Really good idea that you mention at the start to solve one problem per episode, that is in the title. Will encourage rewatching when I get the the same problem.
On the note of episodal content, I like the idea of each episode is about one specific thing, like this is titled Graphene, so later on, I can come back to this to get some inspiration towards my own builds. As for tutorials, they can be shorts off each episode, timelapsing the episode's main focus-build, maybe with a small segment where ratios are combed over, or something. Just a thought.

Yeah, I find your lets play as enjoyable entertainment, while at the same time using them as helping my learning curve. Most of us like to figure most of this stuff out on our own. I think of your video like training wheels. You show us how it is done. And then we go and try new things and have a better idea of what works really well, and then we try our way which most of the time doesn't work as well as you have it set up. But that is all part of the process of games like these.
I quite like the format, address what your overall goal is, what is required to get there. Sometimes it is a new production facility, sometimes it is to improve an existing production facility. This is more useful to us newbs than 'heres how to build a massive turbine factory'. It would be nice if you could do a small infographic when you discuss ratios and such but I understand this is a lot more work for minimal benefit.
OMG FINALLY you got lost looking for something! I was thinking, WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME?? I keep not finding these builds I made and Nilaus has his whole freaking planet memorized!
Nerds, who I assume the developers definitely are, usually remap Caps Lock to some kind of Super Key, for their tiling managers or similar 😅 Awesome series Nilaus, learning so much!
i have 3 types of colonies: 1. factories (they demand a full hub empty space and a lot of material, nomally an exaust mined lava planet is a perfect match) 16+ ILSs 2. processing plants (dedicated to collect and refine some mid-part) for example: hydrogen->deutherium 8-16 ILSs 3. gatherers (tiny hub with the "must go") 4 ILSs i set my planet types by final product of that planet. any ore with a single product is smelted/refined in the gathering, converting the gatherer in a processing plant. a planet can have all the 3 types of colonies running aside because as the planet get strip of raw materials may become a plain empty space to build a factory. a factory can have ANY propouse, like shooting solar sails, mounting a dyson sphere, storaging a abundant resource for later use (yeap, sometimes i set a place to be a buffer for some stuff i not needing at a time, like ACID, sometimes you need a lot sometimes a much more lot and is good to have a "timer" to set a new gathering without warping the the heart full of sadness by stoping factories and empty demanding ILS) a MUST HAVE to me is have a "big enough" factory to produce storages for buffering some critical stuff
I've started color coding the concrete so I know from 'on high' what's being produced there. Except the poles; they get Red at N, Blue at S so it's easy to see where I'm going to as I'm barreling in, because I'm bad at landing.
Odd note: I've been playing along with the Lets Play and thus far everything down to location and layout of each resource vein has been the same as Nilaus. When I got to the Fireice planet I have fire ice in my polar hub and not in my solar ring. On top of that it appears to be the third planet in his system and the fourth in mine. Seems possible there's variation even if you use the same seed number?
Why are you not allowing both local and remote demand? If something is vital for continuos supply, you'll be in trouble when there is no more local. Aren't you also bottlenecking some of the production that takes high quantity, by stockpiling in a single supply tower? I'd reckon it's easier having the tower that needs supplies, get it themself. It feels like a lot of micro managing for ressources. Other than that, keep the episodes coming 👌👍
My first game I got up to this point and realized I was making my factory lines north to south. Big mistake. East to west or West to East is the only way to ensure a smooth system in the sense of how we do things here. The one thing I love about your builds and this channel is the attention to the details of making everything look straight and tight. So I went ahead and used the console commands on my 2nd play though to keep from having to go back and forth when I forgot something. The game is still in the early stages and will have enemies at some point. So didn't mind doing a little cheating for training and time saving purposes. I know I will sink about a 1000 hours into this game like Factorio. Once the game is done with updates I will do a legit playthough without using any console commands. I will do so by placing my lines, buses and factories East to West for now on.
Thank you for your playlist. Can they add "highlight-copy blueprint" to the game so that it will be easy to copy an all ready layout which you may want to build again in the game. Or something like BLUEPRINT which you can you and keep for future use in the game. Thank you Nilaus!
@Nilaus.......Me, Myself, personaly......I would have gone ahead and put in the mining equipment on all the other deposits, iron, copper, etc.....You all ready built the Space ports...no real reason not to.
Random question as I saw on a few videos, how do you keep the foundations inside the grid. My hand isn't steady enough and i end up having a few escape the straight line. I couldn't find any hot keys. Example: you go east across the equator but dont want anything below the equator, do you press a hot key to keep it from placing below?
I spent SO LONG trying to fix my Graphene and Sulfuric Acid problems in between episodes 'cause I thought I had messed up somewhere following along. Turns out all I had to do was read the title of the next video 😅
what is the downside (as you see it) for not making Titanium Alloy at the planet you have the Sulfuric Acid on (as there is usually Titanium and Iron in good amounts on them)?
If he needed more Ti, he would build a smelting column, but all the interconnections would still be done through the logistics system. Think of it as the UNIX principle but for factory games. You want each part of your factory to build one thing, and build it well, and you want it to be trivially easy to pipe the output from any part of the factory to the input of any other part. Running everything through the logistics network facilitates following this principle. Your designs are, for all intents and purposes, programs written in the "visual programming language" Dyson Sphere Project. You want your blueprints (i.e. library functions) to be reusable across any planet, and using the logistics network as a standard interface makes that possible.
Is it really necessary to build one hub per mining patch? Wouldn't it be more efficient to route two or three patches that are close together into one hub? For me the warp on the Caps lock wasn't working somehow. I remapped it to ^ I don't think that button is used for anything else, and it's located very conveniently. (On my keyboard it's left of the 1; not sure if it's the same on yours.)
It doesen't really matter if you have no drones assigned to a hub - they can still provide materials even without power and will not have anything to use it on. Once you have hubs automated (which I highly recommend doing) you won't miss a few extra hubs per planet. AND you can increase throughput by assigning more drones.
because ILS can do anything and everything that a PLS can do, but it also works off planet. If you build a PLS and then need off planet then you are screwed. If all my mining planets need vessels then they need a lot of power to charge vessels for warping. All of that i avoid with my setup, which is anything but detrimental.
@@Nilaus I see your point but I just don't agree that it matters.. power can easily be shipped out in one form or another and it doesn't matter if it's spent on 1 planet or another for warping. To each his own I guess.
@@Nilaus I do agree with the "only requesters get drones/vessels" approach, but what I'm struggling with is the import hub concept. It seems like a good idea, and maybe it works great if you have everything in one system, or only have one ILS per out-of-system resource, but when you have one tower that's in charge of importing several different high-volume items from outside of the current system, it quickly becomes a bottleneck. It takes so long, even with warpers, to get to another system, that by the time your vessels get back with the second load, the first load has long been emptied from the tower, so they just keep fetching the same thing, and everything else just stalls because there are no vessels to fetch them.
