Thanks so much for posting this vid. Helped a ton on swapping out my steering wheel and getting the airbag light and horn sorted out.

Thanks! It must be rare to see an 88 GTA in Poland. Its becoming increasingly rare here in the states!

how did you find which ohm resistance? with a multimeter set up on ohms in the airbag conector?

    • @OverheatedGarage

Correct. I find the proper resistance I needed after doing some research.

There’s a better way to free up the wheel! The housing has two double ribs at the top and it’s plastic. Take a dremel and grind those ribs back and slightly bevel the inside edge of the column! Much cleaner look

Does any one know if I would still pass smog if I get rid of the air bags like this for my 91

i thought you wanted everything in Samantha to be a stock Trans Am, im guessing you couldn't find a Brand New un damaged 90s Trans Am Steering Wheel, I took out my airbag im talking all the wires, knight rider doesnt have that so it had to go, maybe im just crazy but i just took apart the 92 firebird dash and removed the airbag light.

Yeah that's another good option. I figured I'd try this way since I had resistors anyway. The rest of Samantha really is as close to stock as possible. This is the only aftermarket piece. I was never a huge fan of the stock steering wheel. It felt big and bulky. This one is slick!

The folks commenting about daisy chaining (series wiring) resistors really need to stop. I guarantee those folks saying to daisy chain resistors have never taken an electronics course, professionally wired anything in series or parallel, and know dick about Ohms law. Resistors are designed to impede current. Why is impede current important? Certain applications are designed to operate within a certain range of ohm rating ( speakers/amps). Speakers, as an example, with incorrect resistance will blow out of too much or too little resistance is applied to the amp. How is that solved? Most pairs of speakers are home run to a receiver and will read 8 ohms. But what if you have a big ass room or back yard pool setup where you may require an extra pair of speakers to carry the channel of sound without just blaring sound. You would add another pair of speakers further away. This is where parallel wiring comes into play by simply running one wire from one speaker to another, matching the positive and negative terminals. The resistance will DECREASE from 8- to 4 ohms. Sonos and most home receivers operate within that resistance range. The math equation is : total impedance = impedance/devices.
Series is different and has plenty of applicable uses. Series wiring operates as a closed circuit where the current runs a single path from device to device. Series wiring is very common in wiring home/commercial security systems. In fact, resistance is added at the sensors (if necessary) to supervise the applicable zone (window, doors, etc). Why is series wiring important in this application? Since series wiring has positive wire to negative wiring daisy chained individual zones need to trip. Series wiring reduces current while raising resistance. The increase resistance happens because the current flow has less options (paths) for the current to travel. The resistance will INCREASE with move resistors added in series. The math equation is : total impedance= impedance x devices.

Dont they make aftermarket steering wheels WITH airbags

You know you could have done it the easy way by disconnecting the battery, pulling the SIR fuse, wait 12 minutes and reconnect the battery. This deactivates the Airbag light for good.

Where would that fuse be located? I couldn't find it on my fuse panel under the dash by the kickpanel.
