Lil Kim had faced some trauma in her early life stemming from her dad and abusive relationships with men. She had her nose broken several times during an abusive relationship with one of her boyfriends and I think that may have started her on the path of changing the way she looked drastically. And there wasn't anything wrong with the way she looked outwardly, but inside was the issue. She needed to fix her broken ness from the inside.
Thank you for being respectful through the video on Lil Kim and trying to explain things. She is a beautiful person inside and out. Extremely loyal and iconic. Her Being only 4”11 and holding her ground in an industry dominated by men, she kicked open doors for many ladies. I hope this video will allow people to see other angles without jumping to judgment on such an amazing person who deserves more than the insults thrown at her. You did a great job on this video!
Thanks Dr. Gary for recognizing the beauty in those of Afro descent. Far too often we hear Cosmetic surgeons degrade African features by saying they are abnormally bulbous, thick , or wide, when they are quite normal in certain ethnic groups. Nothing wrong with a little rhinoplasty, but not due to societal pressure to look less black.
Thank you for going into the psychological aspect of "why" these celebrities end up destroying their faces so horribly with surgery. Lil Kim was dealt with some tragic cards in her life. It truly saddens me how such a statuesque bombshell like her was always made to feel ugly by the people in her life. Just goes to show you what kind of damage words can sometimes do to you.
Agree with everything except she's not statuesque. Statuesque means tall and she's short, only 4'11. Know the definition of the words you are using. It makes what you say have no credibility when you're actually right. She was beautiful. But statuesque,no.
They just need a good doctor who have their best interest at heart. I've seen some rhinoplasty on poc that just looks like a cuter version of their nose but still looks similar to their natural noses.
1:37 I love this description of her facial features. You added such specific anatomical descriptions to facial features that we lay people unconsciously and automatically identify as general attractiveness. We see these anatomical features and like them, but it was nice to know what we were looking at and how in total we composite them to see beauty. Also, I liked how you recognized her features "respect her ethnic features." That is so important.
This puts me to tears. As a kid I wanted to be her. She literally was one of the most beautiful woman to me when I was like 7-10 years old. Why didn’t she see that. 🥺💔
I really appreciate how compassionate you are and how you explore why some people may have gotten all of the work done that they did as a way of expanding the conversation beyond just "what's wrong with them, how could they do this"
Ya..try getting that compassion out of a blk doctor...😆😅😆..your sons and brothas have no compassion..yaaa don't breed those values into them...go figure
The pressure to fit the European aesthetic is very high in the entertainment industry and in general for women of color especially those of West African Ancestry. Great video.
@@CherryJuli Nah, thats always a part of it. Normal everyday black women feel this pressure and she has been very obvious about her admiration for the European esthetic. When she first became famous she was still poor and had just come from off the streets. When she wanted to make it really big Hollywood adds that extra pressure.
I like her, but been through a lot is not the reason to have surgery. Money is the reason. How about poor people who been called ugly all their lives and has to live with or people that born with disabilities! I had breast implants myself, because I was insecure about having not chest. But if I did not have money to do it at age 25, it would not be the end of the world. Money is the evil part, always pushes you to want more than what you need.
I’m a BW 43 and was thinking of getting fillers but I started a new skincare regiment, eating healthier, taking collagen supplements, losing weight. She was a beautiful Black woman and I really feel sorry for her, cause I had a similar mindset early in life. I was told indirectly and sometimes directly that looking the way I do is inherently ugly. My nose, lips, skin color, etc., but fortunately enough I was not in the limelight and I didn't have the money to access plastic surgery, so I was allowed to grow up and develop a better sense of self.
I'm so sorry to hear you didn't see your beauty in the past (and girl, you're gorgeous! I was shocked to read you didn't know you were). I'm glad that you didn't end up getting surgery!

