Stallone took Rambo to a whole new level with this one. No wonder why Rambo became a character in Mortal Kombat later on. So much gore, so many fatalities.
Damn I saw the movie last night and thought the EXACT same thing! I said to myself, well, that’s why he’s in MK11. Never seen a Rambo film before this one, I assumed the violence was more 80s cheese than anything, this movie set me straight on that assumption.
I kinda wanted some dialogue between Rambo and Sarah at the very end. I know the long-distance staredown was supposed to be like a silent "I told you so" moment, but I still felt like we needed to at least see Sarah thank Rambo for everything he did.
Rambo is a study in PTSD. "You can't just switch it off." Stallone brought back his two iconic characters to give them a proper send-off. Last Blood and Rocky Balboa.
This movie took Rambo and brought him back to his a more grounded and real place. It took the cartoonish feel of the previous movie and made things real
"There is no easy solution, there is no easy answer..." Don't you mean THERE'S NO EASY WAY OUT THERE'S NO SHORTCUT HOME THERE'S NO EASY WAY OUT GIVIN' IN CAN'T BE WROOOOOOOONG!
Been a Stallone and Rambo fan ever since I was a kid in the 80s. I watched this movie in theaters, opening weekend. I was suffering through some depression and just the adrenaline rush from this movie, especially the final action scene, helped me A LOT! lmao it sounds like a joke: Rambo Cured My Depression! But it KINDA did 🤣
Julie Benz was memorable in "As Good As It Gets," The Boondock Saints 2, and in the Buffy, Angel, and Dexter series. She has played both meek and fierce characters.
This and Rocky Balboa helped revitalize Sylvester Stallone's career, then followed this up with the Expendables franchise. His more recent films also include Escape Plan and Bullet to the Head. This version is the extended director's cut, whereas the theatrical version is more streamlined
He knew that he was on a major second wind and kept the ride going. Physically as well. Late 50s-early 60s. Looking as cut and healthy as the young dudes.
Great and entertaining review! The C4 didn't trigger that explosion, alone. Rambo spots an unexploded British "Grand Slam" bomb from World War II beforw asking Schoolboy for the Claymore to slap onto it. It was that 6,000 lbs bomb that did it. Looking forward to Rambo 5 review! Please do it sooner than later! Btw, this is my first RUclips comment in like 4 years lol
The Grand Slam bomb was 22000 lbs not 6000 (9200 lbs of Torpex in each). The first variant was Tallboy which was 12000 lbs But in real life what you see is not possible. Grand slam was designed to hit the ground, penetrate, then detonate leaving a cavern which would collapse. It would never be sticking out of the earth on the surface. It was also only used in Europe, 617 Sqn never deployed to the East
In the scene where he led them to the hidden Claymore and it blew up he hid the Claymore next to the Old World War II bomb that they saw when they arrived there and when the Claymore blew up it set the bomb off which is why the explosion was so big and that's why he led them there so he can set the bomb off
He put the claymore right next to that "Tallboy" bomb. Those had 12,000lbs of explosive in them, and would still be dangerous af even 80yrs later. The claymore caused a sympathetic explosion in the Tallboy, hence the pressure wave we see in the forest :)
This movie had so much depth. Rambo being the retired vet who’s given up on trying to save the world is such a powerful concept. All his life as a soldier he was told he would change things and in the grander scheme of things nothing will ever change, there will always be war and brutality no matter how many times you fight. And when he told the missionaries to “Go home” and “You’re not going to change anything” he was giving them the warning he never had.
In a day when studios are hesitant to make a movie a super hard R to not limit box office, I'm so glad Stallone pushed the limits of what he could do in this film.
Acting, writing and directing all at once. Stallone calls this the 'Sleepless job'. He's done it a lot, doesn't hate on it and it's been clear on what he's signed up for.
Great reaction dude... When you do the next one in the series, Rambo: Last Blood (2019) make sure you watch the Extended Cut/International Version (that was the version that both Stallone & the director made, which is over 15 mins longer and has a lot more character development, depth, more to the stoylines, and dramatic moments - before Lionsgate distribution company heavily edited the film under 89 mins for the US theatrical cut). It is a 1,000 times better than the US theatrical cut in my opinion. Keep on with the reactions man, love your vids. 👍
@@antoinettelopes - I think that there is a full length version of it (for free) on RUclips streaming (it runs for 1hr 41min/101 mins - that way you know you've found the right one). I know Amazon has it (but I have no idea if it's still free prime or just available for rental)....
