I am very happy to see this comment towards the top. I watched them go out of their way like 6 times to NOT pull it off. That would have been my first step upon viewing the bike the first time.
Example: 0.128 1 tenths, 2 hundredths, and 8 thousandths Read as "128 thousandths". I deal with this alot at my work as well. Glad your having fun with it! Looking forward to a 250 or 300cc swap(what alot of people do)
Okay guys love your content. Charles is a great addition to your Channel. Don't ever get rid of him he brings humor to your Channel. Overall impressed with him
Hi guys, just wanted to let you know how much you've helped me with my recent loss of my dad, we would work on motorcycles all through my childhood and get old rust buckets running again. Unfortunately the past few years of his life we couldn't do any of that and the passion eventually died out, but watching you guys and how much you all love what you do, really brought back a lot of great memories and I feel like it's reignited the passion for tinkering I once had. From the bottom of my heart I thank you for just being yourselves
My little RUCKUS 50CC would go 74kms/hr. Sold it with 10,000kms on the od. Such a wicked fun thing to ride. Never found anyone that didn't have a blast on it.
The shims aren't wear items, the valves and seats are. The shims are changed to account for this wear. If you don't have an appropriate feeler gauge, soda cans are usually 3-5 thou thick and can be used in a pinch to get a rough idea. At least in the intake which will probably be around that clearance. The exhaust is probably around double that but it varies by engine. If the valves weren't closing, carbon probably built up on the seat. After adjusting the valves and running it, the carbon may wear off requiring adjustment again quickly.
i see that i am not the only person that is really bugged about the twigs wrapped thru the bike. it would only take you 5 seconds to remove them. i am most impressed how awesome you guys are about diagnosing issues snd fixing them. i have been watching your great content for years now. thank you
Ah this brings back a ton of memories, I used to have a Ruckus just like that one, mine was a beast though, it easily cruised at 45mph. I'd say The clogged muffler is robbing you of a lot of power ATM. You definitely don't need a "hop up" engine!! Get a new muffler and rebuild the valve train and you'll have yourselves a badass cruiser easily capable of 40+ mph. 👍👍
I also had the competitor to this bike the Yamaha c3 which I liked a lot more then the rukus. Handled better but the rukus would take it on the flats but you hill I would kill the Honda. Plus they both got 130+ mpg.
What a silly question !! Will it run and ride again? I don't even have to watch this video to be able to tell ya YES it will run and ride again if you guys got a hold of it lol. You could find a rusted out bike frame in the woods from 50 years ago and you'll make it run.😉👍
I like the content as usual, but this one is my cup of tea, I'm a scooter guy and love riding slow bikes fast! Past injuries leave me to riding step-through style bikes or mini bikes anyway so..... I'm a gy6 enthusiast, not an expert but lots of experience!
I like how charles just instantly knew what he wanted, like he’s been thinking of this for wayyy longer then when ike said something. Haha. Charles definitely looks like he could be a moped rider for sure.
Lucky! Around here, even a clapped out Ruckus will go for $2k at least. The engine isn't a GY6 either, it's the GET2 which doesn't have much in common with the GY6. The GET is a great engine even though you can't increase displacement very easily. The Ruck shop's stage 1 performance kit wakes up the bike a lot and it's a simple bolt on the parts and go. I'd love to see more with this bike!
I would absolutely love to find me an Early Model Year RUKUS to Modify as a Street Bike! There are SO MANY MODIFICATIONS available for these. If is wasn't so hard to do, I would install a V-Twin, and use it DAILY...
noticed the Aermacchi sx125 in the shop at 33:38! I have two of em (bought one as a doner for the other one) and would love to see a will it run on it! lots of cool history and actually pretty valuable bikes when restored!
Hey guys hope you're having an excellent memorial Day I love the last episode you did of cars and cameras when you were building out the office those are fun too long with the builds I think your father should allow you to do one great big project in the OG workshop for Old times sake and you guys need to have a yard kart race at your parents house and the only caveat is you have to remove the mufflers to let the neighbors know you're back in town. Hope all of your having a wonderful memorial Day and have a great days
You guys should road trip on MTBs with a Monster? 78.5cc 4 stroke, or if you want adventure, stuff a 212 Predator in them, although the 212 poses some challenges fitting the engine, and getting the sprockets to line up, after that, your only problem will be, keeping the front wheel on the ground. I stretched the frame, and added a top motor mount, between the cross tube and the gas tank ears. I lucked out on the front downtube, and replaced the straight tube with sced 80 aluminum with an 6" rad bend at the bottom. My Rock Shock adj front end just clears the new tube at full turns.I also added an LED 7" Harley headlight, and a taillight with turns and brake lights, and a 3 magnet flywheel, and battery, under the motor plate. Rides great, very reliable, and the weight of the headlight helps keep the front wheel on the ground. After 3 years of riding in the Calgary, and now Windsor area, (very flat here), the stainless 2mm spokes started snapping on the rear wheel, so I have just fitted a 6 spoke aluminum "mag" wheel on the back, and 2 rides in, works great. I use the throttle stop screw to keep me at 80 km. In case you're wondering, I was using a hub adaptor on the spoked wheel, and its the second spoked wheel I've had on the bike. The first one did not have stainless nipples in the rim, and failed pretty quickly.
