Absolutely. Fully agree. My dream car from the moment I first saw one in 2007. The original first Gen is the best. Not the new one with fake vents... the original! Beautiful. 😍
the V8 has 420hp, Raiti. I own a Gen 1 V10 with a gated manual + all the carbon bits and its an experience like no other. The V8 is more than enough car for anyone to have fun in. It has aged so much more gracefully compared its distant cousin, the Gallardo for sure. Future classic!!! These are the last of the supercars with proper manual.
First generation r8 was an amazing super car and had amazing performance for its year. It's also awesome we got a manual too! I wish the current generation r8 we can get a manual as an option :(
I have been in love with the design of the Gen1 R8 since it was released. 3 days ago I picked up one myself, at 52 years I feel like a 8 year old boy at Christmas.
This car has a few visual mods worth noting. The Audi badge is removed from the hood, the R8 logo added to the calipers and the 19-inch OEM wheels, which came from the factory silver with bright chrome on the spokes, are powder-coated black. The 4.2 motor produces 420hp, not 480 as mentioned, and a 0-60 time of 4.4 sec versus the 4.0 mentioned. I believe it was also mentioned that the 6MT is only available with the 4.2. It is actually available with the 5.2 as well. I've driven my 2009 6MT since 2016 as a daily and loved every mile. Most impressive about the car is it has (knock on wood) given me very few mechanical issues, all of them minor. It's a well-made car.
This is my favorite Audi, due to being introduced to this car from many racing games, such as Need For Speed and Forza. The design is simple and beautiful that has aged very well.
The first generation has retained its value unexpectedly well. The signature rumble of the FSI DOHC V8, the gated manual and the timeless design tingle all my senses. It's sad that there will never be a car like this again. Forever R8.
The R8 V8 is my favorite car of all time. I've always loved the looks, sounds and everything. I can't wait to finally own an R8 one day. Can't wait man. Awesome review, I was waiting for you to review one, I'm glad you liked it, and it was a manual. I would most definitely get the R8 V8 for a first supercar.
Old is Gold for this 2009 Audi R8 with that roar rumble from the V8 engine. Love it's performance on road and the the design is sleek. Thanks 🙏🙏 *Joe* for rejuvenating it to the mass.
Let’s keep in mind, HP doesn’t necessarily win laps, it’s how deep you can go into corners and consistently maintain an average speed on the track. Handling is everything. HP will reel you in on the straights but handling is what will make or break your lap times.
i love my 2008 gated R8. The 2 best modifications I did was converting it to rear wheel drive and adding a titanium straight piped exhaust. sounds amazing.
You do know it was pretty much rear wheel drive from factory right! The power distribution pretty much made a RWD the front wheels only hooked when necessary
I loved this car ❤️ I would still want this car 10 yrs from now. It will never get outdated to me. The V10 would have been better. A nice novice driver car for weekend fun

When this car was on the lot, I was selling them in San Diego. They're classy, as in...not a bunch of silly boy racer aero attachments, like absurd gaping intakes and wings. This model is instantly recognizable like a Bugatti. Power isn't neck breaking, but more than you'll ever use off the track. Those MPGs are a definite liability for a used car buyer, hoping to save money.
@@RaitisRides Lotus or Porsche for me. Lotus for the mind melting handling, or Porsche for the all around teutonic sensibility in totally unsensible driving.
Omg! This is the first Gen R8 and I was completely stricken with its looks back when it was launched. There was nothing like that car in the market that I had EVER imagined. Look at how the air inlets (that are usually positioned below in the bumper) and the headlight forms a one single unit. The design was (and still is) so unprecedented. Even the subsequent R8s couldn’t beat the aesthetics appeal of the original. And there’s that quintessential silver colour the established R8’s trademark colour. I can go on and on and on about this car. How old was I? 20
The R8 is (and forever will be) one of my favorite beasts for the track. I'd still want this car once it depreciates soon. Regardless if it's a V8 or V10, I'd want one with twin turbos for added power.
They only sold around 1100 V8 models and ~1000 V10 models with a gated manual(coupes + spyders) in the US, so there won't be much depreciation unless you buy a salvage title or rebuilt one. The pre-facelift Gen 1 with the less desirable R-tronic transmission will still depreciate though. There are already shops developing a manual conversion, so your best bet would be buy an R-tronic on the cheap and do the manual swap. 👍🏽
6 speed manual will be the more desirable to collectors in a few years for this car over a dct. Plus nothing is better than driving stick especially in a car like this
I never liked the R8 back when it came out (I preferred the RS4 at the time) but now I really can appreciate how awesome the R8 is. It's aged so well and for a good while it was an affordable super car with probably one of the best manual transmissions around.
