  • Noah Cyrus first came on this show a few years ago. She was 18 years old and working on an album that never ended up being released. As it turns out, she was at the start of a very serious downward spiral during that time. Four years later and she’s making a triumphant return with her powerful debut album, The Hardest Part. She sat down with Tom Power to share her story of depression, addiction, recovery, and how she eventually found her way with the help of her family and music.

    Noah, I went to your concert yesterday. It was a really long wait, and standing was hard, and people next to me said you looked sad/tired. I had a thought in my head that you looked really present even though you look extremely tired and maybe the word was “done.” It was the last day of your tour so I would assume you are done. Thank you for being so vulnerable, you don’t owe anyone anything. It is impossible for you to let anyone down Noah. You’re just a human like all of us. I know comments like mine probably won’t be read but if you do read it, I hoped you knew that it was worth my time being in the same place at the same time with you. When you sang “stand still” suddenly my feet stopped hurting. I am glad that you are getting the support you need because your song is one of the “tools” for many of us as we navigate these really challenging times in America. Wishing you all the best in your healing journey

      It’s funny you say that. I went to her concert in Fort Worth Stockyards and it was a long wait then! But, she killed it! I love her emotional and vulnerable side when she performs. You can tell she means what she sings.

    July is 100% my most listened to song EVER. I've always been a huge fan of Noah's but July was really what made me fall in love with her music. That is so crazy to me that her team didn't believe in that song. I feel like it's so authentically her voice and vibe. I am so glad she found a new team that looks out for her more than the last.

      I haven’t listened to one song of Miley’s. She doesn’t present herself in an admirable manner, just my opinion. The first time I heard July, I wanted to know who the artist is singing this beautiful song. I was taken aback when I read “Noah Cyrus”. I began listening to more of her songs and watching videos. July is one of my all time favorite songs. I wish her the best and hope she continues to be the adored lady she is.

      To each their own. Miley isn't my cup of tea personally, but I am able to admire her uniqueness and courage to be who she is. As for not listening to one Miley Cyrus song at least listen to " Wrecking Ball". It is a very good song.

    She is a gem, raw and iron clad. She is a brilliant song writer and has a soul penetrating and soothing voice. Fawk, can she ever tell a story, she takes you on a journey. By far, Noah and Tyler Childers are in a league of their own.. I never want her to sell out to pop..

    What a beautiful interview. I don’t think there’s anyone else out there quite as authentic, real, and genuine. So raw, vulnerable, and open to share real life moments. You can tell she doesn’t hold anything back. She speaks with such honesty.

    Heartbreaking what she went through! I remember her as the cute 8 year old with her big sis. I’m happy she is in a place where she can talk about her struggles with addiction and other young people can know they aren’t alone. ❤

    Haven’t been to many concerts but I’m so grateful I got to see her perform this album. She is such a beautiful human. Thank you Noah for giving us this gift. This album came out right at the time I was dealing with a harmful relationship myself, it gave me the strength I needed to move on. This album made me feel valid and still does. I relate so much to each song. I still listen all the time. Every single song hits ❤️

    CHILLS. CRYING. Noah, you will never be alone. As long as I'm alive you won't at least. I've been obsessed with the song/music video July since it's been out. I've honestly never knew your story, but it's INSANE how similar our stories are. Losing someone close to you WHILE going through addiction and then recovery? Is a whole different ball game. Feels like an emotional tornado. And for you and I and everyone else that successfully have fought (and still fighting) through that tornado? Makes us the strongest human beings on Earth BabyGirl...

    that makes me sad that she said she couldnt see people liking her or her music bc her music is beautiful the lyrics and the sound and it touched my soulll especially stand still she put out such an important message and people rely on her music for comfort when there sad or struggling shes so special and her music

