+Mike Reid the "paint" is called PlastiDip" the gloss is a glossifier made by PlastiDip. These can be purchased at lowes Home Depot or Walmart. There are some colors only available online. Make sure to use PlastiDip and not one of the copycat ones. The tape and painters plastic can be found in the pair area of your local hardware store. When doing this make sure to do a minimum of 3 layers.
It comes out so much nicer if you pull you bumper, pull your grill,pull your inserts out of it,and set it somewhere that ypu can hit both sides of the grill with the can while it's still wet.
When you are ready to redo the project I recommend using this new product called Autodip. It's spray able vinyl. It's like Plasti dip but better bc the finish is much glossier. I will post a video on my account to show results. Just waiting on my front lip to get here and install.

+dasllamas the product is slightly more expensive than Plasti Dip. But in my opinion it was worth it. About $24 a can. I'll they and do the video once I get the from lip. I hope it's not too troublesome to put on.
Yup that will definitely be better. Plastidip is good for temporary use. A few months after doing this I bought a eom black grille and installed that. Better than any paint.

Yes. To do that you darn near need to remove the front bumper. Pro to removing the grill is no overspray. Con is the time. Didn't take long to tape it off and some people don't have the mechanical know how to do that so I did it the "easy" way
if uoure not the first owner check your vin, chances are your car was a hertz owned car and built for fleet. the fleet dodges don't get the cool badging
Don't really see many r/t of this body style with the fancy badging. I think only the r/t max had it but I can't confirm this. Mine is just the cheapie base r/t hah! Original owner though.

I hand wash my car but use a pressure washer. The dip is really durable if you do it thick enough. I had to really scrub at it to peel up a corner to do my repair video. I personally feel it is worth it. I did my rims about 6ish months ago and no chips. They went through two tire rotations without being damaged.
why......would you not just remove the bumper and pop out the grill, would have taken you less than 10min vs taping everything off and going a lesser job.
Videos from Québec I get the question a lot. Maybe you can pop the bumper in less than 10 minutes but it takes me longer than that. If one of my fog lights go out again it's going to stay out 😜. Only took me a few minutes to tape. Secondly I was trying to do more of a general way of doing it in case a person that has a different car wants to dip their grill they have an idea of how they can do it. Don't be intimidated, it's actually way easier than you think. If you think the front bumper is hard to get off the rear bumper is something else, it's a huge pain in the ass cause you have to take apart the interior of the trunk to get to it. The front is just 2 screws under the fenders and a couple of clips under the hood. They are made as more or less "sacrificial" parts that are relatively easy and inexpensive to change since they are the most likely to get damaged in an accident.
I want to remove the part he dipped so that I can do the same with actual paint. Do you know how to remove that part? Do you have to remove the bumper?
Nice job! I have a question, i noticed when you placed the cover the top portion outside chrome is exposed and was painted too.. How did you take it off?
At about 4:15 you see me peeling the dip off the lower portion. I peeled it all the way around. It comes right off the paint as long as it is thick layers. You only have a hard time if it is a thin layer. Don't be shy to spray the entire area and peel when done.
Paint is easy but you have to worry about it in a car wash. Buying a mopar grill will run you 200-300 bucks. Mine is a mopar black grille now 😜. Got the opportunity to get it cheap so I did. If it was 200+ bucks I would still have the dipped grille.
Ok cool my ultimate goal is to get my chrome grille and rims black. I know a guy selling a like new molar grille for about $170 since he has about a dozen of em but the rims would still put a dent in the wallet. Would plasti dip or vinyl wrap on both still be the better option? dasllamas
+Lego Man if you are gonna go vinyls I'd just buy the black grill. Vinyl is expensive. My stripes roof and spoiler is about a $500 job from most places. The grill having so many curves would be 100-200 and you are at the black grill price already. My main reason for dipping the rims is because the AWD has hideous options for wheels so I dipped them. My dipped rims have survived harsh winters and hot summers. In addition it's survived 3 tire rotations. If you do it right it will last. (Till you need new tires)
Hmm I see however for the grille I don't need to vinyl wrap the actual mesh just the 2 cross pieces but either way I see your point. Also as for the rims I'm guessing I would save money plasti dipping or even vinyl for that matter. dasllamas
+Lego Man price it out. If you like the wheel style and just want them black you can powder coat them for 500-750. It's permanent and looks better than paint or vinyls of course this would only work if you didn't have that plastic chrome clad junk that dodge does.
I think it was either 1" or 1.5". It doesn't really matter. Just tear pieces to size when doing the rounded corners and the rest just overlap the tape slightly till you cover it all.

