Don't bother sending your hydrogen production belt back into the oil cracking refineries, just add an input sorter right after the output sorter. Each cycle uses 2 H and produces 3, meaning it will take 2 back and send one. Until it's full and then it's almost all profit. Another tip: don't bother setting filters in your output sorters, just send everything down the same belt (one regular belt should be enough for about 3 or 4 machines) and filter it down the line using a splitter.
I watched this video today, after finally buying DSP yesterday and sinking 8 hours into it already... :D These tips help me out so much, they will make my next hundred hours of playing this so much easier!
Couple more tips: - R not only rotates buildings, it also changes the curvature of conveyors (e.g. from going north then west to going west then north - you can hit the delete key to remove a stack of items you have selected. - you can click on a belt to see and pick the item it has. - Setting a recipe on a building and then copying the building will have the recipe also carry over. This also apply to sorter filters.
Hey JD, did you know you can also drop items on a belt that has empty spaces in them by clicking the belt, open your inventory, take the stack of items and click-hold it on that belt item slot ;)
@@JDPlays This is how I've been transferring my Hydrogen since watching this video lol occasionally I'll just sort it onto the proper belt but sometimes I need a container quickly so I'll just manually set it on the belts, only goes as fast as the belt can go so Mk III's all the way to the tanks....

Here's an issue that came up last night. Fairly early game (graphite in thermals as my main source of base power) I had decided to tap all my home planet oil wells to a main equatorial bus. I thought I had generated enough power for this, but quickly found I was way oversubscribed. Turns out the long-distance poles actually take 90kW each, even when idle. This means when I was using around 30 of them I was using a significant amount of power, for nothing. I had to fly around and replace them all with multiple normal power poles. Lesson: Don't use the long-distance poles, for mass collection, before you get your other power sources up such as hydrogen thermal or your dyson swarm.
I watched this video in preparation for hopefully being able to play this game in a little while (once my new computer is build and up and running etc), while making some backups because it's always good to back up important files just before a big change like this, just in case. Good morning JD, a little off topic question. I have looked through the settings and I do not see where you can enable the FPS counter in the upper left and the N/S compass in the upper right.
I seen this wrong idea in a bunch of streans. People, you dont need sorters to fill up or empty your storage boxes. Build the box on top of a splitter, splitter will put items into box if there are no room on outgoing belts and will pull items out of the box if there no items on incoming belt. Bels will always have a priority, but the box will take any overflow. Limit the box so no overproduce items.
Great Video, I learned a lot! One further tip, maybe for a next video: You can distribute fuel from one thermal power station to the next using a direct sorter connection. I saw you doing it in your video, but maybe it's worth mentioning. (Edit: typo)
I'm a bit late with my comment, but I found a way how you can use the energy exchanger as a giant accumulator. It's not obvious because by default, an energy exchanger set to discharge will always discharge with maximum power, 45 MW that is even if you are producing power at a surplus. So you won't have the energy available when you really need whenever you have a deficit. The solution is to build a loop with two exchangers set to "charge" and one set to "discharge" with buffer chests in between them in both directions if the loop. Because the charging exchanger will offset the constantly discharging one. Now if you have a spike in power consumption and you need power, the exchangers which are charging will stop doing so, taking power out of the system. Once you're overproducing power again, the two chargers will charge faster than the one discharger thus recharging your accumulator.
finally got my green science up and running. I don't understand these photons and where I should process them, so if you want to do a tutorial about it, I'll be there 👍
The biggest problem i have with this type of games is that there is no Build In way to label my production. I always log back to a 10 hour playthrough and i get amnesia. No clue what this does and why that is there. How do I solve that?
A few things I would say. 1: storage is a waste of time and effort in most situations, but matrix cubes is a major exception. I would always funnel my matrix cubes into storage and then out again to use them, so that I have them buffered and don't waste production. It is extremely easy to produce research labs, compared to the difficulty of producing advanced matrix cubes, and your need is by no means constant. 2: if you feel lost, try to build the next matrix cube. I felt that a lot of the time, I was kind of aimless. I could build hundreds of things, but none of them seemed needed. The way I found to give structure to those production lines is just to try to build matrix cubes, which are fundamentally the win condition and motivates all your other advanced production. 3: early on, I feel it's silly to work on maximizing belts. Belts are an incredibly arbitrary and flexible unit of production. Focus instead on matching smelters to mines, to keep the mines running. Drop your miner, think "okay, that's 4 smelters worth of iron", so build your production around that. There is no need or reason to fill a belt, when you could instead match production to your mines. 4: do not build giant busses. this is silly. The reality is that there is a huge number of low end resources and each production chain does something completely different. There is no need to push tons of circuits past your electric motor factory. Electric motors don't need circuits. electromagnetic turbines don't. Supermagnetic rings don't. There is just no reason to build centralized buses in this game. It adds confusion, wastes space time and resources, and the end result is that a lot of resources just will never be needed elsewhere. If you need to join lines together, do it when and if you actually need to. An early omnibus makes no sense and just makes your base more confusing, costly, and space intensive. It's also just way easier to transport a finished resource, like say, electric motors, than a reagent, like magnetic rings. If I need a new advanced resource, I often just go out to the middle of nowhere to start mass producing it, rather than try to pull resources off some central bus and then add stuff TO a central bus. 5: for x ray cracking, I have seen a ton of overly complex designs. here's what you need to x-ray crack: hydrogen running past the refinery, and past that, oil. Going upstream to downstream, port 1 is hydrogen out, port 2 is oil, and port 3 is hydrogen IN. This means that the hydrogen output of the cracker feeds directly into it's own hydrogen input, which means it will not run out of input hydrogen. Then just send the graphite off to burn or join your matrix cube production or whatever. There is no need for any loop, or to tear out said loop when hydrogen becomes less desirable later. Just one hydrogen line, one oil line, and then a 1 tile gap every 2 refineries to collect the graphite.
