  • Bunching onions are a wonderful variety, because they keep multiplying.

    You don't need to trim the roots. Just cut the top. They will regrow faster with their roots on.

    What did you keep? Looks like you just pulled them up, cut the tops and replanted.

      I got rid of the seed tops and separated any that had multiplied.

    Great video! How long after you replant them will they mature? I'm in MN so want to know how much time I have after replanting the cut onions back into the ground as we have a short growing season. Thank you!

      Approximately six weeks. It really depends on how much fertilizer and water they have.

    I use a simular method with mine. However my multiplying onions don't produce seed.

    I'm trying to figure out what part do you eat? Seems like you saved seeds, and replanted roots, but threw the tops into the compost pile?

      We harvested and ate the onions throughout the season. Then we prepared the rest for the next season.

      @@gardeningsimplified oh ok I didn't realize. Thank you for the quick reply and information. I live in upstate South Carolina, we get very few freezing nights here. Do you think if I planted the roots in the fall and maybe mulched over them, they would regrow? Mine aren't really ready for cutting yet, but real soon

    Why not use the greens?

    • @gardeningsimplified
      @gardeningsimplified  2 года назад

      Usually by that time the greens are in very poor condition, the only healthy part is the seed stock.

    I thought you were suppose to leave them alone where they are and they regrow next year?

    Why don't you dry out the green tops and sell them or sell the green tops fresh to resturants for garnish etc...or cafe...😅😢😢😢want a waste big time...😮😮😮

      We do freeze dry some of our green tops,but as with everything else, we only need so many. I don't waste my time with restaurants. Nothing goes to waste. The leftovers are composted.
