In June of 2016 I was with a group visiting Leipzig for the Bach Festival. The Lutheran pastor who was our tour guide, took us to Wittenberg to visit the just restored Castle Church where Martin Luther had posted the 95 Thesis. As our group is looking at the beauty of this restored church, a group of Germans, probably a church choir, came in and started to sing Luther’s hymn Ein Feste Burg. What a thrill to hear them singing!
One of the greatest cantatas!!! Love the sublime tenor & alto duets before the final chorale.
agreed
Sounds like angel choirs serenading each other... Sheer perfection, the highest that human beings can ever dream up.
When Angels play for themselves, they play Mozart. When they worship God Almight, they sing Bach

Heartfelt Thanks for this!
If you don't believe in something--anything--of the beyond, like even just a wisp, after listening to this, well then you are truly inert.
thanks
I love the speed of the solos, not too slow and boring

I was going to say the same thing
I'm so jealous of the Lutherans they have bach as a church composer!

Does any of you manage to discern the 4 separate voices consistently without getting confused? I'm almost at that point.
I'm not at this point... Yet. :)
I think it's supposed to be easy to discern according to Fux's counterpoint rules. With earbuds its pretty easy i find

Can anyone tell me please title of painting and painter
_Deposition of Christ_ by Veronese.
Can always count on Bach when I need to get away from the madness of this world.
Exactly.
Yes, Bach is a breath of fresh air.
That terrifying moment when you come back to a video to find that you've accidentally hit the dislike button 😱😱😱

Hey, does anyone know if there are subtitles for this particular recording? I'd be keen to watch it with the subs on so I could follow the sublime beauty of Bach's music in this connoisseur's recording... and I could also hear exactly what the words mean, too. In the original German would be great :-) Thanks for uploading
This site has the lyrics for all the cantatas in German and English www.bach-cantatas.com/Texts/BWV80-Eng3.htm

Who's here after reading The Kindly Ones?

Who's here because of History?
15:50 sounds like the communist anthem
Pravda!!
Bach nunca me enganou.
