    Another great and informative video. What strikes me about your channel is, I believe, it's years ahead of the game as regards perennial food growing. Remember a few years back when "No Dig Gardening" became the craze, you've taken it a step further in "No Dig, No Plant Gardening". I know you do plant a lot of stuff, I've seen your videos, but this could be a style of food produce for people who haven't got the time to dedicate to all the propagating, re-potting, digging and planting, kind of like the difference between having your own pets and children vs enjoying someone else's. Perfect style for those who tire quickly or like me get distracted and forget (or on a downer and can't be bothered i.e. depressed and unmotivated). Maybe an idea for a future video if you haven't already done it, "The Perennial Food Garden" lol. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge, I am learning so much from you. Take care, Poo

    This is interesting! I have some Egyptian walking onions on order, they are a cross of Welsh onions and shallots, the don’t have seeds because they are diploid! I’m planning to grow them like garlic to get maximum bulb size.

    • @jasons-jungle
      @jasons-jungle  3 месяца назад +1

      They don't give me a massive bulb - it splits into smaller ones instead. The best use I have for then is spring onion sets - as the mother clump grown and produces more top sets I plant out the top sets and they quickly give a crop of scallions.

    Thank you so much, exactly the explanations that I was looking for!! I'll harvest tomorrow 🤤

      Glad you found the video useful. Remember to replant some of the bunch to regrow the patch. That's a good time to add more compost into the planting area to give them a feed.

    First time coming to your channel and I subscribed! This is what I'm looking for. Show me the plant and how you harvest. 😊

    Here in the US they're sold as green onions. They're in basically every store. I've seen quite a few tutorials on regrowing them, but most people are saying to regrow them in water. Soil is optimal, otherwise they won't divide, and eventually they will just die.

    Thank you for answering the question about Welsh onion vs Tree Onions (Egyptian walking onions) and hybridization. I was wondering how I had 2 identical patches that seeded differently.

      Yeah, loads. I've only just heard of the Bristol Onion - despite the fact that I've been growing it for a couple of years.

    When do yours normally start to flower, it’s March and mine are just starting which seems off, I’m central U.K.

    • @jasons-jungle
      @jasons-jungle  Год назад

      They would flower late spring early summer. I don't have them now - I use a combination od regular spring onions and walking onions to cover my scallion needs through the year

    Hi Jason greetings from Morpeth the welsh onions must taste like chives rather than spring onions
    Are they better left until they are bigger or eaten young and smaller will I plant mine now in a pot indoors
    With heat,
    Thanks😘

    • @jasons-jungle
      @jasons-jungle  2 года назад +1

      I find they still have more of an onion flavour rather than chives. I let them mature before harvest

    • @KrepsyK

      I had this same discussion with my uncle. He said prefers them smaller and lets the big ones seed and spread. Not sure.

    • @jasons-jungle
      @jasons-jungle  2 года назад +1

      I've actually moved away from Welsh Onions to Walking Onions which are doing better in my garden and using the topsets as sets for overwintering spring onions is easier than seeds.

    I've a packet of Welsh onions, do you think I can sow them now?

    • @jasons-jungle
      @jasons-jungle  5 лет назад +3

      If you sow them now into pots they can Overwinter in a cold greenhouse and be split up and planted in spring.

  • @fistfullachange9791
    @fistfullachange9791 2 года назад +1

    do they reseed themselfs or you need to plant the top with seeds into the ground yourself?

    • @jasons-jungle

      I haven't had the Welsh Onions resend themselves but then again I had alot of couch grass in that area and probably weeded out any seedlings.
