Looks like the controls of the A3 model 2003-2012 except the A3 had an additional button under the sliders for the coming/leaving home function. I always thought that when Audi released the R8 it should been what Honda did to the next generation NSX. It's like Audi copied the first generation NSX's formula of reliability, daily practicality, while improving on every performance aspect of what the first gen NSX was. I truly love the first gen R8 for these qualities.
Márk Vidéki I don't see any problem with having a Lamborghini V10 instead of a v8, and the DCT transmissions are so fast these days that having a manual would make it a lot slower and less impressive. You would see like a whole second difference in 0-60 times, which means the manual wouldn't sell and would die off anyway
9:20, the second dial is for adjustable headlight angle/range. Also from the intro, Audi's are and always have been a fantastic quality alternative to the others. Leveraging VW's low cost but high quality parts bin.
Audi as a brand seems different in europe and us. In europe it was known for rust and then rally and then more and more towards The high end. Equal to BMW and since AT least 90 ies

Correct. I’m surprised there so many people that do not know this especially reviewers like Doug who are or should be doing research before reviewing them.
Still looks sleek, modern, sporty. Simple interior, still rather luxurious (though not to todays standards). If I can afford this one day, I will get my hands on one of these earlier models.
That is such a fantastic looking car. Saw this in my recommendations alongside a whole bunch of other car videos and this just immediately popped out at me. It's sporty and very recognizable, but not garish and flashy. Beautiful proportions. Also damn, that's an incredible paint job.
Doug, the dial blank next to the dash dimmer dial is for the headlight angle adjustment control present on most European cars (& not US DoT compliant).
No xenon lights also go up and down. I suspect either american regulation or the most logical this car does not have a rear trunk to load extra weight so no need for a dial to lower headlight in order not to shoot straight into the eyes of the other direction drivers
Yes and no. Xenon could go up and down but doesn't, at least in Audis. Instead some kind of mirror inside the light goes up and down and regulates the light. As this is automatic, there is nothing to dial.
You are probably right. In Australia Xenon lights by law need to be auto levelling to avoid blinding people. My car has xenon lights so has a similar set up with a blank switch, I have seen that lower spec cars have a levelling adjustment.
I've always loved this car,I would choose it over the v10 r8, such a beautiful car, it reminds me of the original Astin Martin v8 vantage, both budget super cars. The original R8 is such a beautiful car, and will always look great.
Doug, at 5:09. The little window is to help with shoulder checks (something you probably never do), and it is there because it would also look so ridiculous to have such a huge window. If it wasn't there, you'd be complaining that the window is too big.
blank switch next to guage cluster lighting is for headlight position. when car is front or rear heavy (due to loading trunk or passengers the headlights need to be aimed down). The r8 doesnt face these problems due to lack of both so it is left blank. (EDIT) Doesn't need the switch due to Xenon lights
it is blank because apparently the xenon headlights were an option or they may have used, which is more likely, the light module of a car that didnt have xenons as standart.
In Germany most Cars have an other dial for changing the angle of the headlights, so if you have heavy stuff loaded in the back you can lower your headlight beams. Its often located where this Audi has the blank one.
God that engine note is so awesome! Sounds like it has 700 horses! And Doug never even mentions that. Wish it was a manual. And the styling is for me fantastic.
Yeah new one is far too much grill I'm sorry but more is not always more modern or as nice I mean the same thing happened with the Spitfire the old one with the Merlin had a nice sized engine & then the new one came out with the Griffon & was far too much engine same thing here just that it is too much grill rather than engine.
Audi owns Lamborghini, thus the Germans develop the Huracan. The R8 and Huracan are essentially the same car, the huracan being more of a "schoolboy, rapper, gotta go fast, crazy lines n shit" type of car, while Audi has decided their car needs to be a bit more made "for gentlemen, refined, classy". This is why the first gen R8 Doug has reviewed had a lot more brutality in it than the current newer gen R8. (Audi didn't own Lambo at first) You probably like brutality more than refinery, classy. Just my guess.
The other dial besides the dial for the brightness of the cockpit is to adjust the height of the lights if the car have ordinary halogen headlights. Xenon headlights have automatic height adjustment so the second dial is not built in. That's really common and was available in millions of other cars. And yes, the third cup holder in the middle is for an energy drink can!
This car looks after 10 years still very modern. What an awesome job by audis designer.

I always thought that when Audi released the R8 it should been what Honda did to the next generation NSX. It's like Audi copied the first generation NSX's formula of reliability, daily practicality, while improving on every performance aspect of what the first gen NSX was. I truly love the first gen R8 for these qualities.
but audi trashed the manual gearbox and gonna trash the V8 versions! soo sad! :(
Márk Vidéki I don't see any problem with having a Lamborghini V10 instead of a v8, and the DCT transmissions are so fast these days that having a manual would make it a lot slower and less impressive. You would see like a whole second difference in 0-60 times, which means the manual wouldn't sell and would die off anyway
Nobody:
Doug:you’ve probably seen 1 million r8s
Me:I barely even see r8s
I only ever saw one
Damn R8s are so common in Hamburg (second biggest City in Germany) i have seen at least 100 r8s on road
Ive seen more ferraris than r8's (Italy)

9:20, the second dial is for adjustable headlight angle/range.
Also from the intro, Audi's are and always have been a fantastic quality alternative to the others. Leveraging VW's low cost but high quality parts bin.