That pissed me off... I actually saw the UNCUT first at a event and loved it. Then saw the regular release later and was pissed... I was like this is NOT the same films. I'm a editor and 15 mins is A LOT of footage. A entire episode of a sitcom is 22min.
Yes, both versions (101 min vs. 89 min) are on Amazon Prime U.S., but neither version is Free With Prime. Just Rent/Buy. Now and then a bootleg copy of the 101 shows up on RUclips, but it will typically either be dubbed all in Spanish, or else will be the U.S. theatrical audio but without subtitles for the Spanish. So, Prime is the only sure way to get a full-effect copy. I agree that the full version is much better. The full version was the theatrical release everywhere in the world except the U.S., U. K. and Canada. Someone decided at the last minute to do a re-chop, after there were already publicity photos of Rambo in the rain slicker and cowboy hat out there. I don't know the reasoning.
I have another great Sylvester Stallone movie that is under rated but very good. (Lock Up) Sylvester Stallone, Donald Sutherland and John Amos. I think you'll really like it. You got one more Rambo after this one.
Part of Stallone's trinity for comeback success in the 2000-2010s. After Rocky Balboa (2008) and before The Expendables (2010). Announcing his return to the role of John Rambo as well as writer and director of part 4. Exploring The Saffron Revolution and protests against the ruthless SPDC was a very smart statement for Stallone. Also he felt that Rambo could certainly battle against such a travesty. This movie made history. It was the first to have a Red Band Trailer. The studio didn't just want to give us a look at some average footage. They presented Rambo doing what he does best and it was mind blowing. Millions of views for what would be the first in a new trend of standard promotion and it worked. So much praise for this installment. Going deeper than deep with the Rambo character and his path between war and peace. In the reviews, the key words were 'Stallone & Legend' and that sounded so good to hear. If this was suppose to be Stallone's last hurrah as Rambo, it did exactly what it was suppose to do.
Loved the review!!! What you saw at the start of the film is basically what he was doing for 15-20 years. That's it, Rambo lives a simple life of survival.
I'm glad you liked it just don't forget there's a fifth one and I can't wait to see the reaction there yeah for Ramble full has a lot of explosive violence I understand this fourth installment I'm glad you liked it in a way but enjoy the fifth one don't listen to any negativity that says about it it's still a little very good rambo last blood very good reaction man.
Sorry if anyone has already mentioned, but the guy who plays the Burmese dictator is actually a Karen rebel IRL. He knew playing this role would put an even bigger target on his back, but wanted to make sure people knew how much evil was going on over there.
My best friend is a English teacher in yangon Burma, I watch this with him when came back to visit Canada.. I jus remember him laughing at Stallone when he talked Burmese because it was accurate but had the Stallone accent lmao.
Not sure I've ever seen a more graphically violent movie. This had to be the most kills by any individual in any movie. The 50 caliber is an amazing round. capable of dropping someone 2 miles away. Up close you can't even hide behind concrete since armor piercing rounds can penetrate 3 ft of concrete or an inch of armored Steel. I don't believe the last scene of Rambo returning home was actually at Dewey Arizona. I grew up in the 60s on a ranch outside Prescott not far from there. And there was a mailbox out there that said Rambo. Lol and the terrain is similar. From my first memory in the '60s till around 20 years ago my last time through there. Adventure to say in 20 years it's nothing but wall the wall houses.
Great reaction man! I love how your reaction is a mixture of shock, disbelief and enjoyment, LOL. They definitely ramped up the level of violence and darkness in this movie
I have to point out that when he shot the gaurds with the 50 cal he suddenly has a slincer that you never see. Plus no 50 cal is going to be anywhere close to that quiet. They do make a slincer for a Barret 50 cal, but they just recently made one. I know it's a movie, but had to point it out.
I'm glad you saw the "extended cut" of Part 4, make sure your see 'extended' or 'un-cut' version of 5 as well. Love all the films, but my Rank: 1,4,5,2,3 - 3 is the only one I don't love, but its still fun.
The best Rambo IMO. This movie passed with an R rating by only one vote. It was almost NC-17. Still it is the most brutal/violent movie to ever be released in US theaters. Visit the “Free Burma Rangers” for those who want to help those people over there.
4:20 - Not sure if you had subtitles for this part and just cropped them out, but his words here were every bit as brutal, merciless, and chilling as you'd expect from this guy and his group of "merry" men.