    Dear Noah, I can’t even put in words how much your music means to me! How much this lyrics helped me through the grieve, loneliness and sickness… can’t explain how but the sound was like a shelter for me when I doubted in my existence! When The COVID attacked I lost the closest person in the entire world, after a while another one in both cases I couldn’t be with them… I had to look how my dear brother is struggling with a hardcore mental illness till he almost died…and I couldn’t do anything about that! My family was in tremendous pain. I lost my job and couldn’t find anything for months. My body and my mind started to suffer… I was locked in the strange City, far away from home for months… started to drink alcohol everyday till I was passing out so I don’t remember and don’t feel sadness… like it’s not enough I was struggling with my sexuality. I know exactly what you mean with “you must be willing to help yourself first”. In my case a real, unconditional Love helped me, love from the close ones that reminded my about loving myself. Through all this time your music was like a first aid kit to me… you have no idea how much it helped and for that Noah, I’m gonna be endlessly grateful. Love from Hamburg!

    Never heard of this young woman until today. A new fan I am. Much respect to her honesty and her courage. She has very good foundational instincts. Believing in her song, July, when others didn't is testament to Noah recognizing her own self worth. I imagine in the cut throat music industry that took great courage on her part? At 58 years old myself dying of a chronic illness, I would share the wisdom that a wasted life is one lived in fear. Clear, concise and committed life is best lived in the here, and now. Cease the day everyday. Best wishes for your future happiness, Noah!

    I was on heroin for years before anyone noticed. It was because I was in so much pain and drugs made me feel better. I was self medicating. Ironically herion is the reason I didn't kill myself but there comes a point where your chasing normalcy....I finally realized that I was not only numbing the pain but the joy too. If you're struggling with drugs please know that it is possible to live happily without them. I'm better than I've ever been.

    I totally relate to her comment about the light in her eyes. 18 to me seems like an older age to fall into things but that’s from a gal who did sea and drank at 12 😂 by 18 I was tired of partying and sober but had a breakdown at 22 and used multiple drugs and finally five years later a month ago from today decided to get help and reclaim my life

    I truly have never ever related to someone more. She’s so raw and honest. I appreciate it so so much. I went to her concert and it was the best one I’ve ever been to. It Healed a lot of my old childhood wounds to see her in the same room as me and have her almost sing a lullaby

    The end of everything saved me when I couldn't walk. I was so depressed and addicted and in such a dark place. I never thought I would find my way out of that. Here I am sober and expecting a child ❤ Noah all the good vibes to you beautiful and anyone that is struggling. It's not forever I promise ❤

    It’s the first time I watched Noah‘s interview. I remember her as a kid and since I’m much older, I never listened to her music. The last album I find very nice, though. And I’m very sad to hear how difficult was the time for such a young person. I hope, you’re doing well now and I hope that the time you spoke about will forever stay the hardest time of your life and stay in the past. You seem to be such a beautiful persona and it’s great that nevertheless, you have a good and loving family. Wish you all the best.

    This is a great interview. I love the respect from the interviewer. I’ve always felt a heavy feeling listening to Noah and I absolutely resonate with a lot of it. I hope she continues with her music and individuality 🖤
    And side note I absolutely love miley but I would never compare the two musically, they’re so different but both so freaking talented.

    i was heavily addicted to xanax at the same time noah was. i loved her music & i had a feeling she was using xanax as well. now being sober from xanax, it’s really awesome to see her doing well too. it’s a hard addiction to overcome

    I feel like famous rich kids call experiencing drugs an addiction to show their "vulnerable" side or to show the world they "suffered". Just remember folks, her "addiction" is a roof over her head, bills paid for, not losing money or family, able to quit drugs and bounce back without any actual kind of struggle. I really don't sympathize for her

    I noticed both her and Miley have the same hunched turned in shoulders. Other than the top lip injection her profile is so similar to her sister.
    She has an amazing singing voice but the music and songs lack life or the punch per se.
    Miley has had many more years of experience so she had lots of people helping her...Noah seems to be doing it on her own. I don't know if the music is going to go anywhere as it stands, but if she gets help and changes it up a bit, she would do really well. Beautiful smooth voice though.

    Seems like nowdays if you do not deal with 1. Addiction 2. Depression 3. General medical issues, etc you are not trendy but a boring person. Guess what sweetheart... get a life, try something else..
