    Love your perspective of thinking and showing how you fix stuff.
    The camera angles and perspectives you use are great and show us all what it’s really like operating and repairing that heavy stuff.
    Love that clean shop and clean parts going back together

    Great vid. never seen anyone show this job before! Some co.s I've worked for once the brakes go, once the diff. lock quits working, and the trans. hold quits they just never repair them. Its great to see someone that respects the older scrapers and the way they were meant to work. Thanks!

    Not a small job!
    As I am older now I find that I am just as strong as when I was in my twenties, but by God lifting heavy things around sure hurts a lot more afterwards! Nice job Jeff.

    I'm a life long lover of heavy equipment, since I was 5 yrs old....I'm 56 now. The scraper being my favorite piece to watch work. Thank you for doing these detailed videos of what makes them go, and what to do when they break.....I love it.
    I fly airplanes for a living, but really enjoy twisting wrenches in my time off (77 Corvette with a 406 425 HP) , and would love to work on one of these beasts.
    Thank you for doing these vids....keep them coming, I love watching

    MY gawd I love watching you repair and fix things. You are so knowledgeable about so many things mechanical.
    Thanks for showing us your great repair. Now we all should know why these machines cost so much money.
    The people who invented and made these machines were very smart people for sure.

    • @Jpaydirt
      @Jpaydirt  8 лет назад +1

      Yes they were smart people, can you imagine coming up with an 8 speed semi automatic transmission that worked so well they still use it, with out tons of mods. it's still the same as it was when invented, other than electronic controls watch this video, I love this one, it's about this guys grandfathers and the things they did.

    Your CAT dealer just had a stroke cause you did not let them fix that! You saved a boatload of money doing that yourself! Great job well done!

    • @Jpaydirt
      @Jpaydirt  8 лет назад +1

      They are having a serious stroke right now, as they have adopted a new system which allows them to not know where anything is. And here is why Microsoft itself - So very, very, very bad and ugly.
      If you are considering implementing your first Microsoft BI solution then pay particular attention here. Most of the development teams in the Microsoft organization are utterly amazing however...
      Microsoft is their own worst enemy when it comes to BI. They don't know what they are doing. I'm not qualifying this with "in my humble opinion" because I feel so very strongly about this. They have no clue. They've gone off the reservation. There is no concerted vision for Microsoft Business Intelligence or even an indication of profound understanding in the space. They just want to sell licenses in any way possible.
      Their sales and marketing force is embarrassing. They will come into your organization and show you canned demos to illustrate the power of Microsoft BI. They will gloss over the complexities of data warehousing and effective data visualization. They will recommend completely inappropriate products to you without understanding your needs. They will help their solution partners make a sale and then disappear. They will effectively cripple your project before it has even started. They will not be good advisors. They will lie. It is a crime.
      Furthermore this attitude is so deeply ingrained in many of their solution partners that many Microsoft Gold Certified Partners that you'll run into will be from the planet Mars. If you, in any way, question the comprehensiveness or capabilities of the Microsoft BI stack you will be met with furrowed brows. It will not compute for them. In their hearts they feel that they are part of the Microsoft world and Microsoft can do no wrong. Yes, there are good consulting companies that will guide you to success, but there's also a chance that black-23 will come up on the roulette wheel when you put your money down. How lucky do you feel? If you do find a good Microsoft BI partner, don't let them go.thoughtsonbi.blogspot.com/

    back up to machine on left side of tire with ur right rear out rigger bearly touching left front fender! it gives you clearance to swing the trans and diff right out! might have to extend out a little with crane and crowd in when swinging! but trans ends up damm near ur bumper when it's out. i use 4 or 5 ton comealong just in case! just basic safety precautions i was taught working at caterpillar dealership.

      The machine is the tip of the iceberg. Stocking all the fittings to use the damn thing is where the real money is. Plus Cat loves to sneak in metric fittings.

    So how complicated is it to remove the rear differential? I'm pretty good mechanically, just never done one before. One of my 627Bs is only getting power to one wheel on the rear axle, so I need to pull it out. If you ever do one yourself, I would love to see a video of it.

    • @Jpaydirt
      @Jpaydirt  7 лет назад +2

      I did one just before I started posting videos on YT, steam clean it off good, you can take it out with the power pack in or out, pull the axles remove the tube between the diff and the right wheel , then take off the fill tube and drive line, slip off the drive flange from the pinion then put a strap around the diff and pry it away from the studs and then lower it down onto a sheet of plywood or pallet so you can rehook and slid it out, Now the fun begins, lets hope your no spin is good, $$$$ it could be your springs are broke, there are two big F ing springs on the jaw of each axle, setting up your pre load and backlash is a lengthy process , you'll have to build a special tool to measure your back lash correctly, its a one inch wide quarter inch thick piece of flat bar, with a half inch hole in one end, send me your phone # click on (About) at the top of my channel then use the message button, I will send you a pic of the tool, also include your address I'm pretty sure I have the Cat print on the specs to build it, also your going to need a service manual, the one for the B's is probably not going to tell you much, the old A model book will be full of information, if you want I can pull the section on the diff and photo copy it, 637's had the same rear diff

    Thank you sir. I sincerely hope the Q.C. and engineering dept. at Caterpillar have subscribed to your videos. Many companies are living on past glory. Corporate gurus and management are cutting quality and inspections. That indifferent attitude and greed may seem to work for awhile but eventually it catches up with a company. The question arises concerning the porosity pitting craters and channeling: if the metal was from a USA foundry or imported, or is the defect traced to a casting process at Cat.?? Either way, the fact that the once trusted name of CAT. and the pride and workmanship that went into much of their equipment seems to be on the decline. Flaws in metal are not new. An old article stated that engine mount bolts for the P-51 Mustang in WWII were breaking, no one knew why. Metallurgist found it was due to (hydrogen embrittlement) and the necessary corrective action taken with new inspection standards in place. I'm not bashing the rank and file workers at CAT. no way. Years ago I worked for a company that considered it's self so specialized that they were untouchable by any competitor. Counting their main parent group + all their subsidiaries they worked in excess of 40,000 people. Long story short..caught miss charging and falsifying test results at management levels...the govt cancelled their contract and second sourced that particular weapon system to another defense contractor.

      These were made back in the seventies, so I guess even back then they had trouble with QC

    quality Caterpillar castings , welds that crack under stress? Are you sure it is Caterpillar?

    • @Jpaydirt
      @Jpaydirt  6 лет назад

      the welds inside are just common stuff, the diff lock housing was a Cat part, I can tell the counterfit stuff, sometimes things just slip thru I guess
