. It's not the easiest thing in the world but it's well within the human capacity.
I disagree. Playing with and without auto sight are basically entirely different skill sets, playing without it will not build good habits for playing with it.
I mean it's great but new players probably won't be able to manage EN well enough to actively use it, so I'm hard pressed to recommend it outside of builds that rely on PA

Instead of imagining, try playing the game. It takes a second to learn but it is the only control scheme where you can move aim and shoot at the same time while still having both boost buttons on pressure sensitive triggers.
@@invyt imagine having to switch between three weapon groups to use them one at a time, effectively wasting all the face buttons just so you can stick all the important functions on the most unintuitive combos of the triggers and shoulder buttons imaginable
@@purpleboye_ What are you even talking about..? If you put the shoot buttons on the face then you would not be able to shoot and aim at the same time without a claw grip of some type. And.. what do you mean three weapon groups? You have a total of four weapons and two of those can be active at any given time. Your shoulders, which are usually flares, can be activated at any time. Instead of typing all this out, why don't you just like.... go try it? The game is free, there's a guide on how to set up the emulator on my channel.
@@invyt Notice how ac6 made perfect use of the face buttons without using any of them for shooting. Honestly starting with ac6 may have been a mistake since it looks like the only ac game with good controls.

So you need them on pressure sensitive buttons. Have you like... actually booted up the game and tried it yet? Or are you still just "imagining" things?
@@invyt If I elaborated, that would mean I was serious. I have a better control scheme, but to be fair, it's not objectively better, just subjectively. It's not wildly different from B and my scheme makes assault armor easier, but only slightly. Also consider that my scheme is not on an Xbox controller. It DOES have triggers, however.
I had no idea people still played this game. Just used this vid to tell someone about the movement in this game.
Lots of people still play! The multiplayer scene is quite active, come join the discord!
Not the Regular-A slander; I'm in shambles, using a control scheme that doesn't exist. I will also continue to do so, it hasn't failed me since release, and won't fail me now.
RIP your fingers claw grip will give you arthritis
A makes you dependent on autosighting. It's probably fine for campaign, it faulters heavily vs good players.
@@invyt Listen; when the only AC you have is LR on a PSP, you get really used to a claw grip. I've played with some very jank control styles for longer than I'd like to admit.
@@kronosx7 Prob not wrong; but what can I say; old habits die hard
as a complete shitter who has never played an armored core game, thanks for the advice!
Happy to help! Hope to PvP sometime
I noticed ive been quick turning bt mistake, never knew it took the left stick being in neutral for it to work. Thank you
Heck second staging? Didnt even know this game used the triggers like that at all
Amazing guide!
I don't really consider myself an OG, but thanks!
@@invyt You'll always be one to me sugartits
It's nuts how well advice in old titles transfers over to newer titles. Even the really old titles.
Should have mentioned you can turn auto-turn off and also swap to manual aim in game through pressing the thumbstick.
I forgot haha! It’s mentioned in the description though.
I got recommended your vid.
the thumbnail had me lolling out loud 😆
Lol, the thumbnails are definitely… something… hope the vid helped!
Great video. I wish I'd had this a few years ago, some of the basics took me way too long to figure out.
I hope it helps people get into the game a little easier!
I was used to ac6 controls so it was a bit difficult to me play this game but then i just switch the controls to ac6 similar controls.
I will try to put just the type b controls😅
Awesome video btw, thanks
Unfortunately AC6s control scheme doesn't work very well for this game. Best of luck!
@@invyt yeah, i noticed but with your help i start today with the type b controls and its pretty good, of course im still learning this controls but now i can make quick turn, with the ac6 controls was impossible beacuse i need to press square to quick boost😅
Bro new game informer interview just dropped
I saw! I’ll be uploading an opinion piece on it tomorrow.
Are you telling me that I beat the Old King ending on hard without auto lock which would've made my gameplay so much easier all this time? [Facepalms.]