I like your empathetic and intelligent approach to your analysis of her surgeries. I love how you started off saying how beautiful Lil Kim was. You seem to be such a kindhearted person.
And there is a lot of pressure when girls are in their teen years too. It seems very sad they go from being little girls to wanting to look like movie stars instead of getting through their teen years without all those expectations. It also hurts to know Lil Kim was abused so badly that it damaged her face. What a horrible person to hurt her like that.
I'll tell you about my experience with plastic surgery. When I was in my late 40s, my ophthalmologist recommended I have a blepharoplasty to deal with significant peripheral vision loss due to the aging process that consisted of my forehead sliding down my skull (my father had the same surgery due to his similarly deep-set eyes). A plastic surgeon recommended that I have a brow lift, then a bleph because just a bleph would pull my eyebrows lower and it was my eyebrows that were the problem. Had all this done and at the last minute asked to have the bags under my eyes removed. Insurance covered the significant expense (except for the under-eye bags). I very much liked the improvements to my vision and appearance but then thought the upper half of my face looked so much better than the lower half. Got a traditional facelift and a chin implant. Loved these results. But then found myself wanting to do more. I really, really wanted to do more. This is what I believe happens to so-called plastic surgery addicts. I never did any more surgery work done; I think if I had given to my addiction I would now look like some version of Ms. Wildenstein.
Its amazing that you recognized the want to do more, the budding of an addiction and stopped before your health and appearance took a toll. More clients should think like this! Yes- there is a risk for getting addicted due to the search for "perfection"(everyone is so unique, its so sad to see people get rid of their uniqueness and their natural features for vanity), but perfection doesnt exist! Just strive to be you.
I also blame surgeons for faces like Lil Kim‘s. They should say no when someone obviously had too much work done and good doctors do turn away clients.
I was nodding as I was reading you. I can totally see that progression happening and so glad that you caught it before it got out of hand. I always wondered why people (celebrities) keep going when we, the public can clearly see where it was the time to stop. They all hit a point when you think “There! You look great. That’s the right amount of surgery”, but not all stop.

I appreciate you speaking on the life circumstances that can make someone so desperate to alter their whole appearance because it was heartbreaking to watch Lil Kim transform herself into a different woman when her original form was better. I pray her heart finds peace one day
The “nose job” at 26 is actually just clever contouring with makeup. Her nose in the next photo, at 27, is still her natural nose. Immediately after that is when she started getting rhinoplasties.
COMPLETELY WRONG. I can see you're a Millennial, or Gen-Z🙄. By 1999, Kim already had a nose job....teeth capped.....and her breasts done (hence the stripper outfit). This is well-known to anyone from Generation-X. It's VERY obvious.
@@domarq dude I’m Gen X. I’m just going off the photos shown in this video, and the photo shown for “26” looks like makeup on her natural nose, while the next photo “27” returns to a very natural shape. She was so beautiful And it's a shame that from her father to the men she dated belittled To the point that she couldn't look in the mirror and see how beautiful she was. I’m 68 and everyday I look in the mirror I wonder if I should have a facelift. Compared to other women of my age, I still look considerably younger but the times when people were very shocked at my chronological age compared to my facial age are diminishing. I have learned so much from Dr. Gary about facial aging and surgical correction. I think I should invest more time in makeup application than the more drastic and irreversible surgical procedures. I should also accept that I’m not going to look like I’m 30 anymore.

Thank you for your content!
I appreciate your compassion when discussing how our narrow beauty standard has affected lil Kim. I would love to hear more plastic surgeons address how much of our beauty standard is based on racism. Things you mentioned as being unattractive traits like visible tear troughs or a long philtrum, for example, are normal facial traits of non-European ethnic groups.

This is so sad. She was absolutely beautiful naturally. The self hatred of some people of African descent is a tragedy. To destroy yourself to this extent is the measure of the toxicity of the society. Just sad.

I want to add my appreciation for your nuanced take, particularly your use of Kim’s own words towards the end. If we are to consume content about celebrities, particularly when discussing sensitive topics, we owe it to them to use the information they have given us word for word.
I appreciate your detailed explanation of the procedures. I’m 51 and I remember Lil Kim’s debut. I always felt she was a sweet, cute young lady. To see the video collage of her transformation was disheartening. Some end up looking like The Cat Lady. Are the cheek implants or fillers the latest craze? The cheeks have a sometimes puffy or downward look that you described. I’ve noticed Kirk Franklin, Janet Jackson, Jada Pinkett, Tina Knowles in recent years appearance has been tweaked. I know there are many more but these came to mind. You can tweak your appearance but your DNA is locked in.

She's never mentioned having Vitiligo so can only guess that she has been using skin lightening creams for a while now, combined with make up obviously, she's light pink skin now. No one gonna mention that ?
Dr. Gary! I found myself using your wording when counseling a patient the other day. He asked me about LASIK and said he intended to seek surgery within a few months and wanted my opinion. I told him that I thought there were some other refractive surgery techniques that would probably be better for him but that I would recommend a few good surgeons whose work and clinical opinions I trust. Then I advised him not to "focus on the specific surgical technique but on the surgeon and their results." Most people say "LASIK" as all-encompassing refractive surgery anyway, but I immediately thought of you when I used that specific line. 😂 Good video, sad for Lil Kim
I really like the way you talk factually, using cosmetic terminology. You sound kind and I like it. Facial analysis. Brilliant. I’ve never seen you before but I will be back for more for sure 🙂
This seriously makes me want to cry because I know growing up in The Times that we did we were not meant to feel beautiful.. I'm in my forties... Doctor Gary, My name is Douglas and I'm from Brazil. I want you to know that your voice brings me peace and serenity!
Just got my first rhinoplasty at 18 definitely feel like I want more.

