As an almost 64 year old who looks in the mirror and sees her grandmother looking back at her, I am reminded again, that old age is not for the faint hearted... But it is a privilege. I have been young, I've been a mature, confident mother, now I get to master wisdom, and I think you do it better when you look the part.
    And it's cheaper!

And you don't exude a sense of desperation to stay young and relevant because you know that you are intrinsically valuable, therefore forever relevant, and you've gained wisdom through experience which can never be replicated in youth.
It's not always easy for once undeniably gorgeous young women to age gracefully without enhancements, especially in cities such as Los Angeles.
Still, without cosmetic surgery we are able to retain our curiosity about how we will naturally outwardly evolve.
There's a sort of comfort that comes with looking in the mirror and finding the culmination of life experiences reflected upon the map of our natural facial features.
It's the serenity of a grandmother (regardless if there are children or grandchildren in her life) who accepts herself along with everything positive and negative which has shaped her through the years.
Same is true for everyone, of course, the culture only puts more pressure upon women to look eternally, artificially young.

I am a couple of years younger than Madonna. I often say that there comes a point when "the boat springs leaks" faster than you can plug them, and you can reach a point where the face/body parts just aren't cohesive. Gravity is relentless, bone density thins, tissues break down beyond the ability for the body to regenerate. Looking "good for my age" and being as healthy as possible is the goal for me, not looking eternally 20.

She’s not saying people are ageist about her face, shes saying people are ageist because people keep telling her to act her age. They’re always telling her how to be 😂
She’s allowed to look and act how she wants and all you couch potatoes always have something to say. Fixing your face isn’t ageist, it’s societal pressure because no one ever shuts up about anything. She wants to appear younger because in this world that’s the only way to stay popular as a woman in her industry. Just cause your family doesn’t care how old you look, doesn’t mean that the people around her do. Over time, over all changes, people have had something negative to say. Look at Lil Kim… She’s a celebrity and has been her whole life, she’s Madonna… You may not care but you’re literally one person she’ll never know exists. No one cares to watch you sing or dance. You’re not known internationally by your first name. There are tens of thousands of people minimum always on her case. That fucks with your head and how you see yourself. You always think you need to fix something. You saying she shouldn’t look like THAT will make people like her want to go in and fix more.
Just cause you’re on this side of the argument doesn’t mean people like y’all aren’t part of the problem. Take yourself off your high horse. Look at the mirror and fix yourself. How people look really isn’t any way, shape, or form, anyone’s business. Have an opinion, but dont be ignorant about the effects of voicing it.
You probably loved Madonna as a kid and now hate on her cause she looks different. 🗑️ 😂 Fake fans everywhere, mean women on every corner.

I stumbled upon your site and I really appreciate your thoughtful, careful and non-judgmental discussion of cosmetic surgery techniques and who might have had what. I believe that aging is an individual process and everyone should be free to do what they (and their wallet) want and can handle. As a 58 year old woman, I am cautiously entering the world of Botox and fillers. I don't want to look younger, but just as good as I can for my age. Aging is a gift that I am so blessed to have right now, but a few nonsurgical boosts to Mother Nature make me feel better.

@@janicevango5791 It's true that many of these stars start to look truly bizarre after having so many surgical procedures, think of Faye Dunaway and Priscilla Presley. But it's really no surprise when you have people microassessing every wrinkle, every tiny sag of the skin, they can't help but feel they have to stave off that criticism. I wish we could just get over this obsession with youth and the idea that even after 60, 70 or 80 we still need to match up to that beauty standard. The saddest part of this is that the body still ages no matter what. There is no amount of surgeries that can slow or stop the aging process. Aging is part of being human and it's better to age with grace than fight the inevitable.
Edit- because some take it upon themselves to read too deeply into my comment and take offense to it. I don't mean to offend, shame, or judge anyone who wants or has had surgeries. "Aging with grace" is a figure of speech and it means to learn, understand, and accept the changes of life and changes within our bodies. Grace has nothing to do with what we do to our bodies or looks and everything to do with our mindset and how we react. That being said not everyone has the money or access to have surgeries done. While, there is nothing wrong with having surgeries done, there is also nothing wrong with aging and embracing our bodies naturally; there is no right or wrong way to do it. ❤

Gracefulness has nothing to do with the body or looks its about personality and mindset. And if you took it that way, I am sorry. I only meant that regardless surgery or not the human body still ages. We all grow old and die that is just simple fact of human biology. Surgeries will not stop aging. If it helps people feel good and confident then all the better. But in my personal OPINION, I rather embrace every wrinkle, scar, stretch mark on my body and skin and embrace the woman I am and will become. That is MY mindset. MY opinion. Amazing to see the progression. I never noticed her surgeries until the past few years, when she hit the alien phase -- but in this video, I notice the way she never allowed herself to develop a single wrinkle, a single sag, and how that intolerance added up over time. At 6:59 you see a hint of the beautiful woman she could have aged into. The plastic surgeon saw room for improvement; I saw natural beauty that was then interrupted. Tragic.