I hope AC6 still has hidden mechanics like perfect boosting. I haven’t played in 10 years but my muscle member still remembers exactly how to do it 😂
Hop back on! Put that muscle memory to use in some PC PvP!
"Hard lock" haters wants to know your location
I mean it is a Miyazaki thumbprint "technically" IIRC Frame Gride has something similar
Glad it helped!
Well I beat the whole three ending without even knowing that quick turning existed. Because of that, Occupation of Arteria Carpals is so hard even in normal mode.
But somehow pulled through, im going to learn this mechanic. Going to S-Rank every mission
Many such cases, unfortunately
Probably the most important video I’ve seen on the game. Why the hell is this not in a tutorial LOL
Because FromSoft hate you
Armored Core 6 just boosted the views of many AC channels, feel like 6 will probably play nothing like 4 answer but still good content
Yeah I doubt it will play like for answer - this video is aimed to replace the terrible tutorial in For Answer though so it’s mainly for people actively playing that game rather than people looking for content on 6
@@invyt yeah I'm playing 4 answer now and thus helped a lot
commiting this video to memory while I configure my hosas setup for acfa
I would love to see a video of FA on HOSAS. I feel like it'd be perfectly playable and honestly pretty cool
Auto-boost doesn’t seem to keep it on at all times, I read that it just does it over water or when landing hard, but it ABSOLUTELY does not leave boost on permanently on land.
Are you playing 4 or FA?
Thank you, this video turned me from a dumbass who couldn’t turn into a dumbass who can turn
Hopefully you'll be a dumbass who plays pvp soon, like me
Thanks for this guide. 😊
Did quick turn earlier in ac4 on accident, game doesnt document it at all, this vid solved it :D
Something to note, in AC4 you need to click the left stick before the lock on will work properly. Once you click left stick and you see the little box with the enemy in it up in the top left, the lock on will work like it says in the video.
Mmm, I see. Well, looks like I have some stuff to practice today.
Yep!
about 20 hours into ac4a, and ive been using regular a control scheme this whole time, but i think ill try regular b out after watching this.
I somehow beat chapter without realizing quick turning was a thing cause i would just fucking throttle that boost all the time
Just started playing acfa and killed white glint without knowing how to quick turn and autosight on... Took few tries tho.. but damn this could've been useful info.
Well, there’s always hard mode!
@@invyt true that. Will definitely replay again after finishing last raven which I just started.
There isn't a meta, really, but most builds can fly forever with decent energy management.
@ I figured that was the case. I think it’s really cool when a decade-plus-old game has no defined meta; the creativity I’ve seen in videos of online matches is astounding! I’m thinking of getting an emulator setup so I can play online soon.
Please do! I've got a guide on my channel on how to set everything up
@ I actually just watched that 5 minutes ago funnily enough.
You don’t have to stop moving, you just have to let go of left stick
One thing that i'm noticing. at least on an emulated version (my 360 video output is borked i think) turning to regular b just completely disabled auto boost regardless of if it was enabled in settings or not. but resumed working on simple controls.
(running xenia emulator cause it's what was recommended when i looked) just a strange thing i noted. good video otherwise. i knew the game had quick turn but i didn't remember how to do it. and that's the first i'm learning of second staging. what a interesting thing to have!
This video was captured on RPCS3 and most people play the game on RPCS3. I’d suggest joining the discord and swapping over!
The white lock is a stability issue. You can fix it with stabilizers.
@@kronosx7 This was actually all filmed on emulator, I'd love to help you set it up if you have some time - the PC requirements are pretty low
I mentioned this to Lightnn and he asked what kind of stabilizers to use - I'm also curious! The blade PA lunge is a very unconventional tactic and I'd probably shit a brick if someone used it on me
@@invyt Heh, I already told Lighting about this months ago when he asked me about it. Just set up your stabilizers so they're 0,0 whenever you purge down to the weapons giving you white lock. The combination is going to be different for every AC. Tell him I'm still not selling him Problem Solver. I'm retired from ACFA. I'll be back for AC6.
@@kronosx7 It's all good. I already have the rail + pocket blade, having fun reckin' players with it. The 21k en recovery is easily doable. Rail + pms / Nuke marve after PA bomb, yeah it's fun.

