This generation will fade away, gone but throughout their 60 years living after the war is bonus for them to teach and pass their memory and memoirs about their sacrifices for freedom we enjoy today, grim reminder the past shouldn't happen again.
Indeed, Im a Gen Z but I truly look up and and respect the Greatest Generation.. that is the men and women that fought and labored in WWII. The men that also went through hell just to give us a paradise. Semper Fi 🙏🏻
@OfficialMalone1 oh really? I thought I saw shawn ryan post about his passing in the summer. My mistake thanks for the clarification! I hope he continues a healthy life!
@ yeah there was another marine vet by the same name who sadly passed, but this Don will be turning 100 next year. It was really easy to get them mixed up.
17:37 "Get it on Amazon" him saying that made me smile so much. So sharp to the modern world telling the young kid what to do hahaha and i love seen that
Theres a clip circulating of him at a recent Ball, and he was rocking the Blues and dancing with a fsmale SgtMaj. Dude was having the time of his life.
There some questions he asked that make me cringe like this one 9:20 I am upset an jealous at the same time. Also never asked about the guy playing dead.
My dad was on Iwo. He was a huge John Wayne fan, but he hated "Sands of Iwo Jima." Watching these guys reminded me of him. He died and was buried with honors in 2013.
Frank must be that savage who can drown you in a spoon of water. Seeing them referring to the sands of iwo jima movie never heard such desdain in one "uh uh" 😅😅
Yeah that was pretty metal haha. What a stud. My great grandpa was a bomber pilot, mainly in the European theater and North Africa, and hearing him talk, they don't make them like they used to. Or at least it's quite a high bar to reach.
Being an OG Marine Raider was pretty bad ass as well, but getting shot at with a fuel tank on your back takes an idiot or balls of steel. Much respect to them both!
I’m so glad you guys did this, those two fellas are absolutely Gems, and I hope we can get as much insight from them as we can while we still have them
My grandfather was at Iwo Jima during World War II. He unfortunately, passed away when I was about 7 years old. He’d be 106 by now. I’d give anything to talk with my grandpa about ww2. He is a family legend.
I feel you totally. I’d give anything to talk with my grandpa about ww2 too, as well. He was a Filipino Guerrilla who saw a lot of action with the Japanese before the US came and liberated them. So many stories, it’s truly fascinating. I guess the best thing we can do, is to really find ways to keep it alive.
My Great Uncle served as a Marine at Tarawa and Saipan. I cherished his company and conversation. He never spoke of the war to anyone, until I enlisted. He was a wealth of information and is sorely missed.
@doctexas1666/ I met a person who was in the Army air corps. He told me he was on an Atoll In the South Pacific, I believe and he was waiting for a plane to arrive to give the nurses donuts. He told me something wasn't right. It was the wrong type of plane and it didn't in right place on the run way. So he went down to give the nurses there donuts & when the door opened up, It was the type that had steps on it . I don't remember the rank that started getting of but they were of upper rank .The last one to get off was Dwight D. Eisenhower He told me he salute him & I said, you dropped the donuts? He said look at how big these hands are. He told me that Eisenhower said " I wouldn't mind one of those donuts young man" I love talking to our Soldiers & the stories they Tell. I thank all of you from the bottom of my heart & GOD Bless to you & your families.
I couldn't help but notice that Don Graves (Flamethrower) said he was at the top of Mt. Suribachi when the flag went up and in the Flags of Our Fathers clip, you can clearly see a flamethrower operator at the top. Probably a good chance it was his representation.
Kinda surprised the interviewer hasn't seen Letters from Iwo Jima. Considering he's doing an Iwo Jima interview. Excellent movie. One of Clint Eastwood's best. That scene where the soldiers are killing themselves in the cave one by one is one of the most intense scenes I've ever seen in any movie hands down.
One of the absolute greatest things I've yet seen on RUclips. What an honor to watch WW2 shows and movies with two actual veterans of the conflict. Great thing here!
Just to remind you all this is the last generation of WWII veterans we might not see these guys for a while. Mad respect and thank you for serving our country. 🫡
I actually meet an american ww2 veteran once and thanked him for his service and that helped saving europe. I am also thanking Don and Frank for their service and making it possible for later generations to have a good life.
one of my favorite things about serving in the army is that its easier for older vets to relate to you and feel more comfortable about talking about their own service. definitely something i take for granted
I think its easier for them to watch cause they can watch it as a film cause its not from the perspective of the Marines. So they can enjoy it for what it is.
12:11 The fact that both of them agreed that scene was near or even how it EXACTLY was as they remembered sends shivers to my spine and also an applause to the Directors and Producers for making it so real and 1:1.
Don is such an incredible man. My father is a good friend of his and I’m had the pleasure of having a beer with him. He is such a kind hearted man and has an amazing singing voice. Do yourself a favor and listen to him sing the national anthem. He has incredible stories and great taste in music. Such a great video, I’ll always watch Don and what he has to say
In my opinion EVERYONE should watch this outta respect for our privliges!!! thank you all whom fought during that time, i as a infantry solder full 8 years can't compete with you!!! i'm blessed thanks to you all!
this is so cool having actual veterans who were there and served during the battle being able to tell you what’s real and what’s fake is so cool God bless them both
Thank you for everything you did and still do to show what great veterans we have in this country and to put yourself in those kinds of situations for Americans we appreciate you . God bless you
I really admire WWII vets. I remember one day at my church, a WWII vet saluted at me and I smiled and nodded. It's sort of a mystery to me, but it really meant a lot. Really cool seeing what these two gentlemen think about these films!
I love seeing two from the greatest generation do this series as there are so few left. I just binged Band of Brothers Sun & Mon & those brief interviews with those men reminded me how grateful I am for what they did.
i always say this about all vets, but we owe them everything, especially guys like these two fine gentlemen, men like this fought some if not the hardest battles in human history.
A world without ww2 veterans is a scary world. Liked the Ken Watanabe plug he is a great actor, just watched letters from Iwo Jima & flags of our fathers.
What an unbelievable honor it would be to set down with a couple of veterans like this and watch war films and discuss their experiences. Also, these 2 leathernecks look amazing for their age! Much respect and love to these gentlemen
This was fantastic! It is so rare that we have the ability to gain firsthand knowledge of what truly transpired during WWII. No amount of thanks can surmount what men like Don and Frank have done for this country!
It just makes me happy seeing these videos with world war 2 vets. There’s not many of them left and these guys are some of the bravest men and went through so much
Love how they both acknowledge Letters from Iwo Jima is the best representation. Even as a kid although I thought it boring at times with them in caves a lot and all the subtitles I thought it was almost like a documentary on how realistic it was.
As always thank you very much to all of our veterans and especially to Mat Best for him making a funny RUclips video spoof about Champagne and Caviar dreams dealing with his PTSD from combat that started Article 15 clothing with JT, Rocko Vargas, Heather Lynn and everyone else who made the videos and the channel so great that by the grace of God that Evan Haffer was able to come along and help Art 15 put out the very first veteran coffee brand Freedom Rosters that has become Black Rile Coffee Company and with each and everyone’s wisdom, knowledge and hard work has become so successful as to be able to make these excellent videos, to be able to share these amazing stories of real men and women who have made serious sacrifices for our country and the world. Thanks again to Mat and everyone who has made all of this possible. USA 🇺🇸
I love watching old school leathernecks talk about their experiences. Of my great grandfathers, one was in the 2A during the last two years of the war, one was with the 1MARDIV throughout the entire war, one was a bomber pilot, and another was a tail gunner aboard a bomber. All their kids served in Korea and Vietnam, my dad served in Iraq 1, and I served in Iraq 2/Afghanistan. It’s so fascinating to get all the different perspectives on what their subjective experience was like. Every junior seemed terrified of the senior’s war, and every senior seemed thankful they didn’t have to fight in the junior’s war.
It’s absolutely great episode with 2 of the greatest generation ever. They defeated evil. Solute to the greatest ever much respect to those hero’s.🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
My grandfather served in ww2,Korea and Vietnam he served in the 1st infantry division US army from 1941 to 1968 hes 103 now he was apart of the 1st wave to storm Omaha he lost his leg to a grenade during the tet offensive
@RealismAndHonor me and him talk about his time in the army all the time he gave me his journal that he had with him throughout his entire 27 year long service in the army he says that people need to know what war is really like
@RealismAndHonor he was telling me during d day when clearing bunkers a German officer shot him in the shoulder he tackled the officer and used the officers own luger pistol to kill the officer
You should have showed them "Halls of Montezuma" Made in 1951 and starring the same servicemen who served alongside these guys...best war movie ever in my opinion.
Amazing to get this documented, I have no doubt people will watch this for hundreads of years to gain historical insight into what happened during the war
Michael Savage accused Clint Eastwood of having gone lefty for making Letters From Iwo, and I've never watched it. Now 2 genuine Marines say it's not only good, but excellent. Time to watch it.
My Dad was a WW2 of the Battle of Okinawa Vet he would be 94 today if still alive on Earth. These WW2 Vets like others have something to pass on our Warriors of Today.Tactics and Weapons have changed but, the human element is still the same today as it was then.
A WWII Marine Raider and a Iwo flamethrower operator. Can't get much better than this, and we won't have it for long.
This generation will fade away, gone but throughout their 60 years living after the war is bonus for them to teach and pass their memory and memoirs about their sacrifices for freedom we enjoy today, grim reminder the past shouldn't happen again.