Audi as a brand seems different in europe and us. In europe it was known for rust and then rally and then more and more towards The high end. Equal to BMW and since AT least 90 ies

8:00 i think it's for cups with handles on it like tumblers and mugs.
Yes, possibly. I never thought of that.
Correct. I’m surprised there so many people that do not know this especially reviewers like Doug who are or should be doing research before reviewing them.
Without knowing, the small "cup holder" might be for a coffee cup handle
it's actually for the Ash Tray
i have same cup holder in my ford focus and it's perfect for these slim soda/red bull cans

Kabir Singh that's just the face lifted variant of the 1st gen r8 expect for different headlights nd taillights it's identical to the 2008 one

The blank dial next to the dimmer on VW cars is the headlight height
10 minutes and he couldnt figure it out 😂
Yep I've a VW and wanted to give him the same hint. Maybe it means that he never drive the VW classic :))))))
Thank you. The whole reason I started trolling the comments
And in this case the hated "blank switch" equals more equipment, not less, i.e. xenon or LED headlights instead of halogen.
In my SEAT, one controls the headlight angle, and the other controls the sensitivity of the automatic on/off headlights.
The TT was “The Car” in 2000, Audi had the balls to mass produce a Concept Car and For 50 grand. They did a similar thing with the R8
Same thing teslas doing. Watch people marvel about how well the cybertruck stands out in the modern day.

That is such a fantastic looking car. Saw this in my recommendations alongside a whole bunch of other car videos and this just immediately popped out at me. It's sporty and very recognizable, but not garish and flashy. Beautiful proportions. Also damn, that's an incredible paint job.
That third "cupholder" might be for handles on cups.
Michael Surfer my old VW had one and it fit a glass bottle (beer bottle type) perfectly
When these came out I was going to buy one until I remembered I didn't have $110,000.

351cleavland older model r8s are much cheaper now I've seen used ones for 76,0000-85,000 for a 2012 r8
Worlds smallest side window? Again Doug? I thought last weeks car had the smallest one
was the LFA last weeks? I didn't notice the date and I just started watching Dougs videos a few weeks ago. It was a YT suggested video for me.
This model is definitely my all-time favourite and dream car - especially the V8 version...
7:55 the middle hole between the cupholder is in case you need to put a mug or something with a handle into one of the cupholders.
Oh, well that seems obvious now that you say it.
According to you this is the 288th smallest window

Doug, the dial blank next to the dash dimmer dial is for the headlight angle adjustment control present on most European cars (& not US DoT compliant).
thats true (y)
The blanc dial is used to set the headlight hight. R8 has xenon so it is left blanc
Corrwct. Non xenon had manual adjuatment but xenon was auto adjustment done from high sensors on the suspension.

I LOVE the look of this car. This is easily my favorite looking car (aside from the 1970 dodge challenger). The R8 is one of my top 5 dream cars
I have to say i enjoy this design more than the new ones. Wonderful overview - thx Doug
You need to test a V-10 version as well. The sound from that thing is amazing
Doug, at 5:09. The little window is to help with shoulder checks (something you probably never do), and it is there because it would also look so ridiculous to have such a huge window. If it wasn't there, you'd be complaining that the window is too big.
tamer moustafa It's actually so you can have window the whole door but the whole window can go down and not leave and glass up like some cars do
Austin Wolfe did you have a stroke writing this comment?
I thought it was to help guide air into the rear engine vent even if the window was rolled down?
blank switch next to guage cluster lighting is for headlight position. when car is front or rear heavy (due to loading trunk or passengers the headlights need to be aimed down). The r8 doesnt face these problems due to lack of both so it is left blank. (EDIT) Doesn't need the switch due to Xenon lights
You're right, but it doesn't have the switch because it has xenon headlamps and the adjustment is automatic on any car with xenon.
it is blank because apparently the xenon headlights were an option or they may have used, which is more likely, the light module of a car that didnt have xenons as standart.
Not all Xenon headlamps have autoleveling in the US. It's a federal mandate in Europe, but not in the US.
the first gen of Audi r8 is my favorite one...
For the exclamation marks, it's not that they were excited. It's the fact that they are German and you can't speak German without yelling.

In Germany most Cars have an other dial for changing the angle of the headlights, so if you have heavy stuff loaded in the back you can lower your headlight beams. Its often located where this Audi has the blank one.
The small cup holder is for your mug handle.

In my personal opinion this one looks way better than the new one.
Thought it was just me who thought this
Yeah new one is far too much grill I'm sorry but more is not always more modern or as nice I mean the same thing happened with the Spitfire the old one with the Merlin had a nice sized engine & then the new one came out with the Griffon & was far too much engine same thing here just that it is too much grill rather than engine.
(Audi didn't own Lambo at first)
You probably like brutality more than refinery, classy.
Just my guess.
the new ones look like a bigger Audi TT
Das Corné Volkswagen owns all of them audi does not own lambo
the blank is/was for height adjustment of the light. this part is borrowed from something like a a6 or witch can come in halogen

sry i scrolled trough and did not find it
The other dial besides the dial for the brightness of the cockpit is to adjust the height of the lights if the car have ordinary halogen headlights. Xenon headlights have automatic height adjustment so the second dial is not built in. That's really common and was available in millions of other cars. And yes, the third cup holder in the middle is for an energy drink can!