When I saw this in the theaters and the first arrow hit everyone started cheering and the last hit everyone cheered again..and of course when Rambo appeared from behind that guy
This version of Rambo is how he was portrayed (violence wise) in the novel "First Blood", but not necessarily the movie "First Blood" where he only killed one person.
As some people have commented here; Please make sure you search for the "Extended cut" of the "Rambo:Last Blood" as it was shown in europe and SHOULD'VE been shown in the U.S theaters. The U.S cut butchers some of the crucial story setups that pay off later in the film.
I love watching your reactions man! If you plan on watching Rambo: Last Blood, watch the extended version/director's cut. The theatrical one leaves out some very important stuff and in my opinion, not nearly as good.
This movie was awesome. The last movie Rambo: Last Blood wasn’t as good but still good. The ending montage at the end of that movie is great, very emotional.
In the directors cut there’s a scene where Rambo tells to the Missionary or humanitarian aid woman about war and human nature and basically why he’s like that which given Rambo’s experience in nam (which i believe there’s a comic about it being made) and his experiences in First blood part 1 and 2 and Rambo 3, understandable that he would want to live in piece picking up snakes or helping with building a church in Thailand and now having to go through Burma where civilians and villages are brutalized by the army there after a coup.
This unfairly got slammed by critics and is way underrated. Mainstream doesn’t like when you shine a light on things that actually happen, like this crap in Burma, but it’s real. And the violence was warranted.
The raw news footage of the dead, decaying bodies was fucking gruesome, but as you so aptly put it, shines a light on the brutality and the violence of that region.
the crazy thing on the topic at the time they made this movie this crap was going down in Burma they didnt make this crap up solid social commentary like the rocky movies you can actually get a lot out of them
I was bummed they didn’t play the actual song It’s A Long Road. Someone here on RUclips actually did an edit putting the song in the closing credits and man I was right it fits so well. And like many others have said I too agree that this should’ve been it and Last Blood could’ve been passed on. Cause this was full circle for Rambo. He’s finally home and can get some peace on his family’s ranch
When making this movie Stallone actually got arrested flying in or out (can’t remember) to Australia (where they filmed) with a huge duffle bag full of steroids. He was heavy dosing as you can see by the fact he’s about 4 times bigger than he usually is 😂
Great reaction, bro! Can't wait to see your reaction to Last Blood. Another good Stallone movie you should check out is Nighthawks. It, pretty much, has an all-star cast. Billy Dee Williams, Rutger Hauer, Lindsay Wagner, Persis Khambata, Nigel Davenport, even the actor who played the loanshark Rocky worked for in the first two Rocky films.
When I was in Afghanistan we stole a Russian Dischka off the back of a truck.. and used it against them lol but it stopped working after like 2 days so we just ended up blowing it up
That bomb that went off was made from the British mostly used the tallboy bombs also known as earthquake bombs on the germans. The British used the tallboy bombs on the tirpitz sister ship to Bismarck, u boat bunkers and bomb Germany. I have to say besides the nuclear bombs dropped on Japan the British also made a impressive bomb during WW2.
I wish my dad had been alive to see this one come out. Without question, he would have definitely stuck it out with me. He was always the one bringing me to see all of the classic 80s action flicks with him (Rambos, Rockys, Terminators, Commando, Predator, etc).
I wish he hadn't made the fifth one. I begrudgingly went and saw this when it came out, because I love and grew up with Rambo, but I figured it would be bad. Holy hell was I ever wrong!!! I did not like 5 though. I wish he had finished on a high note.
The reason why I like Stallone is because he makes films that have unadulterated alpha male energy without any silly feminist undertones agendas. He makes real movies.
Had Rambo: Last Blood been about him trying to save an Iraq veteran that was in the same situation John himself was in in First Blood, then Rambo 1, 4 and 5 would be the perfect trilogy.
@@CaptainHair2unfortunately, this is a watered-down version of what actually happens over in Burma. That's how bad it is over there
Was he around 62 years old in 2008?
That’s crazy !
Always remember that before John Wick, there was John Rambo. By the way, the theme song in this movie is really touching.
The reason Stallone used so much violence was what he called punishment for the villains being so evil.
Just going to say... The ending to this movie was just so damn PERFECT... LITERALLY PERFECT.
The violence in this is so strong and graphic, it was slapped with an NC 17 rating, until Stallone had to cut out some footage to gain an R Rating.
Wow, is there any version out there which has the deleted footage?
The director's cut
Because of this, the movie made history.
