      Once the subprime auto loan bubble pops, maybe they will drop the price. We can hope. $50k for a truck with electrical problems during the initial build is a warranty time bomb waiting to happen. Especially one that so heavily relies on electronics.

      You don't have to get the short bed, though it's plenty useful for a lot of folks. My personal preference is the 6'4" because my atv just fits in with the gate closed. If you need more truck bed, get less cab or step up to a 2500 series.

    to the people complaining about the shift knob:
    remember when column mounted high/low beam light stalks first came out? people didnt like them because they were initially unfamiliar technology. but what is going to wear out more: someone stomping on a switch with a 20 30 40 pound leg or someone lightly flipping a switch with their fingers? same principle. you can wither jam a multi link shifter up and down with your arm or lightly twist a fully electronic knob. intrinsically a lightly used rotary electronic knob will far outlast a mechanical shifter

    • @brandoncaldwell95
      @brandoncaldwell95 5 лет назад

      Try having the 4x4 and shift knob in the same location then tell me how you like it.. Go to put it in park and you engage 4x4 by accident.

    The first 2 minutes is a summary of why people who NEED a truck cant efford a new one. Out of curiosity I stopped at a Ford dealership that had over a 100 new trucks and they had 1 that I could find under $40K. Chevrolet used to sell WTs at their dealerships. These trucks normally had AC, AM/FM, automatic transmissions, and a V-6. Basically a fleet type vehicle, but sold to individuals and kept in stock at dealership. Need more of these for people who want a truck as a "second" car.

      I was thinking Cadillac. To each his own, but I agree with you. I had a lone star package on a 1500 Eco diesel. I didn’t use 95 percent of any of the extra junk, I now have a plain Jane tradesman 2500 and love it. If I want to shift into 4wd I have to reach down and manually move the lever, old school style.

    • @TheAceInfinity

      So your opinion is that you can't have it all? It's all or nothing? That's the silly part about your statement. IMO it's good to have options available rather than go with the bare minimum for what you need. Extra luxury and more options don't make this any less of a truck. It still has 4x4 and looks like any other pickup truck. In your own words "a truck is a truck" - doesn't matter wtf options it has...

      Price is entirely driven by demand. These could sell for $30k and they would net massive profits. It's just that they have trouble building enough verse the other way around. Average sale price is at $45k right now. Ram has an easier time than Chevy and Ford because their target market aren't work trucks. They leave the work trucks to the heavy duties. It's mostly people who want to daily a pickup.

      @@cat-lw6kq offroading is a recreational activity, a luxury. I don't know why people seem to think using a vehicle for offroading makes the vehicle valuable considering it's a luxury hobby. I really want Ford to re-introduce a new F-100 with the 300 CID I-6 and a standard transmission, and the minimum of options. Give us AC, power brakes, power steering, and a rubber floor mats and monthly payments less than a middle class 1500 sqft house.

      I bought a new '17 Ram as stripped as I could find in fact dealer had to find one a couple states away. It was a regular cab, 6 cylinder, 4WD which is what I wanted but it had 2 options I didn't really care about. Customer preference group which is power windows and locks, and the chrome package grille, front rear bumpers. Had 1 option I needed was tow package. That's it. Window sticker was $34K. Paid $29K. Base price of standard cab 4WD that year was $29K. That would be with black grille and bumpers, manual windows, rubber floor mat instead of carpet, no tow package. That was 3 years ago now so probably same stripper truck today is $31K at least and try to find one. Dealers won't stock them...perhaps 1 or 2 white ones for businesses usually but most of the trucks on dealer lots are $40K and up Quad cabs. I'm done buying cars this Ram WILL last me the rest of my driving life. I got the lifetime bumper to bumper every nut and bolt warranty with it that Chrysler doesn't offer any more for $3K extra but I think that is cheap insurance for a lifetime. Hopefully Chrysler doesn't ever fold....

    • @brandoncaldwell95
      @brandoncaldwell95 5 лет назад

      Actually look at the 3 compared. They all have one LED lights making the need for smaller light housings. That gave the chance to optimize cooling. With that said, Mopar has held closer to their roots compared to the other brands. I personally disgusted with GM. Ford is ok, but modern/future. Ram has kept is simple and clean as thy always have. Its a truck, not a showcase and if you want every bell and whistle, they do offer it but still hold true to their roots of a classic country design. If you really have an issue with it, then dont buy one as RAM will not go full modern and keep is safe rolling out designs and options people really desire vs the BS crap ford forces upon people.

    Love my ‘19 Ram. I have the same one he tested with one change. I went with sport trim and upgraded packages because I don’t like chrome. I also went with the 4x4 off road package, which includes rear diff locker, skid plates, and 3.93 gear ratio. Tows my 30’ camper like a dream! Can’t stand the “off road” sticker though. Looks ridiculous on the truck.
    I don’t know where they’re averaging 18.6mpg. That must have been highway only. I average 17.8 - 18.1 with my combination driving.
    Overall, it’s a great truck. The 4x4 works very well, and, with coil springs in the rear, it’s the most comfortable 1/2 ton on the market.

My point is, no one's making a work truck no more and we are using old tech and trucks because of that reason. We need to bring the early 2000s back so we can have the best of both worlds. If you got the money to burn then great for you, however the lower end models have useless feature in it same as this one. Pick-up truck = work truck. Disappointed Ram keeps pushing high features on all its models (including the 2500 and 3500).

      You can still get a brand new bare bones 2017 model Ram truck for $26,495 or a new 2018 for $27,095. - and those are the MSRP sticker prices. You can probably get them a few grand cheaper if you find a good dealership.

