    Just got my black Apollo 11 today and so far it is nice. Have not fired it yet. Just field stripped and cleaned it. Initial impressions:
    1. Coating appears to be more susceptible to damage than just regular cerakote. The inside of the slide where the barrel rubs was full of scratches from the barrel, down to the metal.
    2. I'm concerned about the grip safety. It is very heavy and requires +90% engagement to allow firing.
    3. Trigger pull weight is suppose to be ~3.5, but I'm measuring 4Lbs 15oz consistently.
    4. Minor issue here, the trigger reset is slightly scratchy, but this might wear in as it breaks in.
    Overall for $979, this is a deal and definitely a Prodigy killer. I have 3 Prodigies and had to change out a lot of parts to get them to work right.
    I also have 4 Staccatos and 5 Wilson Combats which of course are not a fair comparison to either the Prodigies or the Apollo 11.

    • @VictorSilva-rq4kz

      Took it to the range today for the first time. Impressive compared to Prodigy. I have three Prodigies, two I bought new and one used. Both of the Prodigies I bought new had many malfunctions right from the start. The used 5" Prodigy I purchased also had malfunctions. All three of my Prodigies are super reliable now after I have done a lot of work with $300+ in parts for each. All three of my Prodigies are now reliable and I can go and shoot 2~300 rounds with zero malfunctions.
      Ok, back to the Apollo - brand new at the range, 120 rounds, zero malfunctions with exception of not locking back on empty.
      However I did not used the Apollo 11 mag, I used Staccato and Atlas mags. What is strange is that they all failed to lock back at the range, but when I returned home and the gun was cold they would all lock back. I will have to try the real Apollo 11 mag next time at the range to see if it locks back when the gun is hot.

      Second time to the range with a Holosun 507K X2 mounted. The two screws only holding method is not making it. The red dot was all over the place - and yes there was locktight on the screws and torqued to 15in-Lbs. For now a red dot is not usable. Unfortunately using the iron sights put rounds six inches high and to the right. This will require a change in front sight to fix - higher front sight.

      For $1000 you should expect tooling marks on the gun. It is not hand-fit by a gunsmith. I am sure LFA machines these to be as close in tolerance as possible. Just make sure you lube it up. The elite line of cerakote is tougher as it is a different formula. The ultimate is PVD, nitride, etc. But those finishes are expensive. Enjoy the gun.

    Nice video and a very good pistol that punches well above its price point. I have just over 1000 rounds through my Apollo 11, no issues at all with various FMJ ammo, after about 600 rounds and a good cleaning and lube it would feed hollow points just fine. LFA has done a great job especially for a sub 1k price. My only suggestion is for them to offer an aluminum or steel grip option as a factory upgrade, and to offer a good exchange to us early supporters of this platform from them. The Plastic or whatever Grip, looks good and feels fine but the material is to thin and light and does not balance well or give a firm confident feel. Keep the current grip at the same price point and add 10 to 20 % upgrade for a guality aluminum grip with tactical Magwell.

      @WVGunsNGoats  3 месяца назад

      I would LOVE a metal grip frame on the Apollo, and i have heard rumors about it. I fear it would drive the cost above 1k though, however for them to offer a metal grip module as an optional accessory so that they keep the price of the gun where it is at would be a great thing, and then it could also help the 2011 builder market too.

    This is a great piece of kit. The fact you can get a quality 1911DS for under a thousand bucks sets a new bar. The red dirt trigger is excellent. I prefer a full-length frame as it adds weight balancing the full magazine. The tri-top is a nice touch. LFA should offer a pinned grip safety. I would put a tooless guide rod in and if they manufacture a forged ignition system there is no need to put an EGW system in. I have read reviews and have shot this pistol at my club. There is a lag in the slide return, I think maybe it is the disconnector, an easy change, and an upgrade. Here is the question, if I own all of the usual suspects in 2011s, Atlas, Hayes, Bul, then what does this gun add to my collection. Well, I would carry this. The polymer grip deducts weight so it would not drop my pants. In addition, IF I ever had to pull for a threat, I could live with the police confiscating a $1000 pistol over my $6000 Nighthawk. Remember why we carry. protection and defense for you, your family, and innocent strangers.

      Hey Rogue, Thank you for the thoughtful response, I just got around to setting down and going through all the comments i missed, It sounds like you have a pretty good collection of 2011's out there, and you know what the great thing about this Apollo 11 is? It is going to be a great entry into the 2011 world for someone who may be on the fence about spending the money that a 2011 usually costs, and they might see the light and decide to buy an Atlas later.
      You also make a great point that if you have to use it defensively, and it gets held as evidence, you don't have a multiple thousand dollar 2011 sitting in police lockup. Thank you for watching!

    That is a really nice gun. If I was in the market for a 2011 style pistol, this would be something I would strongly consider. Amazing price for what you get. I have decided to pair down my collection to a strictly Glock 9mm system. Having multiple guns with different calibers and magazine compatibility made it more difficult to maintain. Just FYI, that's not an RMSc footprint. It's RMSc-compatible. The recoil lugs that are part of the RMSc spec are missing, so the optics screws will take all the recoil vs distributing it across four lugs + two screws. Even the HolosunK modified RMSc would still have had the two front lugs. This is indicative of end-milling the slide vs. CNC milling it, representing cost-savings at the potential expense of durability of the optic/screws because of what's being forced to absorb the recoil and where (all in the middle of the optic vs. two or four corners + two screws).

    • @WVGunsNGoats
      @WVGunsNGoats  7 месяцев назад +1

      Wont the wall of the slide behind the optic if it fits tight enough also take some of the recoil force as it would be touching the back of the optic and preventing it from moving as well?

    • @thatmikereed
      @thatmikereed 7 месяцев назад +3

      @@WVGunsNGoats Negligible, at best, even assuming the optic goes all the way against the rear. The optics have post holes in them for a reason... the same reason the spec (RMSc and Holosun K) have posts. Recoil absorption. It'll be interesting to see if there are reports in the next 6-12 months of optics flying off, sheared screws, etc. It was a simple thing LFA could have done right and instead appears to have cheaped out on... and that kind of red flag was enough for me to cancel my "ready to ship" order with them once I found out. It speaks to other potential cost-cutting that's gone unseen and could lead to a less durable firearm.

    It's an awesome gun mine just has a bit of a loose thumb safety on the right side

      I believe that is pretty common as long as it cannot fully come out with the slide on.

      My left hand thumb safety is only slightly loose, but the issue I'm trying to figure out is:: When I grip the gun (right handed) I use a high and very tight grip, which seems push the left side safety slightly up, which seems to restrict the slide when attempting to retract it. I don't know the internals well enough to say what may be happening. I will call Jullien when time allows. Anybody with some incite? Other than "Don't grip it so high"
