      Me owing an Audi I can also add this, in my case I have Xenon headlights so there’s no level slider to tilt the headlights since they are automatic. In my case I have a 2 position slider to turn on/off daylight running lights. Since in many euro countries laws don’t require daylights I guess that was just a way to make something of that blanc space and give you the option to turn them off or on.

But in reality, if someone is rich, they don’t need to buy expensive clothes to let people know they’re rich. Money talks, clothes don’t. It’s about using the money wisely, investing and profit. Not go on shopping sprees for clothes they’ll wear in the house outside of work. That’s why when people win the lottery, they go broke real quick. They just spend and spend instead of using the money wisely to try and make more profit.

Volvo specifically wanted cars to be more visible during the day. The idea lapsed until as you say, Audi reintroduced them back in '08.

    1) The small rear windows are there to make the side windows smaller in order to be able to roll all the way down into the doors.
    2) The little middle cupholder is designed for standard esspresso cup size which we drink in Europe.
    3) The blank dial next to the dimmer is usually for adjusting aim of the headlights. This R8 probably doesnt need that, or has some automatic system. So they used generic part which they use in all Audis, but left the dial blank.

    The little rotary dial next to the dimmer switch would have been to adjust the angle of the headlights in a European version of the car.

    • @florianj6490
      @florianj6490 5 лет назад

      No, not only in Europe. It's to adjust the height of the headlights if the car have ordinary halogen headlights. All over the world. ;-) But if the car have xenon headlights, like this one in the video, this dial is not built in, because xenon lights always have automatic height adjustment.

    • @davido4751
      @davido4751 5 лет назад

      I also think that it would have been for adjusting the headlights but apart from the xenon lights adjusting themselves, why even put self-adjusting headlights (or the dial to do so manually) in a car that doesn't have a trunk. Isn't the adjustment to compensate for a tilt due to more weight in the back than usual? If you can't put anything in the back, the car can't tilt, thus a compensation is completely unnecessary. But I still don't understand why they couldn't just manufacture a part without the dial. Are there versions of the R8 with trunks?

    • @florianj6490
      @florianj6490 5 лет назад

      @@davido4751 where are you from? I'm from Germany and have now inquired about the headlight adjusting regulations. In German road traffic, everything is really regulated by law. At Wikipedia Germany is written that from 1. January 1990 all cars must have at least manual adjustment if there is no automatic adjustment. Whether it is practically necessary (loading trunk etc.) does not matter. You are right on all points. It is therefore only due to the legal provisions in Germany. So it's like I've written before. Xenon headlights no manual adjustment dial, halogen headlights with a manual dial. This is also the case with all older cars here in Germany. This dial without function is really common on German cars with xenon headlights, If these xenon headlights were a paid option and replaced the halogen headlights. Nowadays, at least every higher priced car has an automatic adjustment (because of xenon, led or laser lights), therefore no more space for this dial. I hope you can understand my English. I'm sorry, Grammar isn't my favorite 😂

  • @HeisiTV
    @HeisiTV 7 лет назад +88

    I guess I know what the dial is for. Audi probably borrowed it from another model which needed it to adjust the height of the front lights in case the car has some heavy stuff in the trunk. Obviously, an R8 does not need that.

    For the blank switch next to the dimmer switch for the speedometer/tachometer/etc. That blank is supposed to be where your adjustable headlights roller switch would be. I'm originally from Cali and just moved to the U.K. and found this to be a thing. I bought an Audi TT and a Volvo S60 with that feature that you can't find in the states. It essentially allows you to fine tune where the non bright headlight resting position is. I find it very useful when going from a city setting to a country setting as you don't want to blind pedestrians and fellow drivers in the city, but in the country where there is more road than people, its better to see further out when you aren't using your brights!

  • @charliebartlett8362
    @charliebartlett8362 5 лет назад +1

    the second dial next to the gauge dimmer is to adjust the headlight level, its the same switch panel that audi use in the vw golf and a3. the idea is that if you have alot of luggage in the back the front of the car will pitch up so your lights would be shining in other drivers eyes, this guage allows you to point the lights down to stop this. since the R8 doesnt have storage in the rear this cant happen so you dont need the switch.
