Please understand that I am not fluent in French, so these subtitles are not perfect. I created these videos for other people who don't speak French to get a basic idea of the plot. If you're fluent in French and think that I'm completely off the mark with the subtitles, let me know, and I might redo the video. But please understand that I did the best I could.
Also, I only subtitled the songs, and not the dialogue, because a lot of it was hard to catch. Again, sorry.
But I hope more English speakers will become interested in this great musical by learning more details about the plot. Again, please don't assume this is a perfect translation (the French lyrics are simply better on their own) , but I put a lot of work into these videos, and I hope people will like them.

i'm so glad that i finally found this song. my french teacher in high school played this whenever we did grammar and we could never figure out the name of it. I about died when i heard the music.

I can't say anything about him being a dick, but I can say that he is not shouting. Shouting doesn't sound good. He's singing. Actually singing. So he might be an asshat, I'll never know, but don't insult his singing just because he may be a douche.
Relatively to most pros out there, he's a very _bad_ singer ! It's like wishing that some lady would be my official cook only because she has big tits rather than cooking talent... Which is why he doesn't do anything else as a singer apart from this spectacle (surely not a standup singer). More generally, that's also why cultural productions become invaded by much less talented people : most promoters don't have a real talent to find cultural talents (their talent being "making money") : they prefer to offer a bitch showing her tits - or his cute face -, knowing that mot people always appreciate beauty when there's no real distinctive talent : they assume people to be _that_ dumb and incult, but sometimes they're right about this it seems...

DelireWeb I just like his voice bro. Not everyone is a professional singer able to recognize these kinds of things and I don’t think we should have to. I mean yes he’s good looking but if he was that terrible to general audiences we wouldn’t want to watch. I remember our music teacher playing this musical for us in class, but we didn't have time to watch it. We watched him during the next lesson. All evening I walked around the city to this song and bought a ticket for "Romeo and Juliet" in my city. Very fond memories 🥰

A few corrections:
"in the summit" --> "on top"
"what they think of those at the bottom" -> "what we on the bottom think of them"
"have all they want" -> "do whatever they want"
"have the world around them" -> "have people around them" ("Monde" can be a collective noun meaning people in some expressions, the most famous one is "tout le monde" but there are others)
"To live is important" -> "Living is all that matters" (Literally, "living, there is nothing important but that")
"We make no evil" -> "We don't do anything wrong (or any harm)"

I saw this first when I was 9 years old, I adore it ever since. It's the original and best version, no other act can compare to it. The dancers and choreography are both amazing, as well as costumes and the stage.
Nagyon jó érzés ennyi magyar kommentelőt látni az R+J videók alatt. Szerintem nem is tudják, hogy itt is szeretik ezt a musicalt. Én 2005-ben láttam először és azóta szeretem. Úgy bírom, hogy vannak, akik más verziókat imádnak, miközben ezt fikázzák, csak épp azt felejtik el, hogyha ez nem sikerült volna ilyen jól, akkor a többit meg sem csinálják, mert nem lett volna sikeres.

I personally prefer the bridges and choreography of the Hungarian version, but the chorus sounds miles better in French. I wish there was a mix, the best of both worlds...

There are several mistakes or things I do not agree with in the translation.
I'll point them out for my own pleasure (I'm very interested in languages) , for people who are interested and for educational purposes.
Do know that my mothertongue is neither French nor English.
0:35 They have the most beautiful view, but there is a 'but'
0:38 They do not know, what we on the bottom think of them
0:45 The kings of the world do whatever they want (I think he says 'font', not 'ont', but the 'f' is very faint)
0:49 They have people around them, yet they are alone (du monde in this context means people)
There are some parts I don't completely agree with, but I myself don't really know how I should translate it.