Cracked me up, still grinning like an idiot. Could spend weeks talking to these absolute legends.
Thought the same thing! Grandpa still sharp as ever!
I also cracked myself laughing that that😂😂
This is fantastic. Look how sharp Frank still is in that uniform!
Theres a clip circulating of him at a recent Ball, and he was rocking the Blues and dancing with a fsmale SgtMaj. Dude was having the time of his life.
Pipe down kid , the men are talking. In all seriousness, that had to be an honor to share that time with those Men
This ☝🏼
i would of been over the moon to just be a fly on the wall in the same room as these men
@ saaame

That man is an original Raider
Yeah, that was cold. It's interesting hearing accounts from veterans of the Pacific how many of them experienced hand to hand combat.
Came here to comment that. Such a subtle comment on how intensely close the fighting was. What a badass he is
@@Indylimburgthats why they nuked japan, because they cant fight 😅😅😅😅
Darn when Frank goes "I used my rifle butt a lot." And you realize what he probably means, that hits really damn hard.

I thought that at first but he could mean hip fire
I'm sure the rifle butt hit hard as well.
That totally hit me too. Can’t imagine, but can only have some chills here and there.
@@soldierofmisfortune6284That’s a bit of a stretch

Pretty horrible job, heavy backpack and you literally burn people to death.
And on Iwo too.
Not many WWII Vets left. Its a privilege to listen to them.
Yes agreed
Getting fewer and fewer of the kids of the time left, too.
I’m so glad you guys did this, those two fellas are absolutely Gems, and I hope we can get as much insight from them as we can while we still have them