lol
yep LMAO that why AC6 dev interview said to view it from the perspective of 4 and For answer. The new lock on might not be the exact same (we dont know anything since we havent even had the chance to touch the game), but hey! the whole argument has been very silly anyway

It's an artifact of how the game displays player positions, basically. Celtic Spear has a great video on his channel explaining further.

Thanks for the guide/tips! Does any of this not work in AC4? I'm currently playing through that one first.
This control scheme makes it impossible for you to second stage. Quick boost needs to be on a pressure sensitive trigger.
@ oh okay got it
Just because you told me to, I refuse to use regular-b.
lol
how do u got it for PC?
There's a link to a guide on how to set the game up in the description.
Im still going to change the controls to classic style 🙂
How much harder the game becomes if you turn off the auto sight?
do not turn autosight off, specially if you're gonna do pvp, otherwise you won't be able to hit ANYTHING
IMMENSELY. Like it's actually ridiculous how long some of us played without it. It's a night and day difference when it comes to aiming.
with the pace of ACfA PvP I doubt turning it off would even be close to helpful since you can still easily loose that hard-ish lock you can handicap yourself and go AC "classic" but thats just that
I still struggle playing with keyboard, but still nice vid!
Keyboard will always be a struggle. It is the worst possible way to play FA
Omg auto boost in 4 does litterally nothing lmao
Quick turn doesn't seem to work for me for some reason, but I might just suck lmao. I remember it being easier than this as a small child on their ps3.
EDIT: **The starter NEXT was overloaded lmfao i was literally fat rolling**
You can still QT when you're over weight - make sure you're moving the stick straight left or right, and make sure you're not touching your movement stick.
@@invyt OHHHHHH RIGHT YOU NEED A NEUTRAL INPUT TO QT IN 4A I FORGOT
I believe I do explicitly say that lol. It's the same in 4 too
@@invyt Binging your videos got me halfway back to the zone after over a decade. I challenged myself to get back into this crazy game, and you challenged me to hit a second stage. I figured I'd drop a comment about second staging, because I remembered the "trick" that by no means makes it easy to do, but makes it do-able;
Step 1: Find the threshold on your QB trigger.
Step 4: *now chain them.* (the tricky part)
Step 5: *now do it while fighting a NEXT* (the hard part)
It takes so much focus in combat to do lol. I remember why I loved this fucking game now. No other mech game out there feels this much like dogfighting while also absolutely feeling like a mech game. Thank you for the tutorials man!
Another user named louie_louie has a really good second staging guide with controller inputs on screen - I didn't include more detail on it in this video because there's specific ones dedicated to chain boosting and second staging by other people.
Habits can be built and unbuilt. Knowledge derived from knowing both sides of auto-sight can't.
Linstant>Sobrero. I will die on this hill.
Aaliyah>Sobrero because admit it aaliyah is the worst generator in fA but people still use it
I mean it's great but new players probably won't be able to manage EN well enough to actively use it, so I'm hard pressed to recommend it outside of builds that rely on PA
@@invyt Advanced for sure, but I ran it on nearly every single AC. Love me some assault armor.

Trying to imagine playing with this control scheme just made me never want me to play this game lmao

I disagree with about half of this.
Please, elaborate
@@invyt If I elaborated, that would mean I was serious. I have a better control scheme, but to be fair, it's not objectively better, just subjectively. It's not wildly different from B and my scheme makes assault armor easier, but only slightly. Also consider that my scheme is not on an Xbox controller. It DOES have triggers, however. Over boost is certainly limited use, again, I half agree. Everything is yes, up until it is not.
