Hi Felipe. Thank you for this review. Been listening to it with headphones all along. But all I really cared about was to see you on stage. Performing live is the best of test for a cajon. Makes me wonder why don't you show us more of your gig, man ? Cheers
This cajon sounds and looks terrific. It would be perfect for my gigs. I like the inputs and the volume/tone controls. Plus, for such a quality product, the price point works. I'm probably going to purchase it. That'll be my 5th cajon! It's hard to stop. Thanks Felipe for this and all your cajon vids!
Pro: I like the front plate. Con: What were they thinking? Would have bought if they put the electronics in the back so cord is not coming out the side. Cleaner look and does not get in the way. Also if you need to turn up to 8 or 9 they need to change to a better pickup. At $350 Dealbreakers. Thank you. Enjoy your videos.
Hi Felipe! I get the Artisan pickup cajon in the worship. If i only get one mic, should i place to the frontplate, back hole or place inside the cajon? Hope to hear your precious suggestion. Thanks😉
@@CajonMaster I have try put inside with piece of cloth under the mic. The bass sound is excellent, but when play fast the echo of bass will blur the snare sound. Audience feedback the sound is kind of messy.
Hi Felipe, thank you for your precious videos. I own the same cajon that I use mostly for concerts and I have a question about it: sometimes I have to arrange myself when there's no audio service on the stage. I know that a DI Box helps to avoid unwanted noises, so my question is which type of it: active or passive for the Meinl Artisan Pickup Cajon? I wish you a wonderful day - Davide
Thanks for your detailed review, on your recommendation I just bought this cajon and struggling to get the sound I want in the mix (looped with keys and vocals). For one mic in the back, would you recommend a sm 57 or b 52? The music is for pop gigs. Many thanks!
Thank you so much! I really appreciate the quick reply and advice, just in time for me to order the sm 57 before my gig on Saturday. 🙏You have a new subscriber! It is my first time live looping Cajon through a boss RC 300 with split keyboard for bass and EP. Hoping the Cajon is gonna get people dancing 💃 🕺. Thanks again!
Thanks for your great videos! I have a question slightly off topic. I'm considering purchasing either a Gon Bops AACJSE Alex Acuna Special Edition Cajon or the Meinl Artisan Buleria Line Cajon in the Lava that you reviewed. It seems that the Gon Bops has a more separated bass sound as the wires are diagonally up top. The Buleria seems to have more snare down low but it sounds very good based on your review. Do you have any recommendation that would steer me to one over the other?
The Buleria Line is a great Cajon with a good price. I never played the Gon Bops. It would be nice if you could test both and choose the one you like best.
Hi, I also have this Cajon but I get a terrible metallic rattle from the pickup. Would you recommend trying different locations in the Cajon for the pickup or extra tape to stick it down more.
When i played my cajon out, i just had a sm57 and stuck it a little inside the cajon and really loved the sound. I wonder what the difference in the mic settup would be
Hello Felipe, thank you for this very nice review! I'm wondering about the Link out in the pickup, do you know what is it for? Thank you in any case :)
Hi 👋 the link option is when you don’t want to use the preamp of the pickup. For example, if you plug the cajon in an amp using the link option the control of volume and EQ will be done in the amp. When you use the other option line, the control of volume and EQ will be done in the pickup.
Hi Felipe, do you know if it is possible to connect this via a looper pedal to an amp? Ie so solo performer could lay down beat track that loops to play over
Hey fellipe i had this question abt cajòn maintainence..I've been taking good care of my cajòn which is almost a year old now and idk why but the top screws on the tappa where my hands land all the time(but obviously) have started to rust, what should i do about this ...is it normal?
Hi Kavish, This is normal. With the sweat the screws get rusty. I have a box of screws of the same model and change every year almost. I suggest to you to take one off go the hardware shop and buy a box of screws 😉
Hi Felipe. I see that Meinl makes a couple of other PickUp Cajons, but I'm undecided. How does the Artisan compares to the vertical subwoofer model? what are their key differences? Sound? Low end? Is the pick up better in the Artisan, hence the slight higher price? I generally play rock and pop acoustic gigs so your knowledge and recommendation would greatly appreciated. Thanks for all the great content!
Hi! The Artisan pick up is my favorite among other Meinl Cajons with pick up. I cannot say if the pick up is better than the others, it works just fine for me. It’s my gig cajon, I use it all the time. It’s a bit more expensive because of the cajon itself. It’s a handmade cajon made in Spain and it sounds great 👍🏻 highly recommend it 😉
@@CajonMaster thanks Felipe. This makes sense. I’ll give it a try! Thanks again for your tutorials and great content. I’m originally a drummer but your videos have helped me improve my cajón chops! Muito Brigado!
The great thing about playing the cajon . It doesn't matter your just keeping a beat to the music. People are not going to stand back and say I cant get into this music the cajon does not sound right. If you jam with good musicians you can play a cheap one. People won't notice cajon players or musicians that play with one may notice.
How well does this cajon do in the mix? I've put my basic cajon, believe it or not, in metal songs and sounds good, but mixing can be difficult to be able to hear it stand out. I love the idea of having a pickup cajon to record directly and not deal with microphones and stands. :-)
@@CajonMaster tried it a little bit. Some delay or uni-vibe on it sounds pretty good. I'll definitely be going through the pedals to see what else will work.
The pickup seems a lot darker, kind of cuts out some of the high-end noise, which in my opinion is a little dull. Sounds processed like its bean overly compressed.

A demo of this instrument being played plugged in to an amp live would make watching this short video worthwhile.

if is just 1mic, the 57 is a good choice. With this cajon when I play live I use the pick up medium tone and mid volume and the 57 in the back.

Shure B52
That cajon has a great sound. It sound really nice with the mics and pickup. Great combo!! Id love to play that one. Breat video brother.

Pls put a video how to connect a cajon to speaker for live performance

What do you like better string or snare I have a snare with pickups sounds great it a meinl but the string sounds good what do you think

Any difference in sound between the artisan pickup Cajon and the artisan non-pickup Cajon?
The model is the Artisan Solea line. The difference is the pick up, the acoustic sound is pretty much the same.

The pick up gives that extra that goes well with the mics
I just got a Spark 40. Im going to have to run my Cajon into it and see what I can do with it.😁
Let me know how it goes ;)

Is there a cajon in the Artisan series that doesn't have the snare sound when hitting the bass note?
Hi Benny, there is always a bit of snare sound in the artisans. If you like more separation the snare cajon is the one for you ;)
The pickup seems a lot darker, kind of cuts out some of the high-end noise, which in my opinion is a little dull. Sounds processed like its bean overly compressed.
I agree with you. I think the mic's are better. But for live gigs situation works fine, the pick up + a mic in the back.
Is mienl cajon pro available in india

Cajoning your skills as a drummer
That should be on a t shirt for cajon players
You should plug some guitar pedals in it and see what happens!
Good idea, I will do, thanks for the suggestion ;)
Delay or a wha , or reverb or mix them up.. now that I think about it what if you mounted a toonwood amp on that cajon

Where is the bass sound
There is quite a bit of bass with the pickup but when I put the mic in the back it definitely has more bass.