As a proud owner of a '16 Ruckus this one really hit the spot, was wondering when you guys were going to get to us. Gutless pig sure, but still fun to ride? Absolutely. If you try to take this out of a town center, you will only know the agony of 10 cars behind you waiting for a chance to pass. It only goes 38 at best. I haven't found a modification that doesn't just barely tweek performance. I think it is reliable. Happy to see a series on the same ride in my garage. Oh, you didn't mention it's Street Legal and parks wherever bicycles do. I don't remember many of your projects that do that. A bag of ice and a pack of drinks sits on the floorboards perfectly. Also, put some pegs on it. Way more control, less squirrely, I probably should have made that point first... Pegs.
Very much enjoyed the road trip with Honda 70s! Whatever the vehicle, with you guys hosting and interacting, I would like to see more videos like that!
You gotta put a Tecumseh* 200 on there. Yall should come search around Louisiana for projects. Kids get bikes, ride them for a few months and put'em in the shed and get a bigger one.
It has stuck valves from sitting for a long time. especially the intake valve you need to free up the valves. the previous owners probably layed it on its side filled the air filter with oil. then picked it up rode it until it seized up. John is having to much fun on it no doubt. Charles is the first one to crash it. take that big clunky muffler off of it and it will probably run better. I was thinking it was going to be a three. for the first number on the lap time. after Ike was slogging through the mud.
@@Lucas12v It didn't run until they started messing around with the valve train. and an engine will run with sticking valves. but it will run but poorly. skipping, and backfiring, ect.. it depends on how badly stuck the valves are. because the valves don't stick open on every revolution of the engine. but the longer it runs the more the valves will free up.
Man this video has given me way more ideas on how to get my ruckus going than DOZENS of other videos!!! Mine isn’t nearly as bad but won’t start. I’ll be trying some more things. Thanks.
if you have problems with the valves not seating because of corrosion , i always put a good drop o oil in both intake and exhaust. mostly the leak isnt that big
I had one of these over 20yrs ago. Definitely the best 50cc scooter I ever had. Put a 22mm carb and a big bore kit on it and it will rip pretty dang good. Mine would do around 60mph. Cool to see one again 🔥👍✌️
I wish I could have been there to do this project with you. I've got an 06 metropolitan I've been tuning for a while. It's basically the same guts on a proper scooter. I've been able to get it to 47 but I hope to do 50 so yeah these little bikes can do great things with a little love
Last Ruckus I saw here on youtube belonged to the channel Jenny's Garage, and she looked rather adorable on the thing, though she is a slim petite lady so the bike looked huge with her on it, would love to have one but they're rare as hen's teeth over here in britain, not even sure if they were sold here officially...
Shoot, a tank and a pump and you guys will have a serious score on your hands. Ruckus hold their value, and like Ike said they have a HUGE aftermarket.
Clapped out moped roadtrip for sure. It sounds like it would be super cool to watch and great content for wrenching on junked out mopeds and dropping better motors and such. The fun ride would be worth it by itself. Plenty of great content for many episodes until the big trip episode. Make it happen boys!
You should put a Nitrous Outlet powersports kit on it and see what the 50cc will do, a .011" fuel jet and a .012" nitrous jet will give you 6.5 horsepower at the crank with the carbureted wet kit's 6psi fuel pump.
My favorite thing about this Ruckus at this point, is the Tampa Bay Lightning logos spray painted on the column! Haha. You have your work cut out for you!
I have just under 6,000 miles on my 2012 Honda Ruckus and I did the same you guys did with your valves. Now I’m going to check my compression and see if that kit will work!
Incredibly impressed that you did all that without removing that massive twig through the bars 😂😂 Legends
Yes, that was really bothering me😄
at 1st i thought they put it there to go with the theme then realised it had been there the whole time :D ocd fans loosing there minds right now :D
That was driving me crazy. I hated it.
I am very happy to see this comment towards the top. I watched them go out of their way like 6 times to NOT pull it off. That would have been my first step upon viewing the bike the first time.
Lol that was kind bugging me too... Isaac finally tossed it 👍
The Honda Ruckus is FUN!
Oh yeah. Always great see you guys.
Come on John, free keychain to the first person to comment... It will make the comments sky rocket. Your analytics will love it.
You guys should leave those twigs on it forever