Number one rule for doing this is to keep your cans in hot water at all times when you can and to shake thw can very well for every coat you do. Just wanted to check out a old video lol but I was up last night thinking about a visual mod the hood instead of buying a aftermarket hood why not get a srt 8 hood that extract heat just as good as a aftermarket hood you know
Whoa Weezy I was looking at the srt front end conversion but that runs almost $1,000 when all said and done. RPM will be designing a custom hood so the procharger pulls outside air from a hood scoop and have cowling for heat extraction. I think I'll go that route before I just get the srt hood.

Held up as well as the wheels (18 months) but it is the front of the car it will show signs of wear with an occasional "chip" but if you watch my how to fix plasti dip video it is a simple fix.
If I did it right I wouldn't have had to worry about overspray. To remove the grill on a charger you have to remove the entire front bumper so it's kind of a pain that way too. Either way works.

+Robert Burke if you want to do the black roof it wouldn't be too bad if you bought the dip in bulk and diluted it with some xylene. Then you would have to use an electric sprayer to spray it on. If you don't own a sprayer then you are better off just getting the vynal. The cost, time, and longevity is better with vynals. You can dip your front bumper just under the grill to make it look like the SRT. Just google a few of those videos. Just be careful how far you go with it. You don't want to go from classy to rice. Year American cars can be rice. i.e. Chevy cavalier is one of the most riced out cars out there. I think plasti dip or another company makes tail light tint. If you do it right it can look nice but before you do it look at your car as a whole. Don't want it to look ghetto.
Ben Robinson mine has been on for two years (grill, wheels, badges) living in Colorado with snow sand extreme heat and cold it has been on for two years and only minor damage. You only see it if you are looking for it
Why would you spend so much time masking and still getting overspray on everything instead of taking the fascia off, removing the grill and doing it right?
Everyone has their tastes. One reason to get rid of chrome here in colorado is all the mag chloride they use in the winter causes spots on chrome type finishes that is difficult to remove if you are not on top of it all winter long. The whole car went to a red/black theme
jeremy mcdowell if you are painting yes. With plasti dip no sanding is needed. If you get tired of black it peels right off and you have factory chrome. So DO NOT sand if using plasti dip.
I'm planning on doing the same thing. Cheaper than buying a new grill and keeping the aesthetic of the charger front end. Looks bad ass!
It was a great solution for me. Lasted 2 years before I just bought a black grill. Even at 2 years it was still in good shape

Just try to avoid any runs and you should be good. Minimum of 3 coats. I suggest 5.

I took the grill off ..scuffed it...adhesive promoter...prime...base coat black.

It will peel with a pressure washer held at the edge but a car wash wont peel it if it is properly applied.

Blue can plasti dip brand. The gloss is plasti dip brand glossifier. You can buy it at Lowes or Walmart

Ive taken it through brushless car washes with no issue. If you hold a pressure washer an inch away it will peel it off though

Amazon. Like 40 bucks though. Just look for the one that mounts to the RT honeycomb grill and it should fit just fine

Ya just about one full 11 ounce can and a little bit of the glossifier.

It does happen. You can either peel and re dip or spray some in a cup and touchup with a toothpick

it lasts a long time, just make sure you change your dip out every 6 months or so. eventually it casts on,and becomes a pain to remove with your hands

jeremy mcdowell if you are painting yes. With plasti dip no sanding is needed. If you get tired of black it peels right off and you have factory chrome. So DO NOT sand if using plasti dip.