    • @ShmuelWeintraub
      @ShmuelWeintraub 6 лет назад

      Agreed Jake, they aren't really work trucks. I guess that is not what people want, because you don't often see the base model regular cabs on lots anymore. Quick check on AT shows less than 30 base model reg cab pickups within 500 miles of me for sale. And some of those are not true base models... they are the reg cab short box blacked out boy racer trucks with 20" rims and Pirelli Scorpions from factory.... not work trucks.

    • @ShmuelWeintraub
      @ShmuelWeintraub 6 лет назад

      Zachary: You could certainly order a base model with what you want in it... but then you'll pay full sticker price. Where I live I haven't seen any base models on lots... no end to the mid and upper range crew cab/leather/nav loaded models, but next to no base units.
      Is that because not many people buy them or because the dealers don't make enough money off them or because the manufacturers aren't making many?
      If it's truly supply and demand, then there should be enough supply to meet demand... which it seems there isn't.

    • @zzanatos2001
      @zzanatos2001 6 лет назад

      I never buy off the lot. I either order what I want, or I hire a broker to find it for me. It also saves me a lot of money because brokers buy lots of cars every year and get volume discounts that regular customers couldn't even dream of. When I bought my 4Runner, the best deal I could negotiate was $41,000, but a broker got me the exact same vehicle for $36,000.

    • @ShmuelWeintraub
      @ShmuelWeintraub 6 лет назад

      The broker thing is an interesting idea, thanks. Hadn't considered that. Do you pay the broker a fee as well or do they "keep" some of the savings they negotiate for you (IE: you pay $36k to the broker but they only pay $34,500 to the dealer for the car)?

    The thing that bothers me with these loaded up "yuppie" trucks is, what are they going to be like in 5to 10 years? Imean, everybody has seen the lincolns, caddys, mercedes, and other luxury vehicles and what they look like and the electrical probs they have and seem to get when they get older.

    • @ShmuelWeintraub
      @ShmuelWeintraub 6 лет назад +1

      It's a problem. But it might not be the original owner's problem. Studies show that truck owners are getting to be like commuter car owners... very few own the truck long enough to complete the original financing contract.
      Roll that financing over, then find out four vehicles later that you still owe more than the original purchase price of the first one. Oy.

    I don't get why people complain about the shifter knob. I don't want a giant steak knife handle in the middle of my console taking up all my space. I'll leave the model T shifter technology to the Fords and GMs of the world.

      I don't like the console shifter at all but I really like the column shift in my 2010 Ram and don't feel it takes up any space. I'm used to shifting my truck by feel and not having to look at an indicator to see what gear I'm in but I love the new Ram 1500 so I'd give the dial a shot.

      My first car had a push button automatic with a park bar. The shift knob took a little getting use too. But the rest of the truck with my Ram Boxes is so Great it's worth getting used too. And it does free up the console for extra storage.

      Took me about 1 day to get used to. I’m totally sold on the convenience factor. Anything else available in a truck doing what I expect a truck to is outdated anymore. I’ll save the power shifting for a hobby car should I ever decide to get one. Also, I’ve purchased two brand new trucks in my lifetime with manual shifting (one was a factory order). Just not needed for how I use a truck.

    • @vdelrio999
      @vdelrio999 6 лет назад

      @Zayne Exactly. If it's not a manual transmission, then I don't want an auto shifter taking its place. Dash knob or "old school" column shifter then.

    Better and better depending on your outlook. When people who don’t need trucks buy trucks, they become more car like, and too expensive. 50K for any pick up is ridiculous. If it doesn’t have a clutch, I’m not interested.

      Joshua Taylor cool, but I don’t have use for a diesel, I’d like a 1/2 ton, V-8 gas, 5 or 6 speed manual, and 4X4 for $25K, but that truck doesn’t exist. It did in 2005.

    Out of the three trucks it's lost the least amount of weight, I would say in terms of exterior design it's not as good looking as the new GMC Sierra, but the interior is definitely top of the competitors in terms of design and material quality.

    "Pickups" are looking more like generic half-scale semis, & have more electronic shit in them than even Japanese tuners ever dreamed of having. Add in the ridiculous prices (artificially increased even more by insanely long financing periods), and a new (non-fleet) pickup is most often either a status symbol, or a soccer mom's "safety" pipedream. Trucks (& cars) are going to shit now faster than they were in the late 1990s-esrly 2000s, at least as far as actual workers who actually use them for actual work are concerned. They're overpriced, under-performing sacks of electronic shit. And they all look like there are only 3 models. There's the F150/Silverado/Sierra/Titan/Tacoma, the Tundra/Ram, & the Colorado/Canyon/Ranger-to-come. Unbelievably, styling has gotten *worse* since the 1990s instead of better. And don't even get me started on the insane sizes & ride heights of new pickups. It's sad that soyboys & butch broads finally managed to destroy the pickup for normals.

    My 2014 Laramie is already a spectacular, awesome truck. Can’t wait to move up to 2019 this time going for ecoDiesel. Simply fantastic trucks. Only complaints: alpine stereo needs to be louder, too much bass emphasis, and it needs a cabin air filter. The Hemi is absolutely the best engine!

      Amen brother. Had an 83 (last year for the F100) with a 3 speed on the column. IMHO, the 300 CID was one of the best engines ever made. My father bought it so I would have something to drive to school (20+ miles away). Think he paid $8500 new for it, and with all the highway miles it did mid 20s on MPG. 35 years later, new trucks have a hard time matching that.

      Because I was an 18 year old idiot in 1985. Thought I wanted a car when I moved back into a city. Miss that truck? Saw it about 5 years ago sitting in a parking lot. If I ever see it again Im going to leave a note on the window with contact info in case the owner wants to sell it.
