Agreed!! It’s this entitlement that turn my husband off from having money or owning anything expensive. He thinks he’ll be viewed as one of those entitled people. :)
For me, time is always more valuable than money. I retired early to be around to help my family. I'm frugal with possessions and save all extra income for travel. Long ago I stopped buying stuff and am busy trying to give stuff away. Travel light and travel happily. If you can help others, do it now. If you can lighten the load for someone, just do it. Smile and approach each day with joy.
Paying someone a compliment helps us feel great. Volunteering is my jam these days. I'm a literacy tutor to both kids and adults. Helping someone learn to read, or read better, is a key to the world. I also took extension training to become a master gardener educator. I love working in the gardens and learning more about the beauty of nature. Getting out of my own thoughts and out working for others blows away malaise and negativity. Eating healthy foods and walking as much as I can also drive away bugaboos.
Time! That's the number 1 thing money can't buy. Once it's gone, it's gone - and I wish I hadn't wasted quite so much of mine! Still, at least I've learned that lesson now! Oh, and health - there's another thing I took for granted that I wish I'd spent a bit more time working to keep - and you can spend money on that but it won't help you if you don't attend the expensive gym. You'll miss that one when it's gone! But there are many more of those priceless things money just can't buy which I do get to enjoy - sunshine, blue skies and birdsong. Those are some of my favourites. The love of a companion animal (or several). Kindness from others or given by you to others - a simple cup of tea or coffee, or a cold drink when you're working outside. Wonderful. There are lots more but I want to see tomorrow which 7 made it to Kate's shortlist! Frugal Friday is one of my favourite moments in the week.
Now that I've seen the video, I knew you'd nail it - and you did. Isn't it interesting that frugal people (whether by choice or necessity) often have the best values? Money is so handy to have, and life is miserable if you don't have enough to meet the essentials - but most of us in the western "developed" world do have enough for the essentials. That frees us up to appreciate the things that are priceless - they are either given or not at all, they can never be bought. Have you heard the saying "Money can't buy you happiness"? My mother always used to say "Yes, but it can make your misery a LOT more comfortable!" And I know what she means - coming from a generation who grew up with very little, worked incredibly hard and made their lives a lot more comfortable using good, frugal practices. But still, it won't buy you happiness - having a loving home, friends, inner beauty and so on, those are the things that count precisely *because* you cannot buy them with money. Have a fabulous weekend, y'all! Thank you, Kate - another great video to keep us on the right track.
I loved today's video. I work hard to make our home comfortable and relaxing for us as well as a place our friends and family love to visit. All of your points were great. The best things are things money can't buy.
Kate dear I am proud to say due to following channels like yours I have good news. News is I have saved $5,450 au since January. I thank you sincerely dear Kate 😘. I love your videos and also wish and pray you are greatly appreciated for your commitment to us. We'll done dear Kate and Kaden. Today's video is great because it encourages us all to grab life for what it's valued for I pray Kaden loves his schooling and learning too. Since my 30s I have recipes a fixed income for my disability. I rent social housing. I have it nicely decorated and not selling things. I like it nice and enjoyable. But sadly I didn't have a savings plan I'm 61yrs now Wooooops.. Now I'm saving and living frugality for what's it worth I thank God for everyone and everything 🙏 Blessings Maria 😊
This was such a wholesome video. Another thing money can't buy is Peace of Mind and Happiness. I believe these two are interrelated and both comes from within amidst the circumstances.
I feel like gratitude is like tee or water, the majority afford it but only a minority drinks it the necessary amount daily. Drinking sufficient tee or water seems to be such a simple almost free, effortless habit so I just disregard the valuable results it brings. Luckily my body demands it so I can't go on without it. The same feels with gratitude. I often forget to be grateful, but somehow the need to show gratitude makes room out of nowhere into my life. Dear Kate I am grateful for the common sense, real, full of light videos you make and offer us for free to enjoy!
Money cannot buy my faith and my love for God and Jesus. It’s what binds everything you said together. Without it I don’t know how I would have made it through the past four plus years of my husband’s illness and death.
My mother was a true lady, and taught us manners as well. And to ALWAYS be polite and calm. I asked her one time when I got to be impolite to someone who was being ugly and hateful.... her answer was "Never". I believe this has enabled me to get through some rough situations... just keep smiling and keep being polite... you win in the end and can feel good about yourself inside. 14:03
Hi Kate: Have you ever heard of couples where the husband takes care of everything and then dies and the widow doesn’t know what to do? I have. I’m 69 years young and in this season of my life (32 years married) I am covered in all the ways. I am blessed, however, my husband is 9 years older than me. If he dies today, (cancel, cancel) although money wise I would be set, we know that if I don’t manage my money it will never be enough. That’s where you come. Thank you so much because I feel peace in knowing what to do when the time comes. I keep learning… so keep up the good work. Blessings from Puerto Rico!
Yes time ! Your can’t get it back. For sure! We are working on using time more wisely visiting family and friends . We lost my husband’s father this month and it sure is an eye opener.
Happy Frugal Friday Kate. What a great message that totally applies to raising my now adult son. All that love, respect and enthusiasm still applies to sharing time with adult children. Thanks for setting the tone for our weekend.
Thank you so much for highlighting the intrinsic qualities and realities that are priceless, love and respect for yourself and others are truly important and I believe was the common thread that ran through your list. I would also like to add self reflection and intentionality. I believe when we are aware of our behaviors we try to chose doing good in the world. I also believe that this awareness brings self improvement and encourages us to use our talents and time on those that are a blessing to us.
I was the kool-aid mom, there were always lots of kids at my home. And this last weekend I had all 3 adult children home, and we laughed we joked, and mom welled up over having her babies home. They remembered squirter gun fights in the house, that escalated using the kitchen sink sprayer😂😂. We played together, laughed so hard, and cleaned up behind us, smiling about the days events. Memories stored, priceless. 😊
Hey Kate, speaking as someone who has lived with Type 1 diabetes for three quarters of my life & now also with some of the associated conditions, I can say that no amount of money can buy good physical or mental health.
@@KateKaden I forgot to mention that the unconditional love of furbabies is also something that money just can't buy & maybe this should have been at the top of the list 😉😻
My siblings and I grewup in the mid 50's through 60's. Mom taught us all, then expected, good manners and etiquette. We knew how to set a proper table, the girls had white dress gloves to be worn at certain occassions, hold a conversation, please and thank you plus so much more. As an adult, I continued this with forgiveness and kindness with my family. I shared with my family that as long as you have these you will go far. It doesn't matter how much knowledge and or money you have you will always advance in life. I can't tell you how many interviews, meetings, networking, friends I have, illnesses, and when I needed help, these lessons have paid off and gotten me through times successfully. Costs me nothing♡
Kate I agree so much with number 7 growing up in a military family We had a plaque that was always in our kitchen no matter where we were that said "A house is made of brick and stone and a home is made of love alone" My parents have both past on but those words always gave my siblings and I comfort no matter where we were stationed
New subscriber Kate. Love your channel. Trust and support of my dear brother... I could not buy. Companionship and fun understanding and affection of our big cuddly dog... the sense of peace I feel when I've taken some time to pray or go to church

Absolutely great video!!! My close friends and family wholeheartedly agree sharing experiences together are worth far more than money can ever buy. One of the best "investments" I have ever bought was a nice digital camera. I have taken so many pictures. Like to walk in parks and having a camera makes you want to stop and enjoy what you see that day. I get lost in time just observing nature around me. And photos of family members are priceless!
