Hello from New Zealand, I have just bought a 2011 mazda 3 and i really appreciate your videos as I know absolutely nothing. I am looking for slight mods here and there. But keep doing what your doing. love the vids.
Instead of using 3 screwdrivers of pull the whole shift out. Push each tab with screw driver and put tooth picks in the top of the tabs. A hole lot easier.

Something small fall off , is that something important you didn't see it when you maked the assembly because the grease was infront of it...
I think it was one of the locking tabs, nothing important
Hey I noticed you didn't add loctite to the set screws they may wiggle loose over time went through this scenario with both my Fidanza sts and the Ark Performance sts sadly neither used welds like TWM used to. Ended up in the long run giving up on the sts altogether and opted for the CS short shift plate. I know this being your second sts you've probably dealt with the same issue hope this one holds up well for you keep up the great content love the vids and what you do with these cars!

mine looked identical to yours but it doesnt seem to be tiltet quite as much and the throw was advertised to be reduced by 40% but i feel like it only made a 10% difference (didnt measure but feels almost the same)
I hear you, but once you remove the short shifter after awhile you'll realize it makes a big difference lol
I've had one installed from me from a buddy, put i can't get it to reverse because im so use to the lever, to push down then left up but for some reason always is taking me to first. so in other words i cannot reverse
When I got mine, it smelled really bad and it was super floppy when it was in neutral. I switched back to my stock shifter and it was much better to drive.

Are short shift plates and short shifters mutually exclusive or can I install both in my gen 1 3?
You can do both, but you'll most likely destroy the living hell out of your transmission haha

How to hell to you get those clips back under the piece. Like the metal rod that goes through the spring to the other side. I can’t fold the pins back

Hey, good video! I'm going to do this same mod (and a few others inspired by your vids) to my '04 Mazda 3. But being from Australia, do you have any idea if the same short shift ordered from Ebay would fit a right hand drive? I'm concerned the shifter will end up tilted to the left away from the driver side.
It'll be the same as this, so it will tilt to the far side for you unfortunately.
Does everything feel more solid? My current shifter feels sloppy. I don't mind the throw, but I would like to get back the solid gear change feel.

Try a Mazda dealership or grab one from a wrecker yard!
Would this fit on a 2012 Mazda 3 I sport, 2.0 With 5 Speed M/T ? I know your installing on a 6 speed I just wasn’t sure if the linkage was similar enough on a 5 speed
I would guess not, I believe that base is a little different.

I got it from a friend I believe it was from wish, came with a thread to fit

My question is, you've got a SSP and a short shifter kit. They combining for the shorter throws? As you know I can't get a plate and im getting mixed feedback about a short shift kit
I don't have a SSP in this car, never will put one on my MZ3's, just the actual short shifter
The stock shifter is short enough for all practical purposes, but for 50 bucks and a bit of time the short shift kit might be worth a laugh.
For comparison, I've driven a Lada 1500. That one felt like a tractor.

@@ColtonRichter hmmm will think about it some more, maybe in a few weeks, ive got to ease up for now on car parts xD doing more little things for now that dont chew 40-50% of my pay lol
A short shifter kit and SSP will put to much strain on the cables.
Shifter cables will stretch resulting in not going into gear at all.
I personally do not recommend SSP's as it changes the natural angle the cables were designed for and can result in gear change issues, my guy is doing the correct way albeit a cheap China shifter but if it works fair play to you

What shift knob did you use / do you reccomend it?
I think it's an Amazon shift knob, id prefer something with weight.
