    Wasn't Jordan the biggest pick up when joining the Wizards? Didn't they go from bottom of the league in defense in the previous year to as high as #3 in defense when he was playing before his injury?? Jordan was handling business on defense

    • @shamwaw336
      @shamwaw336 10 месяцев назад +10

      Yup, MJ got injured right before the All Star break where they were 26-21 then went 11-24.
      Like you said, their biggest dip was in their defense based on their splits despite a surprise up tick in shooting efficiency (which could just be attributed to shooting less 3 point duds).
      Interesting enough, the next year splits saw a similar trend where they performed better pre-All Stars and dropped off after.

    • @sub4subbalkan653
      @sub4subbalkan653 10 месяцев назад

      @@shamwaw336so they were on course to make the playoffs before the injury. And that wasnt exactly a good team mind you. Compare that to Lakers last season who missed the playoffs while James was playing. Yes AD was out a lot, but he had a guy who just came off a 22-11-11 season and played nearly every games. I dont think they have excuses for James, if he played so great, that they dont even make the play in game. The reason is obvious, "cheating" the game on the deffensive end for his offensive numbers. The literal opposite of a Bill Russell, who will score 2 points if it means a W, while James would prefer a 30pt triple double in a L

      Jordan joined the Wizards because they were a new team and he was promised an Ownership interest in the team. He was there just to promote the team. I don't know why this FACT is never brought up. The owner double crossed him. Later he would get an ownership interest in the Hornets. He was not there to try to win a championship. He never would have played if it were not for that.

Plus, who in the NBA now is doing what Jordan or even Kobe did for the NBA. Absolutely no one, no one stands out, heck even Vince Carter stood out amongst great players. These players today can't even do that in a league that is soft. So what does that tell you? These arguments are foolish and absolutely ridiculous. Here's a nail in the coffin. He also played in the 80s and 90s which was the peak of PED use. There's more that suggests he did PEDs that not. Also theres more to peds that gaining muscle. There peds for stamina, recovery, etc.

    Context... Teams flew commercial to games, teams practiced on the off days, no load management, flagrant fouls today were called as common fouls, if at all. Jordan also came into the Wizards off of having his ribs broken in the off-season. As he got into basketball shape he was averaging 27ppg in the twenty games prior to the knee injury. In the ten games before the injury he averaged 29ppg. The Wizards ran off a 15-1 win streak. So playing after the injury dropped his stats down to 25ppg for the session. We'll never know how good he would have been due to injury.

    MJ's basketball era WAS SO DIFFERENT COMPARED to LbJ era. MJ went in to NBA where basketball is so physical and some other NBA stars was still existing those times- 80s- 90s.. but despite of the physicality kind of games that time, he was still able to produce positive ends of a ball game- even there was games with superb crucial situations. Flagrant and acting rules was not that available yet compared to LbJ's era. 2nd, MJ didn't had a situation of having a new team. The Bulls' player- regardless of player (newly draft picked or traded players) who comes where the management (with the Coach) gets, MJ played with them and teaches them. LbJ already had 3 teams to be with. Obviously he plays for the money offer and who he wants to play with.
    MJ gave a NEW DEFINITION of REALITY how basketball SHOULD BE PLAYED. That's the Main FACT.

    Yes, there are more scoring guards in today's league, but that's also because it's easier for guards to score today than in past. Also, Jordan played a lot of Forward in his Wizards days. He was also still effective defensively despite not making an All-Defense team. The Wizards were better defensively with him on the court than without & he occasionally took on the opposing team's best scorer in certain spots (Vince Carter, Paul Pierce, etc).

    How can Gilbert say LeBron can still play and run like hes 20, but then say we shouldnt expect anything from him cause hes 38? Like no, if you gonna imply he can play just as good as he can when he was young, then imma still have the same expectations from him. If hypothetically Jordan at 40 was still JORDAN and still played just as good as prime Jordan that we knew, i'd still have the same Jordan expectations from him.

    If you compare Jordan's 03 stats to his 98 stats you will see he averaged more rebounds and more assists while shooting a higher percentage from 3 and the foul line. He lead the 03 Wizards in steals + assists which is an indication he was their best defensive player. He did shoot less than in 98 because he was the #2 option behind Stackhouse, but he actually had a much better season than Stackhouse. The year before Jordan was a bit rusty and did not have a great year, but his last year with the Wizards he was good.

I don't know why this FACT is never brought up. The owner double crossed him. Later he would get an ownership interest in the Hornets. He was not there to try to win a championship. That’s why his body did not hold up as well. as time goes on, we will see players last a lot longer because the contact of the game is a lot less 38 years old is impressive to still be playing but I have a feeling it won’t be that impressive in the next 20 years.

