I had my clutch done at evolutionary performance slc back in December of 2020 and just had them put in the OEM clutch but so far she’s held up good with no complaints

the shaft randall pulled is called a half shaft. it helps both cv axles to be close to/equal length which is supposed to help mitigate some torque steer. they come on honda b & k series too.
@@pollo.888 Okay, halfshafts are axles and the intermediate shaft is the one middle...hence intermediate. I've dealt with a Prelude and lots of Mazda turbos and the middleshaft, which is usually bolted to the motor, is the intermediate shaft. But if you want to call it a halfshaft then I am more than willing since I understand your thought process.
I just scrapped my act because I'm running too much power for it. Action Clutch makes a nice dual disk that stays gripping to 10k rpm, and all the boost.
Well explained video and great job - I noticed you have obviously changed the flywheel- but it looks like a solid one rather than the standard dual mass type- I thought the idea of a dual mass flywheel was to ease the stress on the gearbox internals, as the dual mass absorbs the large torque load that many turbo cars deliver, especially when launching the car from standstill. Seeing that this is an older street car with I presume lots of mileage already, do you reckon the gearbox will stay reliable?. I realize on a track car, that the lightened flywheel makes sense of course.
@@mazdaspeedg2380 haha agree, the motor is notorious for oil consumption and blowing up🤣. Still got my bolt ons gen1 but now has the notorious cylinder3 missfire/low compression. I had no choice so i bought an elantra N😅😅
Great vid. I own this car's twin. I just upgraded my front brakes to the CS BBK. 2 days later I swear my throwout bearing is making noise. I have a feeling a clutch job is in my future :( You guys wanna fly out to PA and do mine? Haha. Side question, did you upgrade any of the mounts while you had her torn apart?

It looked in way good enough condition to leave it. I’m leaving mine because it’s in such good condition and it’s completely dry. If you have one that’s moist or showing wetness it is ideal to replace it but if you have one in good enough condition it doesn’t matter

Yeh there's normally 3 reasons a clutch is noisy. The dual mass flywheels tend to rattle when their worn, the release bearing makes a real bearing noise which alters when you push the clutch in and out but the spigot bearing in the center of the flywheel has to be extremely worn to hear it Just do everything as getting transmissions in and out isn't the sort of job you want to do twice.

yeah, the clutch is pushed into the flywheel by the pressure plate which is essentially a ring of springs that squeeze the clutch into the flywheel to grip. a higher torque rated clutch will come with a flywheel that will squeeze on more, requiring more pedal force to release that spring tension

Jack it up on 4 jack stands, you’ll get plenty of clearance. Works for me all the time
cleaning out the tranny is a really nice touch even though no one would see it for a looong time.

Dual mass is prone to failure and its heavy. And transmissions on speeds ars bulletproof.

Can't judge a clutch until you put a couple hundred miles on it... pedal feel will change after it is broken in.

Any noticeable difference in how the clutch feels and releases with the one piece flywheel vs the dual mass flywheel?

I have a “Stage 3” ACT clutch kit in my 08 speed and I was wondering if that clutch has a lot of clutch chatter or if I have a defect pilot bearing….

Out of all the clutches iv done in my life mazda 3 is the easiest. My opinion.. took me actually two and a half to three hours the last time i did one