Thank you for being educational, fair, and very kind to the people whom you're describing! I really appreciate learning about how faces age in terms of muscle tissue, bone density, etc., and what that looks like on an aging face with or without surgical or nonsurgical methods. My grandfather is turning 98 this year and I've been looking at pictures from when he was younger--what's really fun for me is to still see how he greatly remains himself even though he's undeniably older. I don't think I'll age nearly as well as he has simply for the fact that I have less melanin protection, but I hope if I can take good care of myself and am lucky enough to make it anywhere close to his age that I can still see myself, too.

That would certainly be a much taller order had he waited a year until after her most recent Grammy's appearance. That being said, her defense of herself is expected and understandable in that we try to bring ourselves up not to draw impolite attention to people with different appearances and abilities. Much harder to do when certain people cosmetically modify themselves to noticeably appear more youthful, and the public pays the social toll with lectures on newly invented -isms and toxicity every time said people grossly miss the target on that aim.

You are 10 yrs older than my mom. I turned 29 couple days ago and I'll just say that by the time I turned 26-27 , I realized that adults are just regular ppl only more experienced. They don't know everything and they don't feel old or they don't feel like they have a lot of wisdom bcz when I was 15,I saw 27 as old. When I was 5,my mom was 30 and obviously I would have thought that she knows everything and now that I am 29 and I have lived more life than she did at 29 bcz I have lived at different places and still I feel like I have barely experienced anything and that time has just swiftly passed. I can also see that how easy it is to see the mistake that a 14 yr old is making bcz we were the same at 14 , thinking we are now adult so we know what we are doing although we didn't know anything. Kids judge even a 29 yr old now so a tiny bit of insecurity is there sometimes but I see how confident my mom is of herself. She lived a rough life and now her life got easier so she is happy with that and when I was 16 and I once said sth like I won't live anymore bcz I failed in an exam, my mom said to me that "Not everyone gets to live a long life so if you are getting that chance , live as long as you can and try your best bcz many want to live but don't get the chance" and she said that bcz her dad died when he was 27-28, my dad aka her husband died when he was 31 and my mom's first born died at the age of 2.5 yrs old so she jist learned to appreciate life bcz all the deaths happened all of a sudden and it was all at different time. I learned to appreciate life bcz of her. The way society is going , it will get only harder to not get tempted by all this but one of the blessing in disguise I had was my bad mental health from which I healed and it took 7-8 yrs so that's why I got completely chilled by the time I reachee 28 bcz the world will always try to play on your insecurity but I have the responsibility to keep myself healthy and happy and so why care about the world. The sooner I accept myself the way I am, the easier it will be to live happily for the rest of my life.

We believe the strategy is sufficient for us -- no need for needle, let alone scalpel.
And the strategy is fruitful: I assume you're 64 years old and get compliment for looking like 45 (and I bet you feel like 45 😉). I'm 47, but looking & feeling much younger.
      So, I'm confused.
Madonna has always been into exercise and good diet.
I still remember her toned body in the 90's.
She still has the body. Not as good as in the past, of course. But still good, tho.
All the exercise and diet has done good for her body.
Why doesn't she just let the exercise and diet work for her face? Why resort to plastic surgery?
OK, she's celebrity. She need some extra for her face. A little botox might give some extra kicks. Or a little bit of hyalutonic acid injection.

I imagine dissolving the fillers would result in sagging skin, but she’s already had so many lifts. Is she past the point of no return?

For me it's the lower chin... it was always a little problem in my youth (a little double chin), that I could manage by just keeping my head up...but I'd have to look up at the sky now🤪. In my latter 50s, I still don't have a much in the way of wrinkles and my big skin issue is rosacea...thank heavens for the green cover stick that removes a lot of my redness. Otherwise, I get mistaken for 40s. I've appeared about 5-10 years younger since I was 19... getting my hair cut for boot camp, I was told "You must be excited about starting highschool... getting a new hairstyle and all." 😂 Since then, it's been a lot of strange moments...the officer that wanted to know WHICH Ssgt was letting their kid wear their full uniform on base, the mall guard wanting to know why I wasn't at the highschool during school hours (I was 24, a veteran at this point, and at the local college). I had to drag out my license, military ID, and college ID. 🤷 It was annoying, but now I am enjoying the relatively slow pace of aging I'm prone to. Poor hubby is 4 years older and looks a few years older than he actually is. Meanwhile, I am told I look younger...a little bit of extra mom weight is involved too. There's one thing for sure...gravity works, when everything else fails. 😂