Dr. Gary is so professional and explained everything so that we who are not in the medical field. Great Job !! ❤️
Thank you for speaking on her in a sympathetic way
This surgeon is the best his videos are informative love how he does not try to tear down and more so compassionate in his reviews
She was such a beatiful lil woman. She really didn't need anything done at all.
I wish people would realise that being cheated on is not their fault. The person who cheats has no respect for anybody, including themselves.
Lil kim said she got nose surgery, to fix her nose, because she had a broken nose from being abused. Still wish she would have left him and got help for her traumas. Because lil kim had so much trauma that led to her seeking plastic surgery.
Right it’s the man not you
It’s the lightning of her skin along with the face change for me. Feel bad for her to have gone through such much transformation.
Zsa zsa gabor
@@businessbuilder92 she was white. lil kim was black.
@@bluebellbeatnik4945 the face job looks like gabors tho
Thank you for being respectful in your theories on Kim's facial changes💕
You were extremely respectful and professional. Gained a new sub
love these videos, doc, your voice is so calming and your analyses are always very considerate
Thanks!
Kim has been through a lot but she has a reputation for being a really nice person. Everyone that talks about her says how sweet she is. I hope she’s having a peaceful life now
I got sick and lost about 70lbs in a few short months and it totally changed my face, it was a lot to get used to.
@Daley16Videos Agree- even w/ 5-7 lb weight gain or loss -esp during holidays- my cheeks look like chipmunk’s or more defined. Also, double chin goes away or becomes more pronounced.
That’s a lot of weight in a really short time. That must have been scary. 😨 I hope you’re doing better now.
Congratulations
It seriously breaks my heart that she felt she needed all that work done, she really was naturally beautiful just the way she was 😢
It's cause of stupid people in this world I'm an openly gay man I do wear makeup the stuff people said about me was beyond childish and funny nobody can bring me down and thinking of lil kim helps me realize how beautiful I am and we all must stand against this evil world rise above them haters let them be miserable and down nobody can bring us down as we stand strong together!!!!! Let's keep showing miss lil Kim she's got this!!!!! My fave female wrapper always number 1
@@williamk7517 you're gay and you wear make-up, and you are surprised people look at you weirdly 😂
I'm surprised you didn't mention her skin colour drastic change. She went from dark brown African skin tone to pink/white in recent years. She's never mentioned having Vitiligo so can only guess that she has been using skin lightening creams for a while now, combined with make up obviously, she's light pink skin now. No one gonna mention that ?
I thought the same!
I thought the same thing!
Yea, her skin color has definitely changed for sure. I agree
She stopped tanning and started using lighter makeup. That’s all
She Was Always Medium Brown, That’s Not Plastic Surgery So Why Would He Comment On That
Dr. Then I advised him not to "focus on the specific surgical technique but on the surgeon and their results."
Most people say "LASIK" as all-encompassing refractive surgery anyway, but I immediately thought of you when I used that specific line. 😂 Good video, sad for Lil Kim
I really like the way you talk factually, using cosmetic terminology. You sound kind and I like it. Facial analysis. Brilliant. I’ve never seen you before but I will be back for more for sure 🙂
Lil Kim will always live in her 1999 era in my mind. She was magnificent.
This seriously makes me want to cry because I know growing up in The Times that we did we were not meant to feel beautiful.. I'm in my forties... Brown girls were never uplifted and made to feel beautiful. And this is a result of not loving yourself and caring about what society thinks. If she had not had the money she would have had to work from the inside out to make those changes and love herself instead of changing the outside of herself With surgery. I still have a lot of love and respect for a little Kim
That self esteem is supposed to come from your family not society
In lil Kim’s era Foxy Brown, Queen Latifa, Missy Elliott, Rah Digga, Remmy Ma, were the #1 female rappers & Whitney was number one female R&B dark skinned black women were very well represented, society isn’t a self esteem boosting mechanism.
Bs and your not Latino or Hispanic you ain't brown you black smh
@@MsDesiree39 bullshit. Most families are dysfunctional just like the greater society. We all have a duty to be kind. It is a societal issue.
@@warrenmorgan304 those you listed were not sex symbols either. Kim was different. You're clearly not a dark skinned female so don't speak for us. It was brutal back then. We were accepted but not preferred like the lighter females. I understand why Kim did what she did. The works hates little black girls, lucky for them they were talented and famous
