    As much as that black plastic cost you could just buy the produce

    • @gardeningsimplified
      @gardeningsimplified 2 дня назад

      You're right, then I could pay the money that I saved, and then some to big pharma. If not for the ground cover I wouldn't be able to grow the volume of produce that I grow. We would not have enough time to keep up with weeds. What is your time worth? What is your health worth? When you gain the knowledge of what is in the processed food you buy, and what is chemicals are used on the produce you purchase, you would know that you can't justify the cost of not spending the money to grow your own food. I'm surprised you didn't say anything about the $12000.00 greenhouse. I know exactly what's in my food. From the seeds I plant to the crops I harvest. The excess I grow more than pays the cost to increase my overall production. I don't get rich from farming, very few do. But my customers at the farmers market appreciate the effort we make to make quality produce affordable to them. My goal isn't money, it's help humanity doing something that I love. Wouldn't this world be a wonderful place if everyone thought that way? As a final note, my wife said putting down ground cover was one of the best decisions we made.

    • @gardeningsimplified
      @gardeningsimplified Месяц назад

      @@wendyburston3132, I think it's one of the reasons. One of their food sources is aphids, which attack plants when they are stressed. Once they come in they multiple and turn to other food sources that include plant leaves and beneficial insects. High plant sugars should help destroy their life cycle.

    I have experimented with planting elephant garlic "corms", the small nodules that develop on elephant garlic. The germination is VERY slow. I only had 10% grow and it was three years after being planted. I saw an interesting RUclips video where the gardener clipped the pointed end tip of the corm prior to planting. He claimed to have success at germinating the corms. They then grow a single bulb the first year, which can be replanted to produce a full bulb the second year. I will have a new method of experimenting this fall with the corms! Thank you for your video about harvesting and curing elephant garlic. I will try your method this year. In precious years, I dried the entire plant and had success until last year when, unfortunately, the bulbs were not sufficiently dry and developed mold during storage. I suffered a loss of over 50% of my crop and don't want that to happen again. Additionally, hanging those whole plants was cumbersome, to say the least. I guess in gardening, as in life, when you know better, you do better! Thanks again!
