Brian, long time fisherman but new to fly-fishing. Your videos are extremely informative and entertaining. I've watched most multiple times. The one thing that I haven't seen addressed and perhaps I missed it, is the logic/strategy of stripping line before you cast, and the function of the non-casting hand during the cast, working the fly, and then line retrieval. I've gathered some knowledge by watching your videos but would love to have it demonstrated and explained in a video. Cheers!

Love these they help so much. As far as casting goes its muscle memory and training. Eve pro athletes have time when fundamentals break down so dont be too hard on yourself or despair. Have a good laugh and re set.

I find that I cast better when I’m not thinking about casting, when I’m thinking about anything else I feel the line moving and just cast it right where I wanted it before I realize what I’ve done.

Thank you, Brian! As a novice, I appreciate the constructive criticism and pointers! Living in the Adirondack’s of New York, everything has to be done right (in terms of casting and presentation), so thank you for the advice! Tight lines and keep the reel spinning! 🎣

When I have a problem with casting I need to stop and relax. I go through the steps and think about what’s going on. It’s a lot easier to correct with nothing moving instead of when you have line moving in the air.

Used the clear inter for swinging spiders in the uk since they first came out. I find the spiders get down to depth easier so fish for longer in the swing. Also 95% of my salmon fishing with the spey rod i have one on.

Fly fishing for snook down here in FL, shops suggest a shock leader. If I'm using size 4 flies what lb test shock leader? I know it would be a x1 size but these leader packages don't mention sizes like that. Just lb test.

I am trying to decide on an all round weight fly rod. I want a rod that can work well in a lot of different environments. I want to use it at the lake for large and small mouth bass and I want to take it to Florida to use as an inshore saltwater rod as well. I am looking at a 7 wt. currently that I think can do the job. What do you think? I will probably be throwing streamers and larger flies for bass and redfish.