Charles is very entertaining. You three together have a real English Top Gear vibe going but with a Southern US twist.

"Kids don't do this". This is a job for mature men. Never thought of grinding down a shim. This 67 year young man thanks you.
Should use a sharpening stone, not a bench grinder hahaha
I did this to the lifter buckets in a suzuki vitara. 16 valves. Couldnt buy the buckets to do it properly. Still going strong.
6:17 Nah, the stock motor is called the GET50, the GY6 is the common china motor that people put on these.
I really enjoy these longer episodes. Appreciate yall. Hope yall are having a terrific memorial day!
That is so cool. Take something that looks dead and get it working. That looked like fun.
My little RUCKUS 50CC would go 74kms/hr. Sold it with 10,000kms on the od. Such a wicked fun thing to ride. Never found anyone that didn't have a blast on it.
Every shop NEEDS an Ike! Great work guys!
Getcha all some vintage Euro two-stroke mopeds!!!!! Ike had the right idea! Puch E50 fan, here!!!! Treatland is your friend!
issacs experience definitely showed in getting that engine started.

You beat me to it Lucas. Valve and seat not shim.
Some theory is that they become wear items if you grind or sand 'em
We need to see it back. With a lot more power
Absolutely yes! The road trips of past were the awesomest of content, period...
I saw a lovely restored Camo one in Kyoto on a holiday. It was eye-catching.
What a fun little machine and you got it running after sitting. You guys are the best.
Isaac is the man he just knows. Super knowledgeable man this guy is freaking incredibly smart, some people have it and some people just don't
His brothers all over it too,
Wow I work on these daily in a scooter shop in Chicago, absolutely fun and relaxing to watch others restore something so destroyed

130/90-10 maxxis m6024's or Duro knobbies fit. you guys can get free 4.00-10 knobbies from GPS that would work also. but be a little small.

Love the idea of bringing the ruckus back out, awesome video guys! And the moped ruckus mash up road trip sounds wicked cool! Just keep it safe guys!!
You guys are great MECHANICS to bring that thing Back from the JUNKYARD !! LOVE IT !

Hi y’all from west Alabama love y’all

Yall should come search around Louisiana for projects. Kids get bikes, ride them for a few months and put'em in the shed and get a bigger one.
The valve cover has a pressure relief line that goes to the air box, so there can be oil vapor getting sent to that. Seen it before on a gy6
Yes 👍
Yes the moped road trip and Ruckus build sounds awesome.
it sounded like a scooter out of the Jetsons when it first started
Awesome to see you guys messing with a ruckus, I just bought a 2012 last month, & it’s been nothing but fun since I got it🙂