Everyone else is just ignorant about it but let Lebron come to a team that was a bottom 3 team in the league defensively and turn them to a top 5-10 defense he would be considered an all defensive player. It's just like his first year with LA and how they were in 4th place by Christmas but ended up not making the playoffs because he missed 12 games from a "groin injury" Something he didn't need surgery on. 🙄I wish Jordan would've been able to come back to a team and recruit GP and KG. Dominates on the break and at the basket, im saying he's a modern, leaner perimeter oriented Karl Malone, trading mid range post/face ups for the occasional 3s. Karl Malone could get near 5apg playing as a true Power Forward, get him leaner and working on his handle and let the offense run through him and now he's easily getting 3more apg. He's still rebounding, still dominating the fast break(best floor running PF ever, Bron best floor running SF). Hes still strong and bullying his way downhill at the basket-only now there's rarely true HOF C's camping the paint and he's being defended by Small Forwards instead of true Power Forwards most of the time.
    No, he wouldn't be as fast or have the verticality, that still separates the 2, but neither is lebron anywhere near as strong as Malone and Malone would rebound at a higher rate and had the softer shooting touch-reliable from FT and both had their come up small in crunch time genes. Both flop. Both stat machines. Both longevity freaks of nature.
    Karl was putting up better numbers than Jordan at 39 also. Became 2nd all time in points. No one cared. Make the league offense oriented where defenders can't defend-up the pace and possessions and now 39 year old Karl Malone likely putting up better numbers than his MVP seasons just like LeBron. No one actually believes LeBron is better now than his prime right? Bc thats what the numbers say. That's how badly unbalanced the NBA currently is to benefit offense vs when Malone and Jordan were old in the slowest era ever.
    LeBron in the 90s is a mix of Karl Malone and you could say Scottie or Clyde or Hill, but his aesthetic probably closer to Clyde. That's a HOFer and one of the greatest ever still, but it would still be Jordan on the mountain top.

    I've been creating written content for about 5 years, more into developing copy & gettiing ppl into offers but I originally began doing this cause I've studied every player, from every team, in every season - with film on them via full game tape & I've watched the first couple minutes of your video & I don't disagree but was wondering why you don't point out two narratives (for context 😆) 1) MJ came back to the Wizards, from being a GM, because the Wizards were in danger of being relocated again. He came back to sell tickets, merch, etc, since the franchise is still in Washington, that alone makes what he did successful.
    2) The 2nd thing worth noting, maybe you mention this further in the video but I might not get to it, Michael Jordan is the only basketball player to ever average 20+ ppg at 40+ years of age. He's also the only player to have a 40+ point game at 40+ too. I was just writing about this on Quora last week, pointing out mostly all players are retired before 40 & those that remain are usually big men. Regardless none have ever come close to 20 ppg.

    Jordan in his 2002-2003 season was climbing back to true brilliance. I mean… he kind of already was doing it. He was 40. He was getting healthier. He was becoming more efficient. He was starting to get that team motivated and in shape. If he stayed one more year and stayed healthy, who knows what would have happened. He was competing with the best of the time and beating them in some stats and he was way way more impactful than the goofy, sloppy leflop at 39 who gets free and clear open lanes to the hole and shoots under 30% from mid. Gets given every call undeserved, flops around like a fish, gets handed stats like candy and literally doesn’t play defense. Doesn’t run. Doesn’t hustle. Just stands there like a dope waiting for his team to create a shot for him and leaves them playing 4 on 5 on D. He gets touted as still in the best in the league level and he is just not close. Jordan at 40 crushes old, lazy LeFlop.

    MJ could've still played in the NBA @50 yo. He would have been upper mid-tier, not GOAT level but still a starting SG on most teams if you think about it. At 50, he would have had 'forced rest' (Popovich did the game a great dis-service with implementing that all those years ago, IMO), the lack of hockey style defense from opponents nowadays (Wilt & MJ forced the League to change the rules because of them, they were that good, remember), more roster rotation in-game, and the implementation of the review system & the newer flagrant foul rules... he would still be putting up starting SG numbers, making the franchise $$$, mentoring younger players (as he did with the Wizards), and bringing the MATURITY level up in the league post-50. I didn't say post-55 but he could've played another 3 or 4 years, just to prove that he could at that level. That would've ended ALL GOAT talk all-time BUT owner's of professional sport teams/clubs cannot be professional players also. "How many licks does it take to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop? The world may never know.".

    Agreed with a lot of what you said, but you got KAJ’s age 38 season wrong.
    It’s true he turned 38 during the 84-85 season, but that wasn’t until the playoffs started.
    The next year, he was 38 for the entire regular season. He avg’d 23.4 ppg, 6.1 rpg, 3.5 apg, 1.6 bpg, and had 56.4/76.5 % splits in 79 games. LAL lost in the WCF to Houston that year but that was still an impressive year.

  • @olzt100

    Whoa! Whoa! The fact is Washington never put Jordan on the floor to relive his glory days. He was put on the team to mentor the likes of Arenas and Stackhouse and teach them to be winners in the league. To pin point it correctly, he should have been the Wizards versions of Udonis Haslem, but averaging 15 to 16 points a game. The point was learning to win, not maintaining a scoring standard. And Jordan's UNC years, Bulls years and Wizards years reveal that a team with him cannot win titles or playoff series without the right players sacrificing parts of their offensive game to make his offensive game look better. Pippen, Rodman, Kukoc, Grant and Harper all played harder on defense and sacrificed their offensive skills to accommodate his 24+ fg attempts a game. Had Washington had the same type of players willing to sacrifice for Michael like Bulls players did, they might have made it to the playoffs. Scottie Pippen's real beef with Jordan is that all he sacrificed in scoring, effort, pay and ego to keep the Bulls winning the narrative stills remains Jordan won six titles and the rest of the Bulls just watched and passed Michael the ball.

I'm trying to wrap my head around why the league is allowing this to go on? It's because of #23 that the league reached international status. Wilt, Oscar, Jerry, Magic, Bird, Isiah, and on and on didn't accomplish that monumental feat that today's players are benefitting from. #RESPECT23