It produced the first-ever Red Band trailer.
Millions of views.
Can you imagine the raw version
Don’t think this was cut for an R. The director’s cut just had extra scenes, no extra gore.
This movie took Rambo and brought him back to his a more grounded and real place. It took the cartoonish feel of the previous movie and made things real
The theater release is Rated-R, but the Director's cut is so graphic and I loved every bit of it.🤣🤣

THERE'S NO SHORTCUT HOME
THERE'S NO EASY WAY OUT

Stallone looks like an older Solid Snake or Naked Snake when he is standing on the hill at the end
When Rambo obliterated the two guys in the jeep I stood up and cheered at the pure over the top carnage…….I’m not sure what that says about me.🤣

Rambo went full Mortal Kombat in this piece.
15:13.. " with his bare hands"... bro Col Trautman wasn't kidding when he said " Rambo is the best with guns, knives and his bare hands"

YES! I was hopeing youd go right into rambo 4 after 3. This was such a cool welcomed resurgence after no movies for like 15 years
Rambo took off the gloves and brought some reality with him. Prepare yourself for some Last Blood, just as vicious as this one. Good stuff.
I’m waiting to see his take on Last Blood. The last 25 minutes are just brutal beyond measure….. and I loved it.
When he holds on that 12.7mm at the end I wanted to stand up and cheer him on in the theatre :) 🤣😂

This unfairly got slammed by critics and is way underrated. Mainstream doesn’t like when you shine a light on things that actually happen, like this crap in Burma, but it’s real. And the violence was warranted.
The raw news footage of the dead, decaying bodies was fucking gruesome, but as you so aptly put it, shines a light on the brutality and the violence of that region.
i love the rambo theme song.
The next Rambo the ending is bad ass
Great movie! Tanks ...see you in Rambo -Last Blood. Congrats from Brazil 🇧🇷👏.
the crazy thing on the topic at the time they made this movie this crap was going down in Burma they didnt make this crap up solid social commentary like the rocky movies you can actually get a lot out of them
Funny thing is the guy that plays the Burmese general is actually a Karen hero.
He was heavy dosing as you can see by the fact he’s about 4 times bigger than he usually is 😂
Definitely watch last blood! It’s a little different but still great in it’s own way
Great reaction, bro!
Please react to Last Blood! It's one of the best in the Rambo franchise. I've loved your reactions, all the Rockys and Rambos.
When I was in Afghanistan we stole a Russian Dischka off the back of a truck.. and used it against them lol but it stopped working after like 2 days so we just ended up blowing it up
LOVE THIS REACTION FROM YOU DUDE, AS YOU SAID...THIS!... IS A RAMBO MOVIE....HELL YEAH😁😀💥
That bomb that went off was made from the British mostly used the tallboy bombs also known as earthquake bombs on the germans. The British used the tallboy bombs on the tirpitz sister ship to Bismarck, u boat bunkers and bomb Germany. I have to say besides the nuclear bombs dropped on Japan the British also made a impressive bomb during WW2.
exelente amigo.. gracias x el film
You got to watch a Rambo: Last Blood movie
Great reaction…lovin all the Sylvester Stallone….I recommend 2 more of his movies……“ASSASSINS “ & “EYE SEE YOU”
Stop or my mom will shoot as well! Lol I'm jk
The kill count in this movie is off the charts and I loved it!
Saw this in the theater with my dad. Some people walked out due to the gore including the couple in front of us.
They couldn't handle rambo awesomeness
I wish my dad had been alive to see this one come out. Without question, he would have definitely stuck it out with me. He was always the one bringing me to see all of the classic 80s action flicks with him (Rambos, Rockys, Terminators, Commando, Predator, etc).
I wish he hadn't made the fifth one. I begrudgingly went and saw this when it came out, because I love and grew up with Rambo, but I figured it would be bad. Holy hell was I ever wrong!!! I did not like 5 though. I wish he had finished on a high note.
Yeah, I was hoping he would finish on a high note too in 5.
The reason why I like Stallone is because he makes films that have unadulterated alpha male energy without any silly feminist undertones agendas. He makes real movies.
Great watch bro! Gotta get u on my show one of these days🤘🏼
Man this guy is one of my favorite reactors what happened? He hasn’t uploaded in like 7 months
Had Rambo: Last Blood been about him trying to save an Iraq veteran that was in the same situation John himself was in in First Blood, then Rambo 1, 4 and 5 would be the perfect trilogy.
